<ul><li>Scientists have discovered 301 new <keyword id="122247" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="exoplanets" source="Orion">exoplanets</keyword> with the help of a new deep neural network program.</li><li><keyword id="12631938" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="exominer" source="Orion">ExoMiner</keyword> was trained and fed with data from NASA’s Kepler spacecraft to identify new exoplanets.</li><li>It not only discovered new planets but also distinguished between the false ones.</li></ul>A new deep neural network program called “ExoMiner” is helping scientists in discovering exoplanets. ExoMiner scoured through data from NASA’s Pleiades supercomputer to identify 301 unknown exoplanets. The machine learning method is also capable enough to distinguish between real exoplanets and imposters which are also called “false positives.” NASA’s search for exoplanets was through its Kepler spacecraft which observed thousands of stars to identify possible exoplanets lurking around. It would look for temporary decreases in the brightness of the stars which would have possibly been caused by an exoplanet. Although NASA ended the mission in 2018, there is still a lot of data for scientists to read through and discover new exoplanets. This is humanly possible but it’s a tedious task, and this is where ExoMiner comes in. ExoMiner has been trained using various tests and properties that humans use to identify and confirm new exoplanets. It also studies past confirmed exoplanets and those that are regarded as false positives. ExoMiner’s capabilities were recently proved when the machine learning algorithm validated 301 exoplanets from the Kepler Archive. These exoplanets were already detected by the Kepler Science Operations Center pipeline and even promoted to planet candidate status by the Kepler Science Office. And it was finally through ExoMiner that the final validation was confirmed. Scientists discovered how ExoMiner is better at distinguishing between real exoplanets and the false positives. It’s not just picking out from the lot though as ExoMiner actually gives details on why the conclusion was made. ExoMiner is considered more reliable than existing machine classifiers and human experts combined. Hamed Valizadegan, ExoMiner project lead and machine learning manager with the Universities Space Research Association at Ames, said that ExoMiner is now working with NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) to continue the search for more exoplanets. ExoMiner, a new machine learning method helped discover 301 exoplanets

<ul><li>A <keyword id="12659222" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-exoplanet" source="Orion">new exoplanet</keyword> ‘GJ 367 b’ has been discovered where a year amounts to only eight years.</li><li>It’s believed to be a rocky planet like Mercury and has just half the mass of Earth.</li><li>GJ 367 b also belongs to the ‘ultra-short period’ (USP) group of exoplanets that orbit their star in less than 24 hours.</li></ul>Scientists have discovered a new <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/science/space/news/exominer-machine-learning-method-helped-discover-301-exoplanets/articleshow/87979847.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">exoplanet</a> where time flies super quick. On <keyword id="12659223" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="planet-gj-367-b" source="Orion">Planet GJ 367 b</keyword>, a year equals to only eight hours as compared to 365 days on Earth. The newly discovered planet is also believed to have a rocky surface like Mercury. Planet GJ 367b was discovered by scientists at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) Institute of Planetary Research. This planet is said to be featherweight as it has just half the mass of Earth. It’s also expected to be one of the lightest among the almost 5,000 exoplanets discovered so far. It has a diameter of just over 9,000 kilometers making it slightly larger than Mars. Since it takes the <keyword id="54132" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="exoplanet" source="Orion">exoplanet</keyword> around eight hours to orbit its parent star, that’s how much a year would amount to on this planet. GJ 367 b also belongs to the ‘ultra-short period’ (USP) group of exoplanets that orbit their star in less than 24 hours. Scientists have discovered similar exoplanets as GJ 367 b but their origins are still unknown. "It seems to have similarities to Mercury. This places it among the sub-Earth sized terrestrial planets and brings research one step forward in the search for a 'second Earth'," said astronomer Kristin Lam in a statement. Upon researching the planet, GJ 367b was found to be a low-mass rocky planet which is more dense than earth and with properties similar to those of Mercury. The planet’s proximity also reveals that it’s exposed to high levels of radiation, 500 times more than what the Earth experiences. This also means that the surface temperature on GJ 367b could reach up to 1500 degrees Celsius which not only makes living here impossible for humans but rocks and metals would also easily be melted. In terms of the distance from Earth, planet GJ 367b is 31 light years which according to the scientists makes it ideal for further investigation. This discovery also expands the capabilities of finding out more about exoplanets, even those that could be the smallest and the least massive exoplanets. Scientists discover Mercury-like exoplanet where a year is only eight hours long

It will be a continuously crewed, commercial space station which will be dedicated to “advanced research and commercial industrial activity and ensuring continued U.S. presence and leadership in low-Earth orbit.” Starlab could be the replacement for the ISS as it is designed to house four astronauts, and it will have power, volume, and a payload capability to the ISS. Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman is also developing a modular, commercial destination for low-Earth orbit. It will provide a base module for extended capabilities such as science and industrial experimentation. It will feature multiple docking ports for future expansion to support crew analogue habitats, laboratories, crew airlocks, and facilities capable of artificial gravity.
