Higher edtech platform upGrad on Tuesday said it has acquired <keyword id="14616025" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="exampur" source="Orion">Exampur</keyword> which is a test-prep provider for government jobs, for an undisclosed sum. Noida-based learning platform Exampur aims to reach Rs 70 crore (nearly $7.5 million) in revenue this fiscal. Co-founded in 2018 by <keyword id="201980" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vivek-kumar" source="Orion">Vivek Kumar</keyword> and <keyword id="14616760" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vardan-gandhi" source="Orion">Vardan Gandhi</keyword>, the platform has a user base of over 10 million students. upGrad acquires Noida-based test prep provider Exampur

A 30 year-old man, who came to <keyword id="28504" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kerala" source="Orion">Kerala</keyword> from UAE last month, has tested positive for <keyword id="7616951" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="monkeypox" source="Orion">monkeypox</keyword>, making him the fifth case of the virus from the southern state. Health Minister <keyword id="3296362" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="veena-george" source="Orion">Veena George</keyword> on Tuesday said the man had arrived at the Calicut Airport on July 27 and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Malappuram district. His health condition is stable, she said. Those who were in close contact with him, including his parents, are being closely monitored. It is the fifth case of Monkeypox reported in the state, she said. The first case of monkeypox, a rare but potentially serious viral illness, was reported from <keyword id="6357351" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kollam" source="Orion">Kollam</keyword> district on July 14 and the patient was discharged from the hospital last week. The second confirmed case of the infection was reported in Kannur district on July 18 and the third case was reported in neighbouring Malappuram on July 22. All of them, tested positive for the disease, had arrived in Kerala from abroad. The Kerala government, on Monday, had confirmed that the 22-year-old man, who died on July 30, tested positive for monkeypox making the fatality the first such one in the country. According to the <keyword id="6356311" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-health-organisation" source="Orion">World Health Organisation</keyword>, monkeypox is a viral zoonosis (a virus transmitted to humans from animals), with symptoms similar to those seen in the past in smallpox patients, although it is clinically less severe. With the eradication of smallpox in 1980 and subsequent cessation of smallpox vaccination, monkeypox has emerged as the most important orthopoxvirus for public health. Kerala reports its fifth case of monkeypox

The <keyword id="6354705" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="directorate-general-of-civil-aviation" source="Orion">Directorate General of Civil Aviation</keyword> (<keyword id="6354787" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="dgca" source="Orion">DGCA</keyword>) will investigate the incident that happened at stand number 201 of the airport's T2 terminal, its officials stated. The car's driver was subjected to breath analyser test for consumption of alcohol and it was found to be negative, the officials added. There was no damage to the plane and no one was injured, aviation industry sources said. The aircraft was readying to depart for Patna on Tuesday morning when a Swift Dzire car belonging to Go First airline went under it, narrowly avoiding collision with the nose wheel, the sources said. The plane departed for Patna on schedule, they mentioned. <ul><li>Only two startups in India attained unicorn status in April-June quarter, mirroring a global trend in decline in the number of new unicorns.</li><li>Experts find it hard to put a date on recovery in <keyword id="2924060" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="startup-funding" source="Orion">startup funding</keyword> as investors have turned cautious amid erratic market conditions.</li><li>According to a recent report by Traxcn, tech startups are going through a funding winter that’s predicted to last for 12-18 months.</li></ul>Startup funding has hit a two-year low at $2.7 billion across 205 deals in July-September quarter, says PwC India’s report. Moreover, only two startups in India attained unicorn status in the same quarter. This mirrors a global trend which too saw a decline in the number of new unicorns last quarter. “It is tough to predict how long the slowdown in funding will last but clearly, both founders and investors are being more selective and cautious in deal-making,” said Amit Nawka, partner-deals &amp; India startups leader at PwC India. Nawka believes that early-stage startups will be able to raise capital more easily as they are typically insulated from public market fluctuations as compared to late-stage deals. “However, investors have already raised a lot of capital which needs to be deployed and this will ultimately find its way to the <keyword id="1948072" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-startup" source="Orion">Indian startup</keyword> ecosystem,” he added. The report says that 38 merger &amp; acquisition (M&amp;A) deals involving startups were executed in the September quarter of 2022. Out of this, 30 were domestic, five were inbound and three were outbound deals. SaaS and edtech witnessed the highest number of M&amp;A deals in Q3 CY22, with nine and seven deals respectively. Edtech company upGrad has been the top acquirer in the quarter with four acquisitions – Wolves India, Harappa Education, Exampur and Centum Learning. ‘Cheques will be on the lower side’ According to a report by Traxcn, tech startups in India are through a funding winter which is predicted to last for the next 12-18 months. “Startups are currently experiencing a funding slowdown which is likely to persist over the next one to one and a half years. Businesses in fact anticipate a recession and are preparing to cut costs. In this context, only companies with strong fundamentals may continue to receive cheques from investors, although on the lower side,” said Mohamad Faraz, founding partner at Upsparks, an early-stage venture capital firm. According to Faraz, companies that are surviving the funding winter are those that are maintaining leaner and smaller budgets, cut flab, extend their runway and bootstrap until conditions get better for external funding. Many startups including MobiKwik, OYO Rooms, Byju’s, boAt, Snapdeal, Droom, Pine Labs, PharmEasy have been postponing their plans of going public due to volatile market conditions, which could lead to poor demand from investors.
