"The petitioner asserts that the decision is not only arbitrary but also unjust, given the recent findings of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). During this time, she woke up at 4 a.m. and studied for at least 10-12 hours each day.Some prefer to take an easier route.The Journal found that several students had paid $15,000-20,000 to illegally look at the question paper before the exam. BI could not independently verify the figures.The police made multiple arrests related to exam cheating after results showed that 67 people received perfect scores in the NEET exams this year."Question papers are sold at extravagantly high prices," Ashok Rathore, a police officer who investigated cheating linked to India's medical school exam, told the Journal. "It's a nexus of desperate students, parents, tuition centers and printing presses."<h2 id="378edaf6-be36-458e-8847-661e66638c81">Leaked questions</h2>One student told BI that several Telegram channels dedicated to exam prep saw messages encouraging students "struggling with exams and don't have time for studies" to get in touch for "help.""My friend said he was asked to pay around 15,000 rupees ($180) to enter the private channel where they shared the questions," she said.BI reached out to the Telegram account offering "help". The person said they can provide next year's medical entrance exam questions for around 1 lakh rupees ($1,200).High ranks in these exams mean coveted "seats" in medical colleges operated by the state and national governments. Those with money can still legally obtain places in private medical colleges if they pay fees ranging from $115,000 to $145,000.However, some students with the financial capacity prefer cheating and getting a government seat instead."It makes very good economic sense," a senior medical advisor with knowledge of the matter told BI. "The question paper will be given for about 25 lakh rupees (around $29,000). For that much, they get a free seat in a government college where they only have to pay around 16,000 rupees ($190) per annum.""For the entire five-year degree, that still only comes to around one lakh rupees ($1191), so of course rich students would rather do that instead of paying their way into private medical schools."<h2 id="4ff61c3d-756d-47c9-8f47-2f6be9f1f6a0">Earning a 'merit' seat</h2>The advisor — who preferred to remain anonymous but whose identity is known to BI — also said there is a significant amount of respect that comes with having "earned" a merit seat instead of paying their way into a private "management" seat."Unfortunately, there are very few objective metrics that people have as outsiders to judge the competence of their doctors, especially at a time when everybody in India sits with an MBBS board outside their clinic," agreed Asish George, a doctor who cleared the entrance exam in 2014."For those people, the fact that someone cracked a highly competitive entrance exam and got in would inspire more confidence than someone who paid their way through the whole thing."According to the Journal, authorities in India have tried to install video cameras inside exam halls and increased their monitoring of social media to catch cheaters. But many are still finding ways to illegally gain the upper hand, at a high price. The NTA did not immediately respond to a request by BI for comment.

It's a prerequisite for certain roles in banking or private equity. Only 46% of those who took the first level in May passed the test.About one in five people who start the CFA process are students, Rob Langrick, chief product advocate at the CFA Institute, told Business Insider. Recently, the average age of candidates fell from 24 to about 23 as the number of undergraduates enrolling for the program increased, he said.Langrick said that more people prefer to start the process while they are still used to studying and are not yet tied to a full-time work schedule. And for students coming from less-known schools, the CFA designation stands out for employers, Langrick said.The increase in college students starting the CFA process comes as fewer people overall are taking the exams.CFA Level I sign-ups first dropped in late 2020, given pandemic-induced cancellations and exam deferments. He thought his economics degree didn't cover enough applied finance for the kinds of jobs he wanted to do.But getting partway through the CFA didn't change his trajectory, Wye said."I felt that it did not explicitly give me an advantage in searching for finance internships, as I believe prior experience in related roles might be more valued," he said.Wye is now working at a multinational bank while preparing for the Level III exam.While the certification may be important for roles like portfolio managers and securities analysts, Wye does not think its value applies to all <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/finance-job-search-headhunter-database-private-equity-investment-banking-hedge-funds">finance careers</a>, including investment banking or sales and trading. State Education Minister A Suresh said the government took the decision to safeguard the students' health in view of the rapid spread of coronavirus in the state. The July 10 examinations were originally scheduled to be held in March but were first put off due to the impending elections to local bodies and subsequently due to the Covid-19 lockdown. As the lockdown restrictions were gradually relaxed, the government announced that the public exams will be conducted from July 10, by curtailing the number of papers from 11 to six. "We have accordingly started making arrangements but after a review of the situation, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy suggested that we cancel the examinations and promote all the students," the Education Minister said. He said the advanced supplementary and improvement examinations for Intermediate (Class XI and X11) students, slated from July 11, were also being cancelled.

Andhra Pradesh cancels Class 10 board exams

Maharashtra government has announced that it will be cancelling class 10 and class 12 state board exams, this year. Maharashtra decides to cancel class 10 and 12 board exams

With the states divided on political lines over holding the NEET-JEE exams, BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh is ready with a plan to go all out to conduct the exams on schedule in September. As a first step the government has offered to double the number of centres for the NEET test and has banned frisking of candidates. They will be expected to go through a metal detector. This year the expected number of NEET candidates is going to be 58,860 and the state plans to have 144 centres as compared to last year's 84 centres for 54,445 candidates. Sources said Bhopal will have 35 centres for about 18,000 candidates. There were 15 centres last year for 12,000 candidates. Among the steps taken for the candidates' safety, alternate seats have been arranged for the JEE (Main) and NEET examinees. There will be 12 NEET candidates in each room. Students will go through thermal scanning. There will be separate entry and exit gates. Document verification will be done in two rooms in batches of 15 candidates each. Face masks will be mandatory. Sanitisation of the centres will be carried out before each test. Isolation wards will be prepared for students with high fever. Facility for disposal of gloves and masks for both the candidates and invigilators will be arranged. Only masks, gloves, hand sanitisers, water in transparent bottles, admit cards and ID cards will be allowed in the centres. The Congress-led opposition is opposing the holding of the exams. Former state Education Minister Jitu Patwari on Wednesday wrote to the Chief Minister to cancel the exams in view of the pandemic. "Like the rest of the world our country is also facing the pandemic. Covid had started infecting the state when you took charge in March. You failed to control it," wrote Patwari. "Under these circumstances, I request you not to permit conducting of the JEE/NEET examination," he said. He asked the state government to write to the Centre to cancel the exams. A senior official in the Education Department said the postponement of the examinations would hamper the academic calendar and cost thousands of students a precious year. "Shifting of the examination would call for a massive logistical exercise. Thousands of centres are to be contacted again for their availability. Also availability of supervisors and invigilators, movement of tonnes of materials and equipment like jammers and CCTV cameras are involved. "It takes almost three months to prepare for the examination for the administration. For the students, it takes even longer to prepare for the tests. If it is postponed again, it will ruin an academic year," he said. The Supreme Court slammed his argument by saying, “students cannot decide their welfare, Authorities can decide their welfare.”</li><li>Datar further argued, “UGC guidelines make uniform rules for the whole country without taking the pandemic and practical difficulties into consideration. This is violative of Article 14 as they are treating unequal situations equally.”</li><li>Justice Bhushan goes back to the question of whether the final semester can be skipped while Datar is explaining the CGPA system in the court. </li><li> If there is a standard fixed by UGC that without a final exam, a degree cannot be given, can universities really decide to cancel the final exam? Then all the universities will come up with their own method, SC said. </li><li>Datar argued that UGC can say don't award a degree without holding an exam but it cannot say that you hold the exam by 30th September at any cost.</li><li>Advocate General Kishore Dutta for West Bengal says the state will not be able to hold online exams because students don’t have the technology to give the exams.</li><li>Sr. Adv. The UGC response was conveyed by its counsel, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, on a batch of pleas that challenged the UGC schedule for final-year university exams before September 30.The petitioners' counsel contended that the UGC guidelines for holding exams are "not legally or constitutionally valid". Mehta argued that the decision by Delhi and Maharashtra to cancel exams in their respective state universities is against the UGC rules.He argued that UGC is the only body that can prescribe rules for conferring a degree, and state governments cannot change the rules. UGC Guidelines 2020: Supreme Court verdict likely soon on final year exams

The bench observed that the government should modify the draft notification and include the state board issue. "Clear the stand that decision will be taken at the central level and not at the state level... other courses will have to be delayed till CBSE exam results come out," it said. Mehta replied the assessment results will be published now, and if a student wants to opt to give the exam, then that will be conducted later. "It is impossible to complete the process of examinations by July 31, as directed by the Supreme Court. We have informed this matter to the Chief Minister," said Education Minister Adimulapu <keyword id="9999" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suresh">Suresh</keyword>. He said that the apex Court gave leeway for the state to come up with a scheme of assessment within 10 days and complete examination process by July 31, which is not possible for the state. "Because of the tight schedule, it is not possible to conduct the exams. The government has cancelled Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) theory 2021 exams," he said, adding that it generally takes 45 days to complete this process and announce the results. Suresh said the scheme of evaluating marks for the cancelled intermediate examinations will be declared soon. A high-powered committee will decide the mechanism for awarding marks to students soon. Considering the prevailing circumstances, the state government has also cancelled Class 10 standard examinations. "Cancelling examinations is the second best option while the first option was always conducting the examinations," he added. <ul><li>The Supreme Court today announced that the remaining board examinations for both classes 10th and 12th will not be conducted in July. </li><li>The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) also said that it will follow CBSE’s decision on the final exams and result. </li><li>This may also lead to further deferment of the entrance examinations including JEE Mains and NEET — which are scheduled in July. </li></ul>The Supreme Court today announced that the remaining board examinations for both classes 10th and 12th will not be conducted in July. This was after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) told the bench led by Justice J AM Khanwilkar to <a href="https://www.timesnownews.com/education/article/sc-decision-on-cbse-cancelled-cbse-not-to-conduct-remaining-12th-10th-exams-in-july/611798">cancel the exams due to the coronavirus pandemic</a>. The board has already scrapped class 10th and 12th exams across nearly 250 schools abroad. Those students will be awarded marks based on the practical examinations or internal assessment. Meanwhile, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) also said that it will follow CBSE’s decision on the final exams and result. The marks will be awarded on the basis of internal assessment, it said. The decision was long pending after the parents requested the apex court to consider scrapping the remaining exams and promote students based on internal assessment and the marks obtained in the exams that have already been conducted. Moreover, state governments including Maharashtra, Odisha and Delhi had requested the government to do away with the pending exams. The Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal held a review meeting with the National Testing Agency (NTA), School Education and Literacy department and CBSE to plan and discuss the examination schedule and reopening of schools on June 8. The exams scheduled between March 19 to 31 were deferred for both classes due to the lockdown and violence in Northeast Delhi. It was decided that the CBSE exams will be held from July 1-15. This may also lead to further deferment of the entrance examinations including JEE Mains and NEET. The government may postpone the two competitive exams after multiple requests from students, teachers and parents. As per the current schedule rolled out by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), the JEE Mains exam is scheduled between July 19 and July 23, while NEET entrance will be held on July 26, 2020. On the other hand, CBSE board has already directed schools to promote all the students — from class 1 to 9 and 11 — without examinations.

The results of Class Xth Board will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board," Nishank tweeted. "Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him or her on this basis, will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams," the Minister said. Nishank further said that the Class 12 exams will be held later and the situation reviewed on June 1 by the CBSE, and the details will be shared subsequently. "A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations." The Minister mentioned that the decision was taken after Prime Minister Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review the examinations to be held at various levels in view of the developing Corona situation. CBSE Class 10 board exams cancelled, Class 12 exams postponed as COVID-19 cases surge

<ul><li>After CBSE and IB, Council of Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) board has decided to call off the board exams for Class 10 as COVID-19 cases are spiking in the country.</li><li>The board has not shared the criteria on which class 10 students would be marked but the board has asked schools to start with the admission process for Class 11.</li><li>The status of ISC Class 12 examinations remains the same, as per the circular dated April 16.</li></ul>After the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and International Baccalaureate (IB), the Council of Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) board has decided to call off the board exams for Class 10 as COVID-19 cases are spiking in the country. “The options given in the earlier circular dated 16 April 2021, now stands withdrawn” said a circular, dated April 19, from the CISCE board. Class 10 students were given an option to choose the mode of their examination, i.e to appear physically for exams or evaluated on the basis of “objective criterion”, as per the previous orders. Now, all the Class 10 <keyword id="6386146" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="icse">ICSE</keyword> board students will be evaluated on the basis of “objective criterion.” However, the board has not shared the criterion on basis of which Class 10 students will be marked. But the board has asked the schools to start with the admission process for Class 11 and begin with online classes, at the earliest. CISCE has also guided schools to start teaching Class 11 syllabus to the students. ISC 2023 syllabus will be followed for Class 11. The status of ISC Class 12 examinations remains the same, as per the circular dated April 16. No final date of examination has been announced by the board. The exam stands postponed until new dates are announced.
