<ul class="summary-list"><li>A <keyword id="6762469" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="TikTok">TikTok</keyword> user went viral as an <keyword id="11466152" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ex-amish">ex-Amish</keyword> person trying McDonald's and cocktails for the first time.</li><li>A video showing Jedediah drinking a milkshake for the first time got over nine million views.</li><li>But the account is satirical, <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/amish-tiktoker-jedidiah-revealed-hoax-after-viral-videos-1590877">according to reporting from Newsweek.</a></li></ul>A TikTok user known as Jedediah went viral by documenting his life as an ex-Amish community member trying new things like a Long Island Iced Tea and McDonald's for the first time. But a series of TikToks from another account allege that Jedediah was a fictional character.<a href="https://www.newsweek.com/amish-tiktoker-jedidiah-revealed-hoax-after-viral-videos-1590877">According to a Newsweek report</a>, a since-deleted TikTok account with the username @iseeyou3156 posted three videos alleging that Jedediah is actually a man from South Carolina named Ethan Linder.The videos on the since-deleted account's page showed photos of Jedediah with a woman, who is purportedly his wife, and three kids, Newsweek reported. The text in the video read, "Married. From South Carolina. Not <keyword id="281303" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Amish">Amish</keyword>."Linder's wife, Kaitlyn Linder, confirmed to Newsweek that the account was "a joke.""His sister literally posted a stupid video that took off unintentionally. Nothing has been scammed from anyone. This is absolutely ridiculous over a stupid TikTok," Kaitlyn told Newsweek. Insider could not immediately contact Kaitlyn, whose account was private. The Amish are a Christian community known for living without electricity and modern innovations like cars and telephones. In the US, most Amish people live in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana, <a href="http://groups.etown.edu/amishstudies/statistics/statistics-population-2020/">according to data compiled by Elizabethtown College's Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies</a>.The first video posted to the <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@jeds_adventures?lang=en&amp;is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1ebapp=v1">@Jeds_Adventures account</a> showed Jedediah - the man alleged to be Ethan - "trying a milkshake for the first time," as the caption read. Weird Al Yankovic's "Amish Paradise," a cover of Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise," soundtracked the video, which gained over nine million views. The TikTok page, which has 369,000 followers, now includes the phrase "Satire Entertainment" in its bio, though <a href="https://www.dailydot.com/unclick/ex-amish-jedediah-jeds-adventures-tiktok-fake/">the Daily Dot reported</a> that the clarification appears to be a new addition. Newsweek also reported that the account seeking to expose the Jedediah character alleged that the account once shared a post with a Venmo link for "Jed's next adventure." Kaitlyn denied allegations that there was a "scam" involved, Newsweek reported. Still, followers of Jedediah's journey - even if it's only satire - have said they enjoyed seeing the purportedly ex-Amish man try new things."I love Jed! It makes me happy that he's learning new experiences," says one comment. "It's what life is all about, trying things, falling over, and getting back up."The comments sections of Jedediah's videos are filled with suggestions from people asking the man to try their favorite foods and see his reactions.The same is true on Jedediah's Instagram account, which has 6,800 followers. Real or fake, one recent Instagram commenter said, "I think you have the best content on the Internet."Insider sent a message to an Instagram account linked to the TikTok page but did not immediately hear back.

A viral TikTok account documenting an ex-Amish man's journey into the mainstream world is reportedly a 'joke'

I could kick that sink in and I could make a razor out of the ceramic. I could melt the plastic on that chair and I could make a knife. The wiring in that speaker on the corner, I could make a weapon out of that."Phillips was in the middle of interviewing the man for the book she co-authored with Alexa Clay, "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/The-Misfit-Economy-Creativity-Entrepreneurs/dp/1451688822">The Misfit Economy: Lessons in Creativity from Pirates, Hackers, Gangsters, and Other Informal Entrepreneurs</a>," which came out in June.The ex-con was not threatening her, but rather, demonstrating the type of creative thinking he had picked up in prison. Circumstances (i.e. imprisonment) forced him to think outside the box and look at the world from a different perspective than most."In prison, you can't ask yourself the question, 'How should I do something?' because you don't have the tools to answer that question," Phillips said. "But what you can ask yourself and what you become very good at asking yourself is, 'How can I do this?'"Now the ex-con applies that same thinking to his entrepreneurial pursuits.And that's really what the book is about.<h2>A plea</h2>"The book is a plea to get people who are interested in the subject of entrepreneurship and business and innovation and creativity to hold onto the inclination that we can learn, or be inclined to learn, from the unusual suspects and from the nooks and crannies of the world, rather than where everyone else is looking to for lessons," Phillips told Business Insider.Clay described the misfits in their book as an alternative, but legitimate, type of entrepreneur."There are all these incredible entrepreneurs in the black market - in the informal economy - that are innovating, that are immensely creative, that are really approaching entrepreneurship through a different lens, but we never hear their stories, and we never really treat them with respect. Clay and Phillips interviewed a handful of pirates while researching for the book.</div></div></div>Together, the coauthors interviewed every type of "misfit" they could find - including Somali pirates, drug runners, computer hackers, con artists, Amish entrepreneurs, and King Tone of the Latin Kings gang.They identified 5 common traits, or habits, among the misfits that have helped them to innovate and succeed:<ol><li>Hustle: Spotting an idea and going for it, using whatever tools available, and taking one's destiny into one's own hands. (The ex-con is an example of a hustler.)</li><li>Copy: Combining ideas to better innovate and create. "There is a very unhelpful discourse that you must come up with a completely original idea," Phillips said. "However, if you look around, there might be elements that could, together, be completely explosive."</li><li>Hack: The hacker mentality is about trying to fully understand the world we live in and the culture that we're operating in. It's about getting to know a system really well in order to better take it apart. Or, in the words of the authors, "taking on the establishment to change it for the better."</li><li>Provoke: Creating "temporary worlds" to spark dialogue and help spur innovation. For example, the authors interviewed a startup whose founders essentially removed themselves from mainstream culture by hermitting on an island off the coast of Seattle while brainstorming how they really wanted to impact the world.</li><li>Pivot: Pivoting is about personal pivots, or forcing a dramatic life change one oneself. "With pivot we really focused on people that just unplugged from the system in different ways and went on these journeys where they were able to hack their identity a little bit," said Clay.</li></ol>And though many of the lessons come from outcasts, weirdos, and former criminals, it's still really an uplifiting read."I expected for the book to be a lot darker than it is," said Phillips. What pirates, hackers, and gangsters can teach you about running a business

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div>"Banshee" may be <a href="http://deadline.com/2014/03/banshee-season-finale-cinemax-record-700371/">smashing network records</a> at Cinemax, but it still hasn't hit mainstream audiences. This may have something to do with its dreaded Friday night timeslot or the fact that <a href="http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-02-05/hbo-finally-reveals-profit-numbers-dot-take-that-netflix">Cinemax is a premium cable channel in significantly less households than HBO</a>.
The testosterone-fueled series from Alan Ball, creator of HBO's "Six Feet Under" and "True Blood," seems to have been relegated to "<a href="http://www.indiewire.com/article/the-genuine-guilty-pleasure-that-is-banshee">guilty pleasure</a>" status. "Banshee" enters its third season next year, and while many acknowledge the show is <a href="http://www.vulture.com/2013/01/banshee-review-a-ludicrous-series-that-knows-it.html">totally ludicrous</a>, that's exactly what makes the series so fun. 
"Banshee" opens with our protagonist (Anthony Starr) walking out of prison after a 15-year stint for what we later learn was a botched robbery. He immediately tracks down his ex-lover/partner-in-crime and discovers that she has since become a completely new person with a new identity and family to boot. 
The unnamed criminal treks all the way to Amish country in Banshee, PA to find her, but once he does, she tells him to stay out of her life. This leads our hero to a local bar to drown his sorrows, and the only other patron at this bar just so happens to be the new Banshee sheriff, who starts the job the following day. Some thugs with horrible luck decide to rob this bar, and after a spectularly violent sequence, the new sheriff as well as both thieves are dead. 
In a moment of fleeting stupidity/total genius, our mysterious drifter takes the dead sheriff's credentials and assumes his identity, effectively becoming Lucas Hood, sheriff of Banshee, PA. As of the end of season two, his real name still remains a mystery.
<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div>If that mini-synopsis makes "Banshee" sound like the pulpiest, kitschiest show on television, that's because it is. What starts as a flimsy plan to win back his woman winds up cutting way deeper as Hood learns that Banshee is a town full of dirty little secrets and takes it upon himself to legitimately patrol the town. What may read as convoluted on paper works on screen due to the show's frenetic energy and total disregard for political-correctness. 
Alan Ball and showrunners Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler seem to believe that crafting impressive action sequences and graphic sex scenes are more important than all else, and in this case, I'd argue they're right. Fortunately, the characters that inhabit Banshee are all fascinating and given just enough backstory to allow the audience to really connect.
There's Carrie Hopewell, Hood's old fling and the entire reason he came to Banshee in the first place, Kai Proctor, the evil mastermind (of Amish descent) on the top of the Banshee food-chain, his niece Rebecca, Alex Longshadow, a Native Kinaho, and Job, Hood's flamboyant right-hand-man who is to "Banshee" what <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=890ULiSXZSY">Lafayette</a> is to "True Blood." Ulrich Thomsen's performance as villain Kai Proctor is easily the most compelling part of the show - you'd be hard pressed to find anybody as crazy as he is anywhere else on television. He steals every scene he's in and truly earns his horrifying reputation time and time again.
Once connections between the Amish community, the Kinaho tribe, and all the relevant players are made explicity clear, the show really takes off running and moves from one terrific setpiece to the next as Hood tries his best to both protect the town from the evil mastermind who essentially runs the town and deal with his own demons. Eventually, Hood's past comes back to haunt him when his two worlds collide. 
"Banshee" is an exercise in excess - the sheer amount of violence, sex, and evil in each episode is astounding. The show is so ridiculously over-the-top that it borders on absurd brlliance. Before you know where one completely crazy subplot is going, another one even more off-the-wall pops up.

The action on "Banshee" is more well-choreographed and satisfying than the majority of major motion pictures. There's one particularly bloody fight scene from episode three in which Lucas Hood scraps with a MMA fighter for what feels like 15 minutes. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqRPaucl8r4">This sequence </a>is so memorably brutal and encompasses the philosophy of the show that it can act as a litmus test for whether or not someone will enjoy the series. 
Empirically, "Banshee" shouldn't work as well as it does. The dialogue can get a bit hokey, and some of the big action sequences go too far even for the standards set by the series. From my brief description, it may sound like a violent misogynist's wet dream with little artistic merit, but there's more to it than that.
The beauty of the show is all in the execution. Ball knows his way around crafting entertaining television, and as the show progresses it's hard to not get wrapped up in all its eccentric, visceral glory. 
"Banshee" is expected to return to Cinemax in January 2015. The first two seasons are currently available to <a href="http://www.maxgo.com/">Cinemax subscribers</a>.
