On November 18, the Yellow Line, which connects Millennium City Centre in Gurugram to Samaypur Badli in Delhi, saw the highest passenger traffic, with a record 20.99 lakh commuters. The Blue Line followed closely with 20.80 lakh passengers, while the Red Line recorded 8.56 lakh commuters, 8.15 lakh in Pink Line and 7.93 lakh in Violet Line. The Magenta Line saw 6.19 lakh passengers, followed by the Green Line with 4.12 lakh commuters, 81,985 in Airport Line, 57,701 in Rapid Metro, and 50,128, in the Grey Line, as per the data. Thick grey haze continued to choke Delhi for the third consecutive day on Tuesday, with pollution levels remaining alarmingly high at 488 in the 'severe plus' category. To encourage more people to use the metro in this scenario, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is running 60 extra trips on weekdays, offering more capacity than usual, an official statement said. The DMRC has recorded its 25 highest passenger journeys since August this year, the statement added. It emphasised that the more people opt for the metro over private vehicles, the greater the reduction in vehicular emissions, which will help improve the air quality of the city and its surrounding areas. In addition, the DMRC has introduced several measures to make travel more convenient for passengers, the statement read. These include the ability to book single or multiple journey tickets through various digital platforms, allowing passengers to plan their journeys anytime and anywhere without the need to stand in queues at the station. Furthermore, partnerships with organisations such as IRCTC, NCRTC, ITPO, and others have made it easier for people to not only travel by metro but also access interconnected travel options, along with various offers and events, all with seamless ease, the statement said. Apple’s approach uses a new metric called "Breathing Disturbances." This feature leverages the Apple Watch’s accelerometer to monitor wrist movements associated with breathing patterns during sleep. Every 30 days, the watch will assess data for any irregularities and alert users if it detects signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea. These notifications will serve as early warnings, encouraging users to consult with healthcare professionals for further diagnosis or treatment. Users will also be able to view their nightly breathing data on their iPhone, categorised as “elevated” or “not elevated.” With this, Apple aims to promote a better understanding of sleep quality. Cases of malaria are considerably higher so far when compared to last year. Delhi has reported 363 malaria cases till this month while the figure stood at 294 in the corresponding month in 2023. As per a PTI report, the total malaria cases last year were 426. Most malaria cases are reported from the West Delhi zone. As for Chikungunya, 43 cases have been reported so far. This is nearly double than last year when the figure stood at 23. A total of 65 cases of the virus were reported last year. The most number of chikungunya cases have been reported from the South Delhi zone this year. Last week, the city witnessed a spike of nearly 250 cases of dengue in seven days. As per Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) data from January till September 21, a total of 1,229 dengue cases have been reported in the city with the death of a 54-year old registered in Lok Nayak Hospital, a senior official at the hospital had confirmed. Delhi reported 651 cases of dengue this month. Last month, a total of 256 dengue cases were reported in the city. The number of cases has become three-digit since August, it said. Last year, Delhi reported 3,013 dengue cases till the corresponding month, a manifold increase from 525 in 2022. A total of 9,266 cases were reported in the entire year while 19 dengue deaths were registered in the city last year. In September alone, the figure stood at 2,141 cases in 2023. The most number of cases this year are reported from the Najafgarg zone at 180. In a week, 45 cases have been reported in the area, the highest of all the zones besides the south zone where an equal number of cases were reported this week. The non-MCD areas governed by other agencies like NDMC, Delhi Cantt, and Railways, reported 312 dengue cases to the total tally, as per the data. To enforce mosquito control laws, the MCD has issued over 1.14 lakh legal notices and 39,338 challans to those who allowed mosquito breeding on their properties. Repeat offenders have been fined Rs 24.82 lakh, and police complaints have been filed against 9,241 people who didn't follow the rules, as per the data. The civic body also plans to increase fogging operations at major upcoming public events like Dussehra and Durga Puja and step up inspections and anti-larval measures in areas with high mosquito populations to curb the infectivity of the virus.
