Monday's Direct was watched by over three million concurrent viewers across platforms like YouTube and Twitch, according to <a href="https://twitter.com/Slasher/status/1362175564602372096">esports reporter Rod "Slasher Breslau. </a></p><p>The announcement of shooter Splatoon 3, Mario costumes coming to Animal Crossing, and a pair of new Zelda-themed Joy-Cons caught a fair share of the attention, but they weren't the stars of the show. As with past Nintendo Directs, the show opened up with brand new reveals for downloadable characters coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Pyra and Mythra from the hack and slash adventure Xenoblade Chronicles 2 were announced as joining the Smash series and social media shared a wide range of emotion.</p><p>Some users either expressed their disdain that another anime character is getting added over Nintendo's classic characters, while others were just excited at the thought of being able to switch between the pair easily. </p><p>Fans of the late Desmond Amofah, or streamer Etika, were elated.</p><p>Since his passing in June of 2019, his community has continued to celebrate his legacy and his love of Nintendo products. Super Smash Bros. reveals are an integral part to the community and identity of Etika, with his most popular videos starring the streamer getting excited for character reveals like the Pokemon Mewtwo for Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U.</p><p>Fans of Amofah have been quick to point out that the second DLC Fighter Pass for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is full of characters he enjoyed. The first reveal, Min Min, was Amofah's favorite character to play in the fighting title Arms. Steve from Minecraft and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7 were then announced, with both titles being popular with the content creator. Now with Pyra and Myrtha added, characters Amofah described as his "waifus" when he played through Xenoblade Chronicles 2, this seeming string of coincidences continues.</p><p>"Etika" trended worldwide on Twitter Wednesday night with over 20,000 tweets mentioning the late Nintendo hype-man. </p><p>Though controversy has circled the legacy of the late streamer, <a href="https://www.insider.com/etikas-half-brother-caridnal-valery-9ine-streamer-legacy-2021-1">with his half-brother most recently feuding with members of Etika's own community,</a> the love for the streamer is stronger than ever. </p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li> Cardinal Valery, the half-brother of late video game streamer <keyword id="9257249" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="etika">Etika</keyword>, has recently been embroiled in controversy.</li><li>Valery created a GoFundMe, sold merchandise, and promoted his brand using the legacy of his half-brother.</li><li>Some Redditors and Twitter users have criticized Valery, saying he "won't let his own brother rest."</li></ul><p>Desmond "Etika" Amofah <a href="https://www.insider.com/etika-youtuber-is-dead-nypd-confirms-2019-6">passed away in June 2019</a> and the <keyword id="136654" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Nintendo">Nintendo</keyword> streamer's community has continued to memorialize him.</p><p>Known best for having high energy reactions to "Super Smash Bros." reveals and an uplifting personality, Desmond pulled in a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/desmond-etika-amofah-youtuber-death-friend-colleague-reactions-2019-6">devoted audience</a> through his streams who continue to eulogize and remember him years after his passing. With a mural painted in Brooklyn of his face, common viral hashtags, and thousands raised in charity under his name, it's clear to anyone watching that his fans continue to rally around his "JoyCon Boyz" movement. </p><p>But now, a controversy involving Etika's fanbase and his half-brother, Cardinal Valery, has some questioning who has Etika's legacy at heart. Etika's most devoted fans on Reddit and Twitter are accusing Valery of exploiting Etika's brand and death for personal monetary gain.</p><h2><strong>Valery appeared in Etika's online community in 2020</strong></h2><p>The conflict started when Valery popped-up in the community devoted to Etika in 2020.</p><p>In August 2019, Nintendo Switch <a href="https://www.theloadout.com/etika-joy-cons">Joy-Con controller customizer Alex Blake announced</a> that he would be creating custom shells for the device in honor of Etika. The IndieGoGo project raised $37,000 with $10,000 going to charity. </p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lSbDZ5XlFg">In a December 2020 video</a> with James Malaty of the "JoyConBoyz" YouTube channel, however, he had been told from Blake that Nintendo had issued a cease and desist because his controllers had the official "JoyCon" branding on the hilt. The video went viral with a wave of anti-Nintendo sentiment. </p><p>It was at this point that Valery took to Instagram to criticize Blake, saying he was "using [his] brother's name for profit." Valery went on to say that he would like to be "closer to the Etika community" and that none of these projects had gotten the family's "permission" first. Previously, Desmond's family had little to no contact with those in the streamer space.</p><p>"His family is not public," <a href="https://www.theloadout.com/etika-joy-cons">Blake told The Loadout in December.</a> "They're not exactly out advertising who they are or opening up a charity in his honor that I could've donated to.</p><p>Blake posted a Twitter thread explaining how the money broke down with receipts and how he didn't make a profit on this run of Joy-Cons. He had to purchase the controllers themselves, buy custom shells, have them properly installed, pay processing fees and them ship them out, which came to around the full amount.</p><h2>Valery's claim of a faked text-message sewed doubts among critics</h2><p>After appearing on a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jkD-m9TzSY">December 12 Instagram live stream</a> with Malaty, Valery announced he wanted to start selling Etika merch and live <keyword id="572624" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Streaming">streaming</keyword> more often. Shortly after, Valery started posting on Instagram about <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ui-puaY01xU">TheCraftroom.biz</a>, a website with an "Etika Collection" that has out of stock options for branded hoodies and shirts. He also announced that he would be streaming himself playing "Super Smash Bros" on Instagram and eventually Twitch. </p><p>The Etika community was overwhelmingly welcoming to Valery and his new "9INE" brand at this point, with many believing he had his brother's legacy at heart and that others shouldn't be <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/EtikaRedditNetwork/comments/k9ss0a/etikas_brother_on_the_whole_situation_rn_i_kinda/">capitalizing on their family's tragedy.</a> That changed when Valery started to stoke controversy in other areas of internet <keyword id="24504" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="culture">culture</keyword>. </p><p>On January 8, 2021, Valery claimed on Instagram that a text that had been sent to drama personality Daniel "Keemstar'' Keem from Desmond's mother Sabrina was fake. Keem had interviewed Etika days before his passing and his mother personally reached out to say that Keem "is not responsible for (her) son's passing and should not be held accountable for (her) son's actions." </p><p>In the caption, Valery claimed that his "mother has never spoken to this man and that she has never wanted ANY affiliation or any entities or businesses on the internet." The claim gained traction on social media until Desmond's ex-girlfriend Alice Pika, as she goes by on Twitter, refuted that fact and wrote that Sabrina "does not communicate" with Valery. </p><p>"That text was very much real," Alice told Insider. "When I reached out to Sabrina after (Desmond) died, I was surprised she responded back to me...But I guess he is embarrassed to admit that to his audience." </p><p>According to Alice, she's spoken to Sabrina's godson who "speaks for her" and said they should "let Cardinal cry it out."</p><h2>Critics began alleging that Valery was taking advantage of Etika's legacy</h2><p>After the back-and-forth around the text message, the Etika community seemed to go through a shift in their impression of Valery.</p><p>They noticed that Valery had <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/etikaforever?sharetype=teams&amp;member=7548530&amp;utm_medium=copy_link&amp;utm_source=customer&amp;utm_campaign=p_na+share-sheet&amp;rcid=96ef9df3f5564f5e91b1824e8c1a7a0d4f5e91b1824e8c1a7a0d">created a GoFundMe</a> for an "#EtikaForeverMovement" that asked for money for a  "production team for my first youtube and the official merchandise production." Valery has also created merchandise with the "E" Etika logo, posted self-promotion links on Reddit, and continues to post on his story about not "pay(ing) attention to false narratives." He's also <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/EtikaRedditNetwork/comments/kxvsj1/shoutout_to_everybody_who_been_following_and/">posted self-promotion</a> on The EtikaWorldNetwork Reddit, a subreddit that has been left as a memorial to the late streamer. One commentor wrote "his brother isn't carrying his legacy he's using Etika's name for his own gain." </p><p>Some of Etika's most hardcore supporters on Twitter and Reddit are now questioning Valery's motives.</p><div type="image" title="Etika brother alice" height="2960" width="1440" msid="80392825" hostid="261"></div><p>Malaty, who Valery previously criticized, wrote in a <a href="https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sri5u4">note that</a> "it is my personal opinion that [Valery] does not have the community's best interests in heart, but only his own." In a post on the <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/EtikaRedditNetwork/comments/l16iva/definitive_guide_to_the_drama_surrounding_etikas/">EtikaWorldReddit</a> posted four days after giving a timeline on all of the drama, Malaty added, "many people dislike the way [Valery] has directly avoided answering questions about Money, whether or not his whole family agree with what he's doing...All of that, and just his general attitude towards members of the community, has made many people distrustful of him and his intentions."</p><p>Other posts and comments on the EtikaWorldReddit seemed to mirror those sentiments. "Sucks that even his own brother can't let him rest," wrote <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/EtikaRedditNetwork/comments/l16iva/definitive_guide_to_the_drama_surrounding_etikas/gjxuuos?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=web2x&amp;context=3ontext=3">one user. </a>"Unfortunately, this will put an inevitable divide in the community, more than it already has," <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/EtikaRedditNetwork/comments/l16iva/definitive_guide_to_the_drama_surrounding_etikas/gjxs28s?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=web2x&amp;context=3ontext=3">wrote another. </a></p><p>Some defended Valery, believing that he has Desmond's best interests at heart and want to see him succeed. Kai Ninja, a fan of Desmond's, appeared on a January 17 live stream with Valery to discuss the community feedback. Valery said he only made "$74 dollars from donations" over the past month and that he is "not selling merch." </p><p>"What's the panic about, why are ya'll upset?" Kai says. "This man has not even done anything yet, he hasn't dropped a video yet, he hasn't struck anybody down...Before anything gets off the ground, we already have people trying to cancel people." Kai declined to comment for this story.</p><p>Figuring out how to best honor a content creator that's no longer around isn't easy. Their content immortalizes them to a fan base that can view that moment in their life through rose-tinted glasses, remembering the joy Etika brought when he got hyped over <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPTpGlwh2HU">Mewtwo coming to a fighting game.</a> Trying to monetize that legacy, even as a blood relative, can be complicated.   </p><p>Valery did not immediately respond to questions sent for comment. </p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>After an explosive "Content Nuke" video by <keyword id="9054916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ethan-klein">Ethan Klein</keyword> about Daniel "<keyword id="3329948" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="keemstar">Keemstar</keyword>" Keem criticizing the YouTube drama reporter's conduct, Keem announced his longtime sponsorship with energy drink company G Fuel ended.</li><li>Keem said he "walked away" from the gaming and esports energy drink brand after an outpouring of hate overwhelmed G Fuel's recent social media posts, which spawned from h3h3Production's Klein.</li><li>Klein's "Content Nuke" criticized Keem's reports on fellow YouTuber <keyword id="9257249" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="etika">Etika</keyword>, who died by suicide in June 2019 after turbulent appearances on DramaAlert, Keem's flagship YouTube channel.</li></ul><p>A prominent, longtime sponsorship in the Youtube gaming community has ended after an explosive video attacked Daniel "Keemstar" Keem's conduct as an independent YouTube drama reporter and host of "DramaAlert," his flagship YouTube channel with more than 5 million subscribers.</p><p>The infamous, controversial drama arbiter landed in hot water this week after rival YouTuber Ethan Klein of <keyword id="9054917" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="h3h3productions">h3h3Productions</keyword> made a "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3gXcIifc3o&amp;t=2361s361s">Content Nuke</a>" video in the style of <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o3TfHjj_e4">a 2016 "Content Cop"</a> Keemstar takedown by YouTuber iDubbbz.</p><p>Klein <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3gXcIifc3o&amp;t=2361s361s">accused Keem</a> of lying about Klein committing felony fraud and accepting profits from video game company Starbreeze Studios to fight a prominent <a href="https://kotaku.com/payday-2-makers-donate-dlc-profits-to-help-big-youtuber-1795126319">copyright infringement complaint</a>. Klein spoke to Starbreeze's Global Brand Director on-camera to dispute Keem's claim and brought forward other examples of Keem's controversial behavior and journalistic practices. </p><p>One of Klein's repeated points was that G Fuel – a gaming and esports energy drink company with prominent gaming personality sponsorships – continued to sponsor Keem, despite these ethical questions and controversial feuds. Keem was a longtime G Fuel partner who had his own discount code and cotton candy energy drink flavor, and G Fuel has also recruited other personalities, including members of esports group FaZe Clan, who have similar sponsorships.</p><p>In his response to Klein, titled "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO5t_vKPjeI">H3h3 lies</a>," Keem announced that he was no longer sponsored by G Fuel. Keem said he "walked away" from G Fuel after Klein questioned the sponsorship, spawning hate comments and requests to drop Keem on G Fuel's recent social media posts. </p><h2>Klein questioned Keem's interviews with Etika, a YouTuber who battled mental illness before his death by suicide in 2019</h2><p>Keem plans to release another response video to Klein's "Content Nuke" addressing even more of Klein's arguments, but he released one response entirely focused on his involvement with <keyword id="9257251" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="desmond-amofah">Desmond Amofah</keyword>, a gaming YouTuber known by Etika online who <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/etika-youtubers-are-calling-for-final-video-to-be-restored-2019-6">died by suicide</a> in June 2019.</p><p>In "Content Nuke," Klein explored Keem's relationship with Amofah prior to his death. Keem hosted a number of DramaAlert segments with Etika, including one episode when he interviewed Amofah shortly after he was discharged from a mental health facility he had been taken to by police officers. </p><p>Klein criticized Keem for what Klein suggested was egging on Amofah. At one point, Keem hypothetically asked Amofah to consider jumping off a building. Klein pointed out that weeks later, Amofah disappeared before being found by authorities and pronounced dead. </p><p>In "H3h3 lies," Keem accused Klein of blaming him for Amofah's death, although Klein never specifically blamed Keem for causing Amofah to die by suicide. In a follow-up tweet, Klein wrote "I most certainly did not blame keemstar for etikas [sic] death. I think he created an extremely toxic environment for him and others."</p><p>But Keem said the implication that him telling Amofah to consider jumping off a building his death equated to Klein saying Keem "killed Etika." In his defense, Keem showed public statements from Amofah's former girlfriend and a message Keem says he received from Amofah's mother shortly after Amofath's death. Both seemingly said Keem was not to blame for Amofah's death. </p><p>Keem also argued that Klein's video was not being received positively in the YouTube community, but Klein's video currently has a much higher like-to-dislike ratio than Keem's does. A 29-year-old YouTube star's sudden death is sparking an outpouring of grief and frustration among his fans and colleagues

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Jason Ethier, known as <keyword id="10940846" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="jaystation">JayStation</keyword>, has had his last two <keyword id="10879" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="YouTube">YouTube</keyword> channels banned. </li><li>On Twitter, Ethier said he plans on suing YouTube and that the bans were "random."</li><li>Ethier has a long history of controversy and recently called COVID "fake" on Instagram.</li></ul><p>Jason Ethier, known online as JayStation, said he plans to sue YouTube after the platform terminated his last two channels.</p><p>The controversial YouTuber's "ImJayStation" channel had over 6.2 million subscribers before it was "terminated for a terms of service violation," <a href="https://twitter.com/TeamYouTube/status/1370526960523284481">according to a tweet from YouTube's creator-support account.</a> Ethier's second channel, "666," which had under a million subscribers, was also taken off the site. </p><p>Ethier is no stranger to controversy and has been making waves in the YouTube space since he started posting in 2015. After his main channel was demonetized following a November 2016 arrest, Ethier began posting on different channels, which have since been suspended. </p><p>The creator's previous channel suspensions have all come after major controversies. YouTube did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, and it was not clear whether the creator recently violated the platform's guidelines.</p><p>In a series of tweets on Friday, Ethier claimed that he recently "switched his content" from pranks to reaction videos in an effort to comply with YouTube rules. He claimed he would sue the company.</p><p>Ethier can no longer create a YouTube channel as it would constitute <keyword id="6354651" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="ban">ban</keyword> evasion and cause his newer channel to be taken down. </p><p>Ethier claimed in a video posted to Twitter at 3 AM on Saturday that the ban was "random." </p><p>"I'm going to have a channel on YouTube, it's going to be big but I can't tell anybody and it isn't going to have my face," Ethier says in the video. </p><p>Ethier also sparked controversy on Instagram, falsely claiming that "COVID is fake as f---" and telling followers not to get vaccinated or wear masks to protect themselves from the deadly illness.  </p><p>Ethier did not respond to a request for comment. </p><h2>JayStation has a long history of contention with YouTube</h2><p>Ethier's original JayStation channel was dedicated to pranks, where he posted "24-hour challenge" videos that showed him seemingly entering homes and businesses with no legal right to be in.</p><p>In November 2016, Ethier was charged with <a href="https://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/star-of-24-hour-challenge-video-channel-charged-after-quitting-job-to-focus-on-making-videos">five counts of trespassing by the </a>Ottawa Police, and YouTube demonetized the channel shortly after. The Ottawa Police Department did not immediately respond to Insider's inquiry regarding the status of the charges.</p><p>Though the original JayStation channel remained up, Ethier switched over to ImJayStation to post his monetizable content. There, he became an even larger infamous figure, posting his "3 am Challenge" videos that had him pretend to use a Ouija board to contact deceased celebrities shortly after their passing, like Desmond "Etika" Amofah, XXXTentacion, and Kobe Bryant. </p><p>But the creator's most widely publicized controversy came in January 2020, when he claimed that his girlfriend, YouTuber Alexia Marano, had been killed in a drunk driving accident. Four days later, Ethier admitted that her death was just a prank, causing social-media users to pick up on the story. In a now-deleted video on his channel, Ethier said, "I expected all of this to stay on YouTube and it didn't."</p><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/youtuber-didnt-want-death-hoax-videos-ex-boyfriend-jaystation-alexia-2020-1">Marano said in a since-deleted video</a> that she did not want to take part in these pranks and left Ethier right after. The pair then <a href="https://www.insider.com/jaystation-reunites-with-ex-after-death-hoax-and-arrest-2020-4">started posting videos again together in April,</a> though they have not appeared together in recent months.</p><p>Ethier claimed in a January 2020 video that Marano spoke to police and a warrant had been issued for his arrest. <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/youtuber-imjaystation-claims-warrant-has-been-issued-his-arrest-toronto-police-deny-warrant-exists-1484249">The Toronto Police Department told Newsweek</a> in February 2020 that Ethier was charged with both assault and assault with a weapon. The status of those charges was not immediately clear at press time. </p><p>By the end of that month, Ethier's "ImJayStation" channel had also been demonetized and the YouTuber said in a video that he would be taking a break from the channel. </p><p>Ethier had transitioned to a new "666" channel last summer, creating commentary and gameplay videos to capitalize on YouTube's algorithm in an effort to reach new viewers. That channel was also removed by YouTube on March 12.</p>

Some of the most popular creators on the internet are frequently the most controversial, growing their infamy with each hot take or disliked video, as evidenced by a recent Insider poll. </p><p>Insider <a href="https://www.insider.com/jojo-siwa-coming-out-more-famous-insider-poll-2021-4">surveyed</a> over 1,000 people through SurveyMonkey Audience to find out which of over 75 influencers are the most well-known, liked, and disliked online. Insider <a href="https://www.insider.com/most-famous-influencers-insider-data-logan-paul-pewdiepie-2021-2">previously conducted a similar poll in December 2020</a>.</p><p>Here are the top 10 most-disliked influencers, according to Insider's poll. </p><h2><strong>10. David Dobrik</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="David Dobrik" height="2666" width="4000" msid="82154369" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>Starting off the list is <a href="https://www.youtube.com/c/DavidDobrik/featured">David Dobrik,</a> the YouTuber with 18.4 million subscribers and founder of Dispo, a social-media app. Throughout this year, his popularity took a sharp decline after a woman featured in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/vlog-squad-durte-dom-rape-allegation-david-dobrik-zeglaitis-video-2021-3">one of his vlogs</a> told Insider she was sexually assaulted by a former member of Dobrik's Vlog Squad. He's lost sponsorships, brand deals, and subscribers to the scandal and has since posted two apology videos. </p><p>Dobrik's unfavorability more than doubled since Insider's previous poll, bringing him to a 46% rating. </p><h2>9. <strong style="color: #000000;">Shane Dawson</strong></h2><h2><div type="image" title="Shane Dawson" height="765" width="1413" msid="82154370" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>Shane Dawson, one of YouTube's <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCV9_KinVpV-snHe3C3n1hvA">earliest successful pioneers,</a> earns the ninth spot on the list. After having his online reputation <a href="https://www.insider.com/how-shane-dawson-went-from-king-of-youtube-to-canceled-2020-7">annihilated in 2020</a> when offensive clips resurfaced online, Dawson has all but disappeared from online discourse in recent months. </p><p>Of the 23% of survey respondents who said they knew of Dawson, 48% found him unfavorable. With Dawson seemingly out of the spotlight, it's a testament to his legacy that he is still that well known and disliked.</p><h2>8. <strong style="color: #000000;">The Ace Family</strong></h2><p><strong style="color: #000000;"><div type="image" title="bryce hall austin mcbroom fight" height="725" width="966" msid="82154371" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>Austin McBroom, Catherine Paiz, and their three children are the stars of the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWwWOFsW68TqXE-HZLC3WIA">ACE Family</a> channel on YouTube. With 19 million subscribers and videos that pull in hundreds of thousands of views, their content mostly centers on family vlogs and tours of their mansion.</p><p>The family has been involved in controversy. McBroom has said called his fans <a href="https://www.insider.com/austin-mcbroom-ace-family-complains-people-should-pay-youtube-videos-2019-12">"ungrateful"</a> for his free content, ran a charity basketball game and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlG5pkwCo5M">donated $75,000</a> of the $100,000 he promised, and posted a video of his young daughter <a href="https://www.exposingsmg.com/blog/the-ace-family-is-austin-mcbroom-a-rapist">licking a penis-shaped lollipop in a sex shop. </a></p><p>Of those surveyed, 13% knew of the family, with 50% of those respondents finding them unfavorable - up 5% from the 2020 poll.  </p><h2><strong>7. Lovely Peaches</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Lovely Peaches" height="710" width="947" msid="82154372" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>Internet provocateur and musician Brittany Johnson, known online as <a href="https://www.instagram.com/lovelypeachesmusicforever2001/?hl=en">Lovely Peaches,</a> has built up a career by being controversial. With over 100,000 subscribers on YouTube and 164,000 followers on Instagram, fans seem to watch a lot of her content just to keep up with her wild antics. <a href="https://www.insider.com/lovely-peaches-arrest-instagram-video-dog-alleged-animal-cruelty-2021-1">In January 2021,</a> she was arrested on animal-cruelty charges after allegedly picking up her dog by the neck and spraying perfume in its face.</p><p>Treating animals poorly remains a simple way to earn disdain online: 9% of those surveyed knew Johnson and 50% of those found her unfavorable. </p><h2><strong>6. <keyword id="9082331" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="jeffree-star">Jeffree Star</keyword></strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Jeffree Star" height="1500" width="2000" msid="82154373" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkvK_5omS-42Ovgah8KRKtg">Jeffree Star, the infamous beauty guru</a> who has been <a href="https://www.insider.com/jeffree-star-sexual-assault-allegations-violence-accused-predator-myspace-payments-2020-9">accused of</a> tasing, sexual assault, and hush-money bribes, lands at number 6 on the list. <a href="https://www.insider.com/most-disliked-hated-influencers-poll-jake-logan-paul-jeffree-star-2021-2">In Insider's last poll,</a> Star was the sixth-most-disliked. </p><p>With 16.5 million YouTube subscribers and a line of successful makeup lines, Star has found a way to monetize extreme controversy. </p><p>28% knew who he was - up from 23% in the previous poll - and 52% found him unfavorable, down 4% from last time. </p><h2>5. <strong style="color: #000000;">Zoe Laverne</strong></h2><h2><div type="image" title="Zoe Laverne visits the Young Hollywood Studio on February 7, 2020 in Los Angeles, California." height="3648" width="4864" msid="82154374" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>The 19-year-old with <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@zoelaverne?lang=en">17 million TikTok followers</a> has faced multiple controversial accusations over the course of her short career. <a href="https://www.insider.com/zoe-laverne-kiss-13-age-connor-joyce-how-old-fake-arrest-2020#now-infamous-leaked-audio-also-showed-laverne-getting-frustrated-and-proclaiming-herself-the-star-of-tiktok-7">In 2020</a>, leaked audio of Zoe Laverne insulting Charli D'Amelio went viral, and then she admitted to kissing and  "catching feelings" for a 13-year-old fan.</p><p>Most recently, in February, Laverne announced that she was pregnant with her current 20-year-old boyfriend.</p><p>Laverne held onto the same spot on the list as last time, with 6% knowing who she is and 52% disliking her. </p><h2>4. <strong style="color: #000000;">Keemstar</strong></h2><h2><div type="image" title="Keemstar Trisha Paytas" height="1080" width="1440" msid="82154375" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>One of the most infamous drama channel hosts on YouTube, Daniel Keem, known as Keemstar, earns a spot halfway through the list.</p><p>The host of DramaAlert, which has 5.8 million YouTube subscribers, Keem's online persona frequently involves trying to get a rise out of social-media users and influencers, such as with his feuds with other online personalities like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ethan-klein-h3h3-keemstar-old-spice-sponsorship-productions-feud-2020-5">YouTuber Ethan Klein.</a> Sometimes his contoversies are radioactive, like when in 2019 he told Desmond "Etika" Amofah to "just jump off a cliff" just days before his suicide.</p><p>Recent Twitter feuds with K-Pop and Minecraft stans may have bumped Keem up from the ninth spot on the previous list.  Of the 10% who knew who he was, 57% found him unfavorable (up 10% from the previous list). </p><h2><strong>3. Logan Paul</strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Logan Paul" height="1500" width="2000" msid="82154376" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>One of YouTube's most well known and controversial figures is Logan Paul, the elder of the two Paul brothers. With over 22 million <a href="https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=logan+paul">YouTube subscribers</a>, a successful podcast and a (less successful) boxing career, Logan, 26, keeps himself busy.</p><p>Over the pandemic, he announced he was going to move to <a href="https://www.dexerto.com/entertainment/logan-paul-sparks-backlash-after-claiming-hes-moving-to-puerto-rico-over-taxes-1525594/">Puerto Rico</a> and caused the <a href="https://www.insider.com/pokemon-card-opening-day-celebration-video-logan-paul-elite-box-2021-2">Pokemon card market to explode in value</a>, but has remained fairly uncontroversial. But the stigma of his <a href="https://www.insider.com/logan-paul-podcast-controversies-drama-reputation-jake-2020-12">2018 suicide forest video</a>, where he allegedly<strong> </strong>filmed a dead body and posted it online, still hangs over his career.</p><p>Logan was the second spot on the previous list. His notoriety increased by 7 percentage points to 38%. His unfavorability rating also dropped from 68% to 64%.  </p><h2><strong style="color: #000000;">2. <keyword id="6130340" type="DEFINITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jake-Paul">Jake Paul</keyword></strong></h2><p><strong><div type="image" title="Jake Paul" height="1000" width="1333" msid="82154377" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>The "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcgVECVN4OKV6DH1jLkqmcA">everyday bro"</a> follows in his brother's footsteps and drops one spot lower on this list compared to last time. Though Logan Paul has tried to stay out of controversy the past few years, his brother has done the opposite. The list of his <a href="https://www.insider.com/jake-paul-controversies-timeline-looting-scandals-racist-slurs-drama-2020-6">recent controversies is long</a>- he threw a ragerr during quarantine, his house was raided by the FBI, called COVID-19 a hoax, and was charged with trespassing in Arizona after a video circulated of him at a mall where looting and vandalism were occurring.</p><p>4% more people knew who Jake was this time around, bringing his notoriety up to 34%. His unfavorability dropped the same percentage, bringing him at 67%. </p><h2><strong style="color: #000000;">1. Onision</strong></h2><p><strong style="color: #000000;"><div type="image" title="Onision" height="748" width="998" msid="82154378" hostid="261"></div></strong></p><p>The top spot on our list goes to James Jackson, known as <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/Onision">Onision</a>. He's been accused of <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/sarah-her-relationship-youtuber-onision-why-did-you-think-this-was-okay-1479119">grooming underage women</a>, body shaming in his videos, and killing a turtle he left under a plastic pool. On our last list, Jackson was only fourth but a recent docuseries released by Discovery+ may have contributed to his infamy.</p><p>On both lists, only 7% knew who Jackson was but his unfavorability grew by 16 percentage points, bringing it up to 75%. </p><p><em>SurveyMonkey Audience polls from a national sample balanced by census data of age and gender. Respondents are incentivized to complete surveys through charitable contributions. Generally speaking, digital polling tends to skew toward people with access to the internet. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Reports that <keyword id="187801" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Old-Spice">Old Spice</keyword> terminated its sponsorship of h3h3Production's <keyword id="9054916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ethan-klein">Ethan Klein</keyword> are circulating in the midst of an all-out war between the popular YouTuber and his nemesis Daniel "<keyword id="3329948" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="keemstar">Keemstar</keyword>" Keem.</li><li>Business Insider was unable to independently verify that Klein was dropped from Old Spice, but another popular commentary YouTuber who goes by Scarce says Klein <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STK2iR_rl9U&amp;feature=youtu.beu.be">privately confirmed it</a> to him. </li><li>Previously, Keem confirmed in a response to Klein's "Content Nuke" video that he "walked away" from his sponsor G Fuel after Klein's fans harassed the energy drink company over its ties with Keem.</li><li>Unverified screenshots of DMs purportedly sent between Old Spice's verified Twitter account and an anonymous Twitter user show the partnership was allegedly terminated because Klein has said the slurs "n*****" and "f*****" out loud before – once during <a href="https://www.vice.com/en_uk/article/gvka3j/h3h3-productions-are-the-married-couple-holding-bullshitter-youtubers-to-account">a 2017 Vice interview</a> about another YouTuber using the slurs out of context.</li><li>Whether Old Spice actually terminated the sponsorship or not, the anonymous Twitter user's point is that online trolls can attack Klein's sponsorships in the same way they think he attacked Keem's G Fuel sponsorship – an escalating topic of discussion in the commentary YouTube community.</li></ul><p>Another victory has supposedly been claimed for Daniel "Keemstar" Keem in the war between the YouTube drama reporter and his online nemesis Ethan Klein of <keyword id="9054917" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="h3h3productions">h3h3Productions</keyword>. But Keem insists the battle wasn't his own, and he's encouraging his supporters to stop the warfare before it becomes a precedent in the community.</p><p>Specifically, an anonymous anti-Klein Twitter user named "Hotep Albania" is claiming that the P&amp;G brand Old Spice terminated its sponsorship of Klein after they exchanged DMs with Old Spice's official Twitter account. Hotep Albania posted screenshots of the conversation, although Business Insider could not confirm their legitimacy, and screenshots can be easily faked or manipulated. </p><p>Business Insider reached out to representatives of Old Spice, as well as Klein, Keem, and Hotep Albania to try and verify the screenshots or confirm that a sponsorship was terminated, but did not receive any responses. </p><p>However, another popular YouTuber in the commentary community who goes by Scarce and has nearly 3 million subscribers says that <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STK2iR_rl9U&amp;feature=youtu.beu.be">Klein privately confirmed</a> to him that Old Spice did terminate his sponsorship.</p><p>Additionally, Keem quote-tweeted Hotep Albania's screenshots and asked his followers to "NOT GO AFTER ANY OF H3H3 sponsors!" Klein replied to Keem's tweet, and while he didn't confirm or deny the Old Spice termination, he added his own screenshot of Keem going after another person's sponsorship himself in 2019. </p><p>The Old Spice sponsorship battle is a continuation of an ongoing feud between Keem and Klein, which has spawned a debate over when or if it's ever ethical to try and convince a YouTuber's sponsor to drop them due to a controversy, perceived misconduct, or, in Keem's words, "internet beef."</p><h2>Keem and Klein have been battling it out through YouTube videos, and sponsors are quickly falling for the demands of trolls</h2><p>It all started because Klein was fed up with Keem's reporting on other <keyword id="860150" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="YouTubers">YouTubers</keyword>. Keem has built up an empire with his channel "DramaAlert," the title of his YouTube <keyword id="6355005" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="news">news</keyword> program. But Klein believes that Keem doesn't always do his due diligence as an independent reporter. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdpkW14cShk">Keem recently suggested</a> that Klein lied about using his own money to pay for a copyright lawsuit — a claim that Klein disputes. </p><p>Klein went on to produce a video about Keem titled "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3gXcIifc3o">Content Nuke</a>" that accused Keem of lying about Klein committing fraud, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/g-fuel-ends-keemstar-sponsorship-h3h3-ethan-klein-etika-2020-5">additionally compiled</a> examples of Keem's offensive past behavior, including a controversial interview with a YouTuber who would later die by suicide, where Keem appeared to suggest jumping off a bridge. The video exploded in the YouTube commentary community (a subgenre built off YouTubers making videos about other YouTubers and social media personalities), where both Klein and Keem have developed controversial reputations.</p><p>Keem first responded to Klein's "Content Nuke" in a video called "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO5t_vKPjeI">H3h3 lies</a>," in which Keem announced – after speculation – that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/g-fuel-ends-keemstar-sponsorship-h3h3-ethan-klein-etika-2020-5">he had "walked away"</a> from his longtime sponsor G Fuel. In "Content Nuke," Klein had repeatedly mentioned that G Fuel sponsored Keem despite his questionable conduct on DramaAlert. </p><p>After "Content Nuke" debuted, G Fuel's social media profiles were <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/g-fuel-ends-keemstar-sponsorship-h3h3-ethan-klein-etika-2020-5">spammed with comments</a> asking for the energy drink company to end its sponsorship of Keem. Over the next 24 hours, Keem's signature cotton candy-flavored energy drink starter disappeared from the G Fuel website, and his affiliate code "KEEM" stopped working. G Fuel didn't respond to Business Insider's request for comment. </p><p>In "H3h3 lies," Keem argued that Klein was setting a dangerous precedent for the commentary community: if you don't like someone, encourage your followers to spam their sponsors until they get dropped. Keem says this is a new tactic on YouTube, but it's not really new – it's also occurred in mainstream media, when controversial TV personalities like Laura Ingraham have <a href="https://www.politico.com/story/2018/10/16/ingraham-fox-news-advertising-902466">spawned boycotts</a> of her show's advertisers. </p><p>Klein made that same argument in his second rebuke, titled "Nuclear Fallout." Klein also said Keem himself has encouraged fans to go after people's sponsors in the past. Klein hasn't mentioned losing any sponsorships himself, although <a href="https://twitter.com/h3h3productions/status/1263622244032409600">he did joke</a> that his wife Hila's brand, Teddy Fresh, dropped them.</p><p>The reason cited for Old Spice terminating its sponsorship of Klein, at least in Hotep Albania's purported DMs with the company, is that Klein has said the slurs "n*****" and "f*****" out loud before. He has, at least once, in <a href="https://www.vice.com/en_uk/article/gvka3j/h3h3-productions-are-the-married-couple-holding-bullshitter-youtubers-to-account">a 2017 interview</a> with Vice. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Insider surveyed 1,000 people to figure out how well certain influencers are known and liked.</li><li>Data revealed which personalities had high unfavorability rankings.</li><li>Controversial YouTuber-cum-boxer <keyword id="6130340" type="DEFINITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jake-Paul">Jake Paul</keyword> topped the list, with his brother Logan in second. </li></ul><p>In the digital influencer world, courting controversy can be an effective business strategy. Some of YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram's biggest names have risen to fame by building their platforms on scandal; in the case of some online personalities like Jake Paul (more on him later) <a href="https://www.insider.com/cancel-culture-youtube-actually-help-a-youtubers-career-2020-12">cancelation actually serves to prolong their career.</a></p><p>Insider polled 1,040 people to <keyword id="15510" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Survey">survey</keyword> their feelings and level of familiarity with over 60 of social media's biggest names, with participants marking whether or not they knew a particular influencer or <keyword id="6355064" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Celebrity">celebrity</keyword> and whether their opinion of them was favorable or unfavorable. This included household names like Jake and <keyword id="2199400" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Logan-Paul">Logan Paul</keyword>, <a href="https://www.insider.com/how-youtube-supervillain-are-made-onision-amberlynn-reid-2020-4">YouTube "supervillains"</a> like <keyword id="9321228" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="onision">Onision</keyword>, and personalities who incorporated controversy into their brand like Instagram influencer and writer Caroline Calloway. We then looked at what percentage of people who knew about an influencer had an unfavorable opinion of them. </p><p>The data reveals influencers who, while known to the general public at varying levels, ranked highest among those whom survey participants had a negative opinion.</p><h2>10. Tana Mongeau</h2><div type="image" title="Tana Mongeau" height="1500" width="2000" msid="81004838" hostid="261"></div><p>Tana Mongeau had become one of YouTube's biggest stars by the time she hit 21 years old, mixing work online with traditional celebrity. <a href="https://www.insider.com/youtuber-tana-mongeau-interview-paris-hilton-gen-z-playlist-live-2020-3">Insider's Kat Tenbarge called her "Gen Z's Paris Hilton,"</a> and amid <a href="https://www.insider.com/tana-mongeau-new-details-season-2-no-filter-mtv-special-2019-12">reality shows</a> and vlogs, she's well-known in online circles. Still, she's been dogged by her fair share of controversy, from her <a href="https://www.inverse.com/article/46651-tanacon-is-the-latest-real-life-consequence-of-the-streaming-economy">disastrous 2018 TanaCon</a>, to a <a href="https://www.insider.com/youtubers-tana-mongeau-and-jake-paul-have-broken-up-2020-1#:~:text=The%20YouTube%20stars%20Tana%20Mongeau,they%20are%20taking%20a%20break.">brief marriage to controversial Youtuber Jake Paul</a>, to <a href="https://www.insider.com/tana-mongeau-responds-to-accusations-of-racism-and-ignorance-2020-6">racist comments that she made in the past</a>. </p><p>Out of those surveyed, 12.1% knew Tana Mongeau. 46% had an unfavorable opinion of her and 18.3% had a positive one. </p><h2>9. Keemstar</h2><div type="image" title="Keemstar" height="475" width="635" msid="81004841" hostid="261"></div><p>Daniel "Keemstar" Keem, was a pioneer of the YouTube drama channel, breaking down influencer shenanigans with the tabloid scrutiny afforded to mainstream celebrities. Since launching his famous DramaAlert channel in 2014, he's become a controversial figure in the community with a brand that, <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/youtuber-keemstar-being-half-loved-half-hated-whats-coming-next-1494539">as he told reporter Steven Asarch at Newsweek in 2020</a>, leaves him "half-loved and half-hated by design." In 2020, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/g-fuel-ends-keemstar-sponsorship-h3h3-ethan-klein-etika-2020-5">his sponsorship with energy drink company G Fuel ended</a> (with Keem saying that he "walked away") following a video from h3h3Productions' Ethan Klein that raised claims that Keem had exploited Etika, a YouTuber who died by suicide in 2019.</p><p>Out of those surveyed, 9.3% were aware of who Keemstar was and 47.4% had an unfavorable opinion of him, with 24.7% skewing favorable.</p><h2>8. Caroline Calloway</h2><div type="image" title="caroline calloway essay" height="494" width="659" msid="81004843" hostid="261"></div><p>Caroline Calloway rose as a controversial influencer figure in 2019, garnering mainstream media coverage across the board. An <a href="https://www.instagram.com/carolinecalloway/">Instagram influencer</a> who currently has 678,000 followers on the platform, has turned the accusations that she's a scam artist into a personal brand <a href="https://www.insider.com/caroline-calloway-book-deal-instagram-career-2019-1#the-workshop-series-fell-apart-7">after a workshop she planned went awry in 2019.</a> Later, her former ghostwriter <a href="https://www.thecut.com/2019/09/the-story-of-caroline-calloway-and-her-ghostwriter-natalie.html">authored a story for The Cut</a> about how she used to help Calloway write the stories that appeared on her Instagram.</p><p>Out of those surveyed, 3.2% knew Calloway, a surprise given the widespread <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/11/style/caroline-calloway-explainer.html">mainstream</a> <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/the-messiness-and-meaning-of-caroline-calloway/2019/09/13/7c84b4fe-d56c-11e9-9343-40db57cf6abd_story.html">media</a> <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/09/i-get-caroline-calloway/598918/">attention</a> that she's received in the past. 48.5% had an unfavorable opinion of her, while 36.4% had a favorable opinion.</p><h2>7. Zoe LaVerne</h2><div type="image" title="Zoe Laverne visits the Young Hollywood Studio on February 7, 2020 in Los Angeles, California." height="3648" width="4864" msid="81004847" hostid="261"></div><p>19-year-old Zoe LaVerne, a TikToker with over 17.5 million followers, has been <a href="https://www.insider.com/zoe-laverne-kiss-13-age-connor-joyce-how-old-fake-arrest-2020">embroiled in controversy for much of her career</a>. In late 2020, a leaked video appeared to show her kissing a 13-year-old fan that LaVerne said she had "caught feelings" for. Prior to that, she had indefinitely split from her ex-boyfriend Cody Orlove amid abuse allegations and also been called out for making disparaging comments about Charli D'Amelio, TikTok's most-followed creator. In November 2020, she said that she was seeking mental health treatment and took a brief hiatus online, but has since resumed posting.</p><p>Out of those surveyed, 5.8% knew LaVerne, with 55.7% responding that they had an unfavorable opinion of her and 27.9% skewing favorable.</p><h2>6. Jeffree Star</h2><div type="image" title="Jeffree Star" height="593" width="791" msid="81004855" hostid="261"></div><p>Jeffree Star is one of the oldest - and biggest - figures in the beauty YouTube community, building a beauty empire with his company Jeffree Star Cosmetics. He's also one of its most contentious. In 2020, <a href="https://www.insider.com/jeffree-star-sexual-assault-allegations-violence-accused-predator-myspace-payments-2020-9">Insider's Kat Tenbarge investigated claims of sexual assault against Star,</a> with <a href="https://www.insider.com/jeffree-star-sexual-assault-claims-hush-money-insider-investigation-2020-12">documents appearing to show</a> that a Jeffree Star Cosmetics executive had paid one of Star's accusers $45,000 in a hush-money payment. </p><p>Star's tenure as an influencer was reflected in his numbers, with 22.5% of survey respondents knowing who he was. However, his controversies also shone through: 55.7% had an unfavorable opinion of him, while 19.6% had a favorable one.</p><h2>5. Jacob Sartorius</h2><div type="image" title="jacob sartorius milan fashion week" height="4480" width="5973" msid="81004863" hostid="261"></div><p>It's a bit baffling that Jacob Sartorius, the 18-year-old star who rose to fame on Musical.ly in the latter half of the 2010s, is on this list in between Jeffree Star and Onision. Still, even back in 2016 when Sartorius was 13 years old, <a href="https://www.insider.com/who-is-jacob-sartorius-2016-8">one teen told Insider that "everybody either loves him or hates him."</a> Since then, Sartorius has continued making music and <a href="https://www.insider.com/tiktok-relationships-dating-celebrities-david-dobrik-addison-rae-daisy-keech-2020-4#former-musically-star-jacob-sartorius-once-had-an-on-again-off-again-relationship-with-stranger-things-star-millie-bobby-brown-4">was in an on-again, off-again relationship with "Stranger Things" star Millie Bobby Brown</a>. </p><p>Out of those surveyed, 10.1% knew who Jacob Sartorius was. 57.1% had an unfavorable opinion of him while 11.4% had a favorable one.</p><h2>4. Onision</h2><div type="image" title="Onision" height="748" width="998" msid="81004870" hostid="261"></div><p>Onision, a YouTuber who got his start in 2007 and whose real name is James "Greg" Jackson, was a popular creator who <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH5ay10RTGY">went viral for his "Banana Song" in 2009.</a> However, his fall from grace, <a href="https://www.insider.com/how-youtube-supervillain-are-made-onision-amberlynn-reid-2020-4">as Insider's Lindsay Dodgson reported</a>, was one of the most intense in YouTube history. In 2019, <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2019/11/26/20984785/onision-doxxing-patreon-deplatformed-twitter-youtube">six women accused him of harassment and emotional abuse</a> and he was banned from Patreon; most recently, he was removed from YouTube's partner program, meaning that his videos will no longer be monetized. He's <a href="https://mashable.com/article/onision-in-real-life-documentary-controversy-explained/?europe=true">previously disputed abuse allegations.</a></p><p>While only 6.8% of survey respondents knew who Onision was, he was in the top five of most unfavorable influencers for which Insider surveyed opinion. 59.2% had an unfavorable opinion of him, and 23.9% found him to be favorable.</p><h2>3. <keyword id="8299810" type="AGENCY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Trisha-paytas">Trisha Paytas</keyword></h2><div type="image" title="trisha paytas instagram account deactivated" height="1560" width="2080" msid="81004874" hostid="261"></div><p>Trisha Paytas has been an internet mainstay since the late 2000s, when she got her start on YouTube and furthered her fame through appearances on programs like <a href="https://www.insider.com/ellen-degeneres-show-trisha-paytas-video-appearanace-speed-reading-2021-1">"The Ellen DeGeneres Show"</a> and <a href="https://www.insider.com/trisha-paytas-americas-got-talent-agt-fake-staged-video-sabotaged-2021-1">"America's Got Talent."</a> A big name on both YouTube and TikTok, <a href="https://www.insider.com/life-and-controversies-of-youtuber-trisha-paytas-2019-8">she's been involved in numerous public feuds over the course of her career</a> and is known for sharing details about her personal life on YouTube.</p><p>An undeniable fixture of the influencer landscape, 11.3% of survey respondents knew who Paytas was. 66.1% had an unfavorable opinion of her, with 15.3% saying that they held her in a favorable light.</p><h2>2. Logan Paul</h2><div type="image" title="Logan Paul" height="1500" width="2000" msid="81004878" hostid="261"></div><p>Logan Paul ascended to online fame in 2013 when he and his brother Jake Paul began posting to short-form video app Vine, later moving onto YouTube after Vine shut down. Known for wild stunt videos, he's a controversial online personality, <a href="https://www.insider.com/youtube-star-logan-paul-apologised-after-filming-a-dead-body-in-japans-suicide-forest-2018-1">due in large part to a January 2018 video that showed Paul filming what appeared to be a dead body in Japan's Aokigahara forest</a>. That video drew widespread backlash, but <a href="https://www.insider.com/logan-paul-podcast-controversies-drama-reputation-jake-2020-12">as Insider's Lindsay Dodgson reported</a>, he's managed to orchestrate a redemption arc of sorts over the past several years and is generally considered to have a better reputation than his brother, Jake, a notion also reflected in Insider's data.</p><p>Logan Paul is the most well-known influencer on this list, with 30.6% of respondents saying that they knew who he was and putting him close to other big-name internet personalities like Joe Rogan, who was known by 37.2% of those surveyed. However, 68% had an unfavorable opinion of him, with 13.5% still holding a favorable one.</p><h2>1. Jake Paul</h2><div type="image" title="Jake Paul" height="1500" width="2000" msid="81004882" hostid="261"></div><p>Controversy has propelled the younger Paul brother, Jake, to greater and greater heights of fame since he and his brother became internet famous in the 2010s. Booted from the Disney Channel show "Bizaardvark" in 2017 <a href="https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/07/19/538103866/youtube-star-jake-pauls-neighbors-tell-him-were-not-jake-paulers">after his West Hollywood neighbors said that he had turned the street into a "war zone." </a> He's been <a href="https://www.insider.com/jake-paul-controversies-timeline-looting-scandals-racist-slurs-drama-2020-6">accused of scamming his young followers more than once</a>, come under fire for using slurs, and posting videos some said were inappropriate for his young audience. </p><p>Most recently, he was charged with trespassing in Arizona after footage of him at a mall where looting and vandalism were occurring circulated online; he's also thrown parties at his home in Calabasas, CA during the COVID-19 pandemic and <a href="https://www.insider.com/jake-paul-gun-fbi-search-video-la-police-firearms-mansion-2020-8">law enforcement seized what seemed to be large guns from his home during an August FBI raid</a>. Later in 2020, he <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/youtuber-jake-paul-believes-covid-is-a-hoaxand-i-am-fake-news">told The Daily Beast's Marlow Stern</a> that he thought that COVD-19 was a "hoax." He's <a href="https://www.insider.com/jake-paul-is-far-more-suited-to-boxing-than-youtube-2020-12">currently pursuing a boxing career.</a></p><p>Paul was the most-disliked influencer that Insider polled opinions of and was known by 29.5% of respondents. 71.4% had an unfavorable opinion of him, while 12.7% had a favorable one.</p><p><em>SurveyMonkey Audience polls from a national sample balanced by census data of age and gender. Respondents are incentivized to complete surveys through charitable contributions. Generally speaking, digital polling tends to skew toward people with access to the internet.
