"I think that guys now assume that I'm going the other way, which is fine. I've seen a lot of ugly penises. I've seen a lot of pretty ones." </p><p>Cohen added, "I thought that women must be throwing themselves at you right now. <ul class="summary-list"><li>HBO renewed Sam Levinson's "Euphoria" for a third season in February 2022.</li><li>Production has been delayed multiple times, but the show is still eyeing a return in 2025.</li></ul><p>HBO's popular teen drama series "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/euphoria-season-2-details-callbacks-references-2022-2">Euphoria</a>" will be back for another installment.</p><p>The show, which is created, written, and directed by Sam Levinson, centers on a 17-year-old drug addict named Rue Bennet (played by two-time Emmy winner <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/euphoria-zendaya-is-rue-dead-season-1-finale-cliffhanger-interview-2022-1">Zendaya</a>).</p><p>In early February 2022, amid a bonkers and wildly memed <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/euphoria-season-2-finale-unanswered-questions-2022-2">second season</a>, HBO announced that "Euphoria" was <a href="https://twitter.com/euphoriaHBO/status/1489644928690909184">renewed</a> for a third season.</p><p>Here's everything we know so far about season three. </p><h2>Barbie Ferreira won't return as Kat Hernandez</h2><div type="image" title="maddy kat euphoria season 2 episode 5" height="836" width="1115" msid="108771520" hostid="261"></div><p>Ferreira announced her exit from the show on her Instagram story in August 2022.</p><p>She shared a framed image of Kat, drawn by costar Hunter Schafer (Jules Vaughn), and wrote: "after four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character kat, I'm having to say a very teary eyed goodbye."</p><p id="mntl-sc-block_1-0-9">She continued: "i hope many of you could see yourself in her like i did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. i put all my care and love into her and i hope you guys could feel it. Love you katherine hernandez."</p><p>News of Ferreira's departure came months after rumors and <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/inside-euphoria-season-2s-messy-behind-the-scenes-drama-from-sam-levinson-to-barbie-ferreira-storming-off" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> of on-set tension between Ferreira and showrunner Sam Levinson. People speculated that Kat's minimized role was due to this reported drama. </p><p>"I've seen so many different things and a lot of it is untrue and some of it's kind of like mundane little things," Ferreira told <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/euphoria-barbie-ferreira-behind-the-scenes-drama-rumors-response-interview-2022-3">Business Insider</a> in March 2023. </p><p>"But I really think that the fans are really passionate and I do appreciate that because 'Euphoria' has really impacted so many people," she continued. "Sometimes, things take on a life of their own, and they're not rooted in the truth, but it's OK because I know it's just out of passion and out of curiosity and all that good stuff. And I signed up for it. So, I'll take it. "I think there were places she could have gone. I just don't think it would have fit into the show. I don't know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don't want to play that, and I think they didn't want that either."</p><p id="mntl-sc-block_1-0-10">"I just felt like, maybe it's like I overstayed my welcome a little bit?" she added. "I mean, that's the trajectory he's on. I can't imagine Cal's life from solitary confinement. It's tough to work Cal into the storyline when he's behind bars."</p><h2>There will be a time jump</h2><div type="image" title="Jacob Elordi as Nate Jacobs on season two of &quot;Euphoria.&quot;" height="1148" width="1531" msid="108771526" hostid="261"></div><p>Heidi Bivens, a stylist and the costume designer for "Euphoria," spoke about her work on the series in an April 2023 interview with <a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/heidi-bivens-euphoria-fashion-book-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vogue</a>.</p><p>"'Euphoria' is my family, and I'll do everything I can to make the third season of the show successful," she said. "I'm really excited to read the scripts. There is talk of it being about five years in the future, and that they're not in high school anymore. Dorothy's not in Kansas anymore."</p><p>"I mean, it might be a total trip," she continued. "Who can say? But knowing Sam's brain, it's gonna be exciting, and he will challenge all of us, because he won't want to repeat himself. It'll be something new for the audience to discover."</p><p>A time jump would also make sense considering that Zendaya, who's a producer on "Euphoria," previously told <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/zendaya-euphoria-episode-challenges-season-3-emmys-1235195757/">The Hollywood Reporter</a> that she hoped the next season would show Rue's life beyond high school. Plus, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/euphoria-cast-real-ages-versus-characters-2022-2">most of the stars are in their 20s</a>, unlike their teenage characters.  </p><p>"I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look," Zendaya said. "But also with all the characters, in the sense where they're trying to figure out what to do with their lives when high school is over and what kind of people they want to be."</p><p>Elordi also expressed skepticism that season three would pick up exactly where fans last left the high school-aged characters. </p><p>"I'm assuming that we'll have to go forward, otherwise it's going to seem like a weird bit," Elordi said during an appearance on "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXTrzXftRcM" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon</a>" in January. </p><p>"I'm going to have a bad back walking down the hallway, you know?" he joked. </p><p>In March 2024, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/behind-euphoria-season-3-delay-where-show-goes-after-high-school-1235859780/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hollywood Reporter</a> and <a href="https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/euphoria-season-3-delay-rewrites-time-jump-zendaya-script-notes-1235955045/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Variety</a> reported that season three would include a time jump. HBO and Max chairman and CEO Casey Bloys confirmed this during an interview with <a href="https://variety.com/2024/tv/global/max-euphoria-season-3-time-jump-crazy-rich-asians-olympics-casey-bloys-jb-perrette-1236030558/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Variety</a> in June. </p><p>"One of the issues I think that Sam is thinking about is that he doesn't want to have it in high school anymore," Bloys said. "That's where it was set and what made sense then. So when you take it out of that, there's a lot of back and forth about where to set it and how far in the future to set it and all that stuff. But I think he's got a take that he's excited about, and he's busy writing."</p><p>Bloys also said that the core cast of Zendaya, Schafer, Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney (Cassie Howard) will return.  </p><h2>Levinson envisions season 3 as 'film noir'</h2><div type="image" title="Zendaya as Rue Bennett on season two, episode one of &quot;Euphoria.&quot;" height="795" width="1060" msid="108771528" hostid="261"></div><p>In Zendaya's <a href="https://www.elle.com/culture/movies-tv/a44763838/zendaya-interview-september-2023/">Elle</a> cover story in August 2023, Levinson said that season three will "explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world."</p><p>It's important to note, however, that Levinson productions famously change direction on a dime, even during filming. In a press junket interview for season two, Elordi told <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/euphoria-jacob-elordi-nate-jacobs-season-2-scripts-kept-changing-2022-1">Business Insider</a> that the scripts for those episodes were "changing pretty regularly for the longest time." </p><p>The direction for season three is still up in the air. <a href="https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/euphoria-season-3-delay-rewrites-time-jump-zendaya-script-notes-1235955045/">Variety</a> reported in March 2024 that HBO wasn't pleased with Levinson's revised scripts that he submitted in late 2023 and early 2024. Those new scripts reportedly had Rue working as a private detective, an idea that HBO shut down. According to the publication, Zendaya pitched her character as a sober twentysomething surrogate mom. Insiders told Variety that her idea was also turned down because it didn't feel aligned with the show's tone. The publication added that even though Zendaya is an executive producer, "she doesn't have veto power over the scripts."</p><p>According to a report published by <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/euphoria-tragedy-trauma-1235953050/">THR</a> in July 2024, Zendaya also wasn't in favor of Levinson's private detective pitch for Rue. Sources also told the publication that Zendaya and Levinson's once-close working relationship has become strained and tense amid the show's delays.</p><h2>'Euphoria' won't return until 2025 </h2><div type="image" title="rue euphoria season 2" height="987" width="1316" msid="108771530" hostid="261"></div><p>In an <a href="https://open.spotify.com/episode/0Gylb2J2jZnh7hasQKdLTZ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">episode</a> of "The Run-Through with Vogue" podcast released in April 2023, Bivens mentioned a season three timeline. "It starts shooting in June, so prep in May, so very, very soon," she said. </p><p>However, the Hollywood writers' and actors' <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-fran-drescher-the-nanny-sag-aftra-president-2023-7">strikes</a> began in May and July 2023, delaying the show. The writers' strike ended in September and the actors' strike concluded two months later.</p><p>Back in May 2023, Francesca Orsi, HBO's head of drama, told <a href="https://deadline.com/2023/05/francesca-orsi-hbo-qa-succession-finale-the-last-of-us-house-of-the-dragon-white-lotus-euphoria-perry-mason-1235374588/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deadline</a> that the show would "ideally" return in 2025.</p><p>In an interview with <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/hbo-casey-bloys-emmys-house-of-the-dragon-season-2/">TheWrap</a> in January, Bloys said that Levinson was "in the thick" of writing season three. </p><p>"I don't know that he is laying out what the future looks like," Bloys said, adding that he and the showrunner haven't discussions about how long "Euphoria" could last. </p><p>In March 2024, <a href="https://deadline.com/2024/03/euphoria-season-3-delayed-premiere-hbo-1235867238/">Deadline</a> reported that season three was delayed again — this time due to Levinson's scripts not being completed. According to the publication, filming was supposed to start "within the next couple of months." The new season is still expected to premiere in 2025.</p><p>The news came after Sweeney <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@mtv/video/7345622840839851307" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that she was gearing up to work on season three of "Euphoria" next, though she didn't share details on the exact timing. With the indefinite delay, the stars are allowed to take on other jobs. </p><p>"HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season," HBO said in a statement to <a href="https://deadline.com/2024/03/euphoria-season-3-delayed-premiere-hbo-1235867238/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deadline</a>. "In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities."</p><p>Most recently in July, HBO <a href="https://x.com/euphoriaHBO/status/1811820399153340687">confirmed</a> that production on season three will begin in January 2025. </p><p>"I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on 'Euphoria' in January. The show may not return until 2025. </li></ul><p>HBO's popular teen drama series "<a href="https://www.insider.com/euphoria-season-2-details-callbacks-references-2022-2">Euphoria</a>" will be back for another installment.</p><p>The show, which is created, written, and directed by Sam Levinson, centers on a 17-year-old drug addict named Rue Bennet (played by two-time Emmy winner <a href="https://www.insider.com/euphoria-zendaya-is-rue-dead-season-1-finale-cliffhanger-interview-2022-1">Zendaya</a>).</p><p>In early February 2022, amid a bonkers and wildly memed <a href="https://www.insider.com/euphoria-season-2-finale-unanswered-questions-2022-2">second season</a>, HBO announced that "Euphoria" was <a href="https://twitter.com/euphoriaHBO/status/1489644928690909184">renewed</a> for a third season.</p><p>Here's everything we know so far about season three. </p><h2>Barbie Ferreira won't be returning as Kat Hernandez</h2><div type="image" title="maddy kat euphoria season 2 episode 5" height="836" width="1115" msid="99388989" hostid="261"></div><p>Ferreira announced her exit from the show on her Instagram story in August 2022.</p><p>She shared a framed image of Kat, drawn by costar Hunter Schafer, and wrote: "after four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character kat, I'm having to say a very teary eyed goodbye."</p><p id="mntl-sc-block_1-0-9">She continued: "i hope many of you could see yourself in her like i did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. i put all my care and love into her and i hope you guys could feel it. Love you katherine hernandez."</p><p>News of Ferreira's departure came months after rumors and <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/inside-euphoria-season-2s-messy-behind-the-scenes-drama-from-sam-levinson-to-barbie-ferreira-storming-off" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> of on-set tension between Ferreira and showrunner Sam Levinson.</p><p>People speculated that Kat's minimized role was due to this reported drama. </p><p>"I've seen so many different things and a lot of it is untrue and some of it's kind of like mundane little things," Ferreira told <a href="https://www.insider.com/euphoria-barbie-ferreira-behind-the-scenes-drama-rumors-response-interview-2022-3">Insider</a> in March 2023. </p><p>"But I really think that the fans are really passionate and I do appreciate that because 'Euphoria' has really impacted so many people," she continued. "Sometimes, things take on a life of their own, and they're not rooted in the truth, but it's OK because I know it's just out of passion and out of curiosity and all that good stuff. And I signed up for it. So, I'll take it. I'll take the good and the bad."</p><div type="image" title="Barbie Ferreira on season two of &quot;Euphoria.&quot;" height="964" width="1286" msid="99388990" hostid="261"></div><p>Then, during an appearance on the podcast "<a href="https://open.spotify.com/episode/6Cb0LXZv2J0QHOPPZHnW3Z?si=324d6d306f19440c">Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard</a>," Ferreira elaborated on why she left "Euphoria."</p><p>The actor said that it was a "mutual decision" for her to exit because her character's arc ran its course. </p><p id="mntl-sc-block_1-0-8">"I don't think there was a place for her to go," Ferreira said of Kat. "I think there were places she could have gone. I just don't think it would have fit into the show. I don't know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don't want to play that, and I think they didn't want that either."</p><p id="mntl-sc-block_1-0-10">"I just felt like, maybe it's like I overstayed my welcome a little bit?" she added. "So, for me, I actually felt good to be like, 'OK, I get to not worry about this and we both don't get too worried about this,' because it's exhausting." </p><h2>Eric Dane said that his character, Cal Jacobs, will get redemption </h2><div type="image" title="Eric Dane as Cal Jacobs on season two, episode four of &quot;Euphoria.&quot;" height="1533" width="2045" msid="99388992" hostid="261"></div><p>In a 2022 interview with <a href="https://variety.com/2022/tv/actors/euphoria-finale-eric-dane-cal-nate-dad-1235192467/">Variety</a>, Dane said that Cal's story would continue in season three.</p><p>As a refresher, Cal was last seen getting arrested after his son Nate (Jacob Elordi) called the police on him. </p><p>"There's gonna be redemption," Dane said. "I mean, that's the trajectory he's on. I can't imagine Cal's life from solitary confinement. It's tough to work Cal into the storyline when he's behind bars.</p><h2>There have been discussions of a time jump</h2><div type="image" title="Jacob Elordi as Nate Jacobs on season two of &quot;Euphoria.&quot;" height="1148" width="1531" msid="99388993" hostid="261"></div><p>Heidi Bivens, a stylist and costume designer for "Euphoria," spoke about her work on the series in an interview with <a href="https://www.vogue.com/article/heidi-bivens-euphoria-fashion-book-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vogue</a>, released on Tuesday.</p><p>"'Euphoria' is my family, and I'll do everything I can to make the third season of the show successful," she said. "I'm really excited to read the scripts. There is talk of it being approximately five years in the future, and that they're not in high school anymore. Dorothy's not in Kansas anymore."</p><p>"I mean, it might be a total trip," she continued. "Who can say? But knowing Sam's brain, it's gonna be exciting, and he will challenge all of us, because he won't want to repeat himself. It'll be something new for the audience to discover."</p><p>A time jump would also make sense considering that Zendaya, who's a producer on "Euphoria," previously told <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/zendaya-euphoria-episode-challenges-season-3-emmys-1235195757/">The Hollywood Reporter</a> that she hoped the next season would show Rue's life beyond high school.</p><p>Plus, <a href="https://www.insider.com/euphoria-cast-real-ages-versus-characters-2022-2">most of the stars are in their 20s</a>, unlike their teenage characters.  </p><p>"I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look," she said. "But also with all the characters, in the sense where they're trying to figure out what to do with their lives when high school is over and what kind of people they want to be."</p><p>Whether or not season three includes a time jump remains to be seen.</p><p>But it's worth noting that the direction of the show is constantly changing, even during filming.</p><p>In a press junket interview for season two, Elordi told <a href="https://www.insider.com/euphoria-jacob-elordi-nate-jacobs-season-2-scripts-kept-changing-2022-1">Insider</a> that the scripts for those episodes were "changing pretty regularly for the longest time." </p><h2>Levinson envisions season 3 as 'film noir'</h2><div type="image" title="Zendaya as Rue Bennett on season two, episode one of &quot;Euphoria.&quot;" height="795" width="1060" msid="102997187" hostid="261" sizebytes="21372"></div><p>In an <a href="https://www.elle.com/culture/movies-tv/a44763838/zendaya-interview-september-2023/">Elle</a> cover story on Zendaya released in August,  the "Euphoria" showrunner said that season three will "explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world."</p><h2>Filming was supposed to begin in Los Angeles in June, according to the show's costume designer</h2><div type="image" title="rue euphoria season 2" height="987" width="1316" msid="99388994" hostid="261"></div><p>In an interview for an <a href="https://open.spotify.com/episode/0Gylb2J2jZnh7hasQKdLTZ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">episode</a> of the podcast called "The Run-Through with Vogue," released in April, Bivens said: "It starts shooting in June, so prep in May, so very, very soon."</p><p>However, with Hollywood writers and actors being on <a href="https://www.insider.com/who-is-fran-drescher-the-nanny-sag-aftra-president-2023-7">strike,</a> since May and July, respectively, it's unlikely that "Euphoria" will arrive any time soon.  </p><p>Back in May, Francesca Orsi, HBO's head of drama, told <a href="https://deadline.com/2023/05/francesca-orsi-hbo-qa-succession-finale-the-last-of-us-house-of-the-dragon-white-lotus-euphoria-perry-mason-1235374588/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deadline</a> that the show would "ideally" return in 2025.</p>

What we can expect from season 3 of 'Euphoria'

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Ellen Pompeo's final episode of "Grey's Anatomy" as a series regular aired February 23. </li><li>I don't like her character Meredith Grey, but the show shouldn't even try to go on without her. </li></ul><p>I'm no <a href="https://www.insider.com/greys-anatomy-meredith-grey-best-worst-moments-ellen-pompeo-2023-2">fan of Dr. Meredith Grey</a>. In "Grey's Anatomy," she's a cold, <a href="https://www.insider.com/9-nepo-babies-that-raise-the-profiles-of-their-parents-2022-12">entitled nepo baby</a>, who cares about her patients but maintains a steely exterior. Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo, says she helps and mentors women, but at times she's also been the show's "mean girl" who only supports those in her inner circle, which changes on a whim.</p><p>On Pompeo's final episode as a series regular, which aired on February 23, Meredith leaves Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital (named in part for Meredith's sister Lexie Grey) to do Alzheimer's research at the Catherine Fox Foundation. Her final turn in the operating room ends with a patient dying followed by a pitiful, slapdash send-off party complete with sparkling apple cider and the wrong cake.</p><p>The episode, titled "I'll Follow the Sun," shows that as much as things change, they also stay the same. Patients die in surgery. Busy colleagues throw underwhelming office events. And even though Meredith's leaving the hospital that essentially raised her, but she'll be back (Pompeo <a href="https://tvline.com/2023/02/16/ellen-pompeo-greys-anatomy-season-19-return-date-meredith-abc/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">confirmed she'll return for at least the season 19 </a>finale).</p><div type="image" title="meredith grey season 17 greys anatomy beach" height="1080" width="1440" msid="98428845" hostid="261" sizebytes="37132"></div><p>In the meantime, "Grey's Anatomy" is trying to fill its Pompeo-sized hole with yet another new class of interns. Meredith's half-sister Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary, who <a href="https://www.insider.com/every-greys-anatomy-character-ranked-by-episodes-2020-11">joined the cast in season 11</a>) and her sister-in-law Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone, whose character moved to Seattle on season 10) will likely take on more responsibility to maintain the show's "family vibes." But the truth is, no matter how hard it tries, "Grey's Anatomy" will not last much longer without Meredith Grey. </p><p>As anyone with access to the internet probably knows by now, Meredith is the last member of the original intern class from <a href="https://www.insider.com/greys-anatomy-shonda-rhimes-old-men-medical-drama-fail-sex-2022-10">Shonda Rhimes' pilot to leave Grey Sloan</a>. She's literally and figuratively the last bit of magic to disappear from the series. (The original series characters Meredith, Alex, George, Izzie, and Cristina's names are an acronym for "magic").</p><p>Even though I never liked the character of Meredith Grey, Pompeo's exit as a series regular is bigger than any other cast member's exit. She wasn't just any series regular, she was the core of the show's identity. Her departure means that the show now has completely new DNA, so it might as well have a new title, too. </p><p>"Grey's Anatomy" has tried over the years to fill nearly every gap, and sometimes it worked. But most of the time, it didn't. Character departures have caused trauma for viewers and left us with scars, and there's only so much pain we'll endure.</p><h2>There's a limit to the amount of change fans can tolerate</h2><div type="image" title="Ellen Pompeo." height="1800" width="2400" msid="98428847" hostid="261" sizebytes="1319936"></div><p>After Dr. Derek Shepherd's (Patrick Dempsey) death on the show in <a href="https://time.com/3834589/grief-counselor-mourn-fictional-character-death/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2015, Time spoke</a> to the clinical director of the Seleni Institute for Women, Christiane Manzella, about the grief viewers were feeling from his loss.</p><p>"Human beings love stories and making connections, even if it's to fictional people. We create meaning and then experience actual grief when that connection is broken," she said.</p><p>Still, the reason why so many "Grey's" fans have stuck with or come back to the show after so much heartache is the overwhelming sense of comfort the show provides.</p><p>When my favorite characters Dr. Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) and Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) died as a result of a plane crash in season eight, I boycotted the show in a fit of rage, but eventually returned and felt more connected to the show than ever thanks to a storyline <a href="https://www.insider.com/sarah-drew-christmas-movie-lifetime-greys-anatomy-2022-11">involving Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew)</a> and Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams).</p><div type="image" title="Sarah Drew, Jesse Williams, and Ellen Pompeo" height="1500" width="2000" msid="98428849" hostid="261" sizebytes="108436"></div><p>After Drew and Jessica Capshaw (who played Dr. Arizona Robbins) were written off in 2018, I left with them and never expected to return. I eventually did, when <a href="https://www.insider.com/japril-jesse-williams-sarah-drew-fans-earned-greys-anatomy-spinoff-2022-2">Drew returned to help Williams</a> exit. </p><p>As humans, we can only adapt to change so much before we decide we've had enough. My story is probably just one of the thousands of stories that fans around the world have about why they've grown increasingly tired of a show they once rooted for time and time again.</p><p>Narratives have a natural end. <a href="https://www.insider.com/ellen-pompeo-greys-anatomy-impact-medicine-betr-remedies-2021-12">Pompeo herself told me in 2021</a> that she used to often ask people attached to "Grey's," "what story are we going to tell?" and they'd respond, "Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion dollars.'"</p><div type="image" title="Ellen Pompeo" height="1503" width="2004" msid="98428852" hostid="261" sizebytes="95924"></div><p>Network executives might not care about storylines and character development as much as raking in gazillions of dollars, but thousands of fans who have grown up with the show do. I don't like Meredith Grey, but as a character who defined "Grey's" for 19 seasons, she still held a place in my heart, a heart that's stretched to capacity as new characters come and go and come and go. We'll I'm done. Why should I stretch my heart for a show that's lost its own?</p><p>"Grey's Anatomy" is dead. Even though a couple of the original ancillary characters like Dr. Richard Webber (Jim Pickens Jr.) and Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) remain, a new class of interns can't duplicate the magic. It's not my show anymore and it hasn't even <a href="https://deadline.com/2017/08/shonda-rhimes-deal-netflix-leave-abc-studios-1202148014/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">been Rhimes' show since she left in 2017.</a> </p><p>I wish we could all just accept that by pouring some actual champagne out for all characters we loved, and move on.</p><p>"Grey's Anatomy" airs  Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.</p>

Meredith Grey was the worst character on 'Grey's Anatomy,' but the show won't survive without Ellen Pompeo

They couldn't resist each other and eventually started dating.</p><h2>Season 1, episode 9: Meredith learned she was the 'other woman' </h2><p>On the "Grey's Anatomy" season one finale, <a href="https://www.insider.com/greys-anatomy-addison-meets-dereks-kids-ultimate-forgiveness-2021-10">Dr. Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh)</a> arrived at Seattle Grace to let Derek know she was going to fight for their marriage. When they were interrupted, Meredith hastily got dressed and lost her panties, which Addison found later in Derek's suit. She pinned them to the hospital bulletin board.</p><p>Also in season three episode one, Derek told Meredith he was in love with her even though he was with Addison and she was dating Finn, the vet (played by Chris O'Donnell).</p><h2>Season 3, episode 25: It was so over between Meredith and Derek</h2><h2><div type="image" title="Ellen Pompeo on &quot;Grey's Anatomy&quot; season three episode 25." height="1577" width="2103" msid="98131923" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>Meredith and Derek eventually left their respective partners and began dating during season three. But external pressures, like the deaths of <a href="https://www.insider.com/greys-anatomy-cool-things-to-know-about-meredith-grey-2021-9">Meredith's mother Ellis (Kate Burton)</a> and stepmother Susan (Mare Winningham), combined with Derek's desire to be chief of surgery caused a strain. </p><p>At her best friend Dr. Cristina Yang's (Sandra Oh) wedding, Meredith announced that Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington) had left Cristina by saying "It's over, so over." He covered the walls with the CT scans of patients that represented milestones in their relationship and work together.</p><h2>Season 5, episode 24: The Post-it note wedding </h2><p>Meredith and Derek planned to get married at city hall on a random busy day at the hospital. When they realized they couldn't get away to sign papers, they wrote their vows down on Post-it notes and signed them. When Gary found the operating room where Cristina was trying to save Derek, Meredith ran in and told him to shoot her instead. </p><p>Then, while she was operating on Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), who Gary had shot, Meredith had a miscarriage.</p><h2>Seasons 7 and 8: Legal marriage and Zola's adoption</h2><div type="image" title="Meredith Grey with Zola." height="668" width="892" msid="98131928" hostid="261"></div><p>After trying and failing to have a baby throughout season 7, <a href="https://www.insider.com/facts-about-greys-anatomy-2018-8">Meredith and Derek decided to adopt their daughter</a> Zola, an orphan with spina bifida at the hospital. They legally married each other on season 7 episode 20, "White Wedding," so they could begin the adoption process. </p><p>At the beginning of season eight, social services learned that Meredith lost her job for tampering with Derek's Alzheimer's clinical trial and removed Zola from their custody. Dr. Webber eventually took the blame for tampering with the clinical trial because Meredith was trying to help his wife. After an agonizing wait, Zola was returned to Meredith and Derek's custody and the adoption became official. </p><h2>Season 9: Derek Bailey Shepherd's birth and buying Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital </h2><p>After surviving the plane crash on the season 8 finale, Meredith and Derek discovered that Meredith was pregnant. Their son Derek Bailey Shepherd was born at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in the middle of a blackout. </p><p>Meredith, Derek, and the other survivors of the plane crash bought the hospital with the money they got from suing the former owners. Along with majority owner Jackson<a href="https://www.insider.com/greys-anatomy-why-jesse-williams-left-hit-medical-drama-2022-3"> Avery, (Jesse Williams)</a> and the Avery Foundation, the new owners of the hospital decided to rename the hospital after the two plane crash victims who died, Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) and Mark Sloan (Eric Dane).</p><h2>Seasons 10 and 11: Tension rose because of their careers </h2><div type="image" title="Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo on &quot;Grey's Anatomy season 10 episode four." height="1619" width="2160" msid="98131929" hostid="261"></div><p>Meredith and Derek agreed that Derek would focus on childcare while Meredith focused on her career. They were estranged when he left but eventually made up.</p><h2>Season 11, episode 21 &amp; 22: Derek's death and Ellis Shepherd's birth </h2><div type="image" title="Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo on &quot;Grey's Anatomy&quot; season 11." height="1619" width="2160" msid="98131931" hostid="261"></div><p>Derek committed to Meredith, his kids, and staying in Seattle. He was on his way to the airport for a flight to Washington D.C. when he saw a car crash as it happened. He saved all of the victims, only to get hit by a semi-tractor trailer later.</p><p>He was rushed to Dillard Medical Center with life-threatening brain injuries that went undetected because doctors failed to order a CT. He was pronounced brain-dead in surgery and when Meredith got there she took him off life support. </p><p>After his death, Meredith learned she was pregnant. She took her kids and left her friends and family in Seattle to have the baby in a secluded town on the beach. "So that was just a really fun thing that we got to improvise all of us together." </p><p>Going off-script and relying on their instincts made the scene "a lot more heated, and sort of combative, and real in this great like fresh way," she said. </p><p>Improvising on <a href="https://www.insider.com/greys-anatomy-rob-lowe-mcdreamy-in-the-metaverse-2022-3">"Grey's Anatomy" is a rare occurrence</a>, so Walsh was happy to take Allen's lead. "I was like, 'Oh, if Debbie Allen's going to do it then I can do it.
