Reserve Bank has accorded approval to HDFC Mutual Fund to raise its stakes in Federal Bank as well as in Equitas Small Finance Bank to up to 9.5 per cent. The clearance has been granted with reference to the application made by <keyword id="174045" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hdfc-amc" source="Orion">HDFC AMC</keyword> to RBI, according to a regulatory filing on Thursday. "...the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) vide its letter dated September 20, 2023, has accorded its approval to HDFC Asset Management Company Ltd (HDFC AMC) for acquiring aggregate holding of up to 9.5 per cent of the paid-up share capital or voting rights of Federal Bank," the bank said in the filing. In a separate filing, Equitas Small Finance Bank said HDFC AMC got RBI's approval on September 20 to raise 'aggregate holding' of up to 9.5 per cent of the paid-up equity capital or voting rights in the small finance bank. HDFC AMC holds a 4.49 per cent stake in Kerala-based Federal Bank, and a 4.68 per cent stake in Equitas Small Finance Bank as of June 30, 2023. The approval granted by the <keyword id="6358156" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="central-bank" source="Orion">central bank</keyword> is subject to compliance with the relevant provisions of the <keyword id="6354778" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="banking" source="Orion">Banking</keyword> Regulation Act, 1949, RBI's Master Direction and Guidelines on Acquisition and Holding of Shares or Voting Rights in Banking Companies dated January 16, 2023 (as amended from time to time), provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999, regulations issued by Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), and any other guidelines, regulations and statutes as applicable, the filing said. As per the RBI intimation, it said HDFC AMC must ensure that the aggregate holding in the bank does not exceed 9.5 per cent of the paid-up share capital or voting rights of the bank at all times. Further, it said, if the aggregate holding falls below 5 per cent, prior approval of RBI will be required to increase it to 5 per cent or more of the paid-up share capital or voting rights of the bank.

The shares of Cipla ended 0.62% lower on Friday. ITC On Friday, Consumer staples-to-hospitality major ITC reported an 18.23% drop in its consolidated net profit to ₹3,413.44 crore. The drop came despite a 2.18% growth in its revenue from operations to ₹13,147.81 crore during the period under review. Its FMCG segment delivered a decent sales growth of 15.4% (YoY), but wasn’t enough to offset the volume decline of 12% in its cigarette segment. The shares of ITC ended 0.54% lower on Friday. Divi’s Labs Drug firm, Divi’ ’s Laboratories, reported a 45.63% rise in its consolidated net profit to ₹519.59 crore for the quarter ended September 30, mainly on account of robust sales. Consolidated total income stood at ₹1,762.94 crore compared to ₹1,492.60 crore for the same period a year ago. The shares of Divi’s Labs ended 0.40% higher on Friday. Biocon Kiran Mazumdar Shaw-led Biocon’s subsidiary, Biocon Biologics, had received a ₹1,125 crore investment from Goldman Sachs. This capital injection will enable Biocon Biologics to make prudent investments in R&amp;D, high-quality manufacturing, as well as, establish a global commercial footprint, the company said. The shares of Biocon ended 0.17% higher on Friday. Lakshmi Vilas Bank Private sector Lakshmi Vilas Bank (LVB) reported a net loss of ₹397 crore in the second quarter ended September 30 due to a rise in bad loans and provisions. Sequentially, the loss widened against ₹112.28 crore in the June quarter of this fiscal. The shares of Lakshmi Vilas Bank ended 0.64% higher on Friday. Voltas Electronics major Voltas reported 25.74% decline in consolidated net profit to ₹79.66 crore for the quarter ended September 30. The company also decided to restructure its business; it would transfer 100% of the B2B businesses to its wholly-owned subsidiary — Rohini Industrial Electricals Ltd (RIEL). The shares of Voltas ended 1% higher on Friday. Vedanta Vedanta reported a 61.8% decline in consolidated net profit to ₹824 crore for the quarter ended September 30, on the back of one-time tax expense. The decline came despite the stellar 33% growth in its revenue to ₹20,804 crore during the quarter under review. The shares of Vedanta ended 0.21% higher on Friday. Tata Consumer Products Tata Consumer Products reported an 18% rise in consolidated net profit to ₹234.33 crore for the quarter ended September 30, helped by an increase in domestic sales and volumes. Its revenue from operations was up 18.50% to ₹2,781.34 crore during the quarter under review. The shares of Tata Consumer Products ended 0.64% higher on Friday. Tepid listing was already on the cards The investor pessimism for ₹518 crore IPO of Equitas Small Finance Bank was evident ahead of the listing — the company clocked in the lowest subscriptions compared to other IPOs in 2020 so far. The IPO was subscribed 2 times on the last day of bidding, and the non-institutional Investor portion of the IPO wasn't even fully subscribed. Most of the brokerage reports highlighted various risk factors According to ICICI Direct, for Equitas Small Finance Bank, new products and entry in new geography pose a risk of non-performing assets. Currently, the company has a 55% concentration of loan portfolio in Tamil Nadu and nearly 13% in Maharashtra. Angel Broking also said in its IPO note that the fresh formation of bad loans from moratorium books would keep provisions high and return ratios compressed, and could pose a concern for Equitas SFB. "We believe investors should wait for price discovery before making any investment decision," they added. These are the stocks to watch out for during the trading session on October 21: RIL Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Jio and the US-based Qualcomm joined hands to fast-track the deployment of 5G mobile internet in India. The company made the announcement during the virtual 5G summit yesterday. The shares of RIL shed nearly a percent. Hindustan Zinc Vedanta group company, Hindustan Zinc, announced a dividend of ₹21.3 per share— its highest interim dividend in 12 years. The company also reported a 6.7% drop in its net profit to ₹1940 for the quarter ended September 30. The shares of Hindustan Zinc ended 2% higher on Tuesday. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) The state-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) raised ₹2,000 crore on a private placement basis to meet business expenses, the company said in a regulatory filing. The shares of IOC ended 2.15% lower on Tuesday. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) also raised ₹1,140 crore through a 3-year debenture issue on a private placement basis at an interest rate of 4.64% per annum payable annually. The shares of ONGC ended 3% lower on Tuesday. Cipla The pharma major Cipla launched generic Nintedanib used for the treatment of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) under the brand name ‘Nintib’ in India. IPF is a rare lung disease that impacts ten in one lakh people, but it is a chronic progressive form of lung disease with an average survival rate of three to five years if left untreated. The shares of Cipla ended flat on Tuesday. Motherson Sumi Motherson Sumi Systems (MSSL), through its Mexican subsidiary, has acquired the activities of Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems (EWIS) performed at Bombardier Transportation’s manufacturing site in Huehuetoca, Mexico. The deal is valued around $10 million. The shares of Motherson Sumi ended 2% higher on Tuesday. Prabhat Dairy The markets regulator SEBI has directed Prabhat Dairy to cooperate with the forensic auditor and deposit over ₹1,292 crore in a nationalised bank within seven days until the conclusion of the audit. The auditor was appointed to ascertain manipulation of books of accounts of the firm, misrepresentation of financials or business operations by the company, wrongful diversion of funds by promoters. The shares of Prabhat Dairy ended 5% higher on Tuesday. Bajaj Auto The state-owned Life Insurance Corporation increased its stake in Bajaj Auto from 4.76% in the June quarter to 6.4% in the September quarter. The shares of Bajaj Auto ended 1% higher on Tuesday. L&amp;T Infotech (LTI) The IT major L&amp;T Infotech (LTI) reported a 26.7% increase in consolidated net profit to ₹456.8 crore for the quarter ended September 30. The company’s overall revenue grew 16.6% to ₹2,998.4 crore in the quarter under review. The shares of LTI ended 2% lower on Tuesday. Mastek The software major Mastek’s UK subsidiary has sold its entire stake in Majesco’s US subsidiary for a total value of $32.3 million. The company aims to use the funds for helping the UK arm drive its growth strategy and reduce borrowings. The shares of Mastek ended 1% higher on Tuesday. Equitas Small Finance Bank The ₹518 crore IPO of Equitas Small Finance Bank has so far seen a subdued response from the investors. On day one of the bidding, the issue was subscribed only 0.39 times, and the qualified institutional buyer subscription portion stood at zero. The lender has fixed a price band of ₹1490-1500 per share. The IPO opens on November 9 and closes on November 11. The company plans to raise up to ₹1,250 crore through issuance of fresh equity shares up to 34.8 lakh. The offer period for anchor investors is one day prior to the bid opening date, i.e. November 6. The company said the proceeds from the issue would be utilised for funding incremental working capital requirements, capital expenditure requirements and general corporate purposes. And, it is worthy to note while the company will not receive any money from the offer for sale portion. The minimum bid for the investors is set at 10 equity shares and in multiples of 10 shares thereafter. The Chinese promoter China’s Fosun Pharma promotes Gland Pharma, and this will be the first domestic IPO of an Indian company with a Chinese parent.
