Pi is an enterprise class datacenter and cloud service provider, which is based in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. 
 
Epsilon will be actively involved in assisting with the build and growth of Pi. 
 
Kalyan Muppaneni, Founder &amp; CEO of Pi, said "Epsilon's technology investment experience across the globe is of significant strategic value that would pave the way for global partnerships in ensuring that Pi brings state-of-the-art cloud infrastructure capability to India. The funds raised would add to help us roll out our first few datacenters across India." 
 
The round was led by Epsilon's General Partner based on the ground in India, Mahesh Vaidya, who will be joining the company's board. 
 
Vaidya said, "The Datacenter and Cloud Infrastructure space in India is poised for robust growth over the next decade as evidenced by the trends observed in mature economies such as the US and Europe".

Pi Datacenters get investment of Rs 154 crore from Epsilon Venture Partners in fresh funding

The firm has raised $32.9 million from investors including Avalon Ventures and Cheetah Mobile and primarily works with brands that manage their marketing and analytics in-house. Its site lists clients including Wayfair and Rue La La.There are two sides to Nanigans' business: An ad-buying arm that buys social <keyword id="6354777" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Media">media</keyword> ads for brands and an ad retargeting side that competes with companies like Criteo and AdRoll. According to a former sales employee, more than 90% of Nanigans' revenue comes from its work with Facebook.Rumors have circled for at least two years that Nanigans is up for sale. However, an investor and two ad-tech execs - one with direct knowledge of the talks - told Business Insider that Nanigans is trying to sell the social arm of its business.Business Insider also spoke with two former Nanigans employees, one who worked in sales and the other who worked in marketing in the past two years."The social part is where they have existing customers and where the loyalty was," said the former marketing employee. "They've had a hard time keeping longer-tenured employees there - it's definitely accelerated over the past year."Business Insider could not confirm if Nanigans has hired a banker or how far along the sale process is. Nanigans and Facebook declined to comment for this story.According to data <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/nanigans/insights/">from LinkedIn,</a> Nanigans' staff has shrunk 30% to 102 employees over the past two years. The data also shows that the number of sales roles has decreased 33% while the number of business development jobs has increased 8% in the past year. Among the higher-ups who have left recently are long-time head of client services Suzanne Wong and marketing VP Ryan Kelly. Matt Prohaska, CEO and principal of Prohaska Consulting, said he didn't know if Nanigans was for sale but that likely buyers would be social publishers, and ad-tech companies that help advertisers and publishers buy and sell programmatic ads.The investor speculated that the company would use the sale proceeds to build a business that helps marketers organize their data similar to LiveRamp.<h2>Nanigans rode the Facebook wave until it dried up</h2>Nanigans was one of the earliest third-party companies to pipe ads into the social platform. Nanigans was <a href="https://marketingland.com/facebook-ad-exchange-fbx-opens-for-business-with-16-partners-21490">one of 16 firms</a> that Facebook picked in 2012 to be part of its FBX ad network that <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/facebook-planning-to-shut-down-its-ad-exchange-1464199840">shut down in 2016.</a> Nanigans and other Facebook marketing partners build custom products for advertisers on top of Facebook's API. For example, an advertiser spending $1 million on a Facebook campaign would pay Nanigans an additional $30,000 to $50,000.But with mounting data concerns, privacy scandals like Cambridge Analytica, and growing regulatory scrutiny, Facebook has pivoted to privacy and cut back on the amount of access ad-tech companies have to its platform.Last year, it <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-is-shutting-down-the-use-of-third-party-data-for-ad-targeting-2018-3">shut down a program</a> called Partner Categories that allowed firms like Acxiom and Epsilon to create targeting audiences for big brands. More recently, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/startup-hyp3r-saving-instagram-users-stories-tracking-locations-2019-8">Business Insider reported</a> that marketing firm Hyp3r was kicked off of Facebook's platform for scraping and storing data from Facebook-owned Instagram. Hyp3r contended that its practices did not violate Facebook's rules because it used public data.<h2>Facebook built its own free software that competed with Nanigans</h2>In the past couple years, Facebook also beefed up its own free, ad-buying software called Ads Manager, which put it in competition with Nanigans and other ad-tech companies like SocialCode, Kenshoo, and Adaptly that manage Facebook ad spend, sources said."Everyone wanted to get in bed with Facebook because Facebook was growing," said the same former Nanigans sales employee. "The market got very crowded, and I don't think anyone realized how fast Facebook was going to develop their own free platform ... everyone started fighting for scraps."In particular, it became difficult for Nanigans to keep smaller advertisers on board, and both former Nanigans execs noticed an uptick in churn with clients."There was a realization that a social-only [business] - especially Facebook - wasn't going to be realistic," said the former marketing employee.Nanigans has tried to diversify its business <a href="https://www.nanigans.com/2014/11/17/nanigans-extends-its-multichannel-advertising-automation-software-to-mobile-exchanges-announces-partnership-with-mopub/">to platforms</a> like Twitter and retargeting software, although Twitter is better situated for branding campaigns than the performance campaigns that Facebook advertisers are accustomed to. <h2>Nanigans' competitors are also scrambling</h2>Nanigans' competitors have also scrambled to diversify their revenue.In December, Accenture Interactive acquired Nanigans' competitor Adaptly, which helps brands buy ads across platforms like Facebook, Amazon, and Google. Adaptly is handling programmatic buying for <a href="https://www.beet.tv/2019/01/nikki-mendonca-3.html">some of Accenture's clients</a> like Sprint and Mazda.SocialCode, meanwhile, has made inroads with Amazon. SocialCode is owned by The Graham Holdings Company, which also owns digital publisher Slate and educational service Kaplan. 'S4 is too small, too narrow, and too yesterday': Publicis' Rishad Tobaccowala thinks ad holding giants will prevail despite competition from consultancies and upstarts

Epsilon Asset Management plans to scrape decades of regulatory documents to analyze positions of other active managers and turn these into investment strategies for institutional clients, cofounder Faryan Amir-Ghassemi told Business Insider. "We want to use very large data sets to understand the behaviors of what active managers do and how that correlates to future performance," he said. "We analyze about $3 trillion in assets across 10,000 securities and a few thousand managers, and then derive from that which securities to invest in."Epsilon's flagship "activist strategy" will be advised by a consortium of experts, the company says, including Richard Elden of Grosvenor Capital and Frank Meyer, cofounder of Citadel Investments. William Cline, CEO of Clovis Capital Management, provided an undisclosed amount of seed funding for the firm. Amir-Ghassemi, who is 32, and his partners - Adam Lavin and Michael Perlow - first met while working for Novus Capital, a corporate advisory firm. The trio were using data and analysis to help companies develop investment strategies. Clients wanted the team to handle their investments outright, says Amir-Ghassemi, but they couldn't because of conflict-of-interest rules.So the team left their jobs earlier this year to found Epsilon. With their new venture, they hope to bridge the divide between active and passive investment strategies.Active investors have come under fire in recent years for their high fees, but passive investors often struggle to beat benchmark indices, like the S&amp;P 500. Amir-Ghassemi says his firm can deliver the returns of a hand-picked portfolio, with the lower fees and transparency of passive investing. He declined to specify the fees and the exact amount of capital raised."We think institutional investors will see the need for this because they're having a hard time with hedge funds' high fees, low transparency, and poor performance," he said. "We have lower fees and better optics. GOOGLE TO TRACK IN-STORE PURCHASES: Google wants to know whether its search ads are driving in-store sales, so it's testing a campaign that will track how Internet users spend their money at bricks-and-mortar retailers. To do this, Google is partnering with data brokers, such as Acxiom and DataLogix, which will help the Internet giant match in-store customers with Internet users who are clicking on its search ads (thanks to the data brokers' access to loyalty program offline purchase-tracking). Facebook has been partnering with data brokers since 2012 to conduct the same type of tracking, but Google's campaign will be on a much larger scale. Retailers love using search ads because it allows them to target consumers who are already looking for something in particular. Google wants to show that those search ads are driving people to make purchases in stores, not just online. ETSY JUMPS INTO WHOLESALE BUSINESS: Etsy, an online marketplace for handmade and vintage goods, is getting into the wholesale business. Sellers can now take wholesale orders from merchants via Etsy, so that their products can be sold in stores. Etsy will take its standard 3.5% commission on all transactions. The online marketplace has become a popular sales channel for artists and craftsmen to sell directly to consumers, but now with the help of Etsy, they have the potential to see their products sold in thousands of retail stores.
