The <keyword id="116095" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indian-space-research-organisation" source="Orion">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword> (ISRO) is gearing up for an "extremely challenging" experiment of controlled re-entry of a decommissioned orbiting satellite on Tuesday. The low <keyword id="6359982" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="earth" source="Orion">Earth</keyword> satellite, Megha-Tropiques-1 (MT1), was launched on October 12, 2011, as a joint satellite venture of ISRO and the French space agency, CNES for tropical weather and climate studies. <br /><br />An uninhabited area in the Pacific Ocean between 5°S to 14°S latitude and 119°W to 100°W longitude was identified as the targeted re-entry zone for MT1, weighing about 1000 kg. <br /><br />About 125 kg on-board fuel remained unutilised at its end-of-mission that could pose risks for accidental break-up, an ISRO statement noted. <br /><br />This left-over fuel was estimated to be sufficient to achieve a fully controlled atmospheric re-entry to impact the uninhabited location in the Pacific Ocean. <br /><br />Controlled re-entries involve deorbiting to very low altitudes to ensure impact occurs within a targeted safe zone. <br /><br />Usually, large satellites/rocket bodies, which are likely to survive aero-thermal fragmentation upon re-entry, are made to undergo controlled re-entry to limit ground casualty risk. <br /><br />However, all such satellites are specifically designed to undergo controlled re-entry at <keyword id="336838" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="eol" source="Orion">EOL</keyword>. <br /><br />"MT1 was not designed for EOL operations through controlled re-entry which made the entire exercise extremely challenging", ISRO said. <br /><br />Furthermore, the on-board constraints of the aged satellite, where several systems had lost redundancy and showed degraded performance, and maintaining subsystems under harsher environmental conditions at much lower than originally designed orbital altitude added to the operational complexities. <br /><br />Innovative workarounds were implemented by the operations team based on the study, deliberations, and exchanges among the mission, operations, flight dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, controls, navigation, thermal, and other sub-system design teams across the ISRO centres, who worked in synergy to surmount these challenges. <br /><br />Since August 2022, 18 orbit manoeuvres have been performed to progressively lower the orbit.<br /><br />In between the de-orbiting, aero-braking studies at different solar panel orientations were also carried out to gain better insights into the physical process of atmospheric drag affecting the orbital decay of the satellite. <br /><br />The final de-boost strategy has been designed after taking into consideration several constraints, including visibility of the re-entry trace over ground stations, ground impact within the targeted zone, and allowable operating conditions of subsystems, especially the maximum deliverable thrust and the maximum firing duration of the thrusters. <br /><br />The final two de-boost burns followed by the ground impact are expected to take place between 16:30 IST to 19:30 IST on March seven, ISRO said. <br /><br />Aero-thermal simulations show that no large fragments of the satellites are likely to survive the aerothermal heating during the re-entry. <br /><br />Although the mission life of the satellite originally was three years, it continued to provide valuable data services for more than a decade supporting regional and global climate models till 2021, Bengaluru-headquartered national space agency said. <br /><br />UN/IADC (Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee) space debris mitigation guidelines recommend deorbiting a <keyword id="91911" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="leo" source="Orion">LEO</keyword> (Low Earth Orbit) object at its end-of-life (EOL), preferably through controlled re-entry to a safe impact zone, or by bringing it to an orbit where the orbital lifetime is less than 25 years, according ISRO. <br /><br />It is also recommended to carry out "passivation" of on-board energy sources to minimise the risk of any post-mission accidental break-up. <br /><br />The orbital lifetime of MT1 would have been more than 100 years in its 20 deg inclined operational orbit of 867 km altitude, according to ISRO. <br /><br />"As a responsible space agency committed to safe and sustainable operations in outer space, ISRO proactively takes efforts for better compliance with the UN/IADC space debris mitigation guidelines on post-mission disposal of LEO objects", the statement said. <br /><br />The re-entry experiment of MT1 has been undertaken as a part of the ongoing efforts as this satellite with sufficient left-over fuel presented a unique opportunity to test the relevant methodologies and understand the associated operational nuances of post mission disposal by direct re-entry into the ISRO gears up for 'extremely challenging' experiment of controlled reentry of aged satellite

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Reggie Ray has been charged with disorderly conduct for his involvement in the August 5 brawl. </li><li>Ray's lawyer says his client was "involuntarily roped into the disorderly conduct."</li></ul><p>A man who police said was responsible for grabbing a white folding chair and swinging it at people during <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.insider.com/video-montgomery-alabama-riverfront-brawl-chair-2023-8">a riverside skirmish in Montgomery, Alabama,</a> is no longer in jail.<br /><br />Local station WSFA reported that Reggie Ray, who turned himself in on Friday, was seen <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.waff.com/video/2023/08/12/reggie-ray-posts-bail-after-being-charged-with-disorderly-conduct/">leaving the Montgomery Municipal Jail</a>. The outlet reported Ray had posted bail.</p><p>Lee Merritt, a civil rights attorney representing <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Cvxwz_cOaAu/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==">multiple people from the brawl, </a>wrote on Instagram that his client was released from municipal jail on Saturday morning.</p><p>"Mr. Reggie Ray is out," Merritt wrote. "He is in good spirits. He got a speeding ticket on the way home but he was relieved to discover the community showed up for him and others in such strong way."</p> <p>Ray, 42, was charged with disorderly conduct, the Montgomery Police Department said in a statement sent to Insider.</p><p>In a <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/3-charged-assault-alabama-riverfront-melee-bias-charges/story?id=102098382">statement to ABC News,</a> Merritt said Ray had been "involuntarily roped into the disorderly conduct initiated by a violent white mob" but will continue participating in the ongoing investigation.</p><p>Merritt did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider outside of regular business hours.</p><p>Ray's release comes after a GoFundMe set up by Merritt <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/community-response-recovery-fund?utm_campaign=p_lico+share-sheet-first-launch&amp;utm_medium=copy_link&amp;utm_source=customer">raised over $220,000 </a>as of Saturday evening. Insider could not verify if the funds raised were used for his bail.</p><p>Four other people have also been charged in connection to the brawl. Richard Roberts, 48, was charged with two counts of third-degree assault. Mary Todd, 21, Allen Todd, 23, and Zachery Shipman, 25, were charged with one count of third-degree assault, according to Darryl J. Albert, the chief of the MPD.</p><p>All four people have turned themselves in as of Thursday, MPD said in the statement.</p><p>According to police, the August 5 incident — now dubbed the Montgomery, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cheapest-most-affordable-cities-places-to-live-in-us-2023-8">Alabama,</a> riverfront brawl online and even by city officials — ignited after a group of white people refused to move their small boat from a docking spot designated for a riverboat known as the Harriott II. When the boat's co-captain, 43-year-old Dameion Pickett, tried to reason with the group, one of the white boaters rushed and swung at Pickett, police said.</p><p><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.facebook.com/500514917/videos/1558473434687318/">Videos posted online showed</a> more people attacking Pickett as he defended himself, and bystanders came to the defense of Pickett as a result. It eventually became a massive melee with dozens of people involved, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.insider.com/video-montgomery-alabama-riverfront-brawl-chair-2023-8">Insider reported.</a></p><p>The chair, and the man behind it, became an internet favorite after videos surfaced of him whacking a few people with it before he was detained.</p><p>Following the brawl, people posed with the chair near the dock. Some even called for it to become a permanent feature of Black history.</p><p>On <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/black-tiktok-creator-move-atlanta-montana-yellowstone-national-park-2023-8">TikTok</a>, users began posting videos humorously training for their next fight (or their next tennis match) <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.insider.com/guides/home/best-places-buy-outdoor-patio-furniture-online">using folding chairs.</a></p>  <p>Following Ray's arrest, people on Twitter began asking to "Free Reggie" and began denying that they had ever seen a man <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.insider.com/guides/travel/best-folding-chair">using a folding chair</a> in the first place.</p><p>As for whether or not any hate-crime charges or charges for inciting a riot would be brought, MPD said Tuesday that they did not believe the events "fit the criteria" for such charges based on current evidence.</p><p>However, Jim Kittrell, Captain of the Harriott II, told the Daily Beast that he did not believe there was "any other reason" than racism that would motivate the group of men to attack his shipmate.</p><p>"The white guys that attacked my deckhand — and he was a senior deckhand first mate — I can't think of any other reason they attacked him other than it being racially motivated," Kittrell <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/montgomery-brawl-riverboat-captain-says-attack-was-racially-motivated?ref=home">told the Daily Beast</a>. "All he did was move their boat up three feet. It makes no sense to have six people try to beat the snot out of you just because you moved their boat up a few feet. In my opinion, the attack on Damien was racially motivated."</p>

If you tweet an emoji to it, it'll tweet back a picture that looks like that emoji. <a href="http://qz.com/760395/send-this-bot-an-emoji-and-it-sends-back-a-related-image-from-the-new-york-public-library-archives/">She told Quartz</a> that she created it to highlight the library's collection.</p><p>It works remarkably well, and the matches are clever. Send it a film camera emoji, and it'll send back an illustration with a film camera in the corner. Send it a&#xa0;screaming face, and it'll send back a singer belting it out.</p><p><div></div></p><p><div></div></p><p>It's possible to stump it. The bot doesn't know what to do with flag emojis - it just shrugs and asks you to search around in its collections&#xa0;yourself.</p><p><div></div></p><p>All of the image-emoji matches are based on <a href="https://github.com/lolibrarian/NYPL-Emoji-Bot/blob/master/data/images.json">a giant database</a> created by Lampasone and other NYPL employees.&#xa0;The Twitter bot's code is <a href="https://github.com/lolibrarian/NYPL-Emoji-Bot">on Github</a>, where people can suggest archive images for emojis that don't yet have a match.</p><p>There's only one image per&#xa0;emoji, unfortunately, so you'll get the&#xa0;same generated image every time for a specific&#xa0;emoji.</p><p>Still, it's fun to use. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Joe Skipper/Reuters</span></p><p class="caption">Tesla CEO Elon Musk.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul><li><strong>In a <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/16/elon-musk-e-mail-to-tesla-employees-says-radical-improvements-needed.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">leaked email obtained by CNBC</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/category/tesla">Tesla</a> CEO Elon Musk said that Model 3 production has moved about 500 units per day.</strong></li><li><strong>The troubled <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/tsla-stock">Tesla</a> Model 3's run rate is now at roughly 3,500 per week.</strong></li><li><strong>Some aspects of the system are pushing toward 700-vehicle capacity per day.</strong></li><li><strong>The carmaker has said that it will achieve 5,000 per week by the end of June.</strong></li></ul><p>Tesla CEO Elon Musk is excited about the manufacturing of the all-electric carmaker's troubled Model 3 - a reversal of his nearly yearlong journey through "production hell."</p><p>But <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/16/elon-musk-e-mail-to-tesla-employees-says-radical-improvements-needed.html?__source=twitter%7Ctech">according to an internal email obtained by CNBC</a>, he isn't overconfident, insisting that there's plenty of work left to do if the company is going to meet its own target of 5,000 in weekly Model 3 output by the end of June.</p><p>"All parts of the Model 3 production system are now above 500 and some are almost at 700 cars already," Musk said in the email. He also said that "radical improvements are still needed in paint shop output, GA3, bringing up the new GA4, End of Line and Module Zone 4 at Giga" and that "[w]e also need to achieve sustained, 700+ per week on the body line."</p><p>Tesla declined a request to comment. </p><p>But just because the production capacity at the Fremont factory might be increasing, doesn't necessarily mean that Tesla will be able to reliably crank out those number of cars. </p><p>For example, "GA3" and "GA4" are "general assembly" lines, where the various components of the Model 3 are put together - at this juncture on a 24/7 schedule. Tesla has had issues with automating Model 3 assembly and has now moved to running two parallel lines, plus a new fourth line that's in the process of being installed and made operational.</p><p>The company has been doing this on the fly, a departure from the usual practice in the auto industry, which is to build a line and test it before moving a significant number of cars through. In the case of early Model 3 production, this led to problems as Tesla realized it has been overly ambitious with its automation goals.</p><p>"Module 4 at Giga" is the fourth area where the Model 3's battery packs are assembled at its massive battery factory. Obviously, Tesla can't complete the vehicles in Fremont without the batteries coming in from Nevada, where the Gigafactory is located. Since last year, this has been a major bottleneck for the company, contributed to lower-than-predicted Model 3 output.</p><p>If the system is pumping out 500 vehicle per day - about 3,500 per week - then Tesla is still well short of its own 5,000-per-week goal, and that could be the basis for Musk's email.</p><p>However, the carmaker continues to run flat-out to achieve this objective. Elon Musk says Model 3 production still needs 'radical improvements' to meet aggressive targets

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Cisco Live/Business Insider</span></p><p class="caption">Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins</p></div><p></p></div></div>Cisco on Friday officially pulled the plug on a computer storage product called Invicta, acquired when it bought a startup called Whiptail in 2013 for $450 million.</p><p>And we can imagine the folks at Cisco's partner-turned-arch-rival EMC, getting a chuckle out of the situtation.</p><h2>The TL:DR version:</h2><p>By shuttering Whiptail the day before new CEO Chuck Robbins officially takes ofice, Robbins has admited Cisco's attempt to compete head-on with one-time partner EMC didn't work. The question is, will he offer a bigger olive branch to repair that partnership?</p><h2>Meaty details: Yes, Cisco is laying off the Whiptail staff</h2><p>The official shuttering of Invicta confirmed an earlier report by Chris Mellor at <a href="http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/07/23/cisco_ditches_invicta_flash_arrays/">T<span>he Register</span></a> that Cisco had thrown in the towel and laid off nearly all of the Whiptail staff. We aren't sure how many people were affected. (We found over 50 people on LinkedIn who had worked at Whiptail, but many of them had already moved on.)</p><p>Cisco confirmed a layoff did take place. A spokesperson told us:</p><h2 class="p1">Cisco's acquistion of Whiptail was a slap in the face at EMC</h2><p class="p1"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Paul Perez/LinkedIn</span></p><p class="caption">Dell CTO Paul Perez</p></div><p></p></div></div>Whiptail made a flash storage product that competed head-to-head with EMC's line of flash storage. Flash storage is when data center computer servers use the same super-fast storage used by smartphones, tablets and thumb drives.</p><p class="p1">Cisco and EMC were once close partners, and had a very successful joint business together where they sold  Cisco's UCS computer servers blended with EMC's storage and software from EMC's subsidiary VMware.</p><p class="p1">But then the two partners began to compete. Things got especially tense after <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/inside-the-1-billion-vmware-nicira-buy-2014-10">VMware</a> bought a startup that had invented a hot new network technology that promised to eat Cisco's lunch Nicira. Cisco was also trying to buy Niciria when VMware outbid it, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/inside-the-1-billion-vmware-nicira-buy-2014-10">sources close to the companies told Business Insider</a>.</p><p class="p1">The companies' relationship devolved until the two divorced, with EMC buying out most of Cisco's stake in VCE. Cisco, in turn bought Whiptail to try to take on EMC on EMC's own turf.</p><p class="p1">At the time Cisco bought Whiptail, flash <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Enterprise">enterprise</keyword> storage startups were quickly being <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/flash-startups-nabbed-over-1-billion-this-week-2013-9">gobbled up for huge sums of money by other big players.</a> So Cisco quickly grabbed Whiptail. </p><h2 class="p1">The Whiptail technology had a lot of problems</h2><p>The Invicta product had been plagued by issues almost from the get-go. In September, 2014, Cisco haulted shipments of Invicta because of "quality" issues, according to a <a href="http://www.crn.com/news/storage/300073883/cisco-halts-shipments-of-ucs-invicta-storage-appliance-due-to-scalability-issues.htm">CRN report.</a> </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="http://www.linkedin.com/pub/daniel-crain/13/91/567/">LinkedIn/Daniel Crain</a></span></p><p class="caption">Dan Crain, CEO Whiptail Technologies</p></div><p></p></div></div>Also in September, the CEO leading Whiptail when Cisco bought it, <span class="fn"><span class="full-name">Daniel Crain, </span></span>left Cisco.</p><p>By the spring of 2015, <span>Whiptail's co-founder, <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/pub/james-candelaria/4/52/6b">James Candelaria</a>, who had became director of engineering at Cisco, left the company to launch his own consulting company. </span></p><p><span>A month later, the guy running the UCS line and responsible for the Whiptail unit, <a href="http://www.networkworld.com/article/2898836/servers/cisco-replaces-ucs-server-head-software-leaders-also-depart.html">Paul Perez</a><span>, left to join Dell as CTO.</span></span></p><p><span><span>Fast forward to Friday, when Cisco formally killed the Invicta product, <a href="http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/ucs-c-series-rack-servers/eos-eol-notice-c51-735514.html">announcing to customers </a>it would no longer sell it. </span></span></p><p><span><span>Cisco now says it will work with its storage partners to provide flash storage with its UCS computer servers. Such partners include EMC and NetApp.</span></span></p><p>This could be an olive branch from brand-new CEO Robbins to EMC. We'll see if Robbins follows it up with other moves designed to repair the relationship.</p><p>This is also the second business that Cisco shuttered the week before Robbins officially took over. Last week Cisco  divested its huge televsion video control business, <span>bought for $6.9 billion in 2005, selling it for $600 million. </span></p><p>Robbins clearly wants to quickly cut Cisco's problems and get the company focused on its next big opportunity, the Internet of Things.
