The Centre's three-pronged initiative of <keyword id="6569577" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Skill-India">Skill India</keyword>, Make in India and Digital India will transform the employment scene of the country, says a Rajasthan Minister. The <keyword id="710235" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="labour-reforms">labour reforms</keyword> brought out by the state government have been widely appreciated and were proving to be a game changer, Minister of State for Skill, Employment and <keyword id="107737" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Entrepreneurship">Entrepreneurship</keyword> Surender Pal Singh TT today said at the 9th edition of CII's Skills and HR Conclave here. 

	The central government was also taking steps to implement a similar policy in labour reforms, he further said.
 

	During the 'Resurgent Rajasthan' summit, 11 MoUs were signed with leading companies to improve the skill ecosystem in the state thereby enhancing employment opportunities for the unemployed youth, he added.
 Earlier, Rajasthan Minister for Social Justice &amp; Empowerment &amp; Minority Affairs <keyword id="172891" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arun-Chaturvedi">Arun Chaturvedi</keyword> said there was a close link between education, a degree and finally a job. 

	He recalled that during his student days, they had agitated for a degree being linked to employment.
 

	Chaturvedi said it was unfortunate even today a large number of educated young men and women are unemployable because of not having a particular set of skills.
 

	He urged organisations like the CII to join hands with the government to set up skill development centres for training the large young workforce of the state and the country.
 

	Gaurav Goyal, Commissioner of Skills, Employment &amp; Entrepreneurship &amp; MD, Rajasthan Skills &amp; Livelihood Development Corporation (RSLDC), said the quality of school education in rural areas needed to be considerably improved since even class 5th students lacked the basic skills of language and arithmetic.
 

	Four out of 5 engineers in India were unemployable, he said adding the apprenticeship reforms were required.
 

	Group Chief HR Officer of Tractors &amp; Farm Equipment Muthukumar Thanu said the time has come when the women will have to work 24x7.
 

	They have already empowered themselves through education and requisite skills and need to perform their jobs which will also bring about a social change.
 

	Joint Managing Director &amp; Co-Founder of NIIT Limited, P Rajendran said that entrepreneurship is in the DNA of Rajasthani industrialists and businessmen.
 With the call made for <keyword id="3003094" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startup-India">Startup India</keyword>, new opportunities will come in the State for employment, he added.

India is unique in the diversity of its regions and people. Often local problems need local solutions. It is here that social entrepreneurship or social entrepreneurs or SOCENTS come into the picture and build bridges to social improvement. 
 
Combine this with the Indian spirit of Jugaad and there have been innumerable instances of simple inventions and adaptations that have changed life for the better not just economically, but on the comfort level also. 
 
A growing change in the perception of life goals has led to a large number of educated, highly trained professionals turning into SOCENTS. This is desirable as they bring their professional and business acumen and can create and put into place working, sustainable and profitable solutions to local problems. 
 Harish Hande, co-founder of <keyword id="1535069" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Selco-Solar">Selco Solar</keyword>, has over the past 18 years through his company installed over 1.35-lakh solar systems. The corporate sector has also contributed and the Tata group has been in the forefront through their various trusts and the Tata School of Social Sciences in fostering social entrepreneurship. The Shell Foundation-funded Husk Power Systems in its enterprise to obtain power from rice husk. 
 
The government has now made it mandatory through the CSR Bill (corporate social responsibility in the new Companies Act) for big corporations to set aside 2% of their profits for social programmes that include investments in social business ventures. This will open up funding of more than a billion dollars for Socents and further growth of social entrepreneurship in India. 
 
India should take into account depleting natural resources and focus on environment-friendly and sustaining social innovations to balance growth with environment concerns. The China example of economic growth at the cost of rising pollution should serve as a deterrent. Pollution has become one of the major causes of social unrest in China. 
 
The changes in economic models from capitalism to a more socially responsible capitalism have thrown the focus on social entrepreneurship. 
 
Social entrepreneurship is here to stay and could well be the major economic growth factor for India and to achieve the ‘Indian dream - sarvajana sukhonobhava’, ie, let everyone be happy.

The university, which hopes to become the ‘Stanford of the East,’ is backed by over 40 Indian entrepreneurs and CEOs including Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani, Neeraj Aggarwal, Chairman of Asia Pacific, Boston Consulting Group, Hellion Ventures’ co-founder Ashish Gupta, chairman of Genpact and Clix Capital Pramod Bhasin, Hitesh Oberoi, Infoedge and Naukri.com Managing Director, among others. Together, they are raising <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/news/entrepreneurs-group-to-raise-2-000-crore-for-stem-university-1550171308952.html">₹20 billion</a> to build Plaksha – the name given to the university – and have already raised ₹4,000 million. The university will be launched in 2021. The idea for the university started three years ago, when a few IIT alums – today top business leaders – got together and thought of way to encourage India’s booming tech-driven ecosystem, say its founders. “We felt the need to reimagine technology education the way it’s being delivered today and create something that’s truly world-class and cutting edge, and reimagine teaching curriculum research,” Vineet Gupta, Managing Director, Jamboree Education Pvt. Ltd. and Founder and Trustee, Ashoka University, who is one of the investors and founding member of Plaksha, told Business Insider. The university will be built upon 50 acres of land near Chandigarh International Airport, near Indian School of Business, Mohali. In its first phase, the investors have planned to invest ₹3,500 million in capital for a 1,000 student campus. In 10 years, the founders aim for it to become a 8,000-students campus. “We met the Punjab and Haryana government, where the Punjab government was excited about the university. When the idea started it was five-six of us and now we have reached 40, the number will keep growing as it’s a combined philanthropic effort,” said Gupta. The idea behind the university is bringing technological solutions for society, Gupta said, adding they hope its ideas will help solve India’s challenges in areas ranging from food security, environment sustainability, health, education or innovation in manufacturing. “Technology has a huge role to play in advancing solutions for these problems.While the approach of the university will be to look at cutting edge technology in sectors like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, robotics among other, we would like the university to sensitize and deal with solutions focused on India,” said Gupta. The importance of technology and innovation education has been a big theme at almost every other startup meet or discussion at Indian events focused on entrepreneurship. The setting up of this university will lead to more students having an option to learn about entrepreneurship and technology before actually being a part of the game. “Education is a big multiplier…most of us got good education at IITs almost for free and what we are today is because of that quality education. The startup fever has now gripped faculty members of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) who are now, independently or collaboratively, coming up with their own ventures and turning entrepreneurs. 
 Faculty members of <keyword id="6354859" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT">IIT</keyword> from across India, including Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kharagpur and Hyderabad, are leading the trend. Nineteen startups were only from IIT Madras in 2014-15. 
 An Economic Times report quoted <keyword id="2914509" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ravikrishnan-Elangovan">Ravikrishnan Elangovan</keyword> (33) who joined <keyword id="57604" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="iit-delhi">IIT Delhi</keyword>'s department of biochemical engineering and biotechnology as assistant professor in 2010 where he met Vivekanandan Perumal and Shalini Gupta, both of whom had also joined the institute as faculty members after their post-doctoral degrees from the US. The trio wanted to develop a solution for typhoid diagnosis, for which they put up a proposal with the department of biotechnology in 2013 and got funded. 
 
Faculty forming new companies is an integral part of the academia-entrepreneurship intersection in the US, especially in places like Stanford and MIT. But the trend is slowly gaining momentum here in India as well. 
 
As per the report published in the financial daily, IIT Madras has so far spawned 16 startups that have been founded or co-founded by its faculty members. Thirty of the 89 tech start-ups birthed at the institute have faculty members as founders or minority shareholders. 
 <keyword id="2914508" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT-Madras-Incubation-Cell">IIT Madras Incubation Cell</keyword> CEO Tamaswati Ghosh said, "We are witnessing an increasing trend of joint collaboration between faculty members and their current and graduated students, with research being translated into commercial ventures/companies." 
 
At IIT Kharagpur, the first such registration for a joint venture between a faculty member and a student happened way back in 2007, such instances have gained momentum recently. "For the past two to three years, we're getting registrations from three to four such companies each year," says PP Das, head of Rajendra Mishra School of Engineering Entrepreneurship at IIT Kharagpur. One more such company — in the Internet security business — is likely to get registered next month.
