In episode five, they agree to talk more and check in with each other on Sundays to discuss everything, including difficult topics.</p><p>But according to Lind, it may not be smooth sailing for the triad for the remainder of the season. </p><p>"We end up each taking a turn being the jealous one or the one that feels most loved and I think that our main goal here is to make sure that everyone feels equal, which is obviously a really hard thing to do in a poly relationship," Lind said. "And I think it's really cool for viewers to be able to kind of go through that experience with them. So, we'll see. Next up: Emily Lind.</em></p><p>When I ask Emily Lind who she grew up admiring, I half-expect her to say Jenny Humphrey.</p><p>The blonde "Gossip Girl" rebel, played by real-life rocker Taylor Momsen, seems like a natural comparison for Lind. After all, the drowsy-eyed 18-year-old actress has been cast as a lead in the show's upcoming reboot on HBO Max, but moonlights as a musician in real life.</p><p>Instead, Lind says without hesitation: "I really wanted to be Bob Dylan."</p><p>"I started writing music when I was about 10, little folk tunes," she tells me during a recent Zoom call. "I taught myself guitar, I learned a C and a G chord and I thought I was the s---. But I never shared it with anyone, because it was very personal to me and it was more of an outlet for a very long time."</p><p><div type="image" title="emily lind zoom interview" height="900" width="1200" msid="75700483" hostid="261"></div></p><p>"Just recently," she continues, "I decided that I think I have something I could share with the world that could maybe make people feel less alone. That's my main thing. I have all this stuff inside of me, all these lessons I've learned and that's what musicians in the past, my favorite musicians have done for me."</p><p>Lind is gearing up to release her debut EP, "Here and Elsewhere," during the last week of May — a potentially bold choice for a largely unknown, unsigned artist to compete for attention during the coronavirus news cycle. </p><p>But Lind, unruffled as ever, says she doesn't pay much attention to those sorts of industry-minded calculations.</p><p>"I've never really had expectations with my music and I choose to keep it that way," she shrugs. "I want to keep it as a passion of mine and not something I <em>have</em> to do, or something I'm ever forced to do."</p><p>"Honestly, right now, music is what we need," she continues. "Art really connects all of us. I just think that it feels like a great time for me, to be creative and make people feel better."</p><h2>Lind is an independent artist in the truest sense</h2><p>At just 18 years old, Lind already has quite a resume. She made her film debut in 2008's "The Secret Life of Bees," had a recurring role in ABC's "Revenge," and starred in the 2019 Stephen King adaptation "Doctor Sleep."</p><p>Two years ago, the teenager met two well-established producers through mutual friends: <a href="https://genius.com/artists/Kool-kojak">Kool Kojak</a> and <a href="https://genius.com/artists/Tizhimself">tizhimself</a>, the same duo behind <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDr9hRJqPX4">Doja Cat's "Cyber Sex."</a> During her very first visit to their homemade studio, she was hooked.</p><p>"It was just such a vibe," she tells me. "I went there and I was like, 'I just really want to hang out with these dudes. I want to spend hours here and create things and I want to do this.' So we did and we never stopped."</p><p><div type="image" title="emily lind 1.JPEG" height="2118" width="2824" msid="75700487" hostid="261"></div></p><p>The duo produced Lind's debut single, "Castles," which she released independently in November.</p><p>The glittering, indie-pop record recalls Billie Eilish's knack for <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeGT5uu_lR0&amp;t=2st=2s">addictive, unconventional song structures</a>. "Castles" starts with a pre-chorus, a hook, then another pre-chorus before gliding into the first verse — which quickly melts into a second verse with an entirely different rhythm.</p><p>Lind's voice skates and pirouettes over a polished, trap-inspired beat, buoyed by the acoustic guitar that swirls underneath. She neither sings nor raps, but gives you just enough to keep you curious before heading back into the pre-chorus.</p><p>After another hook, the song ends with what sounds like a bridge. It's not the pop formula you're used to, but bears the same elusive, unbothered energy that Eilish has weaponized so effectively.</p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9JbnimllEGQ" frameborder="0"></iframe><p>Lind, the daughter of "One Tree Hill" actress Barbara Alyn Woods and director John Lind, has had Hollywood connections since birth. But she's balked at the chance to sign with a label, preferring to have ownership over the songs she mostly writes in her bedroom.</p><p>"We have full control over it and we don't have deadlines," Lind says, referring to herself and her two producers. "It's the whole idea of art not being forced out of someone. If I wasn't feeling inspired right now, I wouldn't have to be doing what I'm doing."</p><p>"There's just so much artistic freedom there, and I wouldn't have it any other way."</p><h2>Lind's new single, 'Spotless Mind,' is a whimsical folk song that's rooted in reality</h2><p>Listening to Lind's new single, her idolization of lyricists like Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and Leonard Cohen becomes clear.</p><p>"Spotless Mind" is just Lind's feathery voice paired with a shimmery acoustic guitar — a timeless formula, but one made even more powerful with her thoughtful, specific songwriting.</p><p>She sings about little moments that trigger nostalgia and regret, like finding an ex-lover's toothbrush and thinking about "all the graveyards we used to kiss in." She says both examples were inspired by real-life memories.</p><p>"I think that's something a lot of people can relate to," she explains, "when you're in a relationship and then you're out of it, and all of a sudden you find something — there's a jacket that they left and you smell it and it's like, 'Oh my god, it still smells like this person. I want to burn this, but at the same time I really want to sleep in this tonight.'"</p><iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/40oLHUxXfd6mWRZcXzfV1U" width="300" height="380" frameborder="0"></iframe><p>The song is a taste of Lind's forthcoming seven-song EP, which she describes as "sad-boy music for the soul."</p><p>"Whenever I imagine people listening to the songs, I imagine them listening to them on their computer, sitting next to their bed, looking up at their ceiling," she says, letting out a self-aware chuckle. "Honestly, it's pretty specific, but those are the songs that I'm really into. Like, you know, 'You can sit down and really dwell in your sadness with me.'"</p><p>Many of her songs were originally written as poems "in my room around 3 am," when Lind feels "the moodiest." Others began as "super s---ty voice memos of me saying something weird," or were directly inspired by real-life conversations.</p><p>"If someone says something that is interesting to me, I'll write it down. I'm constantly quoting people," she explains, pausing for a moment and smiling, "which is probably terrifying for people when they hear the songs."</p><p><div type="image" title="emily lind 3" height="2000" width="2667" msid="75700488" hostid="261"></div></p><p>"I mostly threw out the idea of ever wanting to become successful as a musician," she continues, explaining her lyrical process. "I was like, 'Write what feels natural and write what feels good, and just f--- everything else.'"</p><p>"I was getting so down to the formulas, so down to what I thought everyone else was going to want to listen to, that I just ended up feeling like I'm not making music <em>I</em> like anymore, and I'm done with that. If you don't like it, you don't like it."</p><h2>Lind says she finds it 'pretty simple' to let her two passions coexist</h2><p>When I ask Lind how she intends to juggle her music with her acting career, she nods solemnly, as if she's been expecting this question all along.</p><p>"I find it pretty simple, actually," she replies.</p><p>"Music is not work for me. It's something that I do because I love it, and it's something that I do as a coping mechanism. I find a lot of therapy in it. It doesn't feel like a job," she elaborates. "I don't ever want it to feel like a job."</p><p>"Acting is my job," she continues, "but I'm very lucky that my job is something that I am also very passionate about and haven't lost the fire for. I've just been very lucky. I can do both, and I hope that it stays like that for a long time."</p><p><div type="image" title="emily lind photoshoot" height="3000" width="4000" msid="75700492" hostid="261"></div></p><p>When pressed for details about the "Gossip Girl" reboot, Lind remains loyally tight-lipped about the new story of the Upper East Side, which will take place eight years after the original's finale.</p><p>Lind will play a new member of Manhattan's young elite named Audrey, "who has been in a long term relationship and is beginning to wonder what more could be out there," <a href="https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/gossip-girl-hbo-max-series-emily-alyn-lind-1203520790/">according to Variety</a>.</p><p>When she met for the role, Lind says, the creators "told me a bit about Audrey and her values and whatnot, but she is very under wraps right now."</p><p>"I think I can say," she allows, "that these characters are going to be different from the original, in the sense that they're going to be talking about a lot of subjects that are relevant to today's society — today's Instagram generation, social media generation. It's not going to be very fluffy at all."</p><p>"I think the creators are very interested — and I think they've said this — on creating content that really resonates with today's younger people, that is as real as possible and has consequences."</p><p>As for Lind's favorite character in the original series? It's not Little J, but rather Blair Waldorf who takes the crown.</p><p>"She is just who she is," Lind says. 'Gossip Girl' star Evan Mock wants Tom Holland to guest star on the show: 'I love him'

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Warning: There are spoilers ahead for season one of "<keyword id="12069428" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="gossip-girl" source="Orion">Gossip Girl</keyword>" on HBO Max.</li><li>Showrunner Joshua Safran spoke to Insider about bringing back stars from the original series on episode 10.</li></ul><p>"<a href="https://www.insider.com/category/gossip-girl">Gossip Girl</a>" showrunner Joshua Safran explained how he brought back several familiar faces from the original drama series for <a href="https://www.insider.com/gossip-girl-reboot-details-plot-information-2020-3">the HBO Max show</a>.</p><p>"No convincing necessary," Safran told <a href="https://www.insider.com/">Insider</a>. </p><p>The final three episodes of season one were released on Thursday on the streamer. Episode 10, titled "Final Cancellation" features the return of original series characters Eleanor Waldorf (Margaret Colin), Cyrus Rose (Wallace Shawn), Dorota Kishlovsky (Zuzanna Szadkowski), and Dorota's husband named Vanya (Aaron Schwartz). </p><p>Dorota's daughter named Ana, who was born on season three of the original show, also appears on the new series (this time played by Aubin Bradley) and fans learn that Dorota and Vanya also welcomed a son named Leo (Luka Danilovich).</p><div type="image" title="A woman holding a tray of food on season one, episode 10 of &quot;Gossip Girl.&quot;" height="1323" width="1764" msid="88061688" hostid="261"></div><p>Safran, who served as an executive producer on the original show, said that he knew he wanted to bring back these characters when he learned that "Gossip Girl" would be revived for a new generation. The showrunner said that he reached out to Szadkowski because he's been in touch with her over the years.</p><p>"I was like, 'I'm going to find a way to bring you back.' And she was like, 'Anytime,'" he recalled.</p><p>All the aforementioned stars, as well as cast members from the new show, interact during a Hanukkah dinner that takes place at Cyrus' home.</p><p>"We knew we were going to do Hanukkah. It was sort of a no-brainer," Safran said.</p><p>Viewers also learn that the old and new characters have some surprising connections. </p><p>Cyrus is an <keyword id="11896019" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="entertainment" source="Orion">entertainment</keyword> lawyer for Max Wolfe's (Thomas Doherty) dad, Gideon Wolfe (Todd Almond), and has also sued many of Roger Menzies' publications on behalf of his clients.</p><p>Eleanor is on the board of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and because the board gives grants to designers, Audrey Hope (Emily Alyn Lind) convinces Max to let her mom Kiki Hope (Laura Benanti) attend as Gideon's plus-one. </p><p>"Getting that band together was super easy and they're all such lovely people," he added. "They love each other. They love those roles. It was like the second they showed up on set, they were right back in those characters."</p><div type="image" title="Wallace Shawn and Margaret Colin on season one, episode 10 of &quot;Gossip Girl.&quot;" height="1332" width="1776" msid="88061690" hostid="261"></div><p>Earlier episodes of the HBO Max show featured the <a href="https://www.insider.com/gossip-girl-hbo-max-details-nods-references-2021-7">returns</a> of Nelly Yuki and Milo Sparks, but Safran said that episode 10 felt more momentous because the interactions between the new and the old characters were more extensive.</p><p>"It was so fun to shoot together," the showrunner said. "The only thing that I regret is we struck all the sets from the first 'Gossip Girl,' because we never knew this would happen, so the Waldorf penthouse no longer exists, and to build it would have been cost prohibited."</p><p>To explain why the dinner didn't take place at the lavish and iconic penthouse, Eleanor tells the guests that renovations have been ongoing for two years, so they're "stuck" in Cyrus' later mother's home for the foreseeable future. </p><p>"Yet another way to make fun of Cyrus," Safran joked. </p><div type="image" title="A group of guests standing in front of a dining table on season one, episode 10 of &quot;Gossip Girl.&quot;" height="1426" width="2880" msid="88061692" hostid="261"></div><p>With a second season confirmed and set to begin shooting in January, Safran said that he has plans to bring back more original stars. </p><p>"They're definitely in season two," he said. One, in particular, I'm crossing my fingers for."</p><p>"Now that you know the characters and you know the world, it gives us the ability to sort of truly amp up all of the fun 'Gossip Girl' stuff that you know and love without exposition or backstory or introducing new characters," Safran said about heading into the new season.</p>

"Gossip Girl" executive producer Joshua Safran will serve as the series' showrunner. </p><p>Here's everything we know about <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/hbo-max">HBO Max's</a> "Gossip Girl" reboot, so far. </p><h2>The show will take place '8 years after the original website went dark' </h2><div type="image" title="penn badgley gossip girl series finale dan " height="1575" width="2101" msid="78112317" hostid="261"></div><p>According to <a href="https://deadline.com/2019/07/gossip-girl-reboot-series-order-warnermedia-streaming-service-hbo-max-joshua-safran-fake-empire-warner-bros-1202647698/">Deadline</a>, the reboot's synopsis reads: "Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media - and the landscape of New York itself - has changed in the intervening years." </p><h2>The new characters will acknowledge familiar faces from the original series</h2><div type="image" title="blake livley gossip girl series finale serena" height="1242" width="1657" msid="78112320" hostid="261"></div><p>Safran compared the reboot to the ever-expanding <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/marvel-cinematic-universe">Marvel Cinematic Universe</a> during an interview with <a href="https://www.etonline.com/gossip-girl-boss-on-creating-a-marvel-like-universe-with-reboot-all-the-new-details-exclusive">Entertainment Tonight,</a> explaining that the upcoming show is "not a continuation or a sequel. It truly just is looking at a different angle."</p><p>The executive producer also said that the next generation of characters will mention people like Dan Humphrey (aka Gossip Girl), Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, and Chuck Bass.</p><p>"I would love to have them come back," he said of the "Gossip Girl" alums. "The show jumped five years in the future when it ended and we are past that five years now, so it's whole new things that they could be doing."</p><p>The current social media landscape, with endless apps that make it easy to know the whereabouts of others, will also impact the show. </p><p>"I think it very much represents where we will be at in 2020 when the show airs," Safran told "ET." "It really looks at how social media has changed."</p><p>He also told the publication that the reboot will center on students at the Constance Billard School for Girls, in their junior year and wearing uniforms. </p><h2>There will be more diversity and representation on the reboot</h2><div type="image" title="BLAIR and chuck gossip girl" height="766" width="1021" msid="78112324" hostid="261"></div><p>The original show was comprised of main characters that were primarily white and cisgender, with a few exceptions. At <a href="https://www.vulture.com/2019/11/gossip-girl-reboot-producer-promises-more-diverse-leads.html">Vulture Festival</a> in November 2019, Safran said that "this time around the leads are non-white" and "there's a lot of queer content on this show."</p><p>"It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now, where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that," he added. "The thing I can't say is there is a twist, and that all relates to the twist." </p><p>While answering fan questions on Twitter, Safran <a href="https://twitter.com/Anthologist/status/1302836633608151040">said</a> that the show, which is <a href="https://twitter.com/Anthologist/status/1302839724684451841">set in 2021</a>, will be "very, very queer."</p><p>He also said that "the majority of characters being diverse and/or queer" is the difference between the reboot and the original that he's most proud of. </p><p>Safran <a href="https://twitter.com/Anthologist/status/1302831799014273024">added</a> that the reboot's tone also differs from the original series. </p><h2>Kristen Bell will return as the narrator</h2><div type="image" title="kristen bell on gossip girl" height="786" width="1049" msid="78112327" hostid="261"></div><p>In November 2019, <a href="https://www.insider.com/kristen-bell-narrating-hbo-max-gossip-girl-reboot-2019-11">TVLine reported that the "Good Place" star joined the new iteration of "Gossip Girl."</a></p><p>Bell later told <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tU7IyDkEOA">"ET Canada Live"</a> that "'Gossip Girl's' always been such a fun show. I had a great time doing it the first time around. It's the same creators, Josh and Stephanie, who I adore."</p><p>"It was an easy yes," she added. </p><h2>'Code Black' actress Emily Alyn Lind landed a leading role on the reboot alongside a few rising stars</h2><div type="image" title="emily alyn lind february 2020" height="1237" width="1649" msid="78112329" hostid="261"></div><p>In February 2020, <a href="https://deadline.com/2020/03/gossip-girl-emily-alyn-lind-cast-star-reboot-series-hbo-max-1202871912/">Deadline</a> reported that the young actor and singer was cast on the series as Audrey, who "has been in a long-term relationship and is beginning to wonder what more could be out there."</p><p>Lind has appeared on shows like "Revenge" and "All My Children." She confirmed her role in the show on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B9PUeVwF1I4/">Instagram</a>, writing: "[See] u soon upper east side, xoxo."</p><p><a href="https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/gossip-girl-hbo-max-series-adds-four-to-cast-1203521269/">Variety</a> also reported a few additional cast members who signed on for the show. This includes Eli Brown (who starred on the short-lived "<a href="https://www.insider.com/category/pretty-little-liars">Pretty Little Liars</a>" spin-off titled "The Perfectionists") and Whitney Peak (who portrays Judith on Netflix's "<a href="https://www.insider.com/category/chilling-adventures-of-sabrina">Chilling Adventures of Sabrina</a>"). </p><p>Brown told <a href="https://www.etonline.com/gossip-girl-reboot-eli-brown-netflixs-the-fk-it-list-exclusive">Entertainment Tonight</a> that he can't share much about the reboot, but guaranteed that his character is "a really good guy" and one who "comes from a very wealthy family and he's a humanitarian."</p><p>Johnathan Fernandez from "Lethal Weapon" and Jason Gotay from NBC's "Peter Pan Live!" will also star on the reboot.</p><p>In March 2020, <a href="https://tvline.com/2020/03/11/gossip-girl-reboot-cast-full-list-thomas-doherty-hbo-max/">TVLine</a> reported four more cast members, including Thomas Doherty (known for roles on The CW's "Legacies," Disney's "Descendants" franchise, and Hulu's "High Fidelity") and Tavi Gevinson (a former blogger who has guest-starred on shows like "Parenthood" and "Scream Queens").</p><div type="image" title="thomas doherty february 2020" height="1497" width="1997" msid="79197468" hostid="261"></div><p>Adam Chanler-Berat (who starred on the <keyword id="6355065" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="TV">TV</keyword> show "It Could Be Worse" and led several theater productions) and model-actress Zion Moreno will also star on the show. </p><p>NYU student Savannah Smith will also star on the reboot, <a href="https://deadline.com/2020/04/gossip-girl-newcomer-savannah-smith-star-cast-hbo-max-reboot-series-1202897734/">Deadline</a> reported. In August 2020, the publication <a href="https://deadline.com/2020/08/gossip-girl-jordan-alexander-cast-hbo-max-series-reboot-1203022120/">reported</a> that singer-actress Jordan Alexander also joined the cast of the show. <a href="https://deadline.com/2020/10/gossip-girl-skateboarder-evan-mock-hbo-max-series-reboot-1234591773/">Model and skateboarder Evan Mock</a> will reportedly be part of the reboot, too, <a href="https://deadline.com/2020/10/laura-benanti-gossip-girl-cast-hbo-max-1234605914/">plus Broadway star Laura Benanti.</a></p><p>You can read more about the cast members <a href="https://www.insider.com/gossip-girl-reboot-cast-photos-hbo-max">here</a>. </p><h2>It's unclear if any cast members from the original show will appear on the reboot</h2><div type="image" title="gossip girl" height="675" width="900" msid="78112331" hostid="261"></div><p>Schwartz previously <a href="https://www.eonline.com/ca/news/1059935/the-new-gossip-girl-won-t-have-the-same-mystery-we-re-all-gossip-girl">said</a> that the original actors have been told about the reboot and they're more than welcome to be involved if they're interested.</p><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/category/chase-crawford">Chace Crawford</a>, who starred as Nate Archibald on "Gossip Girl," appeared on Bravo's "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEc8qduNSoQ">Watch What Happens Live</a>" in August 2019 and said that hearing about the reboot "made me feel old." He also joked about "playing a father," on the new iteration. </p><p>The actor also told <a href="https://ew.com/tv/2019/10/12/chace-crawford-gossip-girl-reboot-hbo-max-cameo/">Entertainment Weekly</a> that he's open to appearing on the reboot.</p><p>"I just love Josh and Stephanie and if they wanted me to come and do anything it would be hard to say no," he said. "I'm always grateful for the opportunity they gave me and that whole experience - it was all of my 20s, it was like my college, living in New York for that time. I'll always have fond memories of it."</p><p>Meanwhile, Lively (Serena van der Woodsen) told <a href="https://www.eonline.com/uk/news/1117048/blake-lively-reveals-whether-she-ll-be-in-gossip-girl-reboot">E! News</a> that she's "not involved" in the reboot. And Meester (Blair Waldorf) <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d-8S0VLzhg">told</a> the publication that she's open to watching it, though she's not set to appear.  </p><p>In December 2019, Badgley (Dan Humphrey) told "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0Bhp4PqIGc">Entertainment Tonight</a>" that he hasn't had conversations with any of the creators yet."</p><p>"I would love to contribute in a meaningful way to it," he added. </p><h2>The premiere date for the 10-episode series hasn't been revealed yet</h2><div type="image" title="kristen bell 2019" height="1174" width="1565" msid="78112333" hostid="261"></div><p>The show is part of the programming for HBO Max, a new streaming service that launched in May 2020 and will also include the highly-anticipated <a href="https://www.insider.com/friends-reunion-hbo-max-special-official-2020-2">"Friends" reunion special</a>.</p><p>The reboot was supposed to be released by fall 2020, but production was delayed due to the spread of the <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/coronavirus">coronavirus</a>, <a href="https://www.vulture.com/2020/05/gossip-girl-reboot-hbo-max-release-date-pushed-to-2021.html">Vulture</a> reported. Now, <a href="https://www.insider.com/gossip-girl-reboot-delay-where-to-watch-hbo-max-2020-5">the show is expected to debut sometime in 2021</a>.
