Kolkata, Driven by robust growth, FMCG player <keyword id="40233" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="emami" source="Orion">Emami</keyword> Limited on Monday said its consolidated net profit for the first quarter of FY'24 surged by 88 per cent to Rs 136.75 crore, compared to Rs 72.69 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The company's consolidated revenues grew by 7 per cent to Rs 826 crore during the quarter. The company attributed the increase in net profit to strong growth in both its domestic and international businesses. "Excluding the sales of the summer portfolio, the domestic business grew strongly by 16 per cent, while the overall growth of the domestic business in Q1FY24 stood at 7 per cent. The pain management range, healthcare range, and BoroPlus achieved robust double-digit growth, and Dermicool posted high single-digit growth," the company said in a statement. International business grew by 8 per cent during the quarter, with robust growth in SAARC, GCC &amp; CIS regions. Emami reported relief in raw material cost pressure. The quarter witnessed a gross margin expansion of 240 basis points to 65.4 per cent. The company stated that despite investments in brand building and the integration of subsidiaries in the investment phase, EBITDA reached Rs 190 crore, expanding by 10 per cent, while the margin increased 60 basis points to 23 per cent. "While erratic summer weather and unseasonal rains impacted summer product offtakes, our non-summer portfolio grew strongly by 16 per cent. International business also continued its growth trajectory with 11 per cent constant currency growth. With inflation moderating further, we look to the future with increased optimism and confidence. The overall domestic business grew by seven per cent despite a challenging operating environment," Emami's Vice-Chairman and MD, Harsha V Agarwal, said. The company also concluded the buyback of its shares amounting to Rs 185.3 crore (excluding brokerage, taxes &amp; levies). Following the buyback, the share capital was reduced from 44.12 crore to 43.65 crore equity shares, and the promoter's stake increased from 54.27 per cent to 54.84 per cent. Emami shares jumped 2.19 per cent to close at Rs 560.05 at NSE.

Emami Q1FY'24 net up by 88% to Rs 137cr on strong demand

New Delhi, Feb 7 () Homegrown FMCG major Emami Ltd on Friday reported a 5 per cent increase in its consolidated net profit at Rs 144.44 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2019 helped by rise in gross margins and cost control measures. It had reported a net profit of Rs 137.54 crore in October-December quarter a year ago, Emami said in a BSE filing. Its total income was at Rs 828.22 crore, up 1.02 per cent, during the quarter under review, as against Rs 819.83 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. The company posted resilient growth during the quarter despite ongoing challenges such as overall weak consumption environment in the domestic business, weak rural demand, liquidity concerns and hike in food inflation, Emami said in a post earning statement. "However, delayed onset of winters impacted the sales of winter portfolio leading to an overall flat revenue growth in Q3FY20 with consolidated revenues at Rs 813 crore," it added. Nearly 65 per cent of the portfolio (excluding winter products) grew by 8 per cent, Emami said. "While lower raw material costs helped the company to increase its gross margins, ongoing cost control measures are expected to aide profitability in the coming quarters," Emami Director Harsha V Agarwal said. Emami's total expenes was marginally up at Rs 548.62 in Q3/FY 2019-20 as against Rs 547.67 crore. "Our international business and modern trade channel continues to perform well and we are hopeful that in the next 2-3 quarters, the overall consumption environment will improve to drive offtake," said Emami Director Mohan Goenka. Emami Q3 net up 5 pc at Rs 144 cr

Its revenue from operations grew by 18% to ₹4,591 crore from ₹3,882 crore in Q2FY22. On a sequential basis, its profits grew 29.7% while revenues grew by 13.7%. “I am delighted to share that we have witnessed the highest sales growth during a quarter in the last five years. This achievement has been on continued strong volume and mix evolution with broad based double-digit growth across all categories. Growth has been very strong in the large metros and mega cities and continued to be robust across smaller town classes including rural markets,” said Suresh Narayanan, chairman and MD at Nestlé India . However, fresh milk, fuels, grains and green coffee costs are expected to remain firm with continued increase in demand and volatility,” said the company in an exchange statement. Following the better-than-expected results, shares of the company were up 1.22% to ₹19,624 in the mid-afternoon trade. The company said growth was driven by strong sales in Maggi noodles, Milkmaid, Nescafe Classic, Sunrise and packaged mixes for vending machines, during the quarter. Maggi maker Nestlé India’s net profit grows 8.3% to ₹668 crore in Q2

Shares of <keyword id="104225" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Emami-Ltd">Emami Ltd</keyword>, a maker of personal care products, rose to fresh highs after the company announced its quarterly earnings jumped on the back of higher sales. 
	 
	Emami said its first quarter Net Profit rose 24% to 87.8 crore rupees compared with 70.8 crore rupees in the same quarter a year ago. Sales during April-June rose 22 percent to 590 crore rupees from 481.7 crore rupees in the year ago period. 
	 
	Emami rose 2.6%, or 35 rupees, to 1,365 rupees, a record high on the National Stock Exchange, where 3.10 lakh shares were traded by 12:35 pm compared with the 5-day average of 2.07 lakh shares. 
	 Emami's market capitalisation has jumped 150% in the past one year to 30,560 crore rupees as investors bought into its acquisitive management and sought the relatively safety and predictability of sales and revenues of <keyword id="34523" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="fmcg">FMCG</keyword> companies.

Markets hold their breath ahead of the monetary policy today

Varun Berry, the chief executive (CEO) of Britannia, wants to increase prices of Britannia products. The inflation rate has increased to around 6-7% compared to April-June 2021. Meanwhile, fuel prices have increased another 1-2%, which has hit the company’s supply chain. “It’s a very high inflation number that we are currently sitting on. A situation like this, just necessitates [price increase]. Cost efficiency can never take care of this kind of inflation. Two-three percent we can usually take care of, but this necessitates price increase and that’s why we move forward with that,” Britannia’s chief executive officer Varun Berry, said in a call with analysts on August 2. There were two reasons why the Britannia shares rallied on Monday. Lux, which used to cost ₹22 in April 2020, was priced at ₹28 in May 2021. The company had also indicated this price rise in its earning call for April-June quarter of FY2021. “We are taking some judicious price increases in parts of our portfolio. Some of it has already landed and some of it will land in due course because the quantum of inflation is a lot. And also, we'll do it in parts of the portfolio where it makes sense,” Srinivas Phatak, former chief financial officer (CFO) of Hindustan Unilever <a href="https://www.hul.co.in/Images/jq-2020-transcript---final_tcm1255-553839_1_en.pdf">said</a>. He has currently taken up a global finance role at Unilever’s London head office. Which medium gets your lion's share? By DNA, we are a digital-first company. We function in full swing on the back of Social Media marketing and content creators. Content creators lead social media, and we believe influencers can be our ambassadors. Moreover, since we are a lifestyle brand, we are very focused on UGCs. We are currently on the lookout for going regional and trying to speak in the way and language that our consumers speak across the country. We believe that we should not merely translate the communication but trans-create it. Simultaneously, we are also gearing up to foray to other novel platforms and formats shortly. Q. As you build the men's wellness industry in India, what are some of the trends that you are expecting to see? How has consumer behaviour changed after the pandemic in this category? The pandemic inadvertently forced people to become more aware of their immunity strength and hygiene factors. Given that, consumers, in our case men, started to talk about personal care, hygiene and grooming became an escalating point for the tremendous growth of the wellness industry. During the pandemic hours, since everyone was working from home and salons were closed indefinitely, home-care and DIYs became the need of the hour. To assist our customers, we also came up with easy-to-use products that do not need experts, but consumers can use them in the comfort and safety of their homes. In the post-pandemic era, we believe consumers will continue to pay special attention to their personal care and grooming regime. The trend to use chemical and cruelty-free products will continue to gain strength, and consumers will incline towards affordable and effective product lines. Q. What are some of the challenges in this category? The biggest challenge is that consuming nutraceuticals is still considered taboo. More acceptance through education and workshops is required. Most importantly, wellness products should be safe to consume, which is why we have gotten MinStrips certified by several leading laboratories. Considering consumers today are busy with their fast-moving routines, we wanted to make MinStrips-brought wellness a part of the daily schedule. It wasn't easy to come up with an unprecedented idea. Still, we wanted to bring a hassle-free and affordable Vitamin and wellness booster with an 'On the Go' convenience for our customers. And, we are glad to say that we succeeded in our endeavour. Q. The notion of toxic masculinity has forced men to ignore themselves. It judges men who take care of their health and skin. Do you think that notion is changing in India? Are men more open to this change? Be it through our products or campaigns, The Man Company believes in bringing out the 'Gentleman In You'. Since inception, we have witnessed a gradual change in the way men perceive themselves. Social media, movies, web series have spoken about this change for quite some time now. We also feel that India has been exponentially evolving in terms of mindset. Grooming has become an aspiration. It's no more just beard or face that men care about, but modern gentlemen are focusing on holistic grooming and wellness. We have garnered considerable traction from tier-II and tier-III cities, proving that men's grooming is witnessing a notable uptick. The Man Company has worked as a catalyst to bring in this change through various campaigns like #GentlemanTumhiTohho, #ScentOfAGentleman and Gentleman Kise Kehte hai. We'll continue to assist the journey of 21st-century gentlemen. Q. Which are your strongest markets? Are you looking at expanding your business further this year? We cater to all gentlemen irrespective of education, sexuality, religion, job profile, or age, but prominently, we struck chords with millennials and Gen Z clientele. Our target group is every gentleman who is real, modern, authentic, progressive and self-aware. During our growth journey, we realised that tier-II and tier-III cities have issues related to affordability and awareness related to men's grooming and personal care. So, we decided to start our e-business operations in these cities. Considering that we are launching a sub-brand (MINS) and a new product (MinStrips) in the new year, we are sure this year will end on a high note. Q. What are some of your focus areas for this year? From a brand perspective, we are focusing on thought-provoking leadership. We want to create a strong brand presence across the country and make The Man Company a household name even in the most remote locations. For the coming months, we are gearing up to collaborate with platforms like Cred, Trell, etc. to fortify our sales. We are also working on IPs, such as the Hall of Gentlemen, to celebrate gentlemen bringing selfless change to society. Apart from this, several other exciting IPs are in the pipeline that resonate with our core communication to bring out the #GentlemanInYou. We don't want to be a brand that does tokenism. Our goal is to become a catalyst in changing the mindset of men everywhere. Q. You are all set to double your sales to Rs 100 crores by the end of this fiscal. How are you planning on sustaining this growth this year? What are your revenue goals for FY23? We will be pushing content like never before and expanding our offline presence aggressively. In terms of MT and EBO presence, we'll ensure maximum outreach. We are also launching various interesting categories, starting with MINS and expanding existing categories with exciting and innovative products. <ul><li><keyword id="6359432" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="britannia" source="Orion">Britannia</keyword>’s net profit plummeted nearly 23% on both quarterly and annual basis in July to September 2021</li><li>The company has been witnessing unprecedented inflation in market prices of palm oil, industrial fuel and packaging material.</li><li>Sunil D’Souza of Tata Consumer Products expects that the food inflation will worsen in the October-December quarter.</li></ul>The higher input costs has been a major pain point for all fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) players — including <keyword id="6361485" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="marico" source="Orion">Marico</keyword>, <keyword id="75190" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nestle" source="Orion">Nestle</keyword>, Hindustan Unilever, Britannia and <keyword id="29464" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="parle" source="Orion">Parle</keyword> to name a few. The subsequent, rather constant, price increase across product lines has been the only saving grace for this segment to sustain their profits. However, this too may not be working as effectively as the segment may have imagined. The simple reason behind it is the rising inflation. The king of cookies, Britannia, has been increasing the prices of its products for several quarters, yet its profit has been declining. In the July to September 2021 quarter (Q2 of FY2022), the company’s net profit plummeted nearly 23% on both quarterly and yearly basis, despite increase in revenue and sales. <div type="image" title="Cookie king Britannia is unable to grow its profit despite a price increase" msid="87601047" hostid="261"></div> A similar trend was witnessed in April to June quarter of 2021 as well. Britannia, in its quarterly financial statement release on November 8, highlighted that it has been witnessing “unprecedented” inflation in market prices of palm oil at 54%, industrial fuel at 35% and packaging material at 30%. This is leading to an overall inflation in the July to September quarter to 14%. The company — which makes brands like Good Day, Tiger, NutriChoice, Milk Bikis and Marie Gold — initiated “necessary price increases” across its portfolio in order to mitigate the impact of the rising input cost, Britannia’s managing director Varun Berry said. Berry, on a call with analysts on August 2, said, “It’s a very high inflation number that we are currently sitting on. A situation like this, just necessitates [price increase]. Cost efficiency can never take care of this kind of inflation. Two-three percent we can usually take care of, but this necessitates price increase and that’s why we move forward with that.” Neha Khanna, director at investment banking and financial advisory firm Valpro, told Business Insider that apart from the rising input cost there are several other factors that could be leading to Britannia’s reducing profit. This includes stretched out working capital, marketing costs and more. Britannia’s shares fell 3% as of 12:25 p.m on November 9. This was majorly triggered by its financial performance in the last quarter. Valpro’s Khanna also noted that the companies could look at changing the pack sizes by selling less for the same price, however that always has the risk of hitting consumer sentiments in some ways. “That’s a classic FMCG tactic to ensure costs are saved,” she said. The other way to increase profit is by cutting employee costs, administrative costs or maintenance costs, she added.
