Emami founders step down from executive positions

In what could be referred to as one of the biggest deal of the season, Emami has raised Rs 950 crore debt to partially fund the acquisition of Kesh King brand of hair products. 
 
The Kolkata-based healthcare products firm known for Fair and Handsome and Zandu Balm will fund Kesh King deal from internal accruals. The balance amount of Emami in the first quarter stands at Rs 1684 crore. 
 
"The Kesh King business is being integrated with Emami's existing business and it has already started contributing to the growth. We plan to make Kesh King a panIndia brand soon," Emami Ltd director Harsha V Agarwal told the financial daily. 
 
Kesh King's market presence was limited to seven states only and Emami plans to export the product in markets where there is sizeable Indian diaspora. 
 
The acquisition enabled <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Emami-is-showing-the-way-forward-for-all-family-run-businesses-Even-the-Ambanis-can-learn-from-it/articleshow/47812411.cms">Emami</a> to enter the ayurvedic hair and scalp care segment. The company on Wednesday announced 23.9% jump in net Rs 87.75 crore during the profit at first quarter ending June 30 on back of 22.4% jump in sales at Rs 589.87 crore as compared to the same period last fiscal.

Plans are in place to expand the Zandu brand into newer healthcare categories and will soon start test-marketing some products in Andhra Pradesh, across both over-the-counter and through doctors. Emami has also decided to consolidate its international business on selected geographies such as the Saarc, Middle-East and CIS nations with a plan to grow contribution from 14% of sales to 25-30% in five years.

The new mega tower company In the endeavour to raise new funds, Vodafone Idea has sold off around 11.15% of its holding in Indus Towers to make way for a newly merged mega tower company. The Vodafone Group will still hold around 28.12% in the new firm. Meanwhile, <keyword id="6354287" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharti-airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword>’s stake reduces from 53.51% in Bharti Infratel to 36.7% in the combined entity. "Merger of Indus Towers Limited &amp; Bharti Infratel Limited has been completed today. The combined entity, to be renamed as Indus Towers Limited, is listed on the National Stock Exchange of India Limited &amp; BSE Limited," said Bharti Airtel in its filing with the Indian exchanges. Oaktree, Varde Partners and others offer $2 billion in funding The Oaktree-led consortium is formed of many companies, including Varde Partners. Sources told <a href="https://www.bloombergquint.com/business/oaktree-varde-said-to-offer-2-billion-funding-to-vodafone-idea">Bloomberg</a> that they have made an offer to infuse between $2 billion to $2.5 billion of capital into Vodafone Idea. But, this is only one of the many offers that the company is currently considering. Vodafone Idea is in talks with several other investors. The company has been reporting losses for nine consecutive quarters. And, since the merger of 2017, Vodafone Idea is yet to come up green in its annual reports. Vodafone Idea is the weakest of three telecom giants in India, the other two being Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio. And its survival is the only thing that’s standing in the way of the Indian telecom market turning into a duopoly. Vodafone Idea soars nearly 5% on fund infusion from Indus Towers stake sale

<ul><li>Finance Minister of India Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget on February 1, 2022.</li><li>Struggling with high inflation and tepid rural demand, FMCG companies were hopeful for some positive news, steps and reforms that would help boost consumption in the economy.</li><li>However, with no changes in personal tax, there isn’t for hope for a drastic change in consumption and demand.</li><li>At the same time, there are enough subsidies to support the rural areas of the country.</li><li>Here’s what leading FMCG companies have to say about the Union Budget 2022-2023.</li></ul>The Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitaraman presented the Union Budget for 2022-2023 on February 01, 2022. The government announced that 5% of the annual collections under the Universal Service Obligation Fund will be allocated to improve broadband and mobile service penetration in rural India. This move will allow Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) brands and all businesses to cast their net a little wider in rural areas via mobile services. The government’s plan to expand the National Highway network by 25,000 KM, the Gati Shakti plan to strengthen seven engines of infrastructure, the launch of 100 new cargo terminals, will further open up new roads for brands and improve logistics efficiency. It will also create new job opportunities in rural areas, improving consumption and demand. The finance minister also mentioned that the government intends to pay ₹2.7 lakh crore worth of minimum support price (MSP) direct payments to wheat and paddy farmers. The government is also looking to deploy drones for agriculture monitoring, crop assessment, digitisation of land records and spraying of insect pesticides. These initiatives will help boost rural incomes and aid the growth of FMCG companies. The Union Budget aims to facilitate ease of doing business and give a push to consumption by providing employment opportunities, improving infrastructure, focusing on technological advancement and accessibility. Here’s how these subsidies for rural India will pave the way for FMCG growth: Mayank Shah, Senior Category Head, Parle Products: First of all, putting money in the hands of consumers really helps, so they go out and buy products. So that was more on the front of ensuring that the demand remained robust given that we have gone through two years of pandemic. That was something that industry expected, either by tax cut, or by increasing the slabs tax brackets or by probably increasing the standard deduction limit. Those were the things that we expected but not much has been done there. However, on the second front of job creation, the government has done a lot. The budget talks about seven engines driven by PM GatiShakti that will definitely boost employment and increase the number of jobs. The budget also talked about 60 new jobs to be created in the next five years. That is relatively a longer process compared to the first expectation which was putting money in the hands of consumers, which would have yielded immediate results. A 20,000 crore boost in transportation infrastructure will definitely help in terms of job creation going forward. Another thing the government would have ensured on the rural front was increased allocation to MGNREGA or direct benefit transfer. In Fact they chose the other way. In terms of rural demand, when you're talking about putting money in the hands of rural consumers by increased MSP and increased MSP allocation, it is also going to have an impact on the inflation because if you increase the MSP, that eventually is going to increase the cost of agri products, primary inputs in food processing. So procurement is going to be increased. The current challenge ahead of most FMCG companies, which is managing inflation, probably would be aggravated, so I consider it to be neutral. Probably placing this money in the hands of consumers through MGNREGA or DBT would have ensured demand to remain robust. Ahmed ElSheikh, President, PepsiCo India: Reviving economic growth, increasing consumption, and fostering investment to fuel post-pandemic growth have been key objectives for the government, and the <keyword id="12134566" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="union-budget-2022" source="Orion">Union Budget 2022</keyword> reflects this very intent. This year's Union Budget lays forth a vision for India at 100 years. The Government is leading from the front by raising public sector spending to keep the economic recovery on track. It has undertaken some key initiatives targeted towards credit growth, farmer welfare, improving the health and education infrastructure, digital currencies and start-ups which will benefit young aspirational Indians. "ATNI sees food and beverage companies in India showing their commitment to provide healthy food and engaging in a dialogue on how to support India's Eat Right Movement," ATNI Executive Director Inge Kauer said. Lifestyle changes in India have caused a shift in consumer habits -- from the consumption of traditional food, to more urban food habits consisting of packaged and processed foods, high in sugar, fat and salt. This, coupled with the fact that India is set to become the third largest consumer economy, presents an enormous opportunity for food and beverage companies to make nutrition a core part of their business plans, and to adopt comprehensive, public and commercial strategies to address issues related to the double burden of malnutrition in India," she said. Sensex snaps 7-day losing streak after RBI assures support against coronavirus threat

New Delhi, Jan 29 () Leading stock exchanges BSE and NSE will shift several scrips to the restricted trading segment from Thursday to ensure safety of investors in the capital markets.
 BSE will shift as many as 30 stocks, including McDowell Holdings, Emami Realty, United Van Der Horst, Hindustan Everest Tools, Technofab Engineering and Lactose India, to the trade-for-trade segment represented by T or XT groups.
 At the same time, NSE would transfer 13 scrips to the trade-for-trade segment segment on its platform.
 In this segment, no speculative trading is allowed and delivery of shares and payment of consideration amount are mandatory.
 With a view to take preventive surveillance measure to ensure market safety and safeguard the interest of the investors, BSE and NSE have decided to move shares of these companies to T or XT Group with effect from January 30.
 In separate notices, the exchanges have asked their members "to take adequate precaution" while trading in these stocks "as the settlement will be done on trade-to-trade basis and no netting off of positions will be allowed".
 Further, value at risk margin of 100 per cent will also be levied on these scrips
 The decision with respect to these securities is part of a surveillance review, the exchanges said.
 They said the transfer of security for trading and settlement on a trade-to-trade basis "is purely on account of market surveillance and it should not be construed as an adverse action against the concerned company".
 These stocks would attract a circuit filter of up to 5 per cent which would be the maximum permissible limit within which the share price can move.
 In a separate statement, BSE said it has registered trading volume of 77,100 barrels with an open interest of 10,400 barrels, on the first day of Brent crude oil futures trading on Tuesday.
 The bourse began trading in futures contracts of Brent Crude Oil from January 27.
 The exchange will use Intercontinental Exchange's Brent Index as the final settlement price for its rupee-denominated Brent futures contract.
 "BSE is dedicated to deepen the Indian commodity markets by providing traders, investors and all market participants convenient and cost effective onshore hedging products.
 "We believe that this contract will be widely accepted by all stakeholders and emerge as a preferred risk mitigating tool of all stakeholders," BSE Chief Business Officer Sameer Patil said.
 Brent crude is highly co-related with the Indian crude oil basket and the BSE Brent crude contracts are designed to protect stakeholders from oil market uncertainties. AST SP ANS
