Canoo, which has never turned a profit as a public company, paid $1.7 million in "<keyword id="21231751" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aircraft-reimbursements" source="Orion">aircraft reimbursements</keyword>" for its CEO last year. The company had $886,000 in revenue, <a target="_blank" href="https://ir.stockpr.com/canoo/sec-filings-email/content/0001628280-24-014075/goev-20231231.htm#i5cf4fcff5f5a4438b15ae9a52ca671ee_112">according to its full-year earnings report,</a> filed on Monday. The CEO was "reimbursed for business expenses, including air travel expenses for either, at our option, first-class airfare or the business use of his private jet," the company said in the filing. CEO Tony Aquila, who is also Canoo's chairman, owns about 14% of the company, per Monday's filing. Canoo spent $1.3 million on Aquila's air travel in 2022. Canoo, which launched in 2017, manufactures passenger vehicles, delivery vans for Walmart, and crew transport vehicles for NASA. The Texas-based company reported an annual loss of $302 million as it bleeds cash while trying to ramp up production. Canoo doesn't have enough cash to get through the next year without raising more money, and a <a target="_blank" href="https://fortune.com/2022/09/20/canoo-senior-employee-departures/">wave of executives quit</a> in 2022. After it reported earnings on Monday, its stock fell 26% on Tuesday. The company did not respond to Business Insider's request for comment sent outside regular business hours. Investors often scrutinize companies' spending on private jets, particularly when the business is troubled. When office provider WeWork tried to go public in 2019, it came under fire for, among other governance issues, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/wework-is-putting-neumanns-60-million-jet-up-for-sale-2019-9">buying a luxury jet</a> that was used almost exclusively by Adam Neumann and his family. Struggling electric vehicle company Canoo spent twice as much on its CEO's private jet as it pulled in last year

New Delhi, <keyword id="20643931" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tvs-mobility" source="keywords">TVS Mobility</keyword> on Monday said it has formed a joint venture with the Japanese conglomerate Mitsubishi Corporation to establish a comprehensive vehicle mobility ecosystem in <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword>. As part of the collaboration, Mitsubishi Corporation will initially invest Rs 300 crore with both parties committed to support the growth of the joint venture. This investment is intended to propel both the parties' vision in relation to vehicle ownership in passenger cars, commercial vehicles and material handling equipment (MHE), <keyword id="20036540" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tvs" source="keywords">TVS</keyword> Mobility said in a statement. The business model will have the potential to achieve USD 2 billion revenue in the next 3-5 years' time, it added. With this, the dealership business of TVS Mobility will transform into TVS Vehicle Mobility Solution (TVS VMS) offering a complete portfolio of services to its customers. "TVS Mobility, had pioneered the sales, service and distribution of vehicles market through its dealership business in India. This collaboration with MC will enable TVS to provide a range of solutions to the entire vehicle mobility ecosystem," TVS Mobility Director R Dinesh said. After providing integrated and digital platforms for the independent aftermarket, the vehicle mobility business will provide digitally-enabled solutions to customers, be it enterprises, corporates or fleet owners, he added. The partners would also expand partnership with vehicle manufacturers to provide integrated solutions across vehicle sales, operating of vehicles and Vehicle-as-a-Service solutions, Dinesh said. TVS Mobility forms JV with Mitsubishi Corp for comprehensive vehicle mobility ecosystem in India

<keyword id="6354720" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ola" source="Orion">Ola</keyword> on Sunday responded to the electric scooter fire incident that took place in Pune, saying our investigation has revealed that aftermarket parts used in the scooter led to a short circuit which resulted in the incident. The company also confirmed that the battery of the vehicle is intact and functional. In addition, the company informed "the customer is safe and unharmed". A user had shared the video of the incident on X, mentioning that the model of the scooter was Ola S1, which caught fire, and the incident happened near the parking lot of D.Y Patil College in Pimpri Chinchwad. "Shocking..... Ola S1 Get fired At Parking Near D Y Patil Institute Pimpri Pune," the user wrote. The news was first reported by Pune Mirror. The video shows heavy smoke coming out of a scooter while the fire brigade team uses a water hose to control it. While there have been no casualties reported, the scooter was severely damaged. This is the second such incident involving Ola's electric scooters in Pune. Another Ola S1 Pro scooter caught fire in the Dhanori area of Pune in March 2022. In July this year, an <keyword id="4393078" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ola-electric" source="Orion">Ola electric</keyword> scooter worth Rs 149,000 reportedly caught fire at a residence in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram district. Meanwhile, a similar incident was reported by another X user on October 20, mentioning a fire incident with Ola S1 Pro. "Hello Everyone, I am Abhijeeth Singh actually I am facing a lot of problems from Ola Electric. And the reason I am saying this is because, on August 24 my Ola S1 pro met with a Fire accident at midnight some 11:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. So after some effort, we managed to put off the fire," the user said. He also shared a picture of the extensively damaged vehicle in his post.

Don't "charge, drive, or store your EV or E-bike in your home or garage,"the post said. It recommended they "move the EV or E-bike 50 feet away from any other combustible material" and "have the vehicle towed to a dealership for inspection."Florida officials said on Tuesday that they had <a target="_blank" href="https://myfloridacfo.com/news/pressreleases/press-release-details/2024/10/02/fire-safety-alert-cfo---state-fire-marshal-jimmy-patronis--lithium-ion-batteries-are-ticking-time-bombs-in-wake-of-hurricane-helene">since confirmed 16 lithium-ion-battery fires</a> related to Hurricane Helene's storm surge, six of which were in EVs. Electric golf carts, e-bikes, and other battery-powered devices are also a hazard. The fires led Florida's chief financial officer and fire marshal, Jimmy Patronis, to call on automakers to be more proactive about notifying customers about moving their EVs to higher ground ahead of a storm (as <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hurricane-helene-electric-vehicles-evs-owners-fire-risk-safety-tips-2024-10">Gov. Ron DeSantis</a> did before Helene arrived) and about what to do if an EV is flooded."It's not too late for these manufacturers to send out notifications and fire safety information directly to their consumers," Patronis said in a statement, adding that his office was coordinating with emergency responders to make residents aware of the risks.The warnings come at a critical time for the EV industry. Consumer demand for EVs has been slower than expected this year, and Republicans including <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jd-vance-elon-musk-tesla-electric-vehicle-tax-credit-oil-2024-7">JD Vance have attacked the industry</a> in the run-up to the presidential election in November. J.D. Power has forecast that EVs will account for 9% of the market this year — a figure the group <a target="_blank" href="https://www.jdpower.com/business/resources/jd-power-revises-ev-retail-share-forecast">revised down from 12% because of slower adoption</a>. Surveys have suggested that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ev-charging-range-improving-americans-still-dont-want-electric-cars-2024-9">Americans are a lot more concerned about finding chargers</a> than safety, but viral videos of EV fires could fuel skepticism.Brent Gruber, the executive director of J.D. Power's electric-vehicle practice, told Business Insider that because of the recent fires, his team planned to begin tracking consumers' concern about EV fires.Some data from the Transportation Department and Tesla suggests EVs catch fire less often than hybrid or gas-powered cars on the road or in crashes. Saltwater storm surges during Hurricanes Ida, Ian, and now Helene pose a risk to lithium-ion batteries, but it's not clear how often EV fires occur during extreme weather events.A spokesperson for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said its data on vehicle fires was limited to fires after fatal crashes. The agency said that since Hurricane Ian struck Florida in 2022, it has monitored reports of EV fires during coastal storms in the southeastern and northeastern US and in California. It said reports of EV fires resulting from saltwater flooding came only from Florida."More research is underway to better understand the interaction of high-voltage battery systems and saltwater immersion," the spokesperson said. They added that the agency had proposed updating some safety requirements for EV batteries to reduce the risk of these fires.Albert Gore, the executive director of the Zero Emission Transportation Association, which represents EV makers like Tesla and Rivian, told Business Insider that manufacturers had done a lot of outreach over the past decade to local fire departments about EV-battery safety. He emphasized that the fires seemed to be limited to coastal regions where saltwater storm surge is a risk and argued that EVs in general are much less likely to catch fire than gas-powered vehicles."The most important piece of information to communicate is if you live in an area where there's a risk of hurricanes and storm surge, it's really important to move that vehicle to higher ground," Gore said.Several fire departments along Florida's coastline told Business Insider that they'd been <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-vehicle-fires-what-to-know-2023-11">educating their emergency responders</a> and the public about how to prevent and put out EV fires since Hurricane Ian in 2022.Kelsey Grentzer, a spokesperson for the government in Pinellas County, which covers St. Petersburg and Clearwater, said that so far during Hurricane Helene, emergency responders in the county had been called out to at least 93 vehicle fires. Grentzer said they were still analyzing the breakdown of how many were gas cars versus EVs.Heather Mazurkiewicz, a spokesperson for the North Collier Fire Control and Rescue District, which covers Naples, didn't have an exact figure for Helene but said the district had been taking the problem seriously."There's no predictability as to how or when a fire will start from the battery compartment. They're extremely volatile," Mazurkiewicz said.Even after an EV battery fire appears to be extinguished, lingering stored energy can cause what's known as a "thermal runaway," a cycle of overheating and over-pressurizing. Putting out the battery fire can require more than 10,0000 gallons of water, Mazurkiewicz added.The volatility was on display in the Pinellas County officials' viral video. The EV owners <a target="_blank" href="https://www.fox13news.com/news/electric-vehicle-catches-fire-garage-destroys-home-during-hurricane-helene">told a local Fox affiliate</a> that they narrowly escaped their home in Siesta Key as it became engulfed in flames and that they didn't know that a small amount of flooding could ignite the EV.

The central government had deputed a team of independent experts to investigate the incidents. According to a CNBC-TV18 <a href="https://www.cnbctv18.com/auto/40-electric-scooters-of-jitendra-ev-catch-fire-in-transport-container-in-nashik-13117622.htm">report</a>, 40 electric scooters from Jitendra Electric Vehicles, a part of the Shah Group were being transported from the Jitendra EV factory in Nashik to Bengaluru when a fire was reported in the upper segment of the container on April 9. "An unfortunate incident took place on 9th April near our factory gate in a scooter transport container. The situation was immediately brought under control by timely intervention from our team," the company told CNBC-TV18 in a statement. “Safety being of prime importance, we are investigating the root cause and we will come up with the findings in coming days,” the company added. The fire has added to the safety concerns as there have been multiple reports of electric scooters catching fire over the past few weeks. This could very well hamper the popularity of electric vehicles in the country and end up slowing down the rollout. This comes at a time when the sale of electric two-wheelers has <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/auto/news/electric-two-wheeler-sales-surge-over-5-times-in-2021-22/articleshow/90775731.cms">surged</a> by over 5 times in the past year. The Centre for Fire Explosive and Environment Safety team that has been deputed by the government is expected to deliver its report by the end of this month.
