The Chief Minister of Kerala, during the launch event, said, “At present, it has been implemented in 311 hospitals where this queue management system has been set-up. People can take appointments of the doctors through the <keyword id="12588015" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ehealth-portal" source="Orion">ehealth portal</keyword> and it will be easier for the doctors to refer patients to other hospitals.” The health card will store all the health data of each individual in the state, which can be accessed by the doctor of any hospital. How to create a unique health ID on the portal? <ol><li>Open the official website ‘<a href="https://ehealth.kerala.gov.in/">ehealth.Kerala</a>’ on any smart device and then click on ‘Register’.</li><li>Then, enter your Aadhaar number. Kerala rolls out e-health web portal — Here’s how you can book your doctor’s appointment online

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The rollout of <keyword id="764355" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="5G">5G</keyword> will affect a broad range of industries, including healthcare, AR, and retail. </li><li>Execs from <keyword id="6358096" type="DEFINITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="snapchat">Snapchat</keyword>, <keyword id="6393116" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="verizon">Verizon</keyword>, and other top firms spoke to Insider about 5G's potential effects.</li><li>They shared their predictions for how the technology will positively impact their companies.</li></ul>Even though it is still in the early stages, much attention has been focused on how <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-5g">5G </a>services will effectively power innovation and increase performance, across a broad range of industries. Verizon, AT&amp;T, and T-Mobile all offer 5G coverage across the US, and last October, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-5g-how-fast-is-it-and-when-is-it-coming-2019-1">Apple rolled out</a> a lineup of iPhone 12 models, all of which will be compatible with 5G.The technology follows 4G LTE, which is used for streaming and other data-heavy activities, as well as driving Verizon's national network, for example. 5G networks are anticipated to be 10 times faster than 4G LTE, as <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-5g-how-fast-is-it-and-when-is-it-coming-2019-1">Insider previously reported</a>. Widespread implementation of 5G is not expected until about 2025 in many developed economies, however, <a href="https://www.pwc.com/gx/en/industries/tmt/5g/pwc-5g-in-healthcare.pdf">according to a PWC report. </a>Insider spoke to experts in the healthcare, transportation, augmented reality, and retail industries to see how they will be able to leverage this technology. <h3>1. Healthcare </h3><div type="image" title="Amwell telemedicine tablet telehealth" height="1335" width="1780" msid="81737563" hostid="261"></div>The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of telehealth services in an age where social-distancing measures dominate our lives. Electronic interaction between doctors and patients has been relied upon as people follow stay-at-home orders.With the implementation of 5G, e-health experts and entrepreneurs are increasingly seeing how the new technology has the potential to advance healthcare to the next level. For example, by accelerating the use of <a href="https://enterprise.verizon.com/resources/articles/industries-that-will-benefit-from-5g/">augmented-reality applications</a> and robotics to assist surgeons in complex surgical procedures.Oliver Kharraz is the chief executive and founder of ZocDoc, a New York-based service that helps people book medical appointments. Kharraz said in an interview with Insider: "Investments in infrastructure, including 5G, will ensure that everyone has seamless access to telehealth and faster access to healthcare overall."For Kharraz, making a doctor's appointment shouldn't require perseverance. It should be a speedy, convenient process, he said, which is a distinct advantage of 5G, due to its super-short latency. When asked what problems 5G can solve in telehealth, Kharraz said there are three important ways the technology can resolve issues in telehealth: "Bringing consistency to the experience, offering efficiencies, and enabling more and better relationships." He said: "Right now, a patient located in an area with spotty connectivity may have to explain a symptom to their provider two or three times and wait through a screen freeze for answers to their questions; that's not a great experience. In urban areas, many of us take that connectivity for granted but it's not the reality everywhere.The proliferation of 5G will introduce efficiencies that will allow providers to minimize their efforts on administrative processes, Kharraz added. "For instance, in areas with good online access, appointments can be made online versus on the phone and documents can easily be shared on a patient portal versus a fax machine."<h3>2. Transportation </h3><div type="image" title="AP18011721808710" height="3537" width="4716" msid="81737565" hostid="261"></div>5G is poised to revolutionize the transportation industry in two categories - protection and personalization - according to Verizon's new business incubation VP, Elise Neel. By protection, Neel refers to the ways in which 5G can drastically improve road safety. Verizon's partnerships with companies like HERE, a location data and technology platform, demonstrate the possibilities of combining the power of 5G Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) with location intelligence. Neel said: "One application that was developed leverages HERE's HD Live Map and HERE's proprietary Live Sense computer vision technology to create a Vehicle to Network (V2N) communication system that identifies vehicles, pedestrians, bicycles, and barriers from a vehicle-mounted smartphone."The data is then sent in real-time to Verizon's 5G MEC network, where AI predicts likely travel paths and warns vehicles of impending potential collisions, Neel said. 5G will also enable innovations that help cut congestion by monitoring and controlling traffic lights; alerting drivers of delays; and providing smart parking solutions, according to Neel. She said this will allow cities to personally accommodate individual needs.Neel believes 5G is paving the way for an array of innovations that will reshape cities, businesses, and society as a whole. "These advances are merging the physical, digital, and biological worlds in ways that create both huge promise and potential disruption," she said. <h3>3. Manufacturing</h3><div type="image" title="AP17248783341009" height="2940" width="3920" msid="81737569" hostid="261"></div>Advanced technology through 5G will also enable new innovations in manufacturing.As information technology and operational technology budgets continue to converge, 5G will assist in the dawn of the <a href="http://www.verizonventures.com/blog/2018/10/the-fourth-industrial-revolution-part-1/">Fourth Industrial Revolution </a>as factories and systems become more automated and autonomous. Neel cites the example case of autonomous mobile robots and MEC, which will create new opportunities to upskill workers and facilitate a symbiotic relationship between humans and machines.Transparent and real-time data sharing can also improve response times, and enable predictive maintenance and inventory analyses, all powered by 5G.4. Augmented reality and artificial intelligence<div type="image" title="AP18333770202059" height="2593" width="3458" msid="81737570" hostid="261"></div>The future of AR and AI depends on the reliability of 5G networks. Carolina Arguelles Navas, head of AR product strategy at Snapchat, told Insider about the importance of <keyword id="1671941" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="60" keywordseo="5G-technology">5G technology</keyword> for Snapchat since it enables them to create augmented-reality experiences that far surpass anything they were able to do before. She said: "For example, our famous AR Lenses are usually around 4mb in file size. With 5G, we're able to deliver Lenses that are around 50mb in file size! It makes a huge difference in the quality, detail, and amount of content that we can pack into each individual Lens, and allows us to deliver these tech-intensive experiences seamlessly to Snapchatters."Last year, Snapchat put 5G to the test with the world's first 5G <a href="https://lensstudio.snapchat.com/templates/landmarker/guide/">Landmarker Lens experience</a>, built in partnership with Verizon. Together with Verizon and the band Black Pumas, they transformed the New York public library into an AR concert venue. Snapchatters on Verizon's 5G network could unlock an AR experience at the library, where Black Pumas' lead singer Eric Burton put on a psychedelic performance of their hit song "Colors" as a bitmoji-style avatar.Arguelles Navas said the company was excited to "continue pushing the boundaries of what's possible as 5G networks become more widely available."<h3>5. Retail </h3><div type="image" title="AP090612045071" height="2150" width="2867" msid="81737571" hostid="261"></div>When 5G is distributed to enough people, retail operations could potentially benefit from incorporating it into their business. The technology will be useful for experiences like VR and AR, which retailers can use to enhance their in-store experience, according to Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData, an analytics and consulting company. "From an operational point of view, 5G can be used internally to allow workers to connect to store and company networks remotely via portable devices," he said.The potential to further elevate digital communication comes at a time when engaging with consumers through technology has become essential, as a result of COVID-19 restrictions.Saunders added: "5G will allow retailers to deliver more information to consumers, which will improve customer service. There are many back-end connectivity issues, such as connecting remote sites and warehouses to the retail ecosystem that it could help with."

The approval could lead a wave of dose-tracking drugs that could give doctors and researchers better insights into medication adherence rates. Nonadherence is projected to cost between <a href="http://www.imshealth.com/files/web/IMSH%20Institute/Reports/Avoidable_Costs_in%20_US_Healthcare/IHII_AvoidableCosts_2013.pdf">$100 billion and $300 billion each year</a> in the US, in large part because patients who do not follow protocol often worsen and need additional treatment. The new pill, Abilify MyCite, was developed by drug-maker Otsuka and sensor-creator Proteus Digital Health. It works by having the pill transmit information to a wearable patch worn by the patient. The patch then sends information to the patient's mobile app. Patients can then allow caregivers and physicians to access this information via a web portal.Abilify MyCite could face a number of hurdles as it enters the market.<ul><li>There's not yet any evidence yet that Abilify MyCite's sensors can improve medication adherence, according to the FDA. More so, the drug's label warns that the tech should not be used in emergencies because real-time detection may be delayed, or simply not occur.</li><li>Patients can opt-out of sharing their data at any point. If a patient decides they no longer want to share information, the tech loses its usefulness.</li><li>There could be backlash from privacy pundits concerned of insurance companies using coercive measures to get patients to use pills with sensors in them. Insurers could offer incentives so appealing that they're almost coercion, Scripps Translational Science Institute director Dr. Eric Topol <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/13/health/digital-pill-fda.html?_r=1">said</a>.</li></ul>Nevertheless, this first FDA-approval could pave the way for other sensor-embedded products in the pipeline. DeepHeart is an artificial neural network - a form of AI - that uses heart rate and step count data obtained from wearables to detect medical conditions. The study found that DeepHeart was able to recognize hypertension with 82% accuracy and sleep apnea with 90% accuracy. These conditions are commonly undiagnosed - around 80% of people with sleep apnea don't know they have it and 20% of hypertension cases go undiagnosed. The results show how advances in emerging technology, such as wearables and AI, can be used to improve the rate of diagnosis. It could also help to pick up on warning signs associated with chronic and preventable illnesses, which could help cut down on healthcare costs. The ability to send scanned images, rather than just having a phone conversation, is expected to help both medical providers and patients by giving doctors and specialists more information about the patient's condition before they arrive at the hospital. This could allow doctors to give paramedics critical information en route to the hospital as well as allow paramedics to discuss the best hospital to take patients to based on their condition and the hospital's specialty. Although the current goal of this service is to provide better care for patients on long journeys to hospitals in rural areas, if successful, it's reasonable to think that this technology could eventually be used in any emergency situation. PATIENT RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT PORTAL RECEIVES $8M: Welkin Health, a US patient relationship management portal, raised $8 million in its latest funding round, increasing the company's total funding to $12 million, <a href="http://www.mobihealthnews.com/content/welkin-health-gets-8m-scale-build-out-patient-relationship-management-offering">according</a> to MobiHealthNews. The San Francisco-based platform sells its customer relationship management tool to digital therapeutics companies to allow them to manage and coordinate with large groups of people at the same time. Digital therapeutics refer to the use of digital and online health tech, such as websites and mobile apps, to change a patient's behavior for the treatment or prevention of medical conditions. For instance, a type II diabetes patient could be guided by a digital therapeutics service to maintain or improve their condition through monitoring blood-sugar levels, exercise, and diet. Welkin Health will use the funding to make its platform more functional to businesses and to support its growing staff - the company almost doubled in size, from 17 to 31, in 2017 alone. Looking ahead, services like Welkin Health will likely become increasingly important given that prevention and maintenance of disease can help alleviate the growing cost of healthcare. In the US, chronic diseases and the health risk behaviors that cause them account for most health care costs, <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/chronicdisease/overview/index.htm">according</a> to the CDC. The application programming interface (API) will extract data from Google Cloud customers' electronic health records (EHR) using machine learning. Algorithms will then use the data to create actionable insights for providers and health systems. Google is trialing the Cloud Healthcare API with a select group of partners, such as the Stanford School of Medicine, with plans to roll out the product more broadly over the next 12 months.Google aims to improve two areas of healthcare with its Cloud Healthcare API:<ul><li>Interoperability. EHR, including lab results and X-rays, are often held by the department the patient received care in, and are difficult to share between departments let alone organizations, which can lead to costly duplicate tests and procedures. Just 20% of US health system use EHR data from outside sources, <a href="https://www.fiercehealthcare.com/ehr/interoperability-usability-research-ehrs-onc-health-it-health-systems">according</a> to Health Affairs. By automating the process of health data collection and making it easier for providers to access medical records, Cloud Healthcare will help lower the chance of duplicate tests and procedures.</li><li>Predictive medicine. Machine learning algorithms can sort through massive caches of historical health data to predict outcomes in the ER, Alphabet technical advisor and former executive chairman Eric Schmidt said at HIMSS. Making it easier to collate information will give organizations more information to feed into Google's Cloud analytics, in turn leading to better, more actionable insights. This can improve inefficiencies in the workflow by alerting healthcare providers of potential patient issues. </li></ul>The update comes as Google faces growing competition in the healthcare cloud market as Amazon and Microsoft continue to ramp up their efforts. Allscripts will integrate its electronic health records (EHR) into Lyft's Concierge application programming interface (API), allowing providers to reach some 7 million patients, <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2018/03/05/lyft-deal-allscripts-lets-180-000-doctors-call-rides-their-patients/389122002/">according</a> to USA Today. Patients aren't required to have a smartphone, an app, or a credit card, to receive the service, which is paid for by providers.This is just the latest effort by Lyft to reach more hospital networks with its NEMT service. Lyft made a similar announcement in February 2018, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/digital-health-briefing-google-ai-can-predict-heart-attacks-from-eye-scans-lyft-hitch-health-partner-for-medical-transport-nokia-executive-sees-no-path-for-digital-health-2018-2">partnering</a> with EHR company Hitch Health to find patients who could benefit from a free-ride to their appointment. And there's already a substantial list of healthcare organizations that have access to the Lyft Concierge API, including American Medical Response, American Logistics Company, Carelinx, GoGo Grandparent, and One Call. But Lyft isn't the only ride-sharing platform moving into health and follows closely on the heels of Uber's health platform <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/digital-health-briefing-uber-launches-ride-sharing-platform-for-hospitals-teladoc-nearly-doubles-revenue-google-sister-verily-plans-insurance-market-play-2018-3">announcement</a> last week.For their part, Healthcare organizations are viewing Lyft's and Uber's moves into NEMT as an opportunity to stem the massive annual loss of revenue caused by missed appointments. In the US, missed appointments cost healthcare providers as much as $150 billion each year, with no-show rates as high as 30%, according to SCI Solutions. These digital interactions include processes like filling prescriptions, accessing test results, and making doctor appointments.
