“Make In India”, “Start-up India Movement” or any similar initiative cannot be successful unless we lay a strong educational foundation on which to build it. 
 
The Budget gives us an enormous opportunity to focus on education. 
 
It is a well known fact that India spends far less than the recommended minimum 6% of GDP on education. India spent a little over 3% of GDP on education in 2014-2015, not only lower than the world average, but even far below some of the BRIC countries. While South Africa allocated 6.6% of it GDP in on education, Brazil followed closely with about 6% of its GDP spent on education in 2012. Achieving high rates of economic growth will not translate into development unless we turn our focus strategically towards education. 
 
In 2004, the Indian government introduced an education cess of 2% and added an additional 1% for secondary and higher education in 2009. While a substantial amount of funds have been collected under this tax, the translation of these into progress in the sphere of education is yet to emerge. There is also scope for greater mobilisation of domestic revenue. According to the Education for all Global Monitoring Report, 2014, tax revenue in India in 2011 was 16% of GDP whereas in Brazil it was 24% of GDP and this made the key difference in enabling Brazil to go further than India in improving education quality. In addition to harnessing revenue, there is a need for ensuring transparency in government spending on education, focusing on vocational education, and strategically employing innovations to meet policy objectives. 
 
Education tourism, which refers to travel focused on learning from the location, is an area that could be focused on not just from the point of revenue but with larger objectives. Students from leading business schools now flock to India spend their entire semester here learning how emerging markets function or observing start-ups in India. We should tap into this market to build partnerships that enable us to effectively utilise the students and faculty travelling to India for such tours to promote our own educational goals. 
 
Education bonds in both the public and private sector have been suggested by experts such as Meena Sengupta as a way to deepen the market for investments in education. According to her, tradable education bonds could be used to fund libraries, research, travel grants, student social enterprises and national scholarships. Education bonds are rarely seen in India , even though is entirely logical for education ventures, even if they are not for profit, to increase the range of their funding options by seeking debt in the open market. 
 
The other side to this is social impact bonds, which refer to a new innovation where government enters into a contract with a private sector intermediary for achieving social objectives. The intermediaries are responsible for raising capital from investors, and based on whether the project achieves its objectives, the government repays the investors. The first such bond in India has been launched to improve educational outcomes in Rajasthan. The budget need not be just an exercise in fund allocation, but rather an innovative tool for promoting our development goals, particularly in education.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Employment in state and local <keyword id="6355445" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="education">education</keyword> has plummeted since February 2020.</li><li>State and local budgets have also been slashed during the coronavirus pandemic, leading educators to call for more federal funding so they can safely reopen.</li><li>The pandemic may also exacerbate preexisting teacher shortages.</li></ul>State and local education employment has plummeted since February 2020, according to the Bureau of Labor statistics.Between February and May, nearly one million less people were employed in the space. It will offer services across payments, commerce, financial and academia to students, parents and government job aspirants. Paytm wants a piece of the ₹100,000 crore education sector pie. And believes that it can gain Gross Merchandise Volume of ₹20,000 crore in 2019-20, from education alone. The digital payments company is not just offering services for payments but many more to help students. “Right from providing details on 25,000 colleges, schools, courses and exams, our bouquet of services will include – payments (in-app and in educational centres), commerce (coaching, scholarships, test preparation, admission forms etc.) and financial services (student insurance, educational loans, easy EMI, and banking),” said Vineet Kaul, Senior Vice President - Paytm. To enable this, the company has partnered with Railway Recruitment Board, Maharashtra Public Service Commission, National Testing Agency, Indian Navy, Amity, VIT, Manipal, AKTU, Army Public Schools, Delhi Public Schools, Delhi University, IITs, IIMs, NITs, Aligarh Muslim University, AIMA, ICAI, Narayana Group, Career Launcher, Made Easy, Career360 and several others. Paytm already offers options to schools and colleges to accept fees via Paytm app. It is now hoping to bring onboard 350 million more users from 20,000 private schools, 1,000 higher educational institutes and 1,000 coaching institutes. The Indian education sector is expected to reach a size of $5.7 billion by 2020. The sector is also brimming with startups like the unicorn Byju’s, Unacademy and more. They have been raking in users, business in addition to attracting investors.

AAP MP donates entire salary for education of students

The social finance site <a href="http://wallethub.com/edu/most-and-least-educated-cities/6656/">analyzed 150 of America's largest cities</a>, looking at two major categories: "<keyword id="6355445" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Education">education</keyword> level" and "quality of education," They broke those categories into nine metrics such as the higher educational degrees of the adult population, number of doctors per capita, and the ranking of their public schools, using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, GreatSchools.org and U.S. News &amp; World Report. 
Ann Arbor, Michigan took the top spot, followed by Raleigh, North Carolina, and Durham, North Carolina. The least educated city among the top 150 was Beaumont, Texas.

The 25 Most Educated Cities In America

Her arm is wounded and looks badly infected. Maybe she fell and cut herself. Or maybe she's been bitten. After some debate they decide to tie her to a tree. They want to know if she has information, but some fear she could be carrying a deadly virus.
It's not your usual summer semester.
But for students enrolled in Social Work 209 at Michigan State University, their situation can't come as much of a surprise. They're taking a course called <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/strange-college-courses-this-year-2014-10#run-for-your-lives-7">Surviving the Coming Zombie Apocalypse - Disasters, Catastrophes, and Human Behavior</a>.
MSU's immersive online zombie course is conducted through an intense, real-time group simulation requiring students to survive while a mysterious catastrophe engulfs Michigan.
Course materials range from traditional readings on human behavior and disaster management to dramatic videos that present groups with life-or-death decisions. 

Glenn Stutzky and his "Z Team" behind the course have joined educators around America who are using pop-culture hooks to explore more traditional research areas - from gender politics through Beyonce at Rutgers, to class systems through "The Hunger Games" at <a href="http://www.american.edu/cas/news/hunger-games-class-politics-marketing.cfm">American University</a>. 
"A lot of teachers around the country - whether high school or college - they have important content, but sometimes that's not really enough. You need to create investment, engagement and motivation," Stutzky says. 
With his zombie course, Stutzky appears to have succeeded. The undergraduate course sees over 100 enrollments each semester, and there's even been demand from the military, state police, and emergency managers. 
While he was devising his course on disaster management and human behaviors in catastrophes, Stutzky's college-age grandson had a piece of advice for him.
"Gramps, just don't be boring," he said. 
While researching ideas, Stutzky struck upon the idea of basing the course on a zombie attack after visiting the Centers for Disease Control's website during his research. 
"There, looking back at me was a girl behind some blinds - she was a zombie," he says.

The site always had good content on preparation and response, Stutzky said, but with the zombie angle, interest exploded. 
"That's where I got the idea," Stutzky told us.

It stands for a Multimedia Online Learning Immersive Experience, and it appears to be doing wonders for student engagement. 
Journal entries and videos produced by students show a high level of commitment and immersion that many teachers must dream of.
To begin with, students are divided into groups and become stranded in the midst of an unknown disaster.
Slowly, they get more information. 
Some of it is encoded. Some of it is garbled and incomplete. But through making decisions, exploring their environment, and solving puzzles, they gradually learn more about the unfolding catastrophe and often have very different responses to it.
<div class="KonaFilter image-container"><div class="image on-image"></div></div>In the case of the unconscious woman, for example, most groups restrained her until she regained her health. But fearing her reanimation as a zombie, one group decided to kill decapitate her.
The Z Team had been sure to include personal items in the girl's backpack to humanize her, so they were genuinely shocked by the group's decision. In another incident, they were surprised when groups refused to help a man pounding desperately on the door of their hideout asking for help. 
"He was a pretty good actor," Stutzky says, but it seems many groups weren't moved. "I was surprised. About half the groups didn't let the person in." 
So, what's the point of all of these exercises? Glenn wants students to leave the course with an understanding that humans have always faced and endured catastrophes, and will always continue to do so. 
In the event of zombie apocalypses and other catastrophes, Glenn has some sage advice. 
"[T]he best way to survive - even in a zombie apocalypse - is to have strong relationships with people around you. People that you care about and who care about you," he says. "Together we survive - individually, not so much."

Employers need innovative minds, but this talent is increasingly hard to come by, because people are discouraged to think outside the box throughout their lives.
It all starts with our <keyword id="6355445" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Education">education</keyword> system, which then influences the way our companies are run, and the way we think, argued Sir Ken Robinson in his <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG9CE55wbtY">wildly-popular TED Talk</a>. 
We recently came across a 2012 <a href="http://www.npr.org/2012/06/22/155225161/how-do-schools-suffocate-creativity">NPR interview with Robinson</a>, where he spoke about how the current education system chastises those who break out of the mold, because in order to do that, you have to be prepared to be wrong.
In our current system, making a mistake is stigmatized, even though making mistakes and taking chances is the only way we can come up with new ideas. He says that many people lose the fearlessness of their youth as they get older: 
"Kids will take a chance. If they don't know, they'll have a go. They're not frightened of being wrong ... What we do know is if you're not prepared to be wrong, you will never come up with anything original. By the time they get to be adults, most kids have lost that capacity ... And we run companies like this ... And now we're running national education systems where mistakes are the worst thing you can make. And the result is we're educating people out of their creative capacity. Human communities depend upon the diversity of talent, not a singular conception of ability."
Robinson said there's too much of an emphasis on "the one right answer" and this might not actually exist in the real world today.
Around the 19th century, the education system around the world was invented to center around the needs of that time: Industrialism. 
We've since gone through several cultural waves, and we're now in a knowledge economy. The essential value of our time is entrepreneurialism, which requires us to use our brains in entirely different ways. In order for companies and countries to stay competitive, we need to take a hard look at how we're teaching children — and adults — to think.

Even after three months of record-high jobs growth, there were still <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/july-jobs-report-economy-adds-million-jobs-unemployment-declines-2020-8">nearly 13 million fewer Americans employed in July than in February</a>.The current downturn has slammed workers across the entire economy. Historically, higher educational attainment has been strongly tied to lower unemployment. Americans with at least a four-year college degree have tended to have the lowest unemployment rates, while workers without a high school diploma have had the highest.That trend has continued through the pandemic, as can be seen in the chart below. While unemployment shot up to historically high levels for each educational group, rates were much higher among Americans with lower educational attainment.This chart shows unemployment by level of educational attainment among Americans over age 25, based on data from the <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t04.htm">Bureau of Labor Statistics' monthly jobs report</a>. Although unemployment has fallen for each group from their postwar record highs in May, rates for workers without any college experience remain around their Great Recession-era highs, while rates for workers with at least some college are higher than their peaks a decade ago:
