And that constitutes only the permanent job roles. Another 90,000 job openings are for contractual roles in the edtech sector. Simplilearn now has over 100 job openings for permanent roles and 500 vacancies for specialised or gig roles. “At Simplilearn, we witnessed a 30% jump in enrollments between March and April, 2020. While hiring was always part of the plan, the current phase has also triggered the need for more manpower to cater to this rising demand,” Kumar told Business Insider. However, as far as appraisals are concerned, Kumar said that the company is in a ‘wait and watch’ mode. “But all bonuses and variables are paid as per plan,” he added. Masai School is also planning to add nearly 20 people by the end of June. This includes Lead instructors, curriculum leads, technical mentors, marketing manager, admissions counselor and subject matter experts. “In addition to this, we have also rolled out appraisals to the existing team, for the year,” said Prateek Shukla, CEO &amp; Co-founder of Masai School. The demand for educators increase as the learner base grows Whitehat Jr, on the other hand, is doubling the number of employees and teachers to meet the 100% month-on-month increase in student enrollments. Unacademy too, plans to onboard over 500 educators over the next one year while it is also focussing on recruiting across teams such as sales, operations, confirmed Tina Balachandran, VP, HR at Unacademy. The edtech companies attribute the rise in jobs to the increased demand for online learning. “Due to the increased demand for online learning, we are definitely ramping up our backend and technology and have plans to hire 1500 employees across all levels and with domain expertise in the field of technology, product, finance, strategy &amp; HR,” said Vamsi Krishna, CEO &amp; Co-founder of Vedantu. The platform says that its revenue grew by over 80% with the students spending an average of 18-20 minutes per live class daily. Gradeup also witnessed nearly 25% surge in daily enrollments, especially live classes for JEE &amp; NEET aspirants. “With Covid 19 and the lockdown due to increase in demand, our requirements in academic positions have specifically gone up. At the same time we are also scaling up on the sales team to cater to the demand of online classes which were provided by offline institutes in the past. For the next quarter, we will hire technology, product and sales professionals. Edtech hirings at an all-time high — over 4,100 job openings in Unacademy, Vedantu, Simplilearn and more

It will be hiring across tech, product and marketing teams. “The ongoing hiring is a part of our company's expansion plan, in India and abroad, as we look to substantially invest in our workforce by the end of 2022," said Krishna Kumar, founder and CEO of Simplilearn. It claims that 20% of its hiring or 160 employees would be freshers and college graduates. In the coming months, it will also be recruiting a CXO, vice president, and a senior vice president both for India and the US. In the US, it aims to appoint various C-suite level executives who will assist in strengthening and structuring the team present in the country. Kumar believes that the demand for upskilling and reskilling will prevail in the industry. “Over the past couple of years, the shift to online training and education led to a growth spurt in the number of providers in the industry. The industry is currently witnessing a transition phase with hybrid models of work and study,” he added. Founded in 2010, the company claims to conduct more than 3,000 live classes, with an average of 70,000 learners who collectively spend more than 500,000 hours each month on the platform. Edtech startup Simplilearn bucks the trend — to hire 800 people this year

At least 22 edtech startups have slashed 9,781 jobs to date. In the first five months into 2023, more than 8,000 employees lost their jobs in India by nearly 50 startups. Homegrown virtual events platform Airmeet sacked about 30 per cent of its workforce, or at least 75 employees, according to the report. Corporate expense management platform Happay, owned by credit Card bill payment provider CRED, slashed nearly 35 per cent of its workforce as part of a restructuring exercise. IAMAI establishes India EdTech Consortium to uphold Code of Conduct by  EdTech Platforms

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Jackie Carbo thought her dream job in tech wasn't reachable, and she had more than $80,000 in student debt. </li><li>But the rise of remote work made it possible for her to make a higher-paying career shift.</li></ul>When Jackie Carbo completed her master's in education in 2017, she thought her <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/quit-job-start-business-work-part-time-millennial-burnout-treatment-2023-3">dream job</a> was out of the question. The Louisiana-based 32-year-old began making roughly $50,000 per year as a public-school teacher, but wanted a corporate job in the education-technology industry, she told Insider. Edtech also offered a path to a higher salary, which she'd need if she was ever going to make a dent in her student debt. Carbo graduated with $88,000 in student debt from undergraduate and graduate school, according to a document viewed by Insider."I could still have an impact in the education field but have a higher earning potential," she said. The issue: Carbo said most of the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/top-edtech-trends-2023-according-education-vcs-vr-teaching-ai-2022-12">edtech job opportunities</a> were located in California and the Northeast, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sc/things-to-do-when-moving-for-your-job-2017-1">moving wasn't an option</a>. Her husband has an in-person job specific to the region and, according to Carbo, "would not be able to find work in his industry" if they moved away. It also would have been challenging because his "entire family" lives in southern Louisiana, where they currently reside. "Those jobs were not an option for me," she said. Slowly, Carbo said she began to see the types of jobs that had previously been out of reach for her become available as fully remote roles. "With more remote positions available, I was able to achieve my career goals and not have to uproot my family," she said.Carbo still has over $80,000 in student debt, due in part to the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/when-do-student-loan-payments-resume-debt-relief-this-year-2023-3">federal student-debt payment pause</a>, as well as the fact she's only been able to afford the minimum payments. But she said she's in a much better position to pay it off moving forward. Or cried. It was a dream that at the time I thought was entirely out of reach. A year ago, I was a high-school teacher in southwest Florida, and I hated my job. After college, I was drawn to teaching for the same reason as many others — for the vision of making a difference. I had dreams of inspiring young learners and encouraging the next generation of independent thinkers and writers.Unfortunately, this vision is a far cry from the brutal reality of current-day teaching.<h2>I accepted my first teaching job in 2017 and moved up to the high-school level in 2019</h2>I'd gone into teaching starry-eyed and eager, but the low-pay, bureaucratic red tape, and grueling hours made me quickly disillusioned. Add COVID-19 to the mix, and I was in a full mental crisis.I was constantly being told to "do more with less" as teaching supplies like pencils, books, and computers were few and far between, much less professional development or mental-health support. As I struggled to deliver meaningful instruction to my classes of in-person and remote students, I went home each day exhausted, depressed, and mentally drained. My students weren't learning, I felt like I was failing, and I felt powerless to help any of us succeed. <h2>By April 2021, I'd come to the realization that after three years, teaching was no longer right for me</h2>That May, I gave notice to my school that I would not be returning in the fall and started taking steps to reevaluate my career and my life priorities. These companies need former teachers to drive content creation and research — and many of their jobs are remote. I started applying to ed-tech jobs and soon got several interviews. In the interviews, my travel website was the main topic of conversation. By taking the time to build up my online presence, I'd demonstrated that my teaching skills were transferable.In June 2021, I was offered a position as a content manager at a growing ed-tech company. When my offer letter came in, the salary was $20,000 more than I'd made as a teacher. It was also more than many of my former teacher colleagues made after more than 10 years in education. The position was 100% remote, had unlimited PTO, benefits, and a flexible work schedule. It was the perfect fit, and I accepted. <h2>Since making the leap to ed-tech, I've been happier, more fulfilled, and more productive than I ever was as a teacher</h2>As a teacher, I had very little control over my schedule, my day, or even when I could take a bathroom break. My school determined how many students were in my classroom, my state determined the curriculum I taught, and my district determined if my salary would increase (most years, it didn't).Now, as a remote worker, I get to decide how I spend my day and what takes priority. As a teacher, I was used to helping others before myself. Now, I finally have time to invest in myself and my skills. Remote working means I get to focus on what helps me — whether that means spending an extra few minutes enjoying my coffee in the morning or having the freedom to attend a webinar in the middle of the day. I've found that these little acts of independence and autonomy have greatly improved my happiness and sense of fulfillment. By the end of the summer of 2021, my fiancé also quit his physical therapist job at a traditional clinic and became a travel physical therapist.
