Cricket legend <keyword id="74016" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="greg-chappell" source="Orion">Greg Chappell</keyword> has revealed going through a financial struggle with his friends pitching in to set up an online fundraising platform to "enhance his last few years", according to a report. The 75-year-old former Australia captain, who also had a controversial stint as the head coach of the Indian team from 2005-2007, admitted that he is doing fine but is certainly not living a life of luxury as a result of his cricketing career. <br /><br />"I'm not on the bones of my a**e," <keyword id="39928" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="chappell" source="Orion">Chappell</keyword> told News Corp. <br /><br />"I certainly don't want it to sound like we're in desperate straits, because we're not - but we're not living in luxury either. I think most people assume that, because we played cricket, that we are all living in the lap of luxury. While I'm certainly not crying poor, we're not reaping in the benefits that today's players are," he said. <br /><br />According to the report, Chappell "reluctantly" agreed to a GoFundMe page being set up for him, along with a testimonial lunch held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) last week - hosted by <keyword id="1698935" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="eddie-mcguire" source="Orion">Eddie McGuire</keyword> and attended by cricket greats, including brothers Ian and Trevor. <br /><br />Chappell further said he is not the only player from his era who experienced financial difficulties, even though the landscape of professional cricket has come a long way since his retirement. <br /><br />"It is just my friends who realised that we didn't get a lot and just to make sure that Judy and I were comfortable in our retirement," Chappell said. <br /><br />"To be fair, there are others of our era who are in more dire circumstances that could do with the help and I don't think the game has done enough for players of that era. Particularly in relation to the comparison with today's era." <br /><br />"I believe the players that set the scene for what's happening today, should probably be recognised for the role they played in getting the game to where it is today," Chappell added. <br /><br /> Pacer Dennis Lillee, wicketkeeper <keyword id="553086" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rod-marsh" source="Orion">Rod Marsh</keyword>, and Chappell were part of an iconic trio that defected to Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket in the late 1970s. <br /><br /> But unlike Lillee and Marsh, Chappell didn't receive a fundraising testimonial at the end of his career to help set him up after retiring from cricket. <br /><br /> A report in news.com.au quotes Chappell's friends saying that he is doing it tougher than an Australian sporting legend ever should. <br /><br /> "Greg is a very proud man. He's doing it tougher than what he says," Chappell's friend <keyword id="19275796" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="peter-maloney" source="Orion">Peter Maloney</keyword> said. <br /><br />The Australian great also runs the Chappell Foundation, which raises funds for homelessness charities. <br /><br /> But the foundation makes sure every cent is distributed each year and Chappell doesn't keep any money for himself. <br /><br />"The Chappell Foundation is run by Darshak Mehta and 100 per cent of the money that is raised gets distributed," Maloney said. <br /><br />"They distribute it annually so at the end of each year, they don't leave any money and they're starting afresh." <br /><br />"If you put your name to a foundation you're entitled to take some money out of it. But Greg hasn't taken a cent out of it, even though he could have. <br /><br />"I guess that was the irony that he was the face of it and turning up to every function and he's raising all this money while he didn't have a hell of a lot himself. <br /><br />"Put it this way, we will probably end up raising about $250,000 out of it, and it will significantly enhance his last few years," Maloney added. <br /><br /> Chappell scored 24 centuries across 87 Tests during the 1970s and 80s and led Australia 48 times. Legendary Greg Chappell facing financial struggle; friends launch fundraising campaign

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Netflix's "The Gentlemen" is a spin-off from the 2019 movie of the same name.</li><li>The show follows an aristocrat who discovers a marijuana farm underneath his family's estate.</li></ul><p>"The Gentlemen" revolves around Eddie Horniman (<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-white-lotus-theo-james-said-fake-penis-was-ginormous-2022-12">Theo James</a>), a young aristocrat who inherits his family's estate after his father dies, only to discover that a criminal organization has built a large marijuana farm underneath the property.</p><p>The Netflix series takes place in the same world as the Guy Ritchie movie of the same name, which starred Matthew McConaughey as drug baron, Mickey Pearson. Although the show has <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/netflix-the-gentlemen-series-details-you-missed-2024-3">a few references to the film</a>, it tells its own story through Horniman's eyes.</p><p>Much of the series takes place in and around Halstead Manor, as drug dealer Susie Glass (<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/photos-what-does-the-cast-of-skins-look-like-now">Kaya Scodelario</a>) and her gang run the weed operation underneath the property on the outskirts of the grounds. The scenes inside the drug farm were shot on stage sets at Alperton Studios in London.</p><p>Although Halstead is a fictional location created for the series, Netflix used a real estate in Gloucestershire, England, to double as Eddie's luxurious home. In the production notes, location manager Iggy Ellis said that they chose the estate because it felt lived in, which added authenticity to Halstead Manor in the series.</p><p>"So inside there'd be some walking sticks by the door or a few shotgun rounds from where they'd been out shooting. There were cracks and tired bits as you'd get in every family home. But there was also oil painting and history and majesty. It felt perfect for our story," he said.</p><p>Loseley Park in Guildford also doubled for some of the interiors of Halstead Manor, and its grounds were used to depict the estate's woodland. And yes, that includes the cozy cottage where gamekeeper Geoff Seacombe (Vinnie Jones) lives with his family of rescue animals.</p><p>In the first episode, Eddie and Susie also take a trip to an underground boxing match to confront Sticky Pete (Joshua McGuire) over the bad betting advice he's given Freddy Horniman (Daniel Ings).</p><p>Anyone who's been for a night out in London may recognize the unique venue where the match takes place: Printworks London.</p><div type="image" title="Theo James as Eddie Horniman and Kaya Scodelario as Susie Glass in Printworks in &quot;The Gentlemen.&quot;" height="1179" width="1572" msid="108335765" hostid="261" sizebytes="66302"></div><p>The industrial building was a nightclub before it was shut down in 2023.</p><p>Fans of Matt Reeves' "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-batman-details-you-missed-2022-3">The Batman</a>" might also recognize the building, as it was used for scenes in the Iceberg Lounge, a club owned by the Penguin (Colin Farrell).</p><p>The series also introduces Stanley Johnston (Giancarlo Esposito), a wealthy billionaire interested in buying Halstead Manor because of the leafy green secret hidden on the grounds.</p><div type="image" title="Wrotham Park as Bridgewater House in &quot;The Gentlemen.&quot;" height="1081" width="1812" msid="108335767" hostid="261" sizebytes="55428"></div><p>But the mysterious Mr. Johnston also has an estate of his own, Bridgewater House.</p><p>While Stanley attempts to convince Eddie to sell the house, he invites the young Duke to a black-tie party at his home. These scenes were shot at Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire.</p><p>Interestingly, the sprawling estate was also used in the 2019 movie as the home of Lord Pressfield. There was a secret weed farm on his grounds, too — so perhaps Johnston snapped it up after the events of the film.</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>For the better part of a century, US pilots have fought to control the sky over battlefields all around the world.</li><li>Fighter aircraft have always been at the leading edge of those battles, and the US has fielded some of the most advanced fighters ever built.</li></ul><p>The surest way to secure the skies over a battlefield is with fighter aircraft, and nobody knows that better than the <keyword id="6404246" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="us-air-force">US Air Force</keyword>.</p><p>Though America's aerial-warfare beginnings were humble, the Air Force now has the world's best fighters.</p><p>With over 100 years of service, Air Force fighter jets have met every challenge they've faced and are constantly evolving in order to control the skies.</p><h2><keyword id="10261221" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="spad-xiii">SPAD XIII</keyword></h2><div type="image" title="SPAD XIII fighter plane" height="1197" width="1800" msid="79182104" hostid="261"></div><p>World War I was the first combat experience for American pilots, who were then part of the Aeronautical Division of the US Signal Corps.</p><p>When the US entered the war in 1917, it was "almost totally unprepared in aeronautical experience, equipment, and personnel," according to a post-war <a href="https://books.google.com/books/about/Unification_of_the_War_and_Navy_Departme.html?id=-DdqugEACAAJ" target="_top">report</a>.</p><p>With no experience or fighter aircraft of its own, the US had to purchase British- and French-made fighters. One was the <a href="https://www.lockheedmartin.com/en-us/news/features/history/p-38.html" target="_top">P-38 Lightning</a>, which was introduced in 1941 and was one of the fastest in the world, with a top speed over 400 mph. It was also used extensively for reconnaissance and obtained 90% of the aerial film recorded over Europe.</p><p>A P-38 was the first US fighter flown by an American to shoot down a German aircraft, and its success over Europe earned it the nickname "the fork-tailed devil" among Germans, referring to its distinctive twin-tail design.</p><p>The P-38 truly distinguished itself in the Pacific, however, claiming more Japanese aircraft than any other fighter. The two best US aces of the war, Maj. Richard Bong and Maj. Thomas McGuire, scored all of their victories with P-38s in the Pacific.</p><div type="image" title="Air Force P-51 Mustang Spangdahlem Germany" height="848" width="1400" msid="79182107" hostid="261"></div><p>But the <a href="https://www.boeing.com/history/products/p-51-mustang.page" target="_top">P-51 Mustang</a> is perhaps the best-known American fighter of World War II. Introduced in 1942, it carried six M2 Browning .50-caliber machine guns in its wings. Racks under the wings could carry 10 rockets or up to 1,000 pounds of bombs.</p><p>The Mustang could reach 425 mph and 40,000 feet, and was the US's primary fighter in Europe, though it also served as a fighter-bomber.</p><p>P-51s are <a href="https://www.af.mil/News/Photos/igphoto/2000593917/" target="_top">believed</a> to have shot down 4,950 enemy aircraft. They were so successful and so numerous (over 15,000 built) that British planes were able to resume daylight bombing raids on Germany in 1944 with P-51s escorting them the whole way.</p><p>A Senate committee called it "the most aerodynamically perfect pursuit plane in existence," and Hermann Göring, who commanded Germany's air force, reportedly <a href="https://www.google.com/books/edition/Fighter_Aces/xDouDwAAQBAJ?hl=en&amp;gbpv=0pv=0" target="_top">said</a> after the war that "when I saw Mustangs over Berlin, I knew the jig was up."</p><p>The P-51 was the main US fighter until the <keyword id="10261220" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="f-86">F-86</keyword> Sabre arrived in 1949, but it continued to serve in the Korean War.</p><h2>F-86 Sabre</h2><div type="image" title="f 86 sabre korean war" height="794" width="1457" msid="79182108" hostid="261"></div><p>The Sabre wasn't the Air Force's first jet fighter, but none of its predecessors could handle the Soviet-made MiG-15 when the Korean War started in 1950.</p><p>As a result, the Sabre was rushed to the front line. Armed with six .50-caliber machine guns and 16 rockets, the Sabre's top speed was 650 mph and its service ceiling was over 45,000 feet.</p><p>Its excellent maneuverability, combined with the fact that most US pilots were hardened World War II veterans, enabled the Sabre to wreak havoc on North Korean, Chinese, and Soviet pilots.</p><p>Sabres shot down hundreds of MiGs. One post-war <a href="https://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/files/2008_RAND_Pacific_View_Air_Combat_Briefing.pdf" target="_top">study</a> put the loss ratio at almost 2:1. All but one of the American aces of the Korean War flew F-86s.</p><h2><keyword id="1611350" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="F-4">F-4</keyword> Phantom II</h2><div type="image" title="F 4 phantom camo" height="1611" width="2496" msid="79182109" hostid="261"></div><p>In 1960, the US Navy adopted a new jet, the <a href="https://www.boeing.com/history/products/f-4-phantom-ii.page" target="_top">F-4 Phantom II</a>. Unlike its predecessors, the Phantom was designed as a fighter-bomber, allowing the Navy to field one model for multiple missions.</p><p>The Air Force adopted the F-4C variant in 1963. It was a twin-seat fighter-bomber capable of carrying up to 15,983 pounds of ordnance. It usually carried eight air-to-air missiles and eight 750-pound bombs.</p><p>The Phantom II was equipped with afterburners that made its top speed 1,485 mph, though it usually cruised at 590 mph. Its service ceiling was 56,100 feet.</p><p>It was the Vietnam War's defining jet. Air Force F-4Cs, with their speed and advanced radar, shot down 78% of the MiGs downed by the Air Force during the war. Only 33 of the 445 Phantoms the Air Force lost during the war were downed in aerial combat.</p><h2><keyword id="1590501" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="F-15">F-15</keyword> Eagle and <keyword id="59059" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="F-16">F-16</keyword> Fighting Falcon</h2><div type="image" title="F-16 Falcons for close air support, F-15E Strike Eagles for bombing missions and F-15 Eagle Fighters for combat air patrol" height="1231" width="2000" msid="79182110" hostid="261"></div><p>With the lessons of Vietnam, the Air Force was determined to keep the advantage in fighter technology. The future of aerial warfare required fast, cost-effective fighters that could dominate the skies while striking ground targets.</p><p>The result was the <a href="https://www.af.mil/About-Us/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/104501/f-15-eagle/" target="_top">F-15 Eagle</a> and the <a href="https://www.af.mil/About-Us/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/104505/f-16-fighting-falcon/" target="_top">F-16 Fighting Falcon</a>. The F-15 was adopted in 1976 and the F-16 in 1978.</p><p>The F-15 was originally designed to carry eight air-to-air missiles, but <a href="https://www.popularmechanics.com/military/aviation/a22355833/boeing-new-f-15x/" target="_top">later models</a> could carry up to two dozen. It also has a 20 mm rotary cannon, and some variants can carry 23,000 pounds of ordnance.</p><p>The F-16, designed as a lightweight fighter, has a 20 mm rotary cannon and can carry eight missiles and up to 8,000 pounds of bombs.</p><p>Both are capable of speeds over 1,500 mph and can fly as high as 65,000 feet.</p><p>The F-15 has one of the best <a href="https://warisboring.com/has-anyone-ever-shot-down-an-f-15-in-air-combat/" target="_top">reputations</a> among fighter jets. Boeing claims it has never been shot down by enemy aircraft, giving it a remarkable kill ratio of 104:0. (Israel's air force is mostly responsible for that tally.) The F-16 is also <a href="https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/meet-f-16-fighting-falcon-old-fighter-jet-keeps-killing-73676" target="_top">highly regarded</a>.</p><p>Though they were designed and built in the Cold War, the F-15 and F-16 remain the backbone of the Air Force's fighter fleet.</p><h2>F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II</h2><div type="image" title="F-35 and F-22" height="3280" width="4928" msid="79182111" hostid="261"></div><p>As the Cold War ended, a new type of fighter was being created with an emphasis on speed, maneuverability, and a new characteristic — stealth. They were built with new angled designs, radar-absorbent material, and new electronics that made it harder for radar to spot.</p><p>The first, the <a href="https://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/f22a-raptor/" target="_top">F-22 Raptor</a>, was adopted in 2005. Its internal weapons bays can hold up to eight air-to-air missiles or two 1,000-pound bombs. Four external hardpoints allow it to carry more missiles or more than 9,000 pounds of ordnance. It also has a 20 mm rotary cannon.</p><p>The second, the <a href="https://www.f35.com/about" target="_top">F-35 Lightning II</a>, was adopted in 2016. It carries a <a href="https://www.f35.com/about/carrytheload/weaponry" target="_top">similar </a><a href="https://www.f35.com/about/carrytheload/weaponry" target="_top">payload</a>.</p><p>Neither have faced enemy fighters head-to-head, but they have had <a href="https://nationalinterest.org/blog/reboot/unbeatable-f-35-keeps-winning-war-game-after-war-game-168452" target="_top">promising results</a> in numerous simulations. They've also bombed ISIS targets in Syria.</p><p>The US relies on F-22s and F-35s to check rivals around the world, and they've been deployed to important US bases in Japan, Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.</p>
