Jim Inhofe</strong> defended his US Senate seat against Democratic challenger <strong>Abby Broyles</strong> on election night.</p><p>Inhofe has been a member of the Senate since 1994. He rose to become the chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee. In 2014, he retained his seat by defeating his Democratic opponent by <a href="https://www.ok.gov/elections/Election_Info/20141104_General_Election.html">40 percentage points</a> of the final vote. </p><p>Broyles is a TV journalist and lawyer who has investigated wasteful state government spending and campaign finance violations.</p><p>In the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/elections/2016/results/oklahoma">2016 presidential election</a>, Oklahoma overwhelmingly voted for President Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton by 36.4 percentage points. </p><p>The match-up between Inhofe and Broyles was <a href="https://centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/2020-senate/">projected</a> as "safe" Republican by Sabato's Crystal Ball with the University of Virginia Center for <keyword id="6358883" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="politics">Politics</keyword>.</p><h3><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2020-senate-election-results"><strong>See Insider's full guide to the race for the US Senate here.</strong></a></h3>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>President Donald Trump has won Oklahoma, according to results from Insider and Decision Desk HQ. </li><li>Oklahoma has voted for a Republican president in every election since 1968.</li><li>The state has seven electoral votes.</li><li>Six of Oklahoma's seven congressional seats are held by Republicans.</li><li>See the live coverage and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2020-election-results">full results from the US presidential election.</a></li></ul><p>Oklahoma has voted for a Republican president in every election since 1968, reliably serving as a Republican stronghold. The most competitive down-ballot race in the state is in the Senate between Sen. Jim Inhofe and Democratic challenger Abby Broyles.</p><p>The state's congressional delegation is firmly Republican: All but one of its seven seats in Congress are currently held by Republicans. Additionally, both houses of Oklahoma's state legislature and the gubernatorial seat are held by Republicans. Oklahoma has 10 electoral votes and is not <a href="https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-election-forecast/oklahoma/">believed by analysts</a> to be competitive.</p>

So where do we go from here?</span></span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>According to JPMorgan banks analyst Kian Abouhossein, the answer is probably down. </span></span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>In a note Thursday, he cut earnings per share estimates by 2% to 4% for global investment banks between 2016 and 2018. </span></span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>The reason: the bounce back from the terrible start to the year just hasn't been strong enough. </span></span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>He said (emphasis ours):</span></span></p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">Following weak IB revenue performance by Global IBs in Jan &amp; Feb, we saw signs of improvement in March which have only continued in credit (within markets) and ECM in 2Q, <strong>with the remaining businesses showing normal seasonal slowdown.</strong></p><p>He forecasts:</p><ul><li>Second quarter fixed income, currencies and commodities revenues will be down 5% from the first quarter. That is better than the typical drop from Q1 to Q2, but it still represents a weak quarter.</li><li>Second quarter equity trading revenues will be down 9% quarter-on-quarter, with strong equity derivatives revenues, and weak cash equities revenues. </li><li>Total investment bank revenues will be down 5% quarter-on-quarter. </li></ul><p>That kind of a decline could have broad implications.
