New Delhi: Shares of Federal Bank on Tuesday jumped 8 per cent after the firm posted an 11 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 1,057 crore in the September quarter. The stock climbed 8 per cent to Rs 199.55 on the BSE. At the NSE, it soared 7.83 per cent to Rs 199.49. The lender had earned a net profit of Rs 954 crore in the year-ago period. The total income increased to Rs 7,541 crore during the quarter under review against Rs 6,186 crore in the same quarter last year, Federal Bank said in a regulatory filing on Monday. The bank reported an interest income of Rs 6,577 crore during the quarter, higher than Rs 5,455 crore in the same period a year earlier. Net interest income (NII) grew 15 per cent to Rs 2,367 crore, as compared to Rs 2,056 crore in the same quarter a year ago. As regards asset quality, the bank witnessed an improvement with gross non-performing assets (NPAs) declining to 2.09 per cent of the gross loans by the end of September 2024, from 2.26 per cent a year ago. Similarly, net NPAs, or bad loans, moderated to 0.57 per cent from 0.64 per cent at the end of the second quarter of the previous fiscal year.

Federal Bank shares surge 8 percent after September quarter earnings announcement

Shares of <keyword id="19906778" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys" source="keywords">Infosys</keyword> climbed nearly 5 per cent in morning trade on Friday, a day after the IT major reported a 7 per cent rise in consolidated net profit in the April-June quarter and raised its growth outlook for the current financial year. The stock jumped 4.76 per cent to hit a 52-week high of Rs 1,843 on the BSE. At the NSE, it climbed 4.88 per cent to Rs 1,844 -- its 52-week high. The company's market valuation rallied Rs 20,843.19 crore to Rs 7,51,247.27 crore during the morning trade. The stock emerged as the biggest gainer among the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty firms. IT major Infosys on Thursday reported a 7 per cent rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 6,368 crore in the April-June quarter and raised its growth outlook for the current financial year, signalling an improvement in the IT segment. With improvement in business, Infosys has shared plans to hire 15,000-20,000 freshers depending on the growth during the year. The company has been reporting continuous decline in headcount since March 2023 quarter. In the year-ago period, the company clocked a profit of Rs 5,945 crore, according to a BSE filing. "Infosys' Q1 numbers on all parameters have beaten market expectations," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. The consolidated revenue of Infosys increased by 3.6 per cent to Rs 39,315 crore during the reported quarter, from Rs 37,933 crore a year ago. For the current fiscal year, the company raised its revenue growth guidance to 3-4 per cent in constant currency terms from 1-3 per cent predicted earlier.

The stock jumped 3 per cent to Rs 1,159.60 on the <keyword id="19895774" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE" source="keywords">BSE</keyword>. At the NSE, it climbed 3 per cent to Rs 1,160 apiece. The state-owned life insurance behemoth had a net profit of Rs 9,544 crore in the year-ago period. The total income increased to Rs 2,10,910 crore during the latest June quarter as against Rs 1,88,749 crore in the year-ago period, LIC said in a regulatory filing on Thursday. <keyword id="22725292" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lic-md" source="keywords">LIC MD</keyword> and CEO Siddhartha Mohanty said the Assets Under Management (AUM) increased to Rs 53,58,781 crore as on June 30, as compared to Rs 46,11,067 crore at the end of same quarter previous year, registering an increase of 16.22 per cent. The total premium income for the quarter increased by 16 per cent to Rs 1,13,770 crore, as compared to Rs 98,363 crore in the same quarter a year ago. Asked about entry into the health insurance business, he said, LIC is exploring the option of picking up majority stakes in a standalone health insurance company.

Wipro on Friday posted a 4.6 per cent year-on-year rise in consolidated net profit for the June quarter at Rs 3,003.2 crore. The Q1 FY25 revenue of the Bengaluru-headquartered firm, however, fell 3.8 per cent to Rs 21,963.8 crore. The company said it expects revenue from the IT Services business segment to be in the range of USD 2,600 million to USD 2,652 million, in the September quarter. "This translates to sequential guidance of (-) 1.0 per cent to +1.0 per cent in constant currency terms," it said. Wipro shares tank nearly 9% after earnings announcement

The stock went up by 3.10 per cent to Rs 4,044.35 on the BSE. At the NSE, it rallied 3 per cent to Rs 4,044.90. The company's <keyword id="20097096" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-valuation" source="keywords">market valuation</keyword> jumped Rs 40,359.77 crore to Rs 14,59,626.96 crore in morning deals. The company - which competes in the IT services market with the likes of Infosys, Wipro and HCLTech - reported 5.4 per cent increase in revenue at Rs 62,613 crore for the quarter just ended. "I am pleased to report a strong start to the new fiscal year with all-round growth across industries and markets," K Krithivasan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of TCS, said in a release. TCS has declared an interim dividend of Rs 10 per equity share of Re 1 each. Meanwhile, other IT stocks -- Infosys, Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies and Wipro -- were also in demand.

With FIIs longs dropping further to 43%, Nifty may face resistance around the 25,100/25,150 range and any possibility of short covering can be expected above this range. "However, we at the same time see several potentially unsustainable drivers of 3Q's better earnings and cash flow performance."The analysts pointed in particular to Tesla's near-record sales of regulatory credits. Tesla can sell credits it receives for producing electric cars to other companies that don't meet government emissions requirements.It's a hugely profitable business, and the credits generated $739 million for Tesla in the most recent quarter, the second-highest amount after the previous quarter's $890 million. While the credits are a huge profit driver in the near term, JPMorgan analysts said that won't last as other automakers introduce their own EVs and buy fewer credits from competitors like Tesla."Investors should be cautious about capitalizing the earnings generated from these (100% margin) credits, given that one of the tenets of the Tesla bull case is the large scale electrification of the automotive industry," the analysts wrote. "As other automakers broaden their electric offerings, they should over time be in a position to generate their own credits, negating and eventually eliminating the flow of competitor payments to Tesla."The analysts also pointed to large working capital benefits, which they say are unsustainable.Tesla saw a large beat on free cash flow in the most recent quarter, but that was in part due to a large increase in the amount due to its suppliers and other accrued liabilities, the analysts say.Tesla has only ever generated more cash from an increase in accounts payable in one other quarter, but at that time, deliveries and production both grew much faster, the analysts said. They wrote in the note that this suggests that this driver of the quarter's strong cash flow is unsustainable and possibly reversing."Automakers are expected to generate cash from working capital as sales rise, given timing differences arising from the favorable trade terms they enjoy with suppliers, but digging more deeply into the benefit, we note only in one quarter has Tesla ever generated more cash from an increase in accounts payable than it did in 3Q24," the analysts said.The automaker reported earnings per share of $0.62 for the third quarter, outpacing analysts' expectations of $0.51. Its operating profit came in at $2.7 billion, exceeding expectations of $2.0 billion and marking a 54% increase from a year ago. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Intel recently announced mass layoffs of 15,000 jobs amid losses in Q2.</li><li>Shareholders are claiming in a lawsuit that Intel didn't do enough to warn investors.</li></ul>A Missouri-based pension fund is accusing <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/intel">Intel</a>, in a class action lawsuit, of hiding problems about its in-house chips manufacturing business ahead of the company's reported net loss and mass layoff of 15,000 jobs.Intel on August 1 announced a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/intel-stock-price-layoffs-weak-guidance-missed-analyst-estimates-semiconductors-2024-8">15% reduction of its workforce</a> after reporting a net loss of $1.6 billion for the second quarter.The Silicon Valley company, which once led the chips industry, has struggled to catch up with its rivals, mainly Nvidia, a longtime competitor that now has a stranglehold on the GPU business amid the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/intel-playing-catch-up-ai-race-chatgpt-chips-2023-10">AI race</a>.A lawsuit filed in a San Francisco federal court on Wednesday, naming CEO Patrick Gelsinger and CFO David Zinsner as co-defendants, claimed that Intel hid problems about its in-house chips manufacturing business that led to the dismal second-quarter earnings result. The lead plaintiff of the lawsuit is the Construction Laborers Pension Trust of Greater St. Louis, filed on behalf of other Intel investors.Unlike many of its rivals, Intel designs and manufactures chips through its foundry factories. The decision helped Intel tentatively win a $8.5 billion federal grant through the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chips-act-bill-to-boost-us-chipmaking-competition-with-china-2022-7">CHIPS Act</a>.According to the lawsuit, the company told investors that this in-house model will allow Intel to save "$8 to $10 billion exiting 2025."But the move turned out to be much more costly than investors anticipated, the complaint said."Unbeknownst to investors, however, Intel's foundry business was floundering, costing billions of dollars more than investors had been led to believe even while revenue growth in the division actually declined during the Class Period," the lawsuit said, referring to the period from January 25 to August 1, 2024.The lawsuit accused Intel, along with its CEO and CFO, of making false and misleading statements that "artificially inflated" the company's stock price.A spokesperson for Intel declined to comment.Shareholders in the lawsuit highlighted statements from defendants that they say showed the "purported success" of the company's business units, including the foundry model.One statement came from a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.intc.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/1672/intel-reports-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-2023-financial">January 2024 press release</a> from Zinsner, who said: "We continued to drive operational efficiencies in the fourth quarter, and comfortably achieved our commitment to deliver $3 billion in cost savings in 2023. We expect to unlock further efficiencies in 2024 and beyond as we implement our new internal foundry model, which is designed to drive greater transparency and accountability and higher returns on our owners' capital."Shareholders alleged in the lawsuit that these were "materially false and misleading" statements that failed to disclose that "Intel's foundry business was suffering from ballooning costs and required substantially more capital expenditures than investors had been led to believe and, as a result, had suffered $7 billion in losses in 2023."James Park, a securities regulation expert at the University of California, Los Angeles, told Business Insider email that the lawsuit contained a fairly "standard set of allegations." "Intel will probably argue that the claim there would be cost savings was a forward-looking statement," he said, which is protected by the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act's safe harbor provision.
