The ruling <keyword id="14666" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bjp" source="Orion">BJP</keyword> was ahead of the <keyword id="1575" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="congress" source="Orion">Congress</keyword> in <keyword id="44522" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttarakhand" source="Orion">Uttarakhand</keyword> with its party candidates leading in 33 seats on Thursday, according to early trends available. According to data available on the Election Commission website at 10:20 AM am for 56 seats, the Congress was ahead in 18 seats, the BSP in two seats, the Uttarakhand Janekta party and independent in one each. Prominent candidates trailing in their respective seats include Congress veteran Harish Rawat, who was trailing behind Mohan Singh Bisht of the BJP by 2,713 votes in Lalkuan and Subodh Uniyal of the BJP trailing behind Om Gopal Rawat of the Congress in Narendra Nagar. Yashpal Arya, who had returned to the Congress from the BJP ahead of the polls, was also trailing behind BJP's Rajesh Kumar in Bajpur by 18587 votes. Pritam Singh of the Congress was leading in Chakrata by 1805 votes against Ramsharan Nautiyal of the BJP The polling was held in the state on February 14 with more than 65 per cent of the electorate casting their votes. The ruling BJP is seeking a second consecutive term in office this time, something which has never happened in the state's 21-year history. Routed in the 2017 assembly polls with a tally of 11 seats against the BJP's 57, the Congress is trying to stage a comeback. Prominent candidates who contested the polls are Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, his cabinet colleagues Satpal Maharaj, Bansidhar Bhagat, Subodh Uniyal, Arvind Pandey, Dhan Singh Rawat and Rekha Arya, besides state BJP president Madan Kaushik. Uttarakhand Elections 2022: BJP takes comfortable lead with 33 seats, according to early trends

As the counting of the votes began on Thursday morning, the Bharatiya Janata Party was seen leading in the early trends in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Manipur while the <keyword id="6354944" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aam-Aadmi-Party" source="Orion">Aam Aadmi Party</keyword> made an early headway in Punjab. As per the early trends in Uttar Pradesh, the saffron party was leading on 155 seats while Samajwadi Party was ahead on 97. The <keyword id="6356515" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bahujan-Samaj-Party" source="Orion">Bahujan Samaj Party</keyword> didn't seem to woo the voters, as it was leading on only 6 seats. The Congress party continued to show its dismal performance and was leading on only 4 seats. The Assembly polls for 403 seats spread over 75 districts were held in seven phases between February 10 and March 7. More than 3.75 lakh voters exercised their franchise using ballot papers. The state's Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla said that 84 counting centres had been set up across Uttar Pradesh. In Goa, the <keyword id="43771" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="exit-polls" source="Orion">exit polls</keyword> had tipped a keen contest between the ruling <keyword id="14666" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bjp" source="Orion">BJP</keyword> and the Congress and Goa Forward alliance, with neither being able to reach the magic figure of 21 in a 40-member state Assembly. However, the trends showed the grand-old party -- Congress -- ahead of its arch-rival BJP while the much-hyped AAP, as per the early trends, didn't seem to impress the electorate at all as it was not leading on any seat. Nearly 79 per cent voters cast ballots in the February 14 polls in Goa. In Punjab, the multi-cornered electoral battle is probably heading for a comfortable victory for the AAP as the early trends gave an edge to the Bhagwant Mann-led party over the ruling Congress. The Shiromani Akali Dal was coming as the third party. The exit polls had predicted a landslide victory for the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab. A total of 1,304 candidates, including 93 women and two transgenders, are in the fray. The state recorded a voter turnout of 71.95 per cent, the lowest percentage compared to the voting percentage in three previous Assembly polls. In Manipur, as per the early trends, the saffron party is heading for a landslide victory. According to the election officials, around 89.3 per cent of the 20,48,169-strong electorate cast their votes in the two-phase election to the 60-member Manipur Assembly on February 28 and March 5. This year's voting percentage was higher than the 2017 and 2012 Assembly elections, when 86.4 per cent and 79.5 per cent electorate had exercised their franchise respectively. In Uttarakhand, even as the BJP is leading in the early trends, it is still hard to predict the results as the Congress party is not much behind. The new-entrant AAP, like Goa, has failed to make any impact on the voters so far. Lalu Yadav’s RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) faced the 2019 elections as part of the Grand Alliance consisting of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP), Congress (INR), Vikashil Insan Party (VIP), and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) of Jitan Ram Manjhi. Their main opponent is the NDA alliance consisting of the BJP, JD (U) and LJP. In the 2014 general elections for the Lok Sabha, the RJD-Congress-NC alliance secured only 6 seats out of 40. The BJP-led NDA scored 31 out of 40 Lok Sabha seats leaving Lalu’s RJD with 4 seats, the JD (U) with 2 seats and NCP with just 1 seat. The Lok Sabha 2019 election will be a crucial phase in the history of Bihar politics and especially for the RJD since Lalu Prasad Yadav is now promoting his son Tejaswi Yadav. In 2009, he joined the Congress party once again. There were rumors that he might join the BJP in 2014 and also in 2019. The Lok Sabha elections 2019 is the first time the two major parties in the state of Tamil Nadu namely DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) and AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) go for Lok Sabha polls without their iconic leaders Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha. In 2014 elections, the AIADMK scored 37 out of 39 Lok Sabha seats. The overwhelming performance of the party was a talk of the country since the party emerged as one of the largest parties in the Lok Sabha in opposition. The national party of Congress had secured only 44 seats in total all over the nation, which was just 7 seats more than those scored by the AIADMK, which contested only from Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha constituencies. In 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the AIADMK has scored 9 parliamentary seats from the state. Before the party got a thumping victory in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, it showed a poor performance over the Lok Sabha elections 1999, 2004 and 2009. The AIADMK split into two after the demise of its heroic leader Jayalalithaa. In 2019, the party is contesting the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with the national party BJP, and other regional parties like PMK and DMDK. After a series of twists and turns in the history of AIADMK in Tamil Nadu after the death of Jayalalitha, K Palaniswami of the party was elected as the general secretary and hence became the CM. The main opponent for the party in Tamil Nadu is DMK. The other two parties in the fray in Lok Sabha elections 2019 are AMMK of TTV Dhinkaran and MNM of Kamal Haasan.
