Jerry, a true trickster, delights in setting Tom up to bear the consequences of chaos caused by him, often with a wink at the audience to let them know they’re in on the joke too. Even today, the 82-year-old duo Tom and Jerry connects with its viewers on an emotional level and reaches out to the inner child in us that lived in a happier universe. Last year, when the COVID cases plummeted and the theatres were open during the festive season, ‘Tom &amp; Jerry: The Movie’ was released in India after a lot of contemplation. However, it outperformed at the box office, grossing nearly Rs 8 crore in terms of ticket sales, and was amongst the top-performing Hollywood family film/animation film in India in 2021. It was released across 1,000 screens in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It was only in 1995 that the channel Cartoon Network made its entry in India with dual feed. Cartoon Network operated from 5:30 am to 5:30 pm and Turner Classic Movies took up the remaining schedule. In a conversation with IANS, Dutta said the pandemic has given a push to diversify the business and fully utilise available resources. "We have forayed into new segments such as packaged F&amp;B (PVR popcorn) and now 'V-Pristine'. The pandemic gave us time and the necessity to plan for these new ventures," he said. "There are other new initiatives as well that we plan to launch in the near future. These new products will cater to the growing demand for differentiated and specialised services like 'V-Pristine'." Recently, PVR forayed into customised cleaning and disinfecting solutions for commercial and residential segments under its new business vertical 'V-Pristine'. COVID-19 pandemic accelerates PVR's business diversification, says PVR's Chief Executive

Besides, the airline believes that economic rebound, weaning impact of Covid 2.0 and accelerated vaccination drive will further complement the traffic growth. Though it has recovered to 1,100 now, we are still below the pre-Coid level." In terms of capacity utilisation norms, Dutta said the company is in touch with the Centre to get 100 per cent domestic capacity soon. "I think, we will get 100 per cent soon and even the permission to re-start international operations." "By July of next year we should have recovered to pre-Covid levels internationally as well." At present, the Centre has allowed airlines to deploy limited domestic operational capacity up to 85 per cent. Furthermore, he said that pent-up demand has now become more sustained and predictable which is expect to drive growth. "Last year there were no flights for a period, as a result there was a huge pent up demand, but that's slowly petered out." "Now, I don't think this is pent up demand, but a gradual increase in demand." On the pandemic's progression, Dutta cited the current conditions are stable but cautioned against an element of uncertainty surrounding new variants. "If you look around the world, this Delta variant has clearly created a havoc in many countries. In someways, we are ahead of everyone else because we were hit first. So the havoc that they are seeing in other countries, we already experienced that in May. So to some extent, I think it is behind us." "For now things look reasonably stable." Currently, the company has a fleet of over 270 aircraft. It operates around 1,100 flights per day connecting 70 domestic and 24 international destinations. IndiGo bullish on festive season, may see demand reach pre-COVID levels in December

InterGlobe Aviation, parent of the country's largest airline <keyword id="6354706" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IndiGo">IndiGo</keyword>, on Tuesday reported a net loss of Rs 3,174 crore for the three months to June, primarily due to a sharp <keyword id="6354942" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="decline">decline</keyword> in revenues amid the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.The airline, which had a fleet of 277 planes at the end of June 2021, incurred a net loss of Rs 2,844 crore in the year-ago period. The carrier's consolidated total income increased by 177.2 per cent to Rs 3,170 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal, it said in a statement. The total income stood at Rs 1,143 crore in the first quarter of the previous financial year. The airline's total expenses increased by 59.2 per cent to Rs 6,344 crore in Q1 of 2021-22, compared to Rs 3,986 crore earlier. The company's CEO <keyword id="7255265" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ronojoy-Dutta">Ronojoy Dutta</keyword> said, "Our financial results for the first quarter were severely impacted by the second Covid wave. The number of passengers traveling declined sharply in the months of May and June." With the second wave receding, IndiGo is seeing a measured recovery in bookings for July and August, he added. "Notwithstanding the industry's present challenges, we remain firmly optimistic about IndiGo's future. Our entire focus during this pandemic has been to manage our cash balances, run a high- quality airline and to continue to build our capabilities and be prepared for the post Covid environment," he stated. The carrier had reported a net loss of Rs 1,147 crore in the last quarter of 2020-21. The airline operated a peak of 1,262 daily flights and a minimum of 318 flights during the first quarter of FY22, including non-scheduled flights, the statement said. IndiGo's loss widens to ₹3,174 crore as number of passengers 'declined sharply' in May and June

<ul><li>For the last few years, <keyword id="193300" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cartoon-Network">Cartoon Network</keyword> and <keyword id="10822" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pogo">POGO</keyword> have focused on coming up with local animation shows that have steadily been witnessing an increase in viewership.</li><li>As the channel gets ready to launch another made-in-India show called‘Ekans - Ek Se Badhkar Snake’, we catch up with <keyword id="108258" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Abhishek-Dutta">Abhishek Dutta</keyword>, South Asia Network Head for Cartoon Network and POGO, to understand the impact the pandemic has had on the channel, its content strategy and the launch of its new superhero indigenous show.</li></ul>Ever since the government announced the lockdown in March last year, people have been stuck at home. It has changed the way we live, work, study, consume content and shop. The lockdown has also meant people are now spending more time at home, consuming content on different platforms. Television viewership has gained massively. Viewership in the kids’ genre too has seen an obvious uptick, with children being stuck at home. Data from Broadcast Audience Research Council (<keyword id="65298" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BARC">BARC</keyword>) India earlier this year had revealed that the viewership of kids’ genre had increased by 20% during the pandemic. Non primetime kids viewing grew by 31% during the peak lockdown in 2020 compared to 2019. This spike in viewership has also led to channels in the genre to up their content game. We recently caught up with Abhishek Dutta, South Asia Network Head for Cartoon Network and POGO, to understand the impact the pandemic has had on the channel, its content strategy and the launch of its new superhero indigenous show. The pandemic effect While a lot of other traditional medium struggled, people being stuck at home worked in favor of TV, and the kids’ genre gained from this too. While advertising spends did suffer in the initial months, things started turning in the later half of the year, specially during the festive season. On how it has been for Cartoon Network and POGO, Dutta said, “Both 2020 and 2021 have been favorable for us. We have launched two local IPs for the kids this summer. Now we are going to launch ‘Ekans - Ek Se Badhkar Snake’ which is India’s newest, homegrown tech-savvy superhero. Cartoon Network and Pogo are the only network channels in the kids category that have executed six new local shows during the pandemic in India. Covid has had an obvious impact on our business. The second wave has also come with its own challenges but we are seeing growth coming back and hopefully we'll have a better second half. In 2021, the kids genre has registered growth and the months of January to April also witnessed an upside in ad spends, when compared to 2020. The importance of local IPs <keyword id="1617156" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Localization">Localization</keyword> has been a critical part of both the channel’s growth in India. The new show, ‘Ekans - Ek Se Badhkar Snake’, created in-house and produced by Kolkata-based studio Hi-Tech Animation, joins the existing portfolio of popular homegrown IPs by WarnerMedia India including ‘Dabangg - The Animated Series’ on Cartoon Network; ‘Titoo – Har Jawaab Ka Sawaal Hu’ and ‘Smashing Simmba’ on the companion channel POGO. Meanwhile, the effort has also been to create content that is relevant globally too. “Today, kids demand content that is fresh, unique, local and something that resonates with them. They don’t just seek entertaining and engaging content, relatability is one of the most important factors in kids viewership today. Which is why we are confident about our new show which has all the elements that kids today are looking for, its about a superhero and the show combines mystical elements and India's heritage while adding elements of science fiction. All these aspects make it an interesting storyline. We believe the underlying impact of the show will also be to let kids know that it is acceptable to have fears and conquer them as well. Our message through the show is, every child is a superhero in their own way.” Dutta also shared that there has been a steady increase in the viewership of made-in-India content because there is a lot of choice today. “Out of the top 10 shows in the category today, seven are locally produced shows. When you see the top 20 shows in the category, 15 are locally-produced. So there is a visible appetite for local content amongst kids today.” On the growth path Throwing light on a few things that he believes will help the channels grow further, Dutta added, “Cartoon Network has a historic, rich legacy in the kids and family space owing to vibrant shows that are loved across the globe. With the launch of a Ekans, Cartoon Network will further consolidate its leadership position as the country's pioneer and most-loved animation channel. While viewership has grown, increasingly we are witnessing demand for content that can be enjoyed as family, but that is also fresh, relevant, localized and compelling. We have already taken the lead in delivering homegrown content that resonates with this trend and we’ll continue to both acquire and create our own unique and relatable homegrown content that offers a local flavor through authentic voices, India-centric characters, and regional language features. Last year, in addition to shows like ‘Titoo – Har Jawaab Ka Sawaal Hu’ on POGO, we received an enthusiastic response to the localized thought over commentaries to our iconic global favorite the Tom and Jerry show in regional languages. Apart from this, Lamput, Cartoon Network's critically acclaimed short- form animation has continued to win hearts of the global audiences. It’s a non-dialogue chase slapstick comedy which won the Best Children's program at Asian Creative Academy Awards 2020 for the third time in a row, it was also nominated for an international kids Emmy Award, which is a first for any <keyword id="1089180" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-animation">Indian animation</keyword>.” Cartoon Network will launch its new show, 'Ekans – Ek Se Badhkar Snake' on Sunday June 27, and thereafter air from Monday to Friday, at 11:30am and 7:30pm on Cartoon Network.

Here’s why Cartoon Network continues to focus on localization

New Delhi, Jan 27 () InterGlobe Aviation, parent of the country's largest airline IndiGo, on Monday announced redesignating Ronojoy Dutta as the company's whole-time director and CEO.
 Dutta, who is currently the CEO, has been redesignated with immediate effect and his term in the new role would be valid till January 23, 2024, according to a release.
 "The decision was taken unanimously by the board of directors of the company at its meeting held today (Monday)," it added.
 Dutta has been associated with the company as CEO since January 24, 2019.
 "During his year-long stint with the company, IndiGo has witnessed aggressive operational and business expansion.
 "Dutta's extensive experience in the aviation industry channelled IndiGo's efforts into a mission to boost economic growth and social cohesion in India, by providing air connectivity and affordable air fares across our country and to international destinations, thereby promoting trade, tourism and mobility," the release said.
 He had also served as an advisor to the restructuring of Air Canada, US Airways and Hawaiian Air. Besides, he had been the president of Air Sahara and the United Airlines.

IndiGo redesignates Ronojoy Dutta as whole-time director & CEO

<ul><li>The Delhi High Court on Wednesday observed that <keyword id="6411073" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="final-year-students">final year students</keyword> of the Delhi University "are not thoroughly prepared" to participate in the online open book examination (OBE) proposed by the varsity.</li><li>The data revealed that as against 1,83,376 students who had registered to participate in the OBE in the first phase, 1,86,814 students had registered themselves in the second phase.</li></ul> The Delhi High Court on Wednesday observed that final year students of the Delhi University "are not thoroughly prepared" to participate in the online open book examination (OBE) proposed by the varsity. "This is a clear indication that the final year students are not thoroughly prepared to participate in the online OBE that <keyword id="6562291" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-University-of-Delhi">the University of Delhi</keyword> has proposed to conduct," a division bench of Justices <keyword id="602661" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hima-Kohli">Hima Kohli</keyword> and Subramonium Prasad observed after comparing the data relating to the first and second phase of mock tests that were conducted by the varsity. The data revealed that as against 1,83,376 students who had registered to participate in the OBE in the first phase, 1,86,814 students had registered themselves in the second phase. However, the total number of the students who had logged in during the first phase were 93,185 whereas only 75,593 had logged in the second phase. The total number of papers attempted by the students in the first phase were 60,181 whereas, in the second phase, the total number of papers attempted were 51,176. The data also revealed that the total number of papers submitted in the first phase were 33,162 whereas, in the second phase, the total number of papers submitted were 23,693. After seeing the data, the bench said: "Even for the PWD (person with disability) category students and VH (visually handicapped) students, the data of the second phase of the mock test is no better than that of the first phase, if not worse." The observations were made while the bench was hearing a plea filed by Prateek Sharma, a physically disabled student, highlighting the difficulties that will be faced by disabled students in taking the online exam. The court also granted 10 days time to the varsity to file an affidavit clarifying its position along with the exact date by which the results of the final year students who propose to sit in the online open book examination will be declared. "It shall also be stated as to how many students had actually logged in to participate in the online OBE and the assessment of the number of students who will take the examination physically at a later date, to be indicated by the University," the bench said while slating the matter for further hearing on August 17. Meanwhile, a separate bench of Justice Prathiba M. Singh reserved orders on a batch of pleas challenging the DU's decision to conduct online OBE for final year students. During the hearing, the DU submitted that the OBE were the best option to check the student's knowledge in keeping with the UGC's guidelines while adhering to the restrictions thrown by the global pandemic. "The idea behind OBE was to prevent students from assembling in one hall as it would be difficult to maintain social distancing during the pandemic situation. There were detailed deliberations," senior advocate <keyword id="2985428" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sachin-Dutta">Sachin Dutta</keyword>, representing the DU, said. He further told the court that a student does not need very high technology to sit for online OBE as having an email will be sufficient and that connectivity issues will be far more in other modes. While the hearing was underway, with a lot of students too present, music suddenly started playing in the background, following which Justice Singh said: "I don't know what they are celebrating." Initially, the varsity had announced that the online OBE would commence from July 1, which was later postponed by the varsity to July 10 and again, the institution has now postponed the same till August 15, without giving a specific date as to when it would take place. Delhi University students 'not thoroughly prepared' for open book exams: HC

The <keyword id="36730" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Police">Mumbai Police</keyword> have filed a closure report in the #MeToo case by actress <keyword id="16193" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tanushree-Dutta">Tanushree Dutta</keyword> against Bollywood star <keyword id="6361516" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="nana-patekar">Nana Patekar</keyword> — that triggered a #MeToo movement in India making numerous women coming forward to report sexual harassment cases in the country. "Yes, we have filed a B-Summary Report before the court," Mumbai Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjunath Shinge told IANS. A B-Summary report is filed when the investigation can’t be continued due to lack of evidence to support the case. Tanushree Dutta, as per her lawyer Nitin Satpute, is going to challenge the move by Mumbai police. "If the police file any B or C classification of Summary Report, that cannot be final. We shall oppose it before the court. After hearing, if the court is satisfied, then it can again direct the police to re-investigate," Satpute said. Tanushree Dutta lodged an FIR against Nana Patekar in September 2018 alleging that he sexually harassed her during a film shoot in 2008.
