<br /> The company, which was founded in 2000, expects that its consumer <keyword id="4245827" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="durable-products">durable products</keyword> would make up about a fourth of its total revenue over the coming three years, with products ranging from washing machines to new range of air conditioners and televisions.<br />
<br /> It was in 2013 that <keyword id="71696" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Micromax">Micromax</keyword> had ventured into consumer durables, prior to which it only dealt in mobiles.<br />
<br />
With a huge budget kept aside, the company aims to join the leaders of air conditioner market, regardless of the stiff competition.<br />

<br /> "Our strategy of connected devices under the broader view of being a consumer electronics company will take a step up with new air conditioner models and then with washing machines," <keyword id="1071660" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rohan-Agarwal">Rohan Agarwal</keyword>, VP (<keyword id="4245821" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="consumer-electronics-business">Consumer Electronics Business</keyword>) told ET. "We will invest abut '200 crore every year to build the channel and service," he added.<br />
<br />
One aspect in which the company aims to differ from its rivals is the after sales service, for which it has introduced the Micromax Home Assist application. It allows its AC and TV consumers get after sales service from over 400 centres spread across the country.<br />
<br />
In the coming three years, the company has plans of getting 60 to 65% of its business from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Micromax-unveils-new-logo-with-15-new-smartphones/articleshow/51811617.cms">mobile phones</a>, 25% from consumer durables and the remaining from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Micromax-is-now-eyeing-Africa-Middle-East-CIS-as-part-of-global-expansion/articleshow/50853137.cms">international markets</a> such as Russia, where it has plans to launch its LED televisions.<br />

The Russian market has already accepted the brand and Micromax is among its top three smartphone players.<br />

<p>The European industry took a tumble in March, failing to register any recovery, and continuing a slump that began in February.</p><p><a href="http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/news/news-releases">According to the latest data released by Eurostat</a>, the European statistical authority, industrial production across the single currency area fell by 0.8% in March. That was the same number as in February, but well below the consensus of economists, who saw a reading of 0.0% as most likely.</p><p>Here's how that looks as part of the long-term trend:</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Eurostat</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>On a year-to-year basis, industrial production grew by 0.2% against a consensus estimate of 1.1%, and down from 0.8% growth last month.</p><p>Individually, the countries in Europe where production struggled the most in March were Ireland, Malta, Estonia, and Greece. Production in those economies fell 10.6%, 5.4%, 4.8%, and 4.1% respectively.</p><p>On a sector-to-sector basis, so-called non-durable consumer goods - <span>cosmetics and cleaning products, food, fuel, beer, cigarettes, and medication - were the worst performing, dropping 1.9%. </span></p><p><span>According to Eurostat, the fall in industrial production "is due to production of non-durable consumer goods falling by 1.9%, capital goods by 1.1%, intermediate goods by 0.8% and durable consumer goods by 0.4%, while production of energy rose by 2.0%."</span></p><p>Eurostat's figures come just a week after a horrible set of <span><keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword> manufacturing data. <p style="padding-left: 30px;">Industrial production increased 0.3 percent in December after having risen 1.0 percent in November when production rebounded in the industries that had been negatively affected by Hurricane Sandy in late October. For the fourth quarter as a whole, total industrial production moved up at an annual rate of 1.0 percent.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Manufacturing output advanced 0.8 percent in December following a gain of 1.3 percent in November; production edged up at an annual rate of 0.2 percent in the fourth quarter. The output at mines rose 0.6 percent in December, and the output of utilities fell 4.8 percent as unseasonably warm weather held down the demand for heating. At 98.1 percent of its 2007 average, total industrial production in December was 2.2 percent above its year-earlier level. Capacity utilization for total industry moved up 0.1 percentage point to 78.8 percent, a rate 1.5 percentage points below its long-run (1972–2011) average.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Market Groups<br /><br />The production of consumer goods edged down 0.1 percent in December and declined at an annual rate of 0.9 percent in the fourth quarter. The output of durable consumer goods increased 1.2 percent in December, as gains in automotive products and in home electronics more than offset declines in the indexes for appliances, furniture, and carpeting and for miscellaneous durable goods. The output of nondurable consumer goods decreased 0.5 percent in December. The decline was concentrated in the production of consumer energy products, which fell 4.4 percent. Among non-energy nondurables, output increased in all major categories, with gains of more than 1 percent in the indexes for clothing, for chemical products, and for paper products.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">The output of business equipment moved up 1.3 percent in December following a rise of 2.0 percent in November, but it was little changed for the fourth quarter as a whole. All major categories of business equipment advanced in December. For the fourth quarter, the production of transit equipment moved up at an annual rate of 6.5 percent. The indexes both for information processing equipment and for industrial and other equipment decreased at an annual rate of 2.3 percent in the fourth quarter.</p>

US INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION UNEXPECTEDLY CONTRACTS IN JANUARY

Bhopal, Feb 19 () Growth of consumer durables segment is expected to pick up in the last quarter taking the sector's expansion in 2019-20 to 15 per cent, an industry official said on Wednesday. <p>The expert also said that the economic slowdown has not affected the sector, which grew by 10 per cent in the first three quarters of 2019-20, as people continue to spend on consumer products like ACs, refrigerators, washing machines and other appliances. </p><p>The last quarter would be much better than first three, so overall growth in the current fiscal year is expected to be over 15 per cent, Sanjeev Jain, National Sales Head, Godrej Appliances, told reporters here. The sector has grown at around 10 per cent in the current financial year, he added.</p><p>Asked about the effect of economic slowdown, Jain saidthat this has not affected the sector because people are spending on their needs of consumer products. </p><p>Talking about the growth in the next five years, he said the consumer durable sector is expected to double the market size to Rs 1 lakh crore by 2025.</p>"It is expected that the size of the consumer durable sector would be doubled to over Rs 1 lakh crore from present around Rs 55,000-crore because of growing needs of products in the day-to-day life of the people," Jain said.    On the occasion, Godrej launched a new range of air-coolers in MP.    Jain said that the organised sector has only 40 per cent share in the air-cooler market in the country, which involves the sale of one-core units. Consumer durables growth to pick in last quarter of FY20, says official

	The war between online and offline retailers may be age-old. And this war between them is peaking new levels as time passes. But are they really foes or are they the two sides of the same coin, who will soon become indispensible for each other.<br />
	<br /> “Offline retailers demanding a total clampdown of online sales is not a new phenomenon. Globally, if you look at the evolution of offline retailers, we realise that their evolution has largely happened due to online retail. What has happened is that all <keyword id="695226" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Online-retailers">online retailers</keyword> are moving towards a marketplace model,” said Mohit Bahl, partner and head of retail advisory at <keyword id="50041" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="KPMG">KPMG</keyword>.<br />

	He explained that since most of these websites may turn into marketplaces, dependence on offline retailers is bound to go up. “Consider this if you place an order on Flipkart, then it is not Flipkart that is selling you goods but offline retailers that are registered on the website. So, I think offline retailers will continue to have a lot of business but they may have to change their business model,” noted Bahl.<br />
	<br /> Earlier this month, offline retailers had asked consumer durable majors to clampdown on the online sale of their products. The demand has forced consumer durable majors such as <keyword id="6354248" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Videocon">Videocon</keyword> and <keyword id="6356116" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="LG">LG</keyword> India to withdraw warranties on their products that are sold online in their bid to boost their offline sale of their products. These companies also announced that consumers will have to pay for the after sale services as well.<br />

	“I believe that whatever decisions both online retailers and consumer durable majors take today are not really taken with much consideration. They are not really well-evaluated decision but are rather reactions to whatever is happening around,” Bahl asserted.  However, he expects that soon both parties will find the right water level soon. <br />

The extension of <keyword id="53367" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="pli" source="Orion">PLI</keyword> benefits for <keyword id="6369091" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="consumer-durables" source="Orion">consumer durables</keyword> companies and increase in customs duty if any in the Union <keyword id="10547300" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="budget-2022" source="Orion">Budget 2022</keyword> will drive domestic manufacturing.<br /><br />While the PLI scheme commenced from FY22, some companies have not yet been able to complete the required capex and drive growth due to Covid waves in FY22. Hence, we endorse the belief that extension of PLI benefits by 1-2 years will be positive to industry, <keyword id="46909" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="icici-securities" source="Orion">ICICI Securities</keyword> said in a report on the white goods sector.<br /><br />Increase in customs duty on certain inputs may increase India production. Any additional levy on imports of raw materials may lead to increase in domestic production. It will be beneficial to manufacturing companies such as Dixon and Amber. However, we believe, it may disrupt the production of finished goods in the short term and may raise costs for the companies, the report said.<br /><br />Any increase in sops on wind and solar power generation will reduce the power costs for most companies in the sector. We note power costs amount to 2-3 per cent of net sales of these companies. However, manufacturers such as Amber and Dixon may stand to benefit more.<br /><br />Tax cuts if any and higher disposable incomes to boost consumption, the report said. We believe initiatives to boost disposable incomes via tax cuts or higher government spending will result in higher demand for consumer durables. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Sean Gallup/Getty Images</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>Durable goods climbed more than expected in June.</p><p>Headline orders rose 3.4%, while orders excluding transportation and defense orders rose 0.8%.</p><p>Economists had estimated that headline durable goods orders rose 3.2% in June month-over-month, and climbed 0.5% excluding transportation and defense orders, according to Bloomberg.</p><p>In May, headline durable goods orders fell 1.8%, more than expected. "Core" orders, which exclude the more volatile components, rose 0.4% to slightly beat expectations.</p><p>In a preview of the economic data this week, Wells Fargo's John Silvia wrote: <span>"New orders for durable goods have been tepid over the first half of the year as a strong dollar has weighed on exports and low oil prices have sapped demand for products related to energy investment. Part of the softness has also been due to weakness in aircraft orders, but orders for nondefense capital goods ex-aircraft also have fallen in four out of the past five months and are 2.1 percent lower than a year earlier."</span></p><p><span>"We expect to see some modest bounce-back in durable goods orders for June. Boeing has already reported a jump in aircraft orders for the month, but orders outside of the transportation sector are also likely to have improved."</span></p><p><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/durable-goods-orders-july-27-2015-7">We'll be back with the details once they cross.</a></p>

Durable goods orders beat expectations

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Stephen Brashear/Getty</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>The Department of Commerce will release its advance report on durable goods orders during August at 8:30 a.m. ET.</p><p>Economists forecast that orders for things designed to last for long fell 1.5% during the month, according to Bloomberg. Orders excluding the volatile transportation category are estimated to drop 0.5%. </p><p>Orders for capital goods for nondefense items excluding aircraft, or so-called core durable goods, are estimated to drop 0.1%. Shipments in this category are forecast at 0.1%.</p><p>With the exception of shipments, these estimates reflect the expectation for a drop in durable goods production in August, although the prior month's data are subject to revision. </p><p>After a strong July, with durable goods orders up 4.4%, there's some expected pullback. </p><p>Additionally, the headline change in orders could be dragged down by the transportation category. Recent data from Boeing showed that its orders trended downwards in the last few months.
