TRAI recently released its new <a href="https://www.bgr.in/how-to/trai-new-rules-dth-operators-february-1-dish-tv-select-channels-base-plan-a-la-carte-free-to-air-channel-selector/">guidelines</a> regarding the broadcasting and pricing over DTH and Cable TV services. All the DTH companies including Dish TV, Tata Sky, and Airtel Digital TV have already announced the different channel packs they have got on offer. Dish TV has pre-selected its customers’ channel packages as per their old plan and has moved them automatically to the new packages. However, if you are working with other operators, you will need to select your TV channel preferences on your cable service provider platform to avail of the new tariff. As part of its momentous announcement, TRAI had issued strict guidelines to the broadcasters to streamline the selection and pricing options of the cable or DTH channels. The move is intended to let the consumers avail of the cable and DTH services at a minimal cost without having to waste money on paying for the channels they never use. The new regulations brought in by TRAI lets the customers pay only for those channels they want to watch. TRAI has released a Channel Selector App that will let the customer know the estimate of the subscription charges meant for the channels they have selected. Similar to how it works with other DTH service providers, the consumers of Dish TV can also do the channel selection in three ways. The first way is to call the Dish TV customer care. The second route is to make use of the My DishTV app to do the channel selection. The third way is to visit Dishtv.in website and choose the channels you want using your login credentials. Here is a step by step procedure to choosing the channels on DishTV on the company’s dedicated website. Step One Visit the DishTV website. Go to ‘Subscriber Corner’ that you will find on the top right corner of the website. You can also land on the Subscriber Corner by clicking on the banner ad that has notified “Register your choice as per TRAI’s new mandate.” Step Two The Subscriber Corner page will prompt you to log in. You can do this either by using your VC number or registered ten digit mobile number. Also, you can choose to give your password or log in using OTP. Step Three Once you have logged in, the account page on Dish TV’s page will show up the selection page by default arrangement. In case it does not open itself, you can open it by clicking on ‘Packs &amp; Channels’. Step Four On the ‘Packs &amp; Channels’ page you will see ‘Select Your Zone’ option that will cover the regional bouquet of channels DishTV offers. This will be based on languages of the North and South regions. Step Five After you have selected your zone, you will see the list and details of Dish Combo packs, Add-Ons, Channels, and Bouquets. Based on your preferences you can add them to your cart and checkout. In the five simple steps given above, you will have created your own unique channel package based on your viewing preferences. Now you can enjoy the benefits of revised pricing as per the new TRAI regulations.

Step-by-step guide to select channels under India’s new cable TV

New Delhi, May 30 () Yes Bank said it has acquired over 24 per cent stake in Dish TV India following invocation of pledged shares due to debt default by the DTH service provider and other group firms. Yes Bank Limited, pursuant to invocation of pledged shares, has acquired 44,53,48,990 equity shares of Dish TV India Limited constituting approximately 24.19 per cent of the post-issue paid-up share capital as at March 31, 2020, it said in a regulatory filing. Shares were acquired on invocation of pledge subsequent to default/breach of terms of loan to Dish TV India Limited, it said. Further, Yes Bank said there was default/breach of terms of credit facilities sanctioned by it to Essel Business Excellence Services, Essel Corporate Resources, Living Entertainment Enterprises, Last Mile Online, Pan India Network Infravest, RPW Projects Private, Mumbai WTR and Pan India Infraprojects. Yes Bank acquires 24 pc stake in Dish TV post invocation of pledged shares

NewSpace India Limited (<keyword id="7835598" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nsil" source="Orion">NSIL</keyword>) launched GSAT-24 in its first "demand-driven" communication satellite mission post space sector reforms, leasing the entire capacity on board to Direct-to-Home (DTH) service provider <keyword id="13033014" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-play" source="Orion">Tata Play</keyword>. Built by Indian Space Research Organisation for NSIL, the satellite was successfully placed into geostationary orbit by the Ariane 5 rocket, operated by French company Arianespace, from Kourou in French Guiana (South America) on Thursday. GSAT-24 is a 24-Ku band communication satellite weighing 4180 kg with pan-India coverage for meeting DTH application needs. NSIL, incorporated in March 2019, is a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE), under Department of Space (DOS) and is the commercial arm of ISRO. As part of "space reforms" announced by the Government in June 2020, NSIL was mandated to undertake operational satellite missions on a "demand driven" model, wherein it has the responsibility to build, launch, own &amp; operate satellites and provide services to its committed customer. The entire satellite capacity on-board GSAT-24 will be leased to its committed customer Tata Play, the DTH business of Tata Group, for meeting their DTH application needs. The Ariane 5 has successfully placed two satellites into geostationary orbit: MEASAT-3d for the Malaysian operator MEASAT, and GSAT-24, Arianespace said after launching them on-board Ariane-V VA257 flight from the Guiana Space Centre, Europe's spaceport in Kourou. GSAT-24 is configured on ISRO's proven I-3k Bus with a mission life of 15 years. "'Demand-driven' mode basically means when a satellite is launched, one will know who the end customers are going to be and what's the kind of utilisation and commitment so that you have very effective utilisation of this satellite capacity once it goes into orbit", an NSIL official explained. "Earlier, the mode was more supply driven, with capacity being leased after the launch with largely no firm commitment by customers before hand", the official noted. "The entire mission is fully funded by NSIL -- satellite, launch, launch campaign, insurance, transportation, in-orbit maintenance and support. Once the satellite is up in orbit, this will be fully owned and operated by NSIL," NSIL Chairman and Managing Director Radhakrishnan Durairaj told PTI. "So, we will be the satellite operator for this particular satellite," he said. Airtel partners with Aakash Institute to bring medical and engineering education content to its DTH platform

Since 2014, the DTH category has begun focusing on small towns and villages in India, and these are markets where the demand for bite-size consumption exists. <keyword id="94550" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Sky">Tata Sky</keyword>, a DTH service provider in India has introduced the 'Daily Recharge,' voucher empowering subscribers to pay only for the days they watched TV. Dish TV shares hit the 20% upper circuit a week after lenders sell over 5 crore shares in the open market

New Delhi, Jun 5 () Yes Bank on Friday clarified that it invoked pledged shares of direct-to-home (DTH) company Dish TV last month due to payment defaults by various Essel Group companies. Yes Bank on May 29 announced that it has acquired 24.19 per cent stake (44,53,48,990 equity shares) in Dish TV India following invocation of pledged shares due to debt default by the DTH service provider and other group firms. However on June 1, Dish TV issued a clarification via exchange filing stating that Yes Bank was incorrect in saying that it had acquired Dish TV shares on invocation of pledged shares subsequent to default/breach of terms of loans to the company. "At the outset,...Dish TV India Ltd is not in default of any payment obligations to Yes Bank under the financing facility availed from Yes Bank," Dish TV said. Yes Bank in a filing on Friday stated that its disclosure on May 29 clearly mentioned that the pledge has been invoked due to default/ breach by various Essel Group companies. Clarifying about particulars in a section of May 29 filing that stated invocation of pledge subsequent to default/breach of terms of loan to Dish TV India, Yes Bank said it was an inadvertent mistake, rather it were Essel group companies that were in default of loans. The DTH operator had also said that Yes Bank's statement that no government or regulatory approval was applicale for invocation of pledged shares was "factually incorrect". Yes Bank replied that it was in compliance with the regulations (save and except the inadvertent error that acquisition of shares happened because of Dish TV's default of loans) and pursuant to exercise of rights granted to it under a valid contract. Yes Bank shares closed 3.04 per cent up at Rs 28.80 apiece on BSE. Dish TV closed 4.83 per cent higher at Rs 4.83 apiece. The lender said it would like to clarify that due to persistent breach and defaults by various Essel Group companies, the bank vide its letter dated July 24, 2019 had called upon the borrowers and World Crest Advisors LLP and Direct Media Distribution Ventures Private Limited (the Pledgors) to make payment of the outstanding amount due to the Bank. Failing the payment, Yes Bank had said that it would be constrained to invoke the pledged shares (pledge created in favour of the security trustee for the benefit of the bank) and to sell the same to recover the outstanding amounts due to the bank. "As the borrowers and pledgors have failed to repay the outstanding amount due to the bank, the bank was compelled to invoke the pledged shares on May 29, 2020," Yes Bank said. KPM MR MR

Invoked pledged Dish TV shares due to default by Essel Group firms, clarifies Yes Bank

New Delhi, Dec 12 () DTH service provider Dish TV on Thursday said Jawahar Lal Goel has been reappointed its Managing Director till March 31, 2020.
 Goel, who is also the Chairman of the company's board, shall continue to be the Chairman post expiry of his tenure as the Managing Director (MD), Dish TV said in a regulatory filing.
 As per SEBI regulations, top 500 listed entities need to ensure that Chairperson of a company is a non-executive director and is not related to the MD or CEO with effect from April 1, 2020.
 Dish TV said its board at a meeting held Thursday considered and approved re-appointment of Goel as MD for a period from December 17, 2019 to March 31, 2020 (both days included), the date till which he can continue to assume the position of Chairman and MD as per regulations.
 While the board was inclined for re-appointing Goel for a longer term, however, in view of the SEBI regulations it approved his appointment only for the specified period.

How it works: The digi-media technology firm is catering to the B2C segment upfront and it’s just click-and-go for everyday users. However, the real business lies in exploring the B2B segment. For Twitter on TV, the company only needs to tie up with <keyword id="454021" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="dth-service-providers">DTH service providers</keyword> and it will reach their customers in no time. “We don’t require broadcast partners since the service is user-invoked,” explains Amarendra. 
 
Once the tie-up is in place and BrizzTV installs its system, it works in three steps. The firm curates interesting tweets about TV programmes from the Web (based on majority algorithm). Then these tweets are made broadcast-able in a TV network. On the TV side, it overlays these tweets received via broadcast with the TV programmes on viewer opt-in (you can do that by pressing the green button on your remote). 
 Since tweets are converted to broadcast-able format, <keyword id="756327" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="TV-sets">TV sets</keyword> or set-top boxes need not be connected to the Internet for receiving the tweets. “That’s how we are available on all 8.5 million set-top boxes that <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> has in India,” clarifies Amarendra. 
 The market size for Twitter on TV will be the entire country, according to the founders. The start-up is also targeting a chunk of the print ad pie in India, estimated at over $4 billion, by bringing display ads directly to TV via digital platforms. In a way, that’s creating a new market – <keyword id="1939000" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Digital-ads-on-TV">digital ads on TV</keyword>. The firm has already tied up with <keyword id="279704" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airtel-DTH">Airtel DTH</keyword> for all its products in a bid to reach millions of homes across India. 
 
Claim to fame: BrizzTV claims to be the first company to bring contextual tweets directly to a broadcast TV network and that too, in real time. It is also the first company to introduce permission advertising/freemium advertising for pay TV. But the founders believe that the real claim to fame lies in throwing open a market that would get bigger every day. “Imagine our reach with Twitter on TV – 8.5 million homes (over 30 million individuals assuming 4 per family) with just one <keyword id="1840316" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="DTH-operator">DTH operator</keyword>. And it’s on six premium channels for at least 2 hours every day. That kind of reach isn’t available even at large destination websites in India. Our reach and time with users are an unparalleled opportunity,” says Amarendra. 
 
Show me the money: Currently, its revenue model is a mix of <keyword id="1939012" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Product-subscription">product subscription</keyword> (for iExam) and advertisement earnings from Twitter on TV and Freemium Movies. BrizzTV is yet to sell ads on Twitter on TV but for Freemium Movies, it has on-boarded some big clients such as ITC, Nestle and Maruti. However, the company has not reached break-even yet and continues to burn cash on R&amp;D and technology development. 
 The start-up raised an undisclosed amount in Series A from <keyword id="226299" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ojas-Venture-Partners">Ojas Venture Partners</keyword> back in 2011. Prior to that, it had raised a debt grant of Rs 25 lakh from <keyword id="1939005" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nadathur-S-Raghavan-Center">Nadathur S. Raghavan Center</keyword> for Entrepreneurial Learning or <keyword id="226294" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="NSRCEL">NSRCEL</keyword> (a joint set-up of IIM Bangalore and the <keyword id="6623307" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Department-of-Information-Technology">Department of Information Technology</keyword>) where it was incubated. 
 
Biggest challenge: Striking new partnerships with TV service providers. “Until we are able to do that, <keyword id="6354632" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Social-media">social media</keyword> can’t invade every home or occupy the first screen,” feels Amarendra. According to him, BrizzTV’s key competitors will be middleware companies like Cisco, Nagravision and Irdeto. The start-up also anticipates competition from destination websites and smart TV/device players as they try to grab the attention of TV viewers.

	 The company's main focus areas include gold loans, personal loans, vehicle <keyword id="25455" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="finance">finance</keyword> and business loans. Mohanan said the company will steadily increase its presence in South India in the next three years. Indel at present has 71 branches in Kerala and 29 in Tamil Nadu. Its 100th branch was opened in Kottayam district. 

	He said the company offers many cross-selling products like money transfer, payment of utility bills, prepaid mobile recharge and DTH.

Ever since companies such as eBay and Google were founded, consumers have been experiencing the contribution of Internet in their daily lives. 
 Internet has touched almost all the industries and has transformed the world of scarcity to the world of abundance by organising the unorganised resources, delivering them at the right time and at the right price to consumers in need. Multisided Platforms: Platform is an intermediary that facilitates exchange of products and services between two (or more) user groups. A network effect is a phenomenon that makes a platform more valuable when more people use it. 
 
When members in user group on one side get attracted towards members of user group on the other side, the network effect is called cross-sided network effect. For instance, patients (user group on one side) would prefer to go to a hospital (platform) that has more numbers of reputed doctors (user group on other side). When more members join a user group on one side and make that specific side stronger, then the network effect is called same-side network effect. In this case, hospital that has good doctors would be able to attract more good doctors and when more good doctors join a hospital, strength of hospital as a platform increases.

Crowdsourcing: Crowdsourcing can also be seen as outsourcing to crowd. It is a process of getting ideas and work done through a crowd of people instead of full time resources hired for that particular work. For instance, in the famous quiz show, Kaun Banega Crorepati, contestants used to get few lifelines including audience poll. In this lifeline, participants outsource question to audience (crowd) and get their opinions on answers. Similarly, contests such as case study competitions and programming contests organised by corporates in business schools and engineering schools etc. are also the examples of crowdsourcing as students (external crowd) put in efforts to come up with multiple solutions for a given problem.

Orkut, the social networking platform owned by Google was very popular, but Facebook gained more credibility and eventually people switched from Orkut to Facebook. By providing proper user experience, Facebook has been able to retain its users and has been giving tough competition to Google+. Similarly, Google was not the first search engine in the market, but by providing better search results, it became the market leader and with time its competitors moved out of market. <ul><li>Dish TV’s OTT platform Watcho recently surpassed 15 million users.</li><li>We caught up with <keyword id="1187196" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sukhpreet-Singh">Sukhpreet Singh</keyword>, Corporate Head - Marketing, <keyword id="191966" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dish-TV-India">Dish TV India</keyword> &amp; Watcho to understand the platform's goals ahead, plan to retain its users, strategy to stand out in the clutter and vision for 2021. </li></ul>Established Over-the-Top (OTT) players like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ Hotstar are working on expanding their presence in our country through innovative marketing strategies and disruptive content. At the same time, there’s a slew of new OTT players like Lionsgate Play, BookMyShow Stream, BiigBang Amusement, to name a few, that launched after COVID-19 and are trying to find a space for themselves in the highly competitive market and beat content overdose at the same time. Dish TV’s Watcho that came into inception before the lockdown towards the end of 2019, already has an edge over these newly launched platforms as it has surpassed 15 million users piggybacking on its parent company’s popularity and user base in the market. 2020’s lockdown helped the platform accelerate its growth in our country. It was when all activities went virtual, whether it be buying groceries or ordering a paracetamol, the lockdown forced the entire nation towards digitalisation. It opened up an opportunity for the OTT industry to rise to the situation and curate a seamless streaming experience for their consumers as they were quarantined 24x7. Platforms like Watcho did not leave any stone unturned in wooing their consumers. It launched at least one original content piece per month and so far, it has launched over 35+ original shows in Hindi, Kannada, and Telugu. It also tied up with influencers to spread the word. According to Sukhpreet Singh, Corporate Head - Marketing, Dish TV India &amp; Watcho, what sets the <keyword id="10727118" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-ott-platform">new OTT platform</keyword> apart from its competitors is the fact that it is catering to Dish TV’s loyal customer base and trying to position itself as a value addition to its satellite service. Dish TV launched Watcho to progress with changing times and cater to a wider audience. Now, after achieving the 15 million milestone, Watcho is trying to get Dish TV’s user base to spend more time on its platform. It also gives its consumers a platform to express themselves through UGC and aims to establish itself as ‘all things entertainment.’ On why a <keyword id="1489513" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="DTH-platform">DTH platform</keyword> decided to launch an OTT service for its users, Singh said, “At the end of the day, our business is to provide good, wholesome entertainment and video content to our consumers and Dish TV has a very big base of consumers spread over more than 20 million households. So, if you look at the average household size, that could be probably more than 80-90 million customers who are watching us daily. Now, DTH was a new technology and Dish TV introduced DTH in India. But obviously, the technologies change as we go on. So, we still see ourselves in the business of providing video entertainment to our customers. That's what we're going with virtual and hence it's a fairly logical progression.” Before Watcho, Dish TV had launched another online platform called Dish Online to provide live TV shows to its customers on mobile phones. The idea was to provide its customers with an option of watching while on the move or before going to bed. Watcho, on the other hand, is a 360-showcase platform. “Watcho is a very different product, which is aimed at providing primarily good short-form exclusive content to our customers, along with various other options to engage including User Generated Content and apart from that, there is reasonably a go-to the library of other content which is also available, along with more than 100 TV channels. So, Watcho is a very comprehensive platform, which aims to serve all our customers, whatever they prefer to watch. It is watching TV, it could be reading other exclusive entertainment, it could also be uploading their creative videos. So, that's how we kind of progress from your early DTH to providing TV content on the move through Dish online to now having a comprehensive platform, which is across our connected boxes in-home, as well as on mobile,” explained Singh. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Standing out in a cluttered space" text="Standing out in a cluttered space">Standing out in a cluttered space </cmsannotation> While the lockdown proved to be a blessing in disguise for OTT platforms, Singh believes that Watcho would have grown at the same trajectory despite that. Sharing a few factors that helped Watcho stand out, Singh said, “I don't think the growth of what you can do can be attributed to the fact that there was kind of a lockdown, it is more than that. We are different from a regular OTT platform in the sense that we are catering to our consumer base. So, these are people who have already subscribed to the Dish TV, D2H. And then it is also open to other people who are not all subscribers. For our user base, it is a value add. The penetration within our user base is not complete but from here on, we want all our subscribers to regularly consume content on Watcho.” However, it would be a challenge to retain these subscribers and get them to spend more time on the app than on a Netflix or Amazon Prime. So, to stand out, Singh has a four step plan. “One, of course, is to keep on providing good content. Second, is that we are reaching out to a very, sharply defined audience, which is young people and millennials in Tier II, Tier III cities, which is an untapped audience in a way. The kind of content that we have, which is on the shortest form content and we provide people an opportunity to showcase their talent. That is another way that we keep on acquiring new users. And with buyers and alliances, so we have a lot of ASM alliances in the pipeline. So, these are all the pillars: Dish TV’s user base, user base to user-generated content, user base to our exclusive content partners,” shared Singh. Some of the most popular content pieces on Watcho are its short-form stories Jaalsaazi, Sarhad, The jail planand, and It is my pleasure. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Vision for 2021" text="Vision for 2021">Vision for 2021</cmsannotation> Singh’s aim for 2021 is to get Dish TV’s loyal subscribers onto Watcho and add more languages. “Our current platforms like Dish TV and D2H, which now cater to more than 20 million-plus households and multiply that with the number of families, the average family size that it sells could be around 80 Million to 100 Million -- that’s the first addressable universe that we have. so it could be anywhere within that range, depends on how we expand. So far, we have a record number (15 million), we should be adding a few million per month. Apart from that, I think the focus has to be on providing inspirational content and expanding regional languages,” signed off Singh.
