<ul><li>The maiden trial launch of the Nirbhay Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM) was scheduled to take place around 10:30 am today. </li><li>However, the launch was cancelled due to a ‘<keyword id="98490" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="technical-snag">technical snag</keyword>.’</li><li>The upgraded Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile comes with a new short turbofan engine and an advanced radio frequency seeker. </li></ul>After seven successful missile trials in September, India was scheduled to launch one more today — the Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM). However, the launch was cancelled due to a ‘technical snag.’ “The <keyword id="6355142" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DRDO">DRDO</keyword> is analysing all the details,” a source told PTI. The test is happening at a time when India is locked in a stand off against China along the border in Eastern Ladakh. Several Nirbhay missiles have reportedly already been deployed in the region where two Asian giants are disputing over the Line of Actual Control (LAC). A new kind of subsonic cruise missile The ITCM is an upgraded version of the subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay, India's first indigenously developed cruise missile. The new missile has been fitted with advanced software and more indigenous systems — including a short turbofan engine and an advanced radio frequency seeker, according to <a href="https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/odisha/2020/oct/11/india-likely-to-conduct-maiden-test-of-indigenous-technology-cruise-missile-on-october-12-2208832.html">The New Indian Express.</a> The turbofan engine dubbed Manik has been developed by Gas Turbine Research Establishment, while the radio frequency seeker has been produced by the Research Centre Imarat. ITCM Nirbhay missile's maiden launch cancelled due to 'technical snag'

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=+surface-to-surface+cruise+missile+">India's indigenous surface-to-surface cruise missile</a> <keyword id="275196" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nirbhay">Nirbhay</keyword> nose-dived midway after it test fired in Odisha on Friday. The missile failed in its attempt to reach the target for the third time. 
 
The missile was launched from the Chandipur Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Balasore district at 11.38 a.m., according to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Defence+Research+and+Development+Organisation+%28DRDO%29+">Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)</a> sources. 
 
Although the take off was successful amid repeated disruptions of countdown, the missile missed the target after 11 minutes after it was test fired. 
 
The missile had a range of 750-1,000 km. But it nose-dived after covering 128 km in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Bay+of+Bengal">Bay of Bengal</a>. 
 
On March 12, 2013, the missile's first test had also failed as it fell after 20 minutes of flight. The second test on October 17, 2014 was also not up to the mark as it could not maintain a low height. 
 
The cruise missile is expected to supplement the Indo-Russian <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=+surface-to-surface+cruise+missile+">joint venture supersonic cruise missile</a> <keyword id="42900" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="BrahMos">BrahMos</keyword>, which can carry warheads up to 290 km. 
 
The two-stage missile has a length of six metres, a diameter of 0.52 m, a wing span 2.7 m and a launch weight of about 1,500 kg.

Nirbhay, India's indigenous cruise missile fails midway after test fire

India today successfully test-fired its nuclear-capable cruise missile <keyword id="275196" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nirbhay">Nirbhay</keyword>, which means fearless, from the <keyword id="2561552" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Integrated-Missile-Test-Range">Integrated Missile Test Range</keyword> located in <keyword id="58580" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chandipur">Chandipur</keyword>, Odisha. 

	 The state-of-the-art missile, which has been developed by the <keyword id="152819" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Defence-Research-and-Development-Organisation">Defence Research and Development Organisation</keyword> (<keyword id="6355142" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DRDO">DRDO</keyword>), is India's answer to America's Tomahawk and Pakistan's Babur. The launch comes days after <keyword id="2548117" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cyclone-Hudhud">Cyclone Hudhud</keyword> hit the state's coastal region. 

	The Nirbhay is very manoeuvrable and can fly at tree-top level, making it difficult to detect on radar. Notably, the missile strikes targets located more than 700 km away, making India the capable to strike deep into enemy territory.
 

	It is worth noting that once India's own satellite navigation fleet is fully deployed, cruise missiles will start using signals from the country's space system.
 The Nirbhay has a wing and pronounced tail fins unlike other ballistic missiles like the <keyword id="6472480" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Agni">Agni</keyword>. It launches like a missile and in early flight the small wings get deployed. The sub-sonic missile then flies like an aircraft and can even hover near the target. 

	During its first flight on March 12, 2013, the Nirbhay had to be terminated because as it deviated from its course after launch. As the missile went off its flight trajectory, its engine was cut off to bring it down to ensure coastal safety. Then, the Nirbhay fell near the coast and the DRDO said no one was injured.
 

	This missile also gives India the capacity to launch different kinds of payloads at different ranges from various platforms at a very low cost.

India Successfully Test-fires N-capable Cruise Missile Nirbhay

<ul><li>The Defence Research and Development Organisation (<keyword id="6355142" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DRDO">DRDO</keyword>) announced new indigenous drones that will help the Indian Army guard the borders against China in the Eastern Ladakh region. </li><li>In addition to speeding up the purchase of <keyword id="1062453" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rafale-fighter-jets">Rafale fighter jets</keyword> from France, the Indian government also approved $5.55 billion of new arms projects. </li><li>The fund comes with special financial powers to rapidly buy weapons with a ceiling of $71.42 million. </li></ul>Tensions between India and China continue to prevail along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. The longer it trails on, it gives the Indian government an opportunity to upgrade its military technology for border surveillance. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (<a href="https://www.aninews.in/news/national/general-news/indian-army-gets-bharat-drones-for-accurate-surveillance-along-china-border20200721151216/">DRDO</a>) announced that it will be deploying its indigenous drones for surveillance in the region. The delivery of the famed <keyword id="6381048" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="rafale">Rafale</keyword> fighter jets has also expedited on ‘special request’ from New Delhi amid the India-China border row. On July 2, the <a href="https://pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1635916">Defence Acquisition Council</a> approved collection of arms projects worth $5.55 billion. A majority of the share — around $4.44 billion — will be directed towards domestic efforts. Special powers to spend $71.42 million A portion of the funds, around $71 million, comes with special financial powers to rapidly buy up weapons. In short-run, the government has approved the emergency purchase of Excalibur artillery rounds of the M777 ultralight howitzers from the United States. The purchase is presumably to take on China’s new howitzer weapon which it added to its arsenal on the border in June. The short-cannon type weapon is capable of firing projectiles at high trajectories. The weapons are relatively new and only made their public debut during a military parade in Beijing in October 2019. The approval also includes emergency funding for the Igla-S air defence systems from Russia and Spike anti-tank guided missiles from Israel. Long term spending of $5.55 billion Under the new set of projects that have been approved by the council, India will be able to upgrade 59 of its MiG-29 jets in addition to purchasing 21 new ones from Russia for a sum total of $1 billion. <div type="image" title="mig29_edited" msid="77099461" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;MIG 29 jets&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> India also plans to order 12 more Russian-made Su-30MKI fighters from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for a whopping $1.53 billion. The approval also covers indigenous development programs like the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers, an upgrade of the BMP-2 infantry combat vehicles, software-defined radios, Nirbhay land-attack cruise missiles and Astra beyond-visual-range missiles. New drones, Rafale fighter jets, tanks and much more — India-China border dispute has lit a fire to upgrade military technology

The Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile is India's first long-range missile to be built and designed inside the country. India's <keyword id="6354810" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Defense">Defense</keyword> Research and Development Organization (DRDO) claims that the missile launch was a massive success and that the missile will fill a critical role within India's defensive capabilities.
"The missile maintained an accuracy better than 10 metres throughout its path and covered more than 1000 kms," <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/india-test-fires-indigenously-developed-sub-sonic-cruise-missile-nirbhay/articleshow/44845851.cms">said</a> Avinash Chander, the scientific advisor of the DRDO, in a press release after the launch. "The successful indigenous development of the Nirbhay cruise missile will fill a vital gap in the war-fighting capabilities of our armed forces."
According to NDTV, the Nirbhay will <a href="http://www.ndtv.com/article/cheat-sheet/india-s-cruise-missile-nirbhay-10-must-know-facts-608102">function</a> as India's answer to America's Tomahawk and Pakistan's Babur missiles. With a range of up to 1,000 km (620 miles), and a capability to carry nuclear warheads, the missile could be used by India as a deterrent against its nuclear-armed rival Pakistan.
The Nirbhay <a href="http://rusnavy.com/news/othernavies/index.php?ELEMENT_ID=13620">can be launched</a> from multiple platforms, and different variants are expected to be adopted by India's Navy, Army, and Air Force. The Nirbhay is <a href="http://rusnavy.com/news/othernavies/index.php?ELEMENT_ID=13620">expected to replace </a>India's previous cruise missile, the Brahmos, which was co-developed with Russia. 
India's development of a long-range, nuclear-capable cruise missile comes within the context of ongoing tensions along the country's various disputed borders. India and Pakistan have <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/oct/09/india-warns-pakistan-pay-heavy-price-shelling-kashmir">exchanged artillery fire</a> over the disputed region of Kashmir this month, leading to tens of thousands of residents being evacuated and India threatening further measures against its northern neighbor.
India is also likely worried about <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/china-has-slowly-been-eating-away-at-india-2014-9">Chinese attempts to move into disputed territory in the Himilayas</a>. China, meanwhile, is developing its own advanced missile capabilities, including <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/hypersonic-weapons-arm-race-2014-9">boost-glide supersonic weapons</a> and ballistic missiles capable of carrying <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chinas-worrying-new-weapons-2014-8">multiple nuclear warheads</a>.
The Nirbhay is just the latest piece of evidence that India is serious about keeping pace with its regional rivals - last year, the country was <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/india-is-the-worlds-largest-arms-importer-2014-6">the largest arms-importer in the world</a>.

India Just Successfully Tested A Nuclear-Capable Cruise Missile

The Kurukshetra war had witnessed a lot of ancient weaponry which was far more advanced and futuristic than what we posses today.
 The concept of <keyword id="94511" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="astra">Astra</keyword> (Missile) and Dhanush (Launchers) emerged from there. Astra was a supernatural hand-carried weapon blessed by a specific deity. The function of an Astra is more than that of a missile. It is said that Astras used in Mahabharata probably might have also used technologies of emitting most dangerous rays like Gamma and others, which have exceptional powers to penetrate. Some Astras returns to the person who launches it, for instance, Krishna's Sudharsana Chakra. This may be similar to the reusable missiles which the <keyword id="119061" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organization">Indian Space Research Organization</keyword> (ISRO) is working on. How could it be possible to manufacture such advanced weapons, thousands of years ago without knowing the complex technology and without having large scale industrial infrastructure? Well, those weapons were guided by some kind of alien GPS system for long range targets and commanded by the Mantras which are similar to today's log-ins and passwords. 

	Astras were also used for defensive purposes similar to a Tesla Shield which is used to destroy the enemy Astra coming towards it. The modern "Tesla shield" discharges electrical energy and any incoming physical object which hits the shell receives an enormous discharge of that energy and instantly vaporizes. It can also be compared to the anti-missile air defense system of the modern times.
 

	India has a Beyond Visual Range Air to Air Missile (BVRAAM) named Astra. Astra is designed to be capable of engaging targets at varying ranges and altitudes allowing for engagement of both short-range targets (up to 20 km) and long-range targets (up to 80 km) using alternative propulsion modes and the missile is technologically more sophisticated than the nuclear capable Agni missile series of strategic ballistic missiles.

	Astras like Brahmashira, Brahmasthra, Pasupatasthra, Vaishnavasthra, Narayana Astra, Agneyasthra, Vayavasthra, Nagasthra, Vajrasthra, Varunasthra etc. were used in Mahabharata along with positive indications of the use of Nuclear weapons, otherwise how could the war cause the death of around 1.5 billion people in a matter of 18 days. The wide degree of devastation found at the site of Mohanjo Daro corresponds exactly to Nagasaki. 	 <keyword id="2933609" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Julius-Robert-Oppenheimer">Julius Robert Oppenheimer</keyword>, the principle developer of the atomic bomb, stated that "The Vedas are the greatest privilege of this century." During the explosion of the first atomic bomb, Oppenheimer quoted several Bhagavad-Gita verses from the 11th chapter, such as:

	When Oppenheimer was asked if this is the first nuclear explosion, he significantly replied: "Yes, in modern times," implying that ancient nuclear explosions may have previously occurred.

Mahabharata and the Vedas have influenced a generation of the scientists and is still relevant in creating the cutting-edge advanced and futuristic technologies for the mankind including the modern weaponry and warfare.
