The 30-share index opened over 200 points higher, but soon turned negative and was trading 38.52 points or 0.07 per cent lower at 58,611.16 in initial deals. Similarly, the <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> slipped 17.60 points or 0.10 per cent to 17,452.15. Reliance Industries was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rising over 1 per cent, followed by Dr Reddy's, Asian Paints, Sun Pharma, <keyword id="6354919" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lt" source="Orion">L&amp;T</keyword>, Bajaj Finance, <keyword id="6354512" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="infosys" source="Orion">Infosys</keyword> and HDFC. On the other hand, <keyword id="6357149" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hdfc-bank" source="Orion">HDFC Bank</keyword>, Tata Steel, <keyword id="45179" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ntpc" source="Orion">NTPC</keyword>, TCS and Titan were among the laggards. In the previous session, the 30-share equity benchmark zoomed 1,016.03 points or 1.76 per cent to finish at 58,649.68, and Nifty rallied 293.05 points or 1.71 per cent to 17,469.75. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers in the capital market, as they sold shares worth Rs 579.27 crore on Wednesday, as per exchange data. "Today being a weekly settlement day, the heightened market volatility of the last few days is likely to continue. Sustained FII selling had pushed the market to oversold territory, facilitating a sharp rebound when risk-on resumed globally," said <keyword id="8690584" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vk-vijayakumar" source="Orion">VK Vijayakumar</keyword>, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services. Investors may take a wait and watch view now. Wait for the volatility to ebb and take a position based on emerging data, he added. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai, Seoul and Hong Kong were trading with gains in mid-session deals, while Tokyo was in the red. Stock exchanges in the US too ended with gains in the overnight session. Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.57 per cent to USD 76.25 per barrel. Equity benchmark <keyword id="6484188" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="sensex" source="Orion">Sensex</keyword> jumped over 300 points in early trade on Tuesday, tracking gains in index heavyweights <keyword id="6354512" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="infosys" source="Orion">Infosys</keyword>, Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank amid a largely positive trend in global markets. The 30-share index surged 320.31 points or 0.56 per cent to 57,740.55 in the opening trade. Similarly, the <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> rose 94.70 points or 0.55 per cent to 17,180.95. <keyword id="106317" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="asian-paints" source="Orion">Asian Paints</keyword> was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rising around 2 per cent, followed by Tech Mahindra, <keyword id="6354919" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lt" source="Orion">L&amp;T</keyword>, Infosys, HCL Tech and PowerGrid. On the other hand, <keyword id="44587" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dr-reddy" source="Orion">Dr Reddy</keyword>'s was the sole laggard. In the previous session, the 30-share equity benchmark settled 295.93 points or 0.52 per cent higher at 57,420.24, and Nifty recovered 82.50 points or 0.49 per cent to 17,086.25. Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers in the capital market, as they sold shares worth Rs 1,038.25 crore on Monday, according to stock exchange data. "If the market's ability to discount the future turns right, the global economy is likely to clock decent growth in 2022," said VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services. The resilience of the US market (S&amp;P 500 registered its 69th record high yesterday) and the spike in crude are indications that the Omicron variant, though surging, is unlikely to impact economic activity in any meaningful way, he noted. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai and Hong Kong were trading with losses in mid-session deals, while Seoul and Tokyo were positive. Sensex surges 500 points; shares of Eicher Motors, L&T, Asian Paints, automobile, IT companies among top gainers

After surging to 59,156.62 in the opening session, the 30-share Sensex was trading 340.95 points or 0.58 per cent higher at 59,106.53. Similarly, the <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> rose 98.40 points or 0.56 per cent to 17,630.45. Bharti Airtel was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rising around 2 per cent, followed by Dr Reddy's, SBI, Bajaj Finserv, Sun Pharma and HDFC. On the other hand, Tata Steel, Nestle India, HUL, Titan and PowerGrid were among the gainers. In the previous session, the 30-share index ended 360.78 points or 0.61 per cent lower at 58,765.58, and Nifty declined 86.10 points or 0.49 per cent to 17,532.05. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital market as they purchased shares worth Rs 131.39 crore on Friday, as per exchange data. According to V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, the dollar index slipping to 94.05 and the US 10-year yield slipping below 1.5 per cent can be interpreted as indicative of return of risk-on in equity markets. However, news from China can turn out to be a drag. China is trying to limit the damage to its real estate sector without bailing out Evergrande, he said, adding that an inevitable consequence will be a slowdown of the Chinese economy which will have implications for commodity prices and currencies of commodity exporters. "Back home, India's exports are booming and are in line to touch the USD 400 billion mark in FY22," he noted. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Hong Kong and Tokyo were trading with heavy losses, while Shanghai and Seoul were closed for holidays. Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude fell 0.30 per cent to USD 79.04 per barrel.
