<ul><li>Dr Reddy’s Laboratories reported a 1.5% decline in consolidated net profit to ₹570 crore in June quarter.</li><li>The company’s business in North America grew 1% year-on-year while its sales fell 1% on a quarterly basis.</li><li>Shares of one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the country were down 10% on July 27.</li></ul>Shares of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories hit a 10% lower circuit after the company posted a 1.5% decline in year-on-year net profit for the June quarter. The pharmaceutical company’s profit for June quarter was almost flat at ₹570 crore compared to ₹579 crore in the same period last year. Its North American business grew by merely 1% on a yearly basis and fell 1% on a quarterly basis on account of price erosion in some products and despite a launch of 6 new products. Also, the company’s total expense rose by nearly 25% to ₹4,513 crore in June quarter 2021 on the back of rising expenses in impairment of non-current assets, cost of materials consumed, purchase of stock in trade and employee benefit expense. On the other hand, the company’s revenue grew by 11% year-on-year to ₹4,919 crore. It saw a strong 69% year-on-year growth in its India business led by increase in sale of COVID-19 drugs due to the severe second wave witnessed in India. “We believe that the weaker set of numbers reported by Dr.Reddy’s Laboratories are due to sales degrowth in the active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) business and muted sales growth in the USA business. India business and Europe business have reported sales growth of 69% and 12% respectively. Companies' margins are down significantly and were below the market expectation,” said Yash Gupta, equity research associate at Angel Broking. <div type="image" title="dr reddys chart" height="900" width="1200" msid="84788758" hostid="261"></div> Further, the company has increased its expenses under research and development to focus on a healthy pipeline of new products pertaining to COVID-19 treatment. "The financial performance of the quarter has been driven by healthy sales growth. I am confident about improving our margins in the upcoming quarters, which will be led by the scale up of recent launches, new product launches and productivity, said the company’s co-chairman and managing director, G V Prasad. At 2:48 p.m., July 27, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories shares were trading 10% lower at ₹4,880 and BSE Healthcare index was also down 3%. According to the report, Dr Reddy's Laboratories is recalling drugs to treat insomnia and gout in the American market. New Jersey-based Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Inc., a unit of Hyderabad-based drug major, is recalling 13,752 bottles of Eszopiclone tablets, the USFDA stated. The affected lot has been produced at Dr Reddy's Bachupally plant in Telangana. As per the USFDA, the drug firm is recalling the affected lot due to "Failed Impurities/Degradation Specifications". The company issued the Class III nationwide recall on June 4 this year. As per the USFDA, a Class III recall is initiated in a "situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product is not likely to cause adverse health consequences". Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Inc. is also recalling 20,520 units of Allopurinol tablets in the US market due to the "presence of foreign substance". The company initiated the Class II nationwide (US) recall on June 7, 2024, the US health regulator said. The USFDA said a US-based unit of Sun Pharma is recalling 2,088 vials of Decitabine for Injection (50mg per vial) due to "CGMP Deviations". The affected lot of the chemotherapy medication was produced at Sun Pharma's Gujarat-based manufacturing plant. New Jersey-based Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Inc. initiated the nationwide Class II recall on July 2 this year. As per the USFDA, a Class II recall is initiated in a situation in which the use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote. Dr Reddy's, Sun Pharma recall drugs in US market: USFDA

New Delhi, Jan 27 () Dr Reddy's Laboratories on Monday reported a consolidated loss of Rs 569.7 crore for the quarter ended December 2019.
 The company had posted a profit of Rs 485.2 crore in the year-ago period, Dr Reddy's Laboratories said in a fiing to BSE.
 The consolidated revenues of the company in the October-December period increased to Rs 4,383.8 crore, over Rs 3,850 crore in the year-ago period, the filing said.
 "The current quarter performance has been good across all our businesses and we achieved strong earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) margins," the company's Co-Chairman and MD GV Prasad said in a statement.
 The profits were impacted due to trigger-based impairment charge taken on a few products including gNuvaring, he said, adding that the company continues to focus on execution and has made significant progress on quality systems and operational efficiencies.
 The shares of Dr Reddy's Laboratories were trading at Rs 3,088.40 a piece on BSE, up 1.99 per cent from the previous close. SID SID ANS

On August 13, Zydus Cadila launched its own version of Remdesivir called Remda in the Indian market. Remdac is priced at ₹2,800 per 100 mg vial, making it the cheapest version of the drug so far. Zydus Cadila said that the drug will be made available across India through the group's strong distribution chain reaching out to government and private hospitals treating COVID-19 patients. In June this year, Zydus had entered into a non-exclusive agreement with Gilead Sciences Inc to manufacture and sell Remdesivir, the investigational drug, which has been issued an emergency use authorisation by the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to treat patients suffering from severe symptoms of COVID-19. Previously, pharmaceutical giants Cipla and Hetero introduced generic versions Remdesivir — an antiviral drug first used to treat Ebola — to fight coronavirus. The drug was launched in India in July. India’s Health Ministry approved use of the drug to treat mild cases of coronavirus. However, the drug is not recommended to treat those who have several renal impairment, pregnant and lactating women, children below 12 years age. Hetero said it will make its version of Remdesivir — Covifor — available between ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 for a vial. Whereas, Cipla's Cipremi is available for ₹4000 for per 100 mg vial. Cipla’s Cipremi is available for only those patients who are on oxygen support. Apart from Cipla and Hetero Labs, Jubilant Lifesciences and Mylan are also working to manufacture the drug in India. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Biocon firm Syngene and has also received voluntary permission from Gilead Sciences to produce Remdesivir in India. New Delhi, Jan 3 () Drug major Dr Reddy's Laboratories on Friday said it has received shareholders nod for proposed amalgamation of Dr Reddy's Holdings Ltd into the company.
 The resolution for the scheme was approved by 99.98 per cent votes of the total 13.10 crore votes casted by equity shareholders of the company, it said in a regulatory filing.
 21,026 votes, which accounted for the rest 0.02 per cent, were posted against the resolution, it added.
 The voting was conducted as per the directions of the Hyderabad Bench of the National Company Law Tribunal on November 22, 2019.
 The meeting of equity shareholders was convened on January 2, 2020.
 The board of Dr Reddy's Laboratories had on July 29, 2019, approved the amalgamation of Dr Reddy's Holdings Ltd, an entity held by the promoter group which holds 24.88 per cent equity shares of Dr Reddy's Laboratories, into the company.
 The scheme would lead to simplification of the shareholding structure and reduction of shareholding tiers, the company had said. "The Promoter Group cumulatively will continue to hold the same number of shares in the Company, pre and post the amalgamation," it had said.
 Shares of Dr Reddy's Laboratories on Friday settled at Rs 2,888.90 on the BSE, up 0.87 per cent from its previous close. KRH AKT

New Delhi, Mar 17 () Dr Reddy's Laboratories on Tuesday said it has launched in the US generic Ziprasidone Mesylate for injection used for treatment of acute agitation in schizophrenic patients.The company has launched Ziprasidone Mesylate for injection 20 mg (base)/mL single-dose vials in the US after approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA), Dr Reddy's said in a statement.The product is a generic version of Pfizer's Geodon injection, 20 mg/mL, it added. New Delhi, Dec 4 () Pharma major Dr Reddy's Laboratories on Wednesday said it has launched Bortezomib for Injection 3.5 mg/vial, indicated for the treatment of certain types of cancers in adult patients, in the US market.
 The company has launched Bortezomib for Injection 3.5 mg/vial, approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) via a new drug application pathway for intravenous use only, Dr Reddy's Laboratories said in a statement.
 "We're pleased to bring this product to market for the customers and patients who will benefit from this cost efficient alternative in the market place," Dr Reddy's Laboratories North America Generics CEO Marc Kikuchi said.
 This is a great addition to company's injectable offering in the US market as it continues to augment its portfolio of products in the hospital segment, he added.
 The company's product is for intravenous use only and is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with multiple myeloma and for the treatment of adult patients with mantle cell lymphoma who have received at least one prior therapy, the statement said.

Under the terms of the agreement, Dr Reddy's will acquire the portfolio for an upfront payment of approximately USD 90 million in cash, contingent payments of up to USD 15 million, consideration towards inventory and credits for certain accrued channel liabilities to be determined on the closing date, it said. For the financial period ended June 30, 2022, Mayne Pharma reported total revenue of USD 111 million (USD) for the acquired portfolio. Approved high-value products include a hormonal vaginal ring, a birth control pill and a cardiovascular product. The closing of the transaction is subject to satisfactory completion of customary closing conditions including the applicable waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 (HSR Act), as amended. The acquisition will complement Dr Reddy's US retail prescription <keyword id="6469017" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharmaceutical" source="Orion">pharmaceutical</keyword> business with limited competition products. It also supports Dr Reddy's efforts to accelerate and expand affordable medications for patients, the release further said. New Delhi, July 6 () Dr Reddy's Laboratories expects its overall performance to be "quite volatile" in the current fiscal with uncertainties related to COVID-19 set to increase during the period, the company said in its Annual Report for 2019-20. Sharing information with the company's shareholders, the drug major said overall, there was no major impact of the pandemic during the last fiscal, including the fourth quarter. "Having said so, we believe FY2021 will have more uncertainties than ever before. Consequently, our overall performance may be quite volatile," Dr Reddy's Laboratories said. The company however remains cautiously optimistic of re-calibrating its levers to suit the new business environment, it noted. "If we do this successfully, we should be able to come to terms with the new COVID-19 reality. And, if that occurs, we should perform satisfactorily in FY2021," it added. Elaborating on the impact of COVID-19 on the company's business performance last fiscal, Dr Reddy's said it saw some incremental sales in certain markets, such as the US, Europe and Russia, due to an increase in panic. The company's sales, however, got impacted in domestic market and emerging markets like Russia and Brazil due to the pandemic, Dr Reddy's said. The Hyderabad-based firm said it aims to continue with initiatives like cost control and increased efficiencies this fiscal amid challenges like coronavirus pandemic. "We expect this journey to continue with increased rigor in FY2021, and thus provide the necessary impetus to our performance next year," Dr Reddy's said. The drug firm will continue to focus on patient-centric product innovation, operational excellence, continuous improvement and attaining leadership in chosen spaces, it added. Commenting on the outlook for North American Generics (NAG) business, the company said its current priority includes accelerating new product launches and increasing the market share of existing products. The strategy is to significantly expand portfolio and ensure the right cost structures for products to be able to compete in this highly competitive market, the drug firm noted. "We will continue to focus on complex formulations - primarily injectables and oral solid dosage forms - as well as OTC brands in the medium term, and generics, controlled substances under class II, and non-substitutable generics in the longer term," it said. The company's NAG business accounted for 37 per cent of the company's overall revenues, which stood at Rs 17,460 crore last fiscal. In 2019-20, the drug firm said it filed eight new abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs) with the USFDA. As on March 31, 2020, the company had 99 generic filings pending approval from the US health regulator. The company's strategy for the emerging markets is to build a healthy portfolio pipeline, including expansion of biosimilars and oncology products. "We will focus on scaling up in our major markets, which include Russia, China, Brazil, South Africa and Ukraine," Dr Reddy's said.
