Hiring for roles in artificial intelligence (AI) and Oil &amp; Gas sectors has witnessed a growth of over 20 per cent in the month of February 2024, a new report showed on Monday. According to the Naukri JobSpeak Index, AI-related roles such as Machine Learning Engineer and Full Stack AI Scientist jumped a staggering 100 per cent and 44 per cent, respectively, in February 2024 vs last year. In the Oil &amp; Gas sector, hiring increased by 21 per cent in February this year compared to last year. Hiring in the <keyword id="19933821" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharma" source="keywords">Pharma</keyword> sector recorded a 9 per cent growth. AI, Oil & Gas sectors show over 20% growth in hiring in Feb: Report

<ul><li>As the year draws to a close, it is important to pause and reflect.</li><li>We speak to industry leaders about the year gone by and a few lessons they learnt from 2021.</li></ul>It was during the peak of the pandemic in 2020 when doctors across the world were still trying to figure out what the novel Coronavirus is, I lost my grandmother. Shortly after, my father tested positive for the virus. His oxygen dropped to 78 mm. We struggled to find a bed for him and found a hospital 50 kms away. He was still mourning the loss of his mother, fighting a deadly virus, struggling to form sentences but he had a huge smile on his face when I taught him how to video call on WhatsApp. He was there for two weeks but those weeks definitely felt like a decade to me. I had the nurse's number on my speed dial, I called her first thing in the morning to ask, "How is my father breathing today? Has his oxygen picked up?" She would respond patiently, "Yes, we are doing our best." To escape from this, I buried myself in work, binge-watched violent movies to numb the pain I was actually feeling. After we heard the news that he is coming back, we decorated the house. I put up some fairy lights, made a rangoli, bought his favourite sweets -- Kaju Katli. After all, we were welcoming Ram back into his home right before Diwali. It took me a while to process the horrendous month that I had spent. Thankfully, I had a very supportive team at work. I remember texting my editor a week later, "I will be submitting my story late today, I am too anxious and panicked." She responded, "Sure, take your time, Karuna." So, if 2020 was about self-isolation, making sure our older family members stay safe and prioritizing their physical health, 2021 taught me the importance of mental health. After months of working from home -- away from our loved ones, seeing the country battle a deadly virus and our medical industry getting crippled, 2021 was all about healing from the storm. It was about finding comfort in little wins and reminding ourselves that we are all in this together. Change can be scary, sure, and not knowing what the future holds is scarier, but resilience is stronger. As we enter a new year with a lot of uncertainty yet again because no one knows what variants COVID-19 will throw at us, it is important to remember that we have survived the worst. By now, we know what works and what doesn’t. The impact of 2020 and 2021 will be felt next year too but remember to take care of yourself first if you want to be able to show up for other people too. And most importantly, double mask up, people! The comfort of a safe environment where one can be heard without judgement. That was gone. There’s also the realization that, perhaps, the old ways were inadequate. Ashish Khazanchi, Managing Partner, Enormous: The pandemic was a true test of character of people, teams and organisations. While there certainly was a big drop in businesses and toplines, what was at stake was organisations' humanity. People in organisations everywhere dealt with the kind of uncertainty they never were faced before. Uncertainty of livelihoods, careers and sanity amidst surmounting work pressures. The better organisations, in my opinion, made sure that their people were taken care of at least as much as their businesses. When the specter of lockdowns was a little bit behind us, we saw a simple trend both in terms of people and companies. Anyone who did not take easy ways out, like the typical bottomline managers do, by cutting costs rather than working on newer avenues of organisational growth, are going to be the true hero companies of tomorrow. They've tasted success and now when the tides are turning, they're going to be unputdownable. 2022 will see business return to near normal, I would predict the number of pitches to go through the roof from about March. The ones with the best people and processes and creative products, will win 2022 by a mile. And it’s more than worth it. 5 things I learnt as a person: 1. Reinvest in relationships- It took a pandemic for me to take a long, hard look at my relationship. And I realised that I have taken a lot for granted. Money won’t buy you your loved ones. Spend time with them. 2. Take care of yourself - Eat well, exercise and sleep for eight hours. You will enjoy life a lot more if you are fit. 3. Be kind to yourself- I am less critical of myself today than I was in 2019. I am comfortable in my skin and happy where I am. Could I have done better? I don’t know. And I don’t care. 4. Invest in yourself - Learn a new skill. Learn a new language. Take up new hobbies. Add new facets to your personality. Reinvent yourself. Be interesting. 5. Practice Gratitude - You are on a piece of rock whipping around a burning star at nearly 40 times the speed of a bullet. Appreciate the miracle . Be thankful for just being alive. Lessons 2021 taught our advertising leaders

Will there be unanimity amongst the members of the Reserve Bank of India's (<keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="Orion">RBI</keyword>) <keyword id="6375120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Monetary-Policy-Committee" source="Orion">Monetary Policy Committee</keyword> (MPC) on the decisions to be taken at their <keyword id="15379699" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="November-3-meeting" source="Orion">November 3 meeting</keyword> is the question that pops up. The reason being that at the MPC meeting held in September, one member voted against the resolution hiking the repo rate by 50 basis points to 5.90 per cent. And in the August meeting too there were differences of views on the resolution that was passed. "Even at the upcoming meeting each one will have a view which will be considered by the RBI is what I believe. That will be put in the letter to the Central Government," a senior economist told IANS preferring anonymity. The RBI has scheduled the November 3 meeting of MPC under Section 45ZN of the RBI Act. As per the said Section, when the RBI fails to meet the inflation target, it shall send a report to the Central government listing: (a) the reasons for failure to achieve the inflation target; (b) remedial actions proposed to be taken by it; and (c) an estimate of the time-period within which the inflation target shall be achieved pursuant to timely implementation of proposed remedial actions. The MPC at its upcoming meeting will discuss what it would tell the Centre as to why it was not able to restrain the inflation. The RBI may also sound out the Central government as to the course of inflation as well as the reasons as to why it may be at the elevated levels. In India, the retail inflation rose to 7.41 per cent in September. At the MPC meeting held in September, Dr. Ashima Goyal voted against the resolution to hike the repo rate by 50 basis points to 5.90 per cent. Goyal was for a hike of 35 basis points and explaining his reasons voted against the resolution. However, the resolution was passed by a 5:1 majority. At the same meeting, another member Prof. Jayanth R. Varma voted against the second part of the resolution on the withdrawal of accommodation to ensure inflation remains within the target. Varma said the MPC should now pause rather than focus on further tightening . On the issue of upward rate revision, he was for upward revision by 60 basis points instead of 50 basis points that was proposed. As the difference between the two was only marginal Varma voted in favour. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das had said the communication with the central government is a privileged one and it will not be made public by the Bank. However as per Section 45ZL of the RBI Act, the minutes of the MPC meeting has to be published. Will the views of RBI MPC members converge or diverge at Nov 3 meeting?

Apart from the decision on the repo rate hike by the Reserve Bank of India's (<keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword>) Monetary Policy Committee (<keyword id="6369693" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mpc" source="Orion">MPC</keyword>) at its upcoming meeting, one can also expect few more things post the discussions. Economic experts expect the <keyword id="15698737" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mpc-to-hike-the-repo-rate" source="Orion">MPC to hike the repo rate</keyword> by 25-35 basis points (bps) with industry lobby body ASSOCHAM also urging the central bank to do the same. Further it will also be interesting to see whether there will be unanimity amongst the members of the MPC on the decisions taken at the ensuing meeting. Post MPC meeting, the RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das is expected to share what the bank has written to the central government as to the reasons for not controlling the inflation and the steps that are being taken to reign in the same. The MPC had met on November 3, to discuss what it would tell the central government on the reasons why it was not able to restrain the inflation. As per the Section 45ZN of the RBI Act, when the central bank fails to meet the inflation target, it shall send a report to the Central government listing: the reasons for failure to achieve the inflation target; remedial actions proposed to be taken by it; and an estimate of the time-period within which the inflation target shall be achieved pursuant to timely implementation of proposed remedial actions. The proceedings of the said MPC meeting have not been made public even though the law provides to the contrary. As per section 45ZK, the RBI shall publish, after the conclusion of every meeting of MPC, the resolution adopted by the said Committee. Further, as per the Section 45ZL of the RBI Act, the minutes of the MPC meeting has to be published on the 14th day after every meeting including: the resolution adopted at the meeting of the MPC; the vote of each member of the MPC, ascribed to such member, on resolutions adopted in the said meeting; and the statement of each member of the MPC under sub-section (11) of Section 45ZL on the resolutions adopted in the said meeting. Be that as it may, the expectation of the MPC meeting is that the repo rate hike will be a moderate one and range between 25-35 bps. The RBI has hiked the repo rate by 190 bps from four per cent to 5.90 per cent. Now MPC will take into account the gross domestic product (GDP) growth estimates, the foodgrain production estimates, inflation projection, global economic activity and other factors. "The RBI will be presenting the monetary policy against the backdro p of GDP growth slowing down as well as inflation being high above six per cent," Madan Sabnavis, Chief Economist, Bank of Baroda said. According to him, the MPC will continue with rate hikes this time though the magnitude will be lower - probably 25-35 bps, "More specifically we do believe that the terminal repo rate for th e financial year will be 6.5 per cent, which means there will be one more rate hike in February. It is unlikely to change the stance and the withdrawal of liquidity will continue," he added. "We expect a 35 bps rate hike in the upcoming meeting. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation is likely to moderate further in the coming months and slip below six per cent by the end of the fiscal year," Rajani Sinha, Chief Economist, CARE Ratings told IANS. She also said the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) has also fallen sharply from 16 per cent in May/June to around eight per cent. "The fall in global commodity prices comes as a big relief. However, the concern is that core inflation in India still remains high above six per cent. Food inflation and specifically cereal inflation is also high," Sinha pointed out. This, in turn, will put upward pressure on household inflationary expectations which is already at a high of around 10 per cent. Hence, while there is some reprieve on the inflation front, RBI would remain vigilant, she added. On the growth front, high frequency economic indicators like auto sales, GST collection, e-way bill, PMI continue to indicate healthy recovery. However, some consumption indicators like IIP consumer durables and non-durables remain weak, Sinha said. Moreover, external demand is weakening as the global economy slows down, Sinha said. According to K. Joseph Thomas, Head Research, Emkay Wealth, as far as interest rates go, the trajectory of domestic inflation is of prime importance. "The pressure seems to be easing on the price level, but the comfor t that can be drawn from fuel prices is far from real. The upside risks in fuel prices continue to be a concern," he said. Congress has nominated J P Agarwal from Chandni Chowk, Smt. Sheila Dikshit from Northeast Delhi, Arvinder Singh Lovely from East Delhi, Ajay Maken from New Delhi, Rajesh Lilothia from Northwest Delhi and Mahabal Mishra from West Delhi. BJP has announced that Dr. Harsha Vardhan will contest from Chandni Chowk, Manoj Tiwari will fight from Northeast Delhi, Parvesh Verma will face the elections from West Delhi and Ramesh Bidhuri will contest for the party from South Delhi. The party has nominated Hans Raj Hans to contest from North West Delhi. <ul><li>The biggest menace for the Indian startups angel tax was not addressed in the Budget 2019. </li><li>Indian entrepreneurs are disappointed with the exclusion of startup policies. </li><li>However, Finance Minister Piyush Goyal included artificial intelligence in the government’s Vision 2030, which could boost the growth of AI startups. </li></ul>Indian startups had big hopes from the Budget 2019 but the government failed to bring anything on board for the entrepreneurs in the country. The impact of startups in India was measured with jobs created in the country. “With job seekers becoming job creators, India has become the world’s second largest start-up hub,” said Finance Minister Piyush Goyal during his Budget speech. However, the Budget failed to cover important aspects that startups looked forward to – most importantly the Angel Tax menace. From entrepreneurs to investors, everyone was looking at angel tax being removed. “With the upcoming budget, I wish the government addresses problems being faced by startups over taxes levied on angel funds,” Harshil Mathur, cofounder of Razorpay, had said before the budget had been announced. Meanwhile, Dr Ritesh Malik, one of the most active <keyword id="6365770" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="angel-investors">angel investors</keyword> in the country and co-founder of Innov8, had expected that the government will bring an instrumental change in policies which will transform, safeguard and support the startup ecosystem. Finance Minister mentioned that special benefits and incentives were given to small businesses and start-ups while also simplifying overall compliance processes. However, considering the <keyword id="3209713" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startup-India-initiative">Startup India initiative</keyword> is considered to be one of the most important initiatives of the Modi government, there was more awaited. While the government did mention Digital India as one of its initiatives for Vision 2030, covering artificial intelligence and robotics, the Budget failed to accommodate expectations of entrepreneurs. “Looks like the government doesn't realise the potential of growth that startups can contribute to the overall economy and the jobs creation situation in the country. Ignoring the pain areas for startups and the ecosystem is sending wrong signals to the youth of the country. Budget 2019 for startups in India was too much of expectation, but too less was delivered.
