After heavy downpour, floods and landslides that battered <keyword id="67781" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="northeast-india" source="Orion">Northeast India</keyword> for the last two months, almost the whole region is now reeling under heat, <keyword id="6355166" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india-meteorological-department" source="Orion">India Meteorological Department</keyword> (<keyword id="6366970" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="imd" source="Orion">IMD</keyword>) said. The maximum temperature has been recorded a few degrees above normal in different cities of Assam and the nearby states on Thursday. Silchar, the second populous city of Assam, witnessed the highest temperature on Thursday in the entire region. The temperature was recorded at 39.6 degree Celsius, which is the second all-time highest temperature for this town. Assam's capital city <keyword id="35727" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="guwahati" source="Orion">Guwahati</keyword> also witnessed a soaring temperature at 38.1 degree Celsius. Severe heat has thrown millions of lives out of gear in Northeastern states. The IMD said that there may not be any respite from intense heat in the next 48 hours. The IMD officials have asked people to take precautions as temperatures are set to remain high for a few days. The temperature was above normal in the states of Tripura, <keyword id="46408" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="arunachal-pradesh" source="Orion">Arunachal Pradesh</keyword>, Nagaland, <keyword id="6359754" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="manipur" source="Orion">Manipur</keyword> and <keyword id="65591" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mizoram" source="Orion">Mizoram</keyword>. Most parts of south Mumbai received between 4 to 6cm of rain, resulting in waterlogging at some spots and hindering traffic flow, said the BMC Disaster Control. Flooding was reported in Cuffe Parade, Bhulabhai Desai Road, Worli, Dadar, Parel, Chira Bazaar, Masjid Bunder and surroundings. In the suburbs, waterlogging was reported in Andheri forcing closure of the subway, and vehicle movement had slowed down in Borivali, Malad and Jogeshwari areas. Though Mulund, Bhandup and Powai also received good rain, there were no reports of any disruptions of normal life so far. The IMD Mumbai has forecast very heavy rain in Mumbai and Konkan over the next 24 hours, with warning to people not to venture outdoors unless necessary. The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for most of the coastal Konkan on Friday-Saturday-Sunday, besides north and south Maharashtra.

Gandhinagar, June 8 (IANS) Gujarat on Monday witnessed heavy rain in most parts of the state, spelling respite from almost two months of sizzling summer, and more rain is likely in the next three-four days. Although, the monsoon's entry in Gujarat is expected after June 15, around 15 days after it arrives in Kerala, torrential downpour brought the high summer temperatures down in most parts of the state with 54 blocks (tehsils) receiving more than 2 mm rain. Bhavnagar received the maximum rain (83 mm) in eight hours till 2 p.m. Vallabhipur, another tehsil in Bhavnagar, received 63 mm, Umrala and Amreli district's Savarkundla 48 mm each, Ghogha tehsil in Bhavnagar 36 mm and Manavadar tehsil in Junagarh 33 mm of rain. Ahmedabad was almost brought to standstill as many parts of the city witnessed water-logging. Also, even in the afternoon the visibility was reduced to almost nil. In many parts of Saurashtra, several trees were uprooted. Many check-dams were reported to be overflowing in many districts of Saurashtra, like Botad, Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Amreli. In 15 minutes, Nadiad city received 2 inches of rain. Rajkot city received around 3 mm rain. Although the pre-monsoon rain is believed to have caused some damage to the onion crop in Bhavnagar, majority of farmers in the state are happy and are expecting good rain this year. New $150 million roof at US Open is already causing huge problems during heavy downpour

It is raining cats and dogs in Chennai and its suburbs. The torrential rains, which are the worst in 100 years, not only crippled normal life but also put IT giants like TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, and the automobile sector in a tight spot. 
 
As rescue operations are on war-footing, IT companies have issues respective codes and guidelines for its employees to ensure seamless work so that clients do not suffer. 
 
For instance, Cognizant sent some of its employees to a different office and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) held some key resources at its offices only. 
 
Cognizant also held on to few critical employees even though its facilities were operational. 
 
"For employees who have chosen to stay back at our facilities to provide uninterrupted 24x7 support to critical client projects, we have made the necessary accommodation and food arrangements. We have implemented our business continuity plan and are closely monitoring the situation," a Cognizant spokesperson told ET. 
 
HCL Technologies, too, invoked a plan and offered employees a 'flexible work schedule'. 
 
Meanwhile, TCS also made transportation arrangements for its employees. 
 
"We would advise all associates, particularly those who have come by two-wheelers, to avail themselves of TCS transportation of car-pool with your colleagues wherever possible. Any decision on Wednesday's working will be communicated to you later in the day," stated a communique to TCS employees. 
 
Infosys runs a large office close to the Veerapuram lake, which swelled and flooded the IT SEZ, and had to close its office early. 
 
The company released a statement saying, “As a precautionary measure for the safety of our employees due to flooding at the Infosys campuses in Chennai, we have closed our offices early on Tuesday. The Mahindra City campus has seen some flooding due to neighbouring lakes overflowing due to the incessant rain." 
 One of the worst hit sectors was automobile as <keyword id="3157783" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="heavy-rains-in-Chennai">heavy rains in Chennai</keyword> delayed production and delivery of vehicles. 
 
Renault Nissan produced fewer cars by about 300 numbers. BMW India, too, had to shut down. 
 
ARMY DEPLOYED FOR HELP 
 
Army and NDRF personnel have been deployed in Chennai after the Tamil Nadu government sought military assistance. The Navy is also on stand-by. 
 
All flight operations at Chennai airport were suspended and 11 foreign and nine domestic flights from the airport were put on hold as no landing or take-off was allowed till late Tuesday evening. 
 
The rains have virtually broken a 100-year-old record with one day's rainfall covering a month's average.
