More than 20 years after its broadcast, Ramanand Sagar's epic mythological series "<keyword id="951735" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shri-Krishna">Shri Krishna</keyword>" is all set to make a comeback on <keyword id="6408304" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="doordarshan">Doordarshan</keyword>, the broadcaster announced on Sunday. The show joins other popular epics such as "Ramayan" and "Mahabharat" to be re-run amid the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. "Coming soon: 'Shri Krishna'," the post on DD National channel's official handle read. Created, written and directed by Sagar, the series chronicled the life of <keyword id="3198" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lord-Krishna">Lord Krishna</keyword>. The show was first broadcast on Doordarshan's Metro Channel (DD 2) from 1993, but moved to DD National in 1996. "Shri Krishna" starred actor Sarvadaman D Banerjee as the adult Krishna, while Swwapnil Joshi played the teenage version of the character. The show also starred Deepak Deulkar, Pinky Parikh among others. After India shut itself down to contain the COVID-19 outbreak, Doordarshan brought back all its classics from the eighties to entertain people. Ramayan gained 174 million viewers within four days of re-telecast. Whereas, it received more than 500 million views between 28 March and 4 April. The re-telecast of three-decades-old mythological series Ramayan made DD national the most-watched channel. Its viewership grew 22% within a week (April 4-10), according to rating agency BARC. Apart from Ramayan, Doordarshan brought back its Golden Era shows back on TV — Shaktimaan, Mahabharat, and Byomkesh Bakshi. In fact, DD channels received the highest viewership across genre with 1.9 billion impressions in week 4th and 10th April, said the CARE Rating report. Ramayan was originally broadcast from January 25, 1987 to July 31, 1988. Then, every Sunday, at 9.30 a.m. the show was aired on TV. Interestingly, when the serial started airing in the country for the first time, people used to remain glued to the TV sets. Ramayan is the most-watched entertainment show in the world, says Doordarshan

<keyword id="6408304" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="doordarshan">Doordarshan</keyword>, India’s national broadcaster, is getting churned up with Narendra Modi-led government’s emphasis on the state-run media. Doordarshan is set to go global in January next year when it will be beamed free of cost to 120 million homes in Europe and Middle East, as per <keyword id="384646" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Information-and-Broadcasting-Ministry">Information and Broadcasting Ministry</keyword> officials. 
 After the polls in Maharashtra and Haryana, Information and Broadcasting Minister <keyword id="119642" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Prakash-Javadekar">Prakash Javadekar</keyword> will hold the first inter-ministerial meeting of secretaries of ministries of external affairs, information and broadcasting, tourism, culture and home affairs to chalk out the content to be aired in these countries. Prasar Bharati CEO Jawahar Sircar said that a deadline and a consultative group for the project will be decided in the meeting. 
 
"We need to finalise right content to project a new, dynamic India. The new aspirations of India have to be portrayed in a manner that European and Middle Eastern audiences would appreciate and understand. Expert advice of ambassadors who have worked in these countries would be useful, as would be those of TV professionals who have foreign experience," he said. 
 
Doordarshan has also revived a project of digitisation of its terrestrial transmitters.

<ul><li>Indian state-owned broadcaster DD National is all set to broadcast Chhota Bheem starting today. </li><li>The popular animation series will air every afternoon between 2 pm to 2:30 PM on DD National from April 17 to May 3, 2020. </li><li>Indian entertainment channel <keyword id="10822" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pogo">POGO</keyword> which is the creator of the show, partnered with Doordarshan. </li></ul>Doordarshan is leaving no stone unturned to engage millions of people during the lockdown. After bringing back all its popular shows including Ramayana and Mahabharata, DD National is all set to broadcast Chhota Bheem, the cartoon show. POGO, an Indian homegrown kids’ entertainment channel and creator of the show, partnered with public service broadcaster Doordarshan to simulcast Chhota Bheem. “These are challenging times and we believe that POGO’s fun-filled, relatable content will keep kids engaged and entertained. We are very pleased to collaborate with a platform as distinguished and popular as Doordarshan,” said Siddharth Jain, Managing Director of WarnerMedia Entertainment Networks - South Asia. The popular animation features will air every afternoon between 2 pm to 2:30 PM on DD National starting today (April 17). “The agreement ensures that an even larger number of young viewers across the country will be able to enjoy ‘Chhota Bheem’, one of our most prominent shows,” said Jain. Chhota Bheem will be a part of Doordarshan along with Mahabharata’s real Bheem

After the Narendra Modi interview fiasco, <keyword id="6408304" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="doordarshan">Doordarshan</keyword> has decided to back out from telecasting a docu-drama on <keyword id="6355532" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mahatma-Gandhi">Mahatma Gandhi</keyword>’s assassination as the Prasar Bharati board expressed concerns that “it is likely to be inflammatory in nature.” The programme was to depict <keyword id="102381" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nathuram-Godse">Nathuram Godse</keyword>'s trial. 
 The 52-episode serial was withdrawn by director-producer duo <keyword id="35883" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ketan-mehta">Ketan Mehta</keyword> and <keyword id="126820" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Deepa-Sahi">Deepa Sahi</keyword>, owing to time constraints. The Prasar Bharati board felt that focusing the programme only on Gandhi's assassination was not a "very good idea.” The Prasar Bharati board had discussed this in its January meeting. 
 
Recently, Prasar Bharati was heavily criticised for editing Narendra Modi’s remarks on Priyanka Gandhi and Ahmed Patel from an interview. Doordarshan had, however, defended itself, saying there was no “deliberate attempt at editing.” 
 
On the Gandhi serial, the board observed, "Considering that the subject matter spans a relatively short period in the life of Mahatma Gandhi, the proposed number of episodes (52) appears to be on the higher side and could be judiciously pruned. Since the material on the trial of Nathuram Godse is likely to be inflammatory in nature, focusing the programme on the trial is avoidable... It was felt that the theme of the proposed programme could be woven around the various events that happened during the last days of Mahatma Gandhi, including Independence, Partition, the Noakhali tragedy, etc." 
 The board also recommended setting up a committee, including DD director general <keyword id="203386" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tripurari-Sharan">Tripurari Sharan</keyword> and part-time board members <keyword id="33011" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Muzaffar-Ali">Muzaffar Ali</keyword> and Prema Cariappa. "The committee may co-opt any other subject expert, if so required. The committee may also like to interact with Ketan Mehta on the matter while arriving at the final decision," the minutes of the meeting stated. 
 
"There were certain concerns raised by the board. But the proposal was withdrawn by Ketan Mehta, citing his inability to take it further. He later told me he thought the subject may have a better prospect as a film," said Sharan. 
 
Maya Movies’ co-founder Deepa Sahi said, "We have withdrawn from the project for the time being due to time constraints and informed DD." 
 
Godse was executed following a year-long trial. Recently, a play called Mee Nathuram Godse Boltoy was also banned to avoid controversy.

Doordarshan Shelves TV Show On Gandhi’s Assassination

On the occassion of Teachers’ Day, the birth anniversary of Dr S Radhakrishnan, <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> has taken an initiative to connect not only with teachers but with students, too. Prime Minister Narendra <keyword id="6354642" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Modi">Modi</keyword> will address the students from 3:00 pm to 4:45 pm through satellite link and live telecast on <keyword id="6408304" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="doordarshan">Doordarshan</keyword> and the website of the <keyword id="6386485" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Human-Resource-Development">Ministry of Human Resource Development</keyword> (HRD). 
 
Nearly 1,000 students from various schools across Delhi will get the privilege of watching the speech at the Manekshaw Auditorium in New Delhi, which will be broadcast live by all Doordarshan channels to over 18 lakh government and private schools in the country, as well as on radio. Live streaming on the web would also be available. 
 Using the satellite link, the prime minister will also interact with students at National Information Centres in Leh, Port Blair, Silchar (Assam), Imphal, Bhuj (Gujarat), Dantewada (Chhattisgarh) and Thiruvannamalai (Tamil Nadu). However, students of <keyword id="17605" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jammu-and-kashmir">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword> will not be able to listen to Narendra Modi's address as the state government has ordered closure of all the schools in view of heavy rain and floods. 
 
Interestingly, Narendra Modi will also take questions from some students across the country through video-conferencing. Analysts believe the move will strengthen the bond between the Prime Minister and millions of students of the nation.

PM Narendra Modi To Bond With Students On Teachers’ Day

With Ramanand Sagar's popular eighties mythological serial "Ramayan" back on <keyword id="6408304" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="doordarshan">Doordarshan</keyword>, the Indian audience has got a chance to revisit the epic story all over again. The show has set off social media discussion, too. The discussion over the past 24 hours or so has taken a gender-based turn with some viewers calling queen <keyword id="659626" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kaikeyi">Kaikeyi</keyword> a b**ch and hurling abuses at her maid <keyword id="261938" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manthara">Manthara</keyword>. As the badmouthing continued, these two characters incidentally kept trending on Twitter. There has been a debate centred on the feminism quotient in the show, too. While some users felt "Ramayan" did not mete out fair treatment to its female characters, others felt the storyline champions women's empowerment. Hailing the storyline as an instance of women's empowerment, a viewer tweeted: "We were so progressive even 7000 yrs back, its amazing. <keyword id="6427654" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sita">Sita</keyword> was very intelligent &amp; warrior woman. Kaikeyi wasnt only a warrior, she was Saarthi of King Dashrath in Devasur sangram, which was not at all an easy task. True women empowerment. #Ramayan" Another viewer shared: "Seeing Ramayan today, I am reminded of first female drivers were from India. Kaikeyi and Satyabhama." Still others reminded that Kaikeyi was no pushover as a character. "Ramayana and equality. Guys, remember that Kaikeyi was the first woman in combat," a user tweeted. However, not everyone feels that the story upholds "women's empowerment", and not everyone shared kind words for the antagonist Kaikeyi. A viewer opined: "Kaikeyi was a class A b**ch, wasn't she? Asking for her son to be crowned king was alright, but sending Ram to exile was evil at a whole new level.  Another viewer expressed: "Kaikeyi was the most unfortunate character in the entire epic. What a beautiful lesson!" Still another said: "A woman can make or distroy a home. Perfect example - kaikeyi" While one viewer declared that Kaikeyi was a pseudo feminist, several others protested. "Kaikeyi was the first pseudo feminist. #Ramayan," opined the viewer. "Kaikeyi is a good example that a woman can ruin man's life even without Pseudo feminism. #Ramayana #Ayodhyakaand," said the viewer. A social media user made an interesting observation saying "Ramayan" would have had a different perspective altogether if it was penned from the viewpoint of any of the female characters. The tweet reads: "Have you ever not wondered how the story would have unfolded in its own different indifferent manner if the pen was given to Kaikeyi or Manthara, to Urmila or Kaushalya, to Surpnakha or Mandodari?" It has just been a few days since Doordarshan started airing "Ramayan", and one thing is clear: more than three decades later, the show has lost none of its power to remain a talking point, any which way. After DD, Star TV and Sony, Amul takes us on a nostalgia trip with its iconic ads

Friends are for a lifetime. This saying is so true for all of us, even our <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/7-incredible-things-that-we-can-imbibe-from-birthday-boy-Narendra-Modi/articleshow/48987595.cms">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</a>. 
 They were born together, they studied together and today, both of them completed 65 years of their life. We are talking about <keyword id="309904" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Niranjan-Naik">Niranjan Naik</keyword>, a resident of Navrangpura and a retired engineer from <keyword id="6408304" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="doordarshan">Doordarshan</keyword>. 
 
Both Naik and Modi were born on 17th September 1950 in Vadnagar and went to the same school later on. Today, Naik took pride to say that the way Modi has built his career is impressive. 
 
"But Narendra still remembers each friend by name. I haven't met him after he became Prime Minister but I used to click his photos when he came to Ahmedabad to address rallies," he says. 
 
 While recollecting the old days, Naik said that both of them joined Navin Sarvavidyalaya – one of the two schools in Vadnagar in those days—in class 6. 
 
After being a part of RSS local shakha, they studied together till class 12th but opted for different ways afterwards. 
 
Naik also shared a couple of incidents which he cherishes even now. He says, Modi was an attentive student, a good leader and a person with determination. 
 <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> had a fascination for the uniform even as a teenager, said Naik. "Being an NCC cadet, Narendra went all the way to Mehsana to see Army troops getting down at the railway station for the 1965 war with Pakistan," he said. 
 
Not just this, but the incident in which Modi is said to have fought a crocodile, was true. "There were a lot of crocodiles in Sharmistha lake where we used to swim. We were not afraid as we believed that if we did not harm the crocodiles, they would not harm us. Narendra, whom we fondly called ND, used to play with the tiny crocodiles on the riverbank." 
 
Recalling some more incidents Naik said, “I had gone to Bhadrakali temple one day when I saw a man sitting in an auto," said Naik. "It took me some time to realize that it was Narendra with a beard and dark sunglasses." 
 Naik, while working with Aakashvani and Doordarshan met Modi after he became the <keyword id="1203295" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="chief-minister-of-Gujarat">Chief Minister of Gujarat</keyword>. And the erstwhile CM never hid the fact that two of them were friends.

Madhya Pradesh Board cancels online classes for class IX and XII

Mumbai, Apr 16 () The Mumbai Police on Thursday used a bit of '90s nostalgia to drive home the point of social distancing amid the coronavirus lockdown. In a creative arrangement of titles of the popular Doordarshan shows, Mumbai Police shared two images with show titles arranged in a manner which read as an advice for people to follow on their official handle. "A simple message that's been just around the 'Nukkad' for decades. #NotJustNostalgia #TakingOnCorona" they captioned the pictures. "'Dekh Bhai Dekh', there's a 'Mahabharat' happening outside. 'Humlog' won't go to 'Nukkad'. We won't let 'Mungeri Lal Ke Haseen Sapne' turn into 'Flop Show,'" the first picture read. In another image, the Mumbai Police used titles of shows, including Shah Rukh Khan's "Circus" and "Fauji", writing, "'Shrimaan, Shrimati', please don't become 'Karamchand' or 'Byomkesh.' Coronavirus is being fought by 'Fauji', don't step out to do 'Circus.'" DCP Pranay Ashok, spokesperson of Mumbai Police, said it's their endeavour to reach out to people with different themes to give messages and using DD shows was one of the ways. "During the period of lockdown, there is a trend of nostalgic serials like 'Mahabharata', 'Ramayan' and other Doordarshan era serials. By using names of these serials we have appealed Mumbaikars not to come of of their homes and stay safe. "We always use current trends to spread our message to Mumbaikars, which are entertaining and also educating them," Ashok told .
