But that began to shift in 2016 with the appearance on the show of then-candidate Donald Trump.Oz interviewed Trump in September 2016. "It really did have an impact on morale because we felt we had made him more palatable to Middle America and given him a seal of approval," the former producer added of Trump.From talk show guest to game-changing endorsementNow, Trump is Oz's most prominent endorser. Last August, he tapped the doctor over fellow Republican David McCormick, whose wife, Dina Powell, served in the Trump administration. Oz's choice to pursue politics caught many of his employees off guard. "This was somebody who had acquired a great deal of success and financial gain and had already been under public scrutiny — why would someone pursue that on top of the level they had already achieved?" the first former producer asked. Once Oz unveiled his campaign platform, taking a hard line on immigration, abortion, and gun control, and lamenting elites being "all too happy to tell you how to live your life," their questions intensified.The second former producer wondered if Oz really believes in what she called this "kooky, crazy" platform. The last time Capitol Police officers were killed in the line of duty was in 1998 when a gunman killed two officers in the Capitol after bursting through security barriers. President Bill Clinton after the killings ordered flags to be lowered at the White House and other executive buildings in honor of the officers, <a href="https://oklahoman.com/article/2620494/assailant-kills-2-capitol-policemen">reported the Associated Press. </a>Trump had made his support for law enforcement one of the cornerstones of his reelection campaign last year. "He returned to his division office and collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries," said police. Before the riot, Trump addressed the protesters, who had gathered to support his baseless allegations that the election had been stolen from him as a result of mass fraud.The president told them they would have to "fight much harder" and urged them to march on the Capitol, where lawmakers were certifying President-elect Joe Biden's victory. In the Capitol's resulting violence, a Trump supporter, Ashli Babbit, was fatally shot by a police officer and three people died in medical emergencies.
