This year’s data reflects the same trend. Internationally, <keyword id="11905404" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Thailand" source="Orion">Thailand</keyword> has emerged as the leading honeymoon destination for Indian couples in 2023-24, topping honeymoon package bookings on MakeMyTrip. With a notable 5.2% year-on-year (YoY) increase, Thailand has surpassed the Maldives, last year’s favourite, which saw a 16.2% YoY decline in bookings. Meanwhile, the other top international destinations—Indonesia, Mauritius, and Vietnam—also experienced growth in their booking shares this year. Domestically, the Andamans have overtaken Kerala as the most popular honeymoon destination, with a 6.9% year-on-year increase in honeymoon package bookings. Kashmir also rose in popularity, gaining 3.6% in bookings and moving into third place. Bookings for Goa remained steady compared to last year, while Himachal Pradesh experienced a 4% decline. Other regions, including the Northeast, Uttarakhand, and Maharashtra, also attracted Indian couples looking for memorable honeymoon experiences within the country. <h2>Couples going far</h2>Indian honeymooners are exploring far places increasingly drawn to new and diverse destinations. While international spots like Bhutan, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Seychelles have seen significant year-on-year growth in honeymoon package bookings, this trend extends beyond just short-haul destinations. Because of Easy Visa, Japan has seen the highest YoY growth of 388% in honeymoon package booking. Other long-haul destinations that have seen maximum growth for honeymoon package bookings include Scandinavia, the United States, South Africa, and Australia and New Zealand. <h2>Honeymooners from Metro cities going all out to create Insta-worthy memories</h2>Metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore are driving the demand for premium honeymoon packages, contributing to more than two-thirds of all honeymoon package bookings. However, cities such as Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Pune are also seeing a notable shift from budget to premium travel. Couples are ready to spend more on luxury and pampering during their honeymoon. The average spending per couple has gone up by 13% compared to last year. In fact, 68% of newlyweds booked 4-star or 5-star hotels for their stay. One in every five honeymoon bookings was for a 5-star property in 2023-24, showing a 10% increase from the previous year. Newlyweds are not only spending more on comfort and luxury but are also increasingly choosing to visit multiple destinations during their honeymoon. Domestically, the number of couples visiting four or more cities increased from 35% in 2022-23 to 39% in 2023-24. Internationally, while more than half of honeymooners still prefer visiting just one city, the percentage of couples choosing to explore two or more cities grew from 32% to 47%. <h2>Personalised experiences demand all-time high</h2>Couples are seeking more personalised and romantic experiences than ever before. Honeymoon package bookings have grown by 25% compared to last year, showing that many couples want a fully planned, curated experience. Over 95% of honeymoon bookings this year included special activities. As a result, MMT saw a 56% increase in bookings for premium romantic activities like couples' photoshoots, romantic dinners, cruises (sunset, dinner, or catamaran), spa sessions, and floating breakfasts. <h2>Couples booking packages last minute</h2>The report also adds that Indian couples are booking their honeymoons closer to their travel dates. For domestic packages, 56% were booked within 30 days of departure, and 38% were booked the same way for international packages. This matches the overall trend of Indian travellers, who usually book closer to their travel dates. However, 31% of couples travelling internationally booked their honeymoon more than two months in advance, compared to just 18% for domestic trips. To gain more insights, MakeMyTrip also surveyed over 200 people who booked their honeymoon packages through the platform. The survey revealed that 70% of couples went on their honeymoon within 10 days of their wedding, 10% travelled between 10 days to a month later, and 20% waited more than a month to go.

A Polish charter flight is also set to arrive in the coastal state on November 8. The statement added that this international interest extends beyond Goa’s iconic beaches, with tourists increasingly exploring areas like Dudhsagar Falls and scenic hinterlands. To further boost connectivity, Goa is collaborating with airlines and seeking government support to improve flight routes, creating a more globally connected tourism landscape. "However, establishing robust direct international connectivity requires further support from the Government of India, which we are actively seeking to make Goa an even more attractive, accessible, and globally connected destination," a spokesperson said. He added that after pandemic disruptions, Goa’s international tourism is rebounding, with over 450,000 foreign arrivals recorded in 2023. Alongside domestic visitors, totaling over 8 million this year, the state’s tourism sector is also thriving. Addressing challenges like limited direct flights, Goa’s tourism officials are working to secure new airline agreements, ensuring an easier journey for international visitors. When he went abroad for work, our family would often accompany him.We moved back to the UK when I was six months old, but when I was four and a half, we moved to Tanzania for a year and a half. Before I'd turned nine, we'd also lived in Kenya for a year and Ghana for eight months.We settled back in the UK around the time my older sister had to start secondary school. My parents decided we'd stop traveling as a family, and my dad would carry on by himself. He took another job in <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/indonesia-new-capital-city-nusantara-when-will-it-be-ready-2024-8">Indonesia</a>, and when I was 10 and 11, I spent two summers there with him and also visited him in Nepal when he worked there a few months later.I'm grateful for the childhood I had, but it made me accustomed to a short-term lifestyle. I struggled to adjust when we moved back to the UK, where I spent the rest of my childhood. I'd advise parents <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/american-who-raised-kids-abroad-what-it-was-like-china-2023-9">raising kids abroad</a> to help their children maintain long-term friendships and hobbies.<h2 id="eafa8bbd-60cd-4bfa-ae5f-51393bf79fdf">Our expat lifestyle showed me how hard life can be in other parts of the world</h2>When we lived abroad, our mom stayed at home with us while our dad worked.Though we periodically spent time in England growing up, my memories of Africa are much clearer. I do remember UK winters — huddling up in a dressing gown and turning the TV on.In Africa, we were outside most of the time. In both <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tanzania-student-visited-north-korea-summer-camp-kids-enjoyed-it-2024-7">Tanzania</a> and Kenya, we lived very close to the sea and swam a lot.We were part of a large <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/bali-raising-kids-crowded-tourists-expats-2024-9">community of expats</a> in Tanzania — I attended a small school for expat children.I understood we were visitors from England and not in our own country. In Tanzania, we lived close to a mud hut village, and I knew the residents lived differently from us. I made friends with one of the village girls called Tatu, who was around my age, but lost interest in the friendship after a while because she had to work so hard at home.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/british-expat-bought-one-way-ticket-to-singapore-2024-8">Being expats</a> and having a certain lifestyle handed on a plate to us, we always had people working in the house, like cooks and a housekeeper, but I don't think this sheltered me from the reality of domestic work. My parents did most of the cooking, but in Tanzania, we had a domestic worker who prepared a simple lunch for us.I saw how hard life was for our house helper's family. They lived with 10 to 15 people in a house that was no bigger than our house with four people. It made me aware of inequalities in the world. Now, as an adult, I often feel more knowledgeable about news in remote areas than in the developed world.<h2 id="7a3b450e-fe80-4737-9230-ba8960e33314">A childhood of traveling wasn't as glamorous as people think and I struggled with life back in the UK</h2>People always ask me how amazing my childhood must have been.It really was amazing, and I'm grateful for the experiences I had, but it wasn't as glamorous as people imagine.We did have hired help, but we weren't waited on full-time. We dealt with snakes, and I caught malaria when I was eight in Ghana.Going back and forth between Africa and the UK was challenging. When we returned from <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/friends-spent-money-celebrate-40th-birthday-trip-ghana-worth-it-2024-8">Ghana</a>, the British winter was bitter and freezing. I really struggled.I loved school in Africa. We had short days and finished at lunchtime. In the UK, the school system felt more rigid. I didn't understand what was expected of me — being told to stand behind our chairs and filing into assemblies felt very regimented. For weeks, I cried about it.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/making-friends-older-age-how-make-new-connections-2024-6">Making friends</a> wasn't difficult because I was used to adjusting to new places, but most of my friendships only lasted a short time, and I'd never see them again when we moved away.It instilled a notion in me that everything is short-term, so I'd give up on things easily.Back in the UK, I took up swimming. I loved it for a while, but when the winter mornings became too cold and dark, I quit. I tried dance, but because it involved getting on a bus on my own as a 10-year-old, I quit that too. I'd done so many things that lasted a short period of time, so quitting things seemed normal to me and my family.I'm a parent now, and my daughters dance. Seeing them progress and how far I could have gone makes me regret my choice. But I've since learned the value of seeing things through. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/only-child-had-multiple-under-3-years-2024-9">Having children</a>, which is a project for life, played a big role in that.<h2 id="9ec0c78b-d678-4b67-b8fb-c5a882ba2559">My advice to expat parents is to help your kids keep up long-term friendships and hobbies</h2>Because of my upbringing, I'm a confident traveler. When I was 26, I <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/family-moved-from-uk-to-france-have-no-regrets-2024-6">moved to France</a> for three years. I've also taken my children on trips to see the world. We've been to India and France and have done road trips over the summers. But we always return to our home in Devon, England, where I work as a freelance writer and editor.Being rooted and having a place to call home has been very important to me as an adult. I don't have some unquenched need to satisfy, perhaps because I've traveled a lot already.When I traveled to India, I met <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/finland-happiest-country-in-the-world-immigrants-2024-3">expat couples</a> who decided to live there full-time. They set up businesses there, and during monsoon seasons, they'd travel to other locations. The idea of doing that with children terrified me. Because of my childhood experiences, I couldn't bear to travel several times a year while maintaining an education and social life for my kids. I wanted them to have stable friend circles and activities they could keep doing.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/i-moved-back-to-india-after-living-abroad-for-decade-2024-9">Living abroad</a> is a wonderful thing to do, but one piece of advice I have for parents is to try to help their kids keep up friendships they've made through writing or meeting up later in life. And if you're moving between different places, make arrangements for your child to continue doing activities they love.My upbringing made me self-reliant, which can be a valuable trait, but a negative impact is I've become someone who dips in and out of friendships and communities. I'm not a rotten friend, but I struggle to be consistent and value community projects.Instilling a sense of longevity into your kids' lives is a valuable thing to do. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Russia's consumer sentiment hit a high in June as its wartime economy boosted spending.</li><li>The sentiment index has risen since April 2022, despite the Ukraine invasion.</li></ul>Russian consumers are spending large and feeling big about their finances.In June, Russia's consumer sentiment hit a high not seen since the 2000s, according to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.levada.ru/en/ratings/socio-economic-indicators/">Levada Center, Russia's last major independent pollster.</a>Levada's consumer sentiment index has been moving steadily upward since April 2022, barely two months after Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022.Despite sweeping sanctions, Russia's economy has appeared resilient due to growth generated by driven by wartime state spending on military activities and subsidies.This growth is majorly <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-economy-ukraine-war-winners-wealth-redistribution-social-mobility-putin-2024-6">boosting incomes</a> in Russia amid a severe labor crunch partly due to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-economy-population-decline-worker-shortage-growth-outlook-ukraine-war-2024-8">its shrinking population.</a><h2 id="62fdb67d-76a5-40b8-85df-dfebf3c4dcc0">Russian consumers are on a spending spree</h2><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-economic-growth-slowed-q2-amid-concerns-of-overheating-2024-8">Russia's GDP grew 4%</a> in the second quarter of this year from a year ago. It's a slowdown from the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-economic-growth-slowed-q2-amid-concerns-of-overheating-2024-8">5.4% growth logged in the first quarter,</a> but it's still robust growth. In contrast, the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bea.gov/data/gdp/gross-domestic-product">US economy</a> grew 2.8% in the second quarter of this year.Russia's booming economy has boosted <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russian-economy-overheating-consumer-spending-tourism-central-bank-interest-rate-2024-7">consumer spending,</a> in particular on culture, hotels, transportation services, and personal services, according to a <a target="_blank" rel=" nofollow" class="" href="https://www.ft.com/content/3e2b2e63-082e-4058-ba92-dea580d4f40c">Financial Times</a> analysis of official data last month.<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russian-economy-overheating-consumer-spending-tourism-central-bank-interest-rate-2024-7">According to the FT, consumption per capita</a> in Russia increased by more than 20% from 2021 to 2023. In particular, spending on travel surged more than 90% thanks to a boost from domestic tourism.Last year, Russia's imports of cognac and sparkling wine surged 18% and 80% from 2019, respectively, according to an estimate from the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.economist.com/finance-and-economics/2024/08/11/vladimir-putin-spends-big-and-sends-russias-economy-soaring">Economist media outlet.</a>Broadly, "consumption is booming due to a combination of massive budget spending and labor force shortages leading to strong wage pressures," Bartosz Sawicki, a market analyst at the fintech Conotoxia, wrote in a note last month.<h2 id="6a011a47-d493-4e5f-ab2c-9b884cd2ded6">Economic growth could halve in the second half of 2024</h2>The good times are unlikely to last.Economists polled by <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-08-09/russia-braces-for-war-driven-economy-to-run-out-of-steam">Bloomberg</a> expect growth to slow to about 2% over the second half of the year.The current boom is "a last growth spurt before Russia's economy starts to markedly cool," said Alex Isakov, an economist covering Russia at Bloomberg Economics.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russian-economy-overheating-consumer-spending-tourism-central-bank-interest-rate-2024-7">Russia's central bank</a> recently hiked rates to 18% in an attempt to cool inflation as the economy sees "considerable" overheating.Such high rates mean consumer spending, too, could cool."'Civilian' industries are unlikely to be in a good place to serve as a substitute driver for growth as more consumers face the reality of borrowing at 20% rates or above," said Isakov.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Recent aviation accidents have claimed the lives of Iran's president and Malawi's vice president. </li><li>But Russia says Vladimir Putin is safe if he travels on their "very reliable" domestic aircraft.</li></ul>A Russian official says the country's leader, Vladimir Putin, won't get caught in a plane crash if he travels on domestic aircraft, state news agency <a target="_blank" href="https://tass.com/economy/1802193">TASS</a> reported on Tuesday."The Russian president uses domestic aircraft. These are very reliable vehicles," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists.Peskov was speaking at a press briefing when he was asked about the recent aviation accidents that claimed the lives of Iranian President <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/iran-president-ebrahim-raisi-dead-helicopter-crash-2024-5">Ebrahim Raisi</a> and Malawi's Vice President <a target="_blank" href="https://edition.cnn.com/2024/06/11/africa/malawi-vice-president-saulos-chilima-killed-intl/index.html">Saulos Chilima</a>.Raisi was flying over northwestern Iran when his helicopter crashed on May 19. Iran's foreign minister, the governor of Iran's East Azerbaijan province, and other officials were also on board the helicopter. <a target="_blank" href="https://en.irna.ir/photo/85483524/Martyr-Ayatollah-Seyyed-Ebrahim-Raisi-over-time">No one survived the deadly incident</a>.Chilima, meanwhile, was killed in a plane crash along with nine other passengers on Tuesday. Malawi's President Lazarus Chakwera said Chilima's plane was found "<a target="_blank" href="https://apnews.com/article/malawi-missing-plane-vice-president-chilima-c071c832931d7cfeae92f9bb1c199075">completely destroyed</a>" near a hill in northern Malawi.However, Peskov said such incidents were unlikely to occur with Russian aircraft, given what he said were Russia's rigorous safety standards."All machinery in our country that transports citizens is also maintained at the proper level. There are very strict standards in this regard, which are, of course, observed," Peskov said."We have monitoring agencies," he continued. "The system works."To be sure, Russia doesn't exactly have the best record when it comes to flight safety.In February, the Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre (JACDEC) revealed that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russian-planes-safety-incidents-maintenance-sanctions-spare-parts-2024-2">Russian flight safety incidents have more than doubled in the past year</a>, going from 37 cases in 2022 to 81 in 2023.The Russian aviation industry's flight safety problems are in large part due to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-economy-putin-solve-trilemma-wartime-economy-gdp-prokopenko-2023-12">crippling economic sanctions</a> the West imposed following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.Such restrictions have made it difficult for Russia's airlines to maintain their aircraft since they can't buy new planes or parts.In fact, the number of flight safety incidents in Russia might be much higher, says JACDEC founder and CEO Jan-Arwed Richter."These numbers only reflect cases that became public. There is still a dark figure of unreported incidents," Richter told <a target="_blank" href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2024/02/12/russias-planes-fall-apart-western-sanctions-airline-repairs/">The Telegraph</a> in February.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Adults are increasingly attached to their devices and are almost constantly online, study shows.</li><li>Many are turning to the tourism industry to force themselves to disconnect and relax on vacation.</li></ul>Six years ago, I spent ten days without my phone at a meditation retreat in Thailand. The experience was so refreshing that I felt like I had a new brain. I vowed to use my phone less, but unfortunately, the habit didn't stick. My phone usage has skyrocketed in the years since, sometimes clocking ten hours of screen time.Planning a wedding and buying an apartment in the same month brought my digital dependence to new heights. On a recent trip to a <a target="_blank" href="https://killiehuntly.scot/">Scottish cabin</a> advertised as somewhere to "stay where the world can't find you," I tried to go tech-free and reset. With an itinerary of fly fishing and hiking, I thought it would be easy to unplug.I was wrong. The days were fine, but right before bed, I couldn't stop myself from scrolling through my email and notifications. I felt disheartened by my failed attempt to unplug.<h2 id="d4856187-6b2c-4308-bb8b-c3861f3e350d">62% of adults aged 18 to 29 say they're constantly online </h2>Being unable to put your phone down, even on vacation, is becoming increasingly common. In 2024, a study by the Pew Research Center surveyed nearly <a target="_blank" href="https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/2024/01/31/americans-use-of-mobile-technology-and-home-broadband/">6,000 US adults on their tech usage</a>. 62% of participants between 18 and 29 said they are almost constantly online.In response to this constant online-ness, people also want to disconnect completely, especially while on vacation. Global search interest for "digital detox retreat" has increased by 50% in the past year. No longer beholden to emails and Slacks, vacations are the perfect time to shut down devices, and people are turning to the tourism industry to help them.<h2 id="324f24ff-6611-474d-9e8b-387488fb6692">People are turning to the tourism industry to help them unplug</h2>Property managers and tour operators are offering unplugged trips and tech-free destinations to meet this demand. <a target="_blank" href="https://unplugged.rest/">Unplugged</a> is a cabin company in the UK offering "digital detox" long weekends in nature. Guests can use their phones to navigate to their Unplugged cabins, but once they arrive, they're expected to lock their phones in a box for their trip. The cabins have a paper map, a Polaroid camera for travelers, and a retro Nokia phone for emergencies."The key we found is to give people all the things that they might need their phone for," said Hector Hughes, CEO of Unplugged. The company launched in 2020 and has 23 cabins and a 94% occupancy rate since July last year, marking a 209% increase in bookings over the previous 12 months, according to Hughes.Group travel operator <a target="_blank" href="https://www.ftlotravel.com/phone-free-trips">For The Love of Travel (FTLO)</a> ran its first phone-free trip this February and a second in April, and five more are listed on its site through 2025. For FTLO, the trips become "phone-free" once you arrive at the first hotel and meet your tour operator, who manages the logistics for the rest of the journey.FTLO CEO Tara Cappel said guests are asked to leave their phones in their hotel safe or at the bottom of their bags when the group is together. "We're also obviously not controlling whether people are going back to the rooms and getting on their phones. It's an honor policy." According to Cappel, their first two trips were filled, and all guests expressed interest in another "phone-free" trip.She acknowledged that tech-free travel hasn't become completely mainstream, "People are still a little intimidated by the idea." Hughes told BI, "Many people haven't switched their phones off for years," Hughes added. "People experience phantom buzzes and find themselves searching for their phone instinctively before remembering it's locked in a box."<h2 id="b3abbc45-e1fb-489d-879d-2b2b74fd172d">The reasons for going phone-free when traveling vary</h2>One popular motivation is for couples to spend quality time with their partners. Hughes told BI that 80% of their guests are couples.Elena Mnayarji, an MBA student at Berkeley, went on a phone-free honeymoon with her husband in Mallorca last summer. She said she didn't plan it but wanted to disconnect after a busy wedding. "By the time we got to Mallorca, I was exhausted and really needed to shut my brain off." When she arrived in Mallorca, she turned her phone off and put it in a drawer at their hotel for their entire trip. Not checking her phone was difficult, but Elena was happy that she committed to it. "For the first couple hours, it was a little tough," she said. "But I felt a lot less anxious." She also said her husband felt more connected to her.<h2 id="0c543866-3955-403b-83c8-e9ddc90b224c">Phone-free travel can also help with burnout</h2>Last summer, nonprofit strategist Izzy Doonan did a tech-free week-long trip in the Cascades with her partner and another couple. They wouldn't have cell service, so they embraced the opportunity to get offline. "As the trip got closer, we all realized how burnt out we were. It was fitting to take a trip without our phones and really unplug," Doonan said. As soon as they drove into the park and lost service, the group put their phones in the glove compartment of their car and didn't use them until they left the park."A lot of the nerves were from our parents because they wouldn't be able to contact us," said Doonan, who wasn't personally concerned. "I felt quite safe in the confines of a national park," she said, adding they had a car and other campers were around. "I would 1,000% do it again."<h2 id="a4175990-8683-44be-94c9-7291952c55c5">Logistics of traveling phone-free</h2>Traveling phone-free does pose some logistical issues. "One concern that was brought up was that people's families back home were worried," said Cappel. FTLO provides the trip leaders' phone numbers and full itineraries with contact information to travelers to share with whoever might need it. Mnayarji echoed, "I would recommend people tell their family if they're going to go phone-free. My mom was freaking out, so I had to text her from my husband's phone."For both FTLO and Unplugged, you can use your phone to help you navigate to the destination and then are asked to put your phone away. Traveling domestically, bringing an emergency prepaid phone, or traveling with a tour operator in charge of the logistics are ways to make your tech-free trip as safe as possible.Cappel said, "Committing to a multi-day phone-free trip is a lot, but if people can start with an afternoon and leave their phone in their hotel for the day, it's a great way to start and realize it's really doable."

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Many Americans are prioritizing travel despite concerns about the economy.</li><li>Labor Day weekend domestic travel is projected by AAA to be up 9% year over year.</li></ul>Americans are increasingly seeing <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.forbes.com/advisor/credit-cards/travel-rewards/survey-travel-plans-2024/">travel as a need rather than a want</a>, with many people willing to cut back in other areas — or even <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/genz-millennials-going-into-debt-summer-vacation-travel-taylor-swift-2024-6">go into debt</a> — before giving up vacation altogether.Rod Griffin, senior director of public education and advocacy at Experian, said even though many Americans are worried about the economy, they're still traveling."They're just looking for ways to make it more affordable, or at least reduce the costs," he told Business Insider.After a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/millennial-gen-z-travel-debt-affirm-klarna-credit-cards-2024-8">booming summer travel season</a>, AAA estimates domestic travel over Labor Day weekend is up 9% from last year, while international travel is down 4%, according to their booking numbers. AAA said the shift is driven in part by inflation, which has made trips abroad 11% more expensive.Griffin said he's spoken to consumers who are paying closer attention to their options when it comes to making travel more affordable and that includes rethinking how to travel domestically, like by taking <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/road-trip-destinations-families-hidden-gems-usa-2024-8">road trips</a>.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.experian.com/blogs/ask-experian/research/survey-road-trip-expenses/">Experian survey data</a> from May found that 71% of consumers surveyed felt that inflation impacted their road trip plans. The survey respondents included 1,008 insured drivers, who, on average, said they expected to spend more than $1,000 on road trip expenses. Gas, lodging, and food were the expenses respondents expected to spend the most on during their trip.Griffin said there are various ways consumers say they are cutting back on <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/road-trip-food-stops-in-every-state">road trip</a> costs, from opting for less expensive hotels to packing lunches rather than stopping for every meal to taking group trips that enable cost splitting.Some Americans are also taking trips that aren't as far away in order to save on gas but still get quality family time in."People are looking at, not a staycation, but a closer to home vacation, as opposed to going cross country" in order to save on fuel and lodging, he said.In some cases, like if you are a couple traveling in an area with higher gas prices, it may even be cheaper to fly rather than drive, so weighing those options is another way to ensure you're opting for the most affordable option.Travel-minded Americans can also focus on the bigger picture of their finances in order to out aside more money for travel, Griffin said. For families who rely on road trips, keeping up with car maintenance can avoid costly and unexpected vacation expenses.Experian said three out of four surveyed consumers said they were worried about car insurance rates increasing, so Griffin said another option is to shop around for lower rates, noting that Experian has an insurance marketplace that can be used."Reduce overall costs that affect that budget in the long term," he said.Americans can also focus on utilizing their credit card points or actively seeking out a credit card that comes with rewards for common <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-consumer-spending-international-travel-entertainment-surge-savings-2024-3">travel expenses.</a>The key thing to saving money on road trips is to plan ahead, Griffin said, and to set a budget and stick with it.
