Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Association leader Kolanthaisamy, told IANS that "The rising prices of cotton seeds will also affect ordinary farmers who have a few cows, not just big dairy farmers. The scarcity of cotton seeds is having an impact on farmers." P.M. Mukundan, who owns Sree Krishna dairy farms in Tirupur, told IANS, "The lack of availability of cotton seeds has affected the cattle feed; we used to get cotton from Dindigul, Palani, Kumbakonam, and other areas. However, high prices of cotton seeds following the hike in prices of cotton have led to an increase in prices of cattle feed. This is affecting us badly and I don't know how to run the farm." The dairy farmers of Tirupur area are worried that the unprecedented hike will directly affect the production of milk. Farmers who have five to ten cows are affected the most as most have three or four labourers who charge Rs 600 per day and with the increase in the price of cattle feed, the venture goes into a loss. Cotton seed price rise is making life tough for dairy farmers who use it as cattle feed

FMCG company Ruchi Soya, which was taken over by <keyword id="6355107" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Baba-Ramdev">Baba Ramdev</keyword>'s <keyword id="6356684" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="patanjali">Patanjali</keyword> Ayurveda under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), plans to go ahead with a further public offering (FPO) in a bid to raise more funds. The move would also allow the company to meet SEBI's minimum public shareholding norms. In a regulatory filing on Sunday, Ruchi Soya said that the Issue Committee, constituted by the board, on June 12 approved the raising of funds and also approved the draft red herring prospectus to be filed with the capital market regulator. "We wish to inform you that the Issue committee constituted and authorised by the Board of Directors of the Company, by way of a circular resolution dated June 12, 2021, has approved (i) raising of funds by way of further public offer of equity shares of the Company and (ii) the Draft Red Herring Prospectus dated June 12, 2021 ('DRHP') for filing with Securities and Exchange Board of India ('SEBI') and BSE Limited and National Stock Exchange of India Limited," it said. Industry sources suggested that the company has filed the draft prospectus with SEBI and may raise around Rs 4,300 crore through the FPO. The share issue would also help the company achieve the SEBI's minimum public shareholding norms. As per the data on the BSE website, as of March 31, 2021, promoters held 98.90 per cent shares in the company. At the end of the day's trade on Friday, shares of Ruchi Soya on the BSE were at Rs 1,242.35, higher by Rs 3.50, or 0.28 per cent, from its previous close. "Bharti Airtel...and Ericsson...today demonstrated a throughput of over 1 GBPS on Bharti's live 5G trial network in Gurgaon's Cyber Hub," Ericsson confirmed. Sources said Airtel has lit up its 5G trial network in Cyber Hub, Gurgaon, and that the site is operating in the 3500 MHz band as per Telecom Department norms, and delivering throughput of over 1 Gbps. To put a perspective, 1GBPS would download a full 4k movie in less than a minute. Airtel has been allotted 5G trial spectrum in 3500 MHz, 28 GHz and 700 MHz in <keyword id="66" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword> NCR, Mumbai, <keyword id="6354925" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="kolkata">Kolkata</keyword> and Bengaluru. Telecom operators have been allocated spectrum in 700 Mhz bands, 3.3-3.6 gigahertz (Ghz) band and 24.25-28.5 Ghz band across various locations. Microsoft to end Windows 10 support in October 2025, new version to be unveiled this month

A year-long study of the <keyword id="749867" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dietary-habits" source="Orion">dietary habits</keyword> of 9,341 Australians has backed growing evidence that highly processed and refined foods are the leading contributor to rising obesity rates in the Western world. The new study, in the latest issue of the journal Obesity conducted by the University of Sydney's Charles Perkins Centre (CPC), was based on a national nutrition and physical activity survey undertaken by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), and further backs the '<keyword id="15478813" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="protein-leverage-hypothesis" source="Orion">Protein Leverage Hypothesis</keyword>'. First put forward in 2005 by professors Raubenheimer and Stephen Simpson, the Protein Leverage Hypothesis argues that people overeat fats and carbohydrates because of the body's strong appetite for protein, which the body actively favours over everything else. Because so much of modern diets consist of highly processed and refined foods -- which are low in protein -- people are driven to consume more energy-dense foods until they satisfy their protein demand. "As people consume more junk foods or highly processed and refined foods, they dilute their dietary protein and increase their risk of being overweight and obese, which we know increases the risk of chronic disease," said lead author Dr Amanda Grech, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the CPC and the university's School of Life and Environmental Sciences. "It's increasingly clear that our bodies eat to satisfy a protein target," added Professor David Raubenheimer, the Leonard Ullmann Chair in Nutritional Ecology at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences. "But the problem is that the food in Western diets has increasingly less protein. So, you have to consume more of it to reach your protein target, which effectively elevates your daily energy intake. "Humans, like many other species, have a stronger appetite for protein than for the main energy-providing nutrients of fats and carbohydrates. That means that if the protein in our diet is diluted with fats and carbohydrates, we will eat more energy to get the protein that our bodies crave." Proteins are the building blocks of life: every cell in the body contains them, and they are used to repair cells or make new ones; and it's estimated that over a million forms of protein are needed to allow a human body to function. Protein sources include meats, milk, fish, eggs, soy, legumes, beans, and some grains such as wheat germ and quinoa. The University of Sydney scientists analysed data from a cross-sectional survey of nutrition and physical activity in 9,341 adults, known as the National Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey which was conducted from May 2011 to June 2012, with a mean age of 46.3 years. They found the population's mean energy intake was 8,671 kilojoules (kJ), with the mean percentage of energy from protein being just 18.4 percent, compared with 43.5 percent from carbohydrates and from 30.9 percent from fat, and just 2.2 percent from fibre and 4.3 percent from alcohol. They then plotted energy intake versus the time of consumption and found that the pattern matched that predicted by the Protein Leverage Hypothesis. Those who consumed lower amounts of protein in their first meal of the day went on to increase their overall food intake in subsequent meals, whereas those who received the recommended amount of protein did not -- and, in fact, declined their food intake throughout the day. They also found a statistically significant difference between groups by the third meal of the day: those with a higher proportion of energy from protein at the start of the day had much lower total energy intake for the day. Meanwhile, those who consumed foods low in protein at the start of the day proceeded to increase consumption, indicating they were seeking to compensate with a higher consumption of overall energy. This is despite the fact the first meal was the smallest for both groups, with the least amount of energy and food consumed, whereas the last meal was the largest. Participants with a lower proportion of protein than recommended at the first meal consumed more discretionary foods -- energy-dense foods high in saturated fats, sugars, salt, or alcohol -- throughout the day, and less of the recommended five food groups (grains; vegetables/legumes; fruit; dairy and meats). Consequently, they had an overall poorer diet at each mealtime, with their percentage of protein energy decreasing even as their discretionary food intake rose -- an effect the scientists call 'protein dilution'. <ul><li>Spencer's is trailing behind <keyword id="964794" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BigBasket">BigBasket</keyword> in terms of revenue, despite its heavy offline presence.</li><li>Revenue of Spencer’s was 30% less than online grocery delivery startup BigBasket in the financial year 2020.</li><li>BigBasket may record its best financial performance in 2021, whereas Spencer’s has reported a decrease in sales.</li></ul>The year 2020 has been a game changer for India Inc. in many aspects. From shopping to working, everything has taken a digital spin and the debate of ‘online vs offline’ has been getting much stronger. Thirty two-year old Spencer’s Retail, one of the prominent retail chains in India ⁠— owned by RP Sanjiv Goenka group ⁠— reported its annual financial report and it was a fairly decent one. The business was surely affected by the Covid-induced lockdown in the first quarter of fiscal year 2021 (FY21), but was flourishing the rest of the year. Yet, its revenue dipped 7% to ₹2,481 crore and losses widened to ₹163.8 crore. This really got us wondering how the company fares in comparison to other players in the grocery segment -- both online and offline. Online grocers are cumulatively the third largest player in the market behind DMart and <keyword id="58448" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Retail">Reliance Retail</keyword>, according to a report dated June 4 from the broking firm Motilal Oswal. BigBasket is the biggest of that lot. What’s more shocking is the fact that BigBasket, just 10 years old in the market, earns more revenue than Spencer’s. The comparison between BigBasket and Spencer’s may be of apples and oranges, but it is definitely an interesting one. The three-decade-old Spencer’s, which has a strong presence across 191 stores across 42 cities, earned almost 30% less than a decade-old online grocery business BigBasket in FY20. Being the biggest player in the online grocery space, the company has doubled its daily deliveries to 3 lakh compared to pre-Covid days. The company claims to have clocked a gross sale of ₹8,000 crore ($1.1 billion) in FY21. Though BigBasket is yet to report its financial statement for FY21, Business Insider has mailed the company seeking more details of their financial performance. It is expected to be the strongest one yet at least in terms of the revenue growth. No wonder, Tata Group was <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/tata-tryst-with-e-grocery-starts-with-a-billion-dollar-acquisition-of-bigbasket-heres-why-it-could-be-a-sweet-deal-for-both/articleshow/81478849.cms">compelled</a> to acquire BigBasket in order to pursue its Super App dreams. Spencer’s, on the other hand, has reported receding revenue and widening loss during FY21. Though the company did test out a hybrid model by experimenting with online delivery in partnership with Dunzo and Uber last year, that doesn’t seem to have made much of a difference for the company either. The company had been burning cash ever since its inception in 2011 and is nowhere close to profitability. Currently, India has about 154 million transacting households. Of which, 130 million are already using online grocery solutions, creating an addressable market of $293 billion. Historically, the e-grocery segment has garnered a single-digit share of the overall organised grocery market in India, but 2020 brought these online grocery solutions to the forefront as stepping out of the house was no less than a health hazard, due to the pandemic. Not only Spencer’s, but other traditional retail players like DMart and BigBazaar were compelled to take up an omnichannel approach and started taking online mode of ordering in partnerships with logistics and transportation players like Uber, Ola, Dunzo, Rapido and more.
