With the surge in Covid cases amid the rising demand for <keyword id="52785" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Syringes">syringes</keyword> during the ongoing vaccination drive in <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>, Hindustan Syringes and <keyword id="6359358" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="medical-devices">Medical Devices</keyword> (<keyword id="2118630" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HMD">HMD</keyword>) on Sunday said that the company will invest over ₹100 crore to expand its <keyword id="69910" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Production-capacity">production capacity</keyword> from 2.5 billion syringes to over 3 billion.<br /><br />Rajiv Nath, Managing Director, HMD told that the company not only needs to invest in production lines of syringes-moulds, moulding machines, printing and assembly packaging, etc. but also in needle assembly, needles point grinding, recruiting workers and training them.<br /><br />"Our current production capacity is over 2.7 billion syringes per annum of disposable and auto-disable syringes are approximately 90 lakhs daily. And we are investing over ₹100 crore to ramp up capacity from 2.5 billion syringes to over 3 billion by next quarter," Nath informed.<br /><br />The medical syringe major recently received an order for the supply of 265 million auto <keyword id="11043140" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="disable-syringes">disable syringes</keyword> from the Union government. The company has allocated two-thirds of its production capacity for the government orders, and the balance for global UN customers.<br /><br />HMD ships out 0.1 ml and 0.5 ml auto disposable Kojak syringes for global vaccination projects in the developing world, for yellow fever, measles, hepatitis B and others.<br /><br />This is in addition to Covid-19 vaccination requirements of 0.3 ml for Pfizer's vaccines or 0.5 ml auto-disable Kojak for AstraZeneca/Serum Institute of India (SII) or Bharat Biotech vaccines.<br /><br />According to Nath, HMD has been practicing the government's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative for decades by making their components.<br /><br />"We do share the Prime Minister's vision and quest for an Atmanirbhar Bharat. It is in our DNA," Nath said.<br /><br />"It is another matter that government policies in the last 10 years favour imports of medical devices and components. So it's no more a competitive advantage to produce these components in India," he added.<br /><br />The company said that it is also facing few challenges in the process of production and supply due to the pandemic.<br /><br />"Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the delivery of moulds and machines from Indian and international suppliers is getting delayed by 1 to 3 months and with severe travel restrictions in many countries, we have to install the machines on our own as foreign technicians are not available which further delays commercial utilisation too," Nath noted.<br /><br />The company has received orders for 240 million Kojak syringes for COVAX via UNICEF and 79 million for Brazil for Dispovan syringes via PAHO.<br /><br />"We had also shipped 140 million Kojak syringes to Covid-19 Vaccine Global Access (COVAX) last December. We have recently sold 15 million syringes to the Japanese government. Hindustan Syringes and Medical Devices (HMD)to invest over ₹100 crore to ramp up syringe production

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Cat Gomez had a pretty standard twin pregnancy up until four months before her due date. </li><li>One twin was measuring smaller, and they were born at 22 weeks. </li></ul><p>When Cat Gomez takes her baby son for a walk, people stop to ask how many weeks old he is. At 8 pounds, 5 ounces, he looks like a newborn, but Oliver is more than 6 months old.</p><p>He's <a href="https://www.insider.com/worlds-smallest-premature-baby-saybie-released-from-hospital-2019-5">one of the most</a> <a href="https://www.insider.com/mom-relives-sons-time-at-nicu-on-birthday-every-year-2022-6">premature babies</a> ever born in Britain and living proof of how medical advances are giving extremely <a href="https://www.insider.com/minnesota-baby-worlds-most-premature-baby-turned-1-2021-6">early arrivals</a> a chance at life.</p><p>Delivered at 22 weeks and three days gestation, Oliver weighed 14 ounces — lighter than a can of beans.</p><p>Doctors warned his parents that their micropreemie's chances of survival were as tiny as he was, but his will to live was enormous.</p><p>He is especially precious to Gomez and her fiancé, Tom Longstaff, because Oliver's identical twin brother, Joseph, lived for only four days.</p><p>"We had prepared ourselves for the worst, but Oliver had so much fight," Gomez told Insider. "We couldn't be prouder."</p><h2>Scans showed one twin was smaller than the other</h2><p>The couple from York, England, were surprised but delighted in fall to discover they were expecting twins.</p><p>The pregnancy was textbook until Gomez fell ill more than four months ahead of her due date. A scan showed Oliver was measuring smaller than his brother and their amniotic sac might be leaking. The mother was taken to a hospital that had two cots ready for neonatal intensive care, but the outlook was bleak.</p><p>Before 2019, British neonatal specialists did not recommend giving life-saving treatment to babies <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/health-50144741">born before 23 weeks</a> because that was considered beyond the "threshold of viability" for a fetus to live outside the womb.</p><p>Being born alive that early is also incredibly rare — just <a href="https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/bulletins/birthcharacteristicsinenglandandwales/2020">0.15% of all live births in the UK are before 24 weeks</a>.</p><p>"A specialist told us that the survival rate for a single pregnancy born at 22 weeks was really low. With them being twins, the chances were virtually nonexistent," Longstaff, 33, told Insider.</p><h2>The twins were born 12 minutes apart</h2><p>On January 13, Gomez went into labor at Royal Preston Hospital in Lancashire. Oliver was born first, Joseph 12 minutes later.</p><p>Only one other baby, a girl named <a href="https://righttolife.org.uk/news/baby-girl-born-at-22-weeks-celebrates-first-birthday">Stella Haigh</a>, had been born so prematurely at the hospital, but she was 3 ounces heavier than Oliver and a single pregnancy.</p><p>"The boys were rushed to intensive care in plastic bags to keep them warm and moist," Gomez said. "I needed an operation, as my placenta would not detach and I was bleeding heavily. But I was terrified that I wouldn't get a chance to meet the boys alive because I was in the OR."</p><div type="image" title="Cat Gomez and Tom Longstaff with their sons Joseph and Oliver" height="1303" width="1742" msid="93352947" hostid="261" sizebytes="158996"></div><p>For the father, it was a shock to see them because the babies' skin was see-through.</p><p>"It was a miracle they were born alive, but there wasn't any false hope. We resolved to spend what time we could with them," Longstaff said.</p><p>While Oliver was the smaller twin, he had fewer complications. Joseph was 2 ounces heavier but had a grade-four brain bleed. Doctors said if he survived, he would have been severely disabled. His parents felt the most loving choice would be to withdraw his care.</p><p>"We were able to hold Joseph for the first and last time," Gomez said. "The hospital arranged a photographer for us, and they managed to move him into Oliver's incubator. We got a picture of them holding hands."</p><p>Joseph died in her arms soon after.</p><h2>There was no time for grief. They needed to take care of Oliver.</h2><p>The heartbroken parents had little time to grieve, focusing on changing "tea-bag-sized" diapers and feeding Oliver breast milk by syringe. When he was 1 week old, his mother said she had her "extra-special" first hug.</p><p>"When I'd held Joseph for the first time, he was dying," Gomez said. "It was nice to hold Oliver for a happy reason."</p><div type="image" title="Oliver was as small as his Lovey" height="902" width="1200" msid="93352948" hostid="261" sizebytes="70332"></div><p>The tiny baby spent 132 days in the hospital, learning to breathe unaided and undergoing 12 blood transfusions. He also needed laser eye surgery and an operation for a bilateral hernia when he was 15 weeks old.</p><p>On May 25, nine days after his due date, Oliver was strong enough to go home. According to the British Association of Perinatal Medicine, one in three babies born before 24 weeks is disabled. But Oliver has few lasting health or developmental problems and recently came off oxygen.</p><p>"He has started smiling a lot more now — we're waiting for that first laugh," Longstaff said. </p><p>His parents' joy is tempered by thoughts of their lost child, Joseph.</p><p>"We've put off grieving — we have to present for Oliver," Longstaff said.</p><div type="image" title="Oliver is smiling for his parents" height="1155" width="1536" msid="93352949" hostid="261" sizebytes="150192"></div><p>Because the boys were identical, the couple will get a glimpse at how Joseph would have looked as Oliver gets older. And while they are happy for Oliver's milestones, they are heartbroken over not having his twin around.</p><p>"I'll always wonder what Joseph's character would have been like," Gomez said. </p><p>The couple wants Oliver's story to give hope to other parents who have an extremely premature baby.</p><p>"We'll be forever grateful the recommendations changed to help babies below 23 weeks and doctors gave him a chance," Gomez said.</p>

The technology has revolutionized industries as diverse as toy makers, tool manufacturers, and even <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/this-fake-meat-is-printed-in-a-lab-using-vegetables-and-a-3d-printer-2018-11">food producers</a>. Now, its latest frontier could likely be healthcare.</p><p>In contrast to traditional 'subtractive manufacturing' techniques - where an object is made by removing parts from a piece of raw material (think carving a wooden object or forging metal by pouring it into a mold) - 3D printing consists of manufacturers incrementally adding material layer by layer.   </p><p>Here's how two companies are leveraging this process to substantially improve upon current healthcare methods.  </p><h1>Making prosthetics more accessible in the developing world</h1><p>Bradley Veatch, the president and CEO of Colorado-based <a href="https://www.toughwareprx.com/">Toughware Prosthetics</a>, has been creating affordable and accessible prosthetics for amputees for almost two decades. While technology enabled him to engineer high-functioning prosthetics, he ran into the same problem over and over again. "I had this device that was so expensive that there were probably 10 people in the United States that could afford the thing," Veatch said.</p><p>According to a <a href="https://www.who.int/disabilities/world_report/2011/report/en/">2011 report</a> by the World Health Organization and World Bank, more than one billion people - that's 15% of the world's population - experience some form of disability, with one-fifth experiencing significant disabilities. Veatch's experiences taught him that this population needs more durable and accessible options. He moved into creating prosthetics for people in developing countries who rely heavily on physical activity in their daily lives.</p><p>Since 2017, Veatch has partnered with Massachusetts firm <a href="https://markforged.com/">Markforged</a>, which makes metal and carbon fibre 3D printers. He bought his first 3D printer to overcome the issue of individually manufacturing complex parts, which would often take up to six weeks. </p><p>"I'm actually able to get a lot more done in a much more concentrated timeframe. I can produce an engineering design print and then begin running tests, sometimes even the same day. I can print what I need, when I need it, and continue with my iterative design process," he said.</p><p>3D printing keeps costs down for Toughware. One prototype bracket - part of the initial design for a piece which holds two objects together - was going to cost Veatch $65 to be machined out of aluminum, but cost only a few dollars when printed using his carbon fiber 3D printer.</p><p>"It was strong and just what I was looking for in the application - and it only took five hours to print," he explained.</p><h1>Working with nurses to improve neonatal care and manufacture rapid solutions</h1><p>In July of 2019, Minneapolis-headquartered <a href="https://www.protolabs.com">Protolabs</a> started partnering with neonatal intensive care unit nurses and biomedical engineers at <a href="https://www.medstarhealth.org/">MedStar Health</a> to develop a 3D-printed gravity feed syringe holder to use at each incubator station caring for a premature baby.</p><p>"Depending on the number of newborns, and how often they feed, nurses can spend hours each day holding a syringe above an incubator while milk or liquid formula drains into the baby via a stomach tube," said Protolabs' spokesperson Rachel Hunt.</p><p>After speaking with the experts who care for neonatal babies every day, the Protolabs team offered 3D-printing guidance. From there, the biomedical engineers were able to quickly vet and test their ideas within days, allowing them to quickly pivot or expand on solutions. </p><p>For this project, the end result was a compact device that can hold four different sizes of syringes. Each syringe holder was rapidly manufactured and returned to the hospital within the week. In terms of medical design, Hunt said that this is only the beginning.  </p><p>"Designers needing answers they can only get by having parts in hand can have them within a day. From a clinical standpoint, patient specific, customized devices benefit from the low volume production and complex geometries that 3D printing is able to manufacture," she added.</p><p>As for the future, Protolabs is looking to pioneer readily accessible lightweight parts for aerospace, complex geometries for patient-specific medical devices, and automotive parts printed as one assembly.</p><p>There have been concerns that 3D printing could be used by bad actors, such as a person <a href="https://www.wired.co.uk/article/3d-printed-guns-blueprints">printing their own gun</a> to get around licensing restrictions. But this generation of emerging tech companies is aiming to show that 3D printing is a force that can be used for good in solving some of society's greatest challenges - particularly when it comes to the care of our most vulnerable.</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> currently displays hundreds of results for products associated with <keyword id="9152811" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="qanon">QAnon</keyword>, the far-right conspiracy theory, which the FBI has deemed as posing potential domestic terrorism threats.</li><li>Business Insider found hundreds of results for t-shirts, books, stickers, masks, and other items when searching for "QAnon" in Amazon's marketplace.</li><li>However, not all of the results were directly tied to the far-right fringe conspiracy theory — some were pro-Trump propaganda or messaging associated with "Blue Lives Matter."</li><li>Amazon's third-party seller policy prohibits the sale of "products that promote, incite or glorify hatred, violence, racial, sexual or religious intolerance or promote organizations with such views." </li><li>While Amazon lists hundreds of QAnon-related items for sale, other tech companies including Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook have declared a hardened stance against QAnon-related content leading up to the 2020 presidential election. </li></ul><p>Amazon currently has hundreds of products listed for sale that promote the far-right conspiracy theory <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-qanon-explaining-the-far-right-conspiracy-theory-2020-7">QAnon.</a><br /><br />QAnon has been tied to violent acts, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fbi-document-conspiracy-theories-domestic-terrorism-threat-2019-8">the FBI has warned of the movement's potential to incite domestic terrorism</a>. A man in Nevada professed himself a follower of QAnon after blocking traffic with an armored vehicle, and in 2019 <a href="https://www.npr.org/2019/07/22/744244166/shooters-lawyer-he-wasn-t-trying-to-kill-a-mob-boss-he-was-under-qanon-delusion">a man cited the movement as the motivation for his plot to kill</a> alleged New York mob boss Francesco Cali.<br /><br />In a search for "QAnon" on Amazon, Business Insider found the site produced <a href="https://www.amazon.com/s?k=qanon&amp;ref=nb_sb_nossnoss">hundreds of results</a> for t-shirts, books, stickers, <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Bandanas-M-Shaped-Replaceable-Activated/dp/B088NRXV56/ref=sr_1_17?dchild=1&amp;keywords=qanon&amp;qid=1597164882&amp;sr=8-17&amp;sr=8-17">masks</a>, <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Premium-Shield-Patriotic-Multi-Functional-Bandana/dp/B0872382Z3/ref=pd_sbs_469_1/139-9987363-7191513?_encoding=UTF8&amp;pd_rd_i=B08723QNHW&amp;pd_rd_r=a0af6cdb-7d3f-4a0b-bb2c-50381a4d86cd&amp;pd_rd_w=VrRZY&amp;pd_rd_wg=2cA4X&amp;pf_rd_p=703f3758-d945-4136-8df6-a43d19d750d1&amp;pf_rd_r=2J2KVSKTDNS2KJF27YD3&amp;psc=1&amp;refRID=2J2KVSKTDNS2KJF27YD3&amp;refRID=2J2KVSKTDNS2KJF27YD3">bandanas</a>, tumblers, hats, and other items related to the movement. Many also include products <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Trump-Qanon-Patriot-WWG1WGA-T-Shirt/dp/B08F5T6Z92/ref=sr_1_105?dchild=1&amp;keywords=qanon&amp;qid=1597172141&amp;sr=8-105amp;sr=8-105">merging</a> both support for the QAnon movement as well as for the president. </p><p><a href="https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gp/help/help.html?itemID=200164670&amp;linkCode=w50&amp;tag=thedailybeast-autotag-20&amp;imprToken=JHGJkoGCtr-idJ367kkXEw&amp;slotNum=0&amp;language=en-US&amp;ref=mpbc_200277420_cont_200164670200277420_cont_200164670" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Amazon's third-party-seller policy</a> prohibits the sale of "products that promote, incite or glorify hatred, violence, racial, sexual or religious intolerance or promote organizations with such views." It also advertises the t-shirt as "a great Q Generation gift for a friend or family member with a soft spot for the dark web."</p><p><div type="image" title="amazon qanon" height="1206" width="1608" msid="77511077" hostid="261"></div></p><p>Various t-shirts sport references to the White Rabbit, the character in Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," which the QAnon movement has used to represent the need to follow the truth "down the rabbit hole" and uncover the plot that exists to attack Trump. <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Qanon-Follow-White-Rabbit-Pilled/dp/B07FXRYHH4/ref=sr_1_113?dchild=1&amp;keywords=qanon&amp;qid=1597165238&amp;sr=8-113&amp;customId=B0752XJYNL&amp;th=1&amp;psc=1XJYNL&amp;th=1&amp;psc=1">One of the t-shirts</a> displays multiple rabbits pouring out "The Red Pill," an allusion to the phrase used to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-tweets-take-the-red-pill-what-it-means-2020-5">describe one's political shift towards the right.</a> Another depicts <a href="https://www.amazon.com/QAnon-WWG1WGA-Men-Women-T-Shirt/dp/B08F6J9LY7/ref=sr_1_119?dchild=1&amp;keywords=qanon&amp;qid=1597193463&amp;sr=8-119&amp;customId=B078RWLY49&amp;th=1=B078RWLY49&amp;th=1">a white rabbit with Trump's standard hairstyle</a>.</p><p>However, not all of the search results for "QAnon" produce items directly related to the movement. Some are simply paraphernalia supporting President Trump, gun rights, the "Blue Lives Matter" movement, and expressions of traditional patriotism.</p><p>While Amazon rival Walmart lists a few products associated with the movement, it appears to take a much firmer hand in blocking and moderating merchandise. All that was available as of August 12 was a<a href="https://www.walmart.com/ip/3dRose-Where-We-Go-One-We-Go-All-Q-anon-Q-USA-Flag-WWG1WGA-Truth-Key-Chains-2-25-by-2-25-inch-set-of-2/858823446"> $9.99 key chain</a> sporting an American flag, a "Q" symbol, and the "WWG1WGA" slogan sold and shipped by seller 3dRose LLC. The same seller offers a <a href="https://www.walmart.com/ip/3dRose-Q-anon-Where-We-Go-One-We-Go-All-T-Shirt-USA-Flag-WWG1WGA-Straw-Water-Bottle-21-ounce/696869034">$14 water bottle</a> emblazoned with the US flag and the slogan, which is currently out of stock on Walmart's site.</p><p>Walmart did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.</p><p>Meanwhile, ecommerce platform Etsy also has a substantial collection of QAnon product offerings, like t-shirts, masks, bumper stickers, and 24K gold necklaces <a href="https://www.etsy.com/search?q=QAnon">"for a proud QANON patriot!"</a></p><p>In an email to Business Insider, Etsy said that product listings associated with certain movements are allowed as long as they don't violate the company's seller or prohibited items policies, which ban items that promote hate or that could incite violence. The company said it is continually reviewing items on the site and could remove items in the future if they're found to violate Etsy's policies.</p><h2>Tech companies take action against QAnon, which the FBI says poses domestic terrorism threats</h2><p>As Amazon lists hundreds of QAnon-related items for sale, other tech companies have taken a more aggressive approach against QAnon content leading up to the 2020 presidential election. Twitter said it was <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/twitter-cracking-down-on-conspiracy-theory-group-qanon-2020-7?r=US&amp;IR=TIR=T">zeroing in on "so-called QAnon activity"</a> in July and reportedly removed 7,000 accounts associated with the far-right movement. <a href="https://www.insider.com/tiktok-disables-qanon-hashtags-as-platforms-fight-conspiracy-theory-2020-7">TikTok disabled</a> two popular QAnon hashtags — "QAnon" and "WWG1WGA" — in late July as well.</p><p>Google has blocked merchandise that promotes QAnon from reaching customers, banning the term "QAnon" from being searchable in its shopping tab, according to a <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2020/08/10/google-blocks-shopping-searches-qanon-conspiracy-theory/">Telegraph</a> report. </p><p>And <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/qanon-groups-have-millions-members-facebook-documents-show-n1236317">NBC News</a> reported that Facebook was conducting an internal investigation into how extensive QAnon's reach was on its platform and found millions of followers to be active on the site. The site has been <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-qanon-crack-down-fringe-conspiracy-pages-groups-2020-5">taking action</a> in recent months to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-removes-qanon-group-conspiracy-theories-2020-8">remove some QAnon groups</a> from the platform. </p><p>The FBI warned in a secret document last year that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fbi-document-conspiracy-theories-domestic-terrorism-threat-2019-8">conspiracy theories, including QAnon, could pose domestic terrorism</a> threats. The agency has tied QAnon beliefs to fueling acts of violence, including a man in Nevada who was arrested after blocking traffic with an armored truck stocked with rifles, ammunition, and body armor and professed himself a follower of the movement.</p><p>QAnon was also cited as <a href="https://www.npr.org/2019/07/22/744244166/shooters-lawyer-he-wasn-t-trying-to-kill-a-mob-boss-he-was-under-qanon-delusion">a motivator for the killing</a> of alleged New York mob boss Francesco Cali. The attorney for Anthony Comello, who was charged for the murder, said his client was a QAnon follower whose support for the movement "evolved into a delusional obsession" when he shot the man to death in early 2019.</p><p><div type="image" title="anthony comello qanon" height="954" width="1271" msid="77511080" hostid="261"></div></p><p>Experts at West Point's Combatting Terrorism Center recently concluded that the rise of QAnon poses a threat to national security, <a href="https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/889kgp/terrorism-experts-say-qanon-conspiracy-theory-a-threat-to-national-security">Motherboard</a> reported, and found similarities between it and "other far-right extremist movements, such as the various militant, anti-government, white nationalist, and neo-Nazi extremist organizations across the United States."</p><p>Amazon lists billions of products for sale on its site, and has taken a hands-off approach to moderating listings, which has <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/prime-day-protests-around-amazon-selling-racist-message-products-2018-7">landed the company in hot water in the past</a>. Third-party sellers also reportedly use AI-generated listings to take advantage of the company's recommendations system, sometimes producing odd results that could go against company policies. <a href="https://www.theverge.com/tldr/2017/7/10/15946296/amazon-bot-smartphone-cases">One seller used a bot</a> to generate smartphone cases in 2017 featuring text like "heroin, spoon and syringe" and "adult diaper worn by an old man."</p><p>A July report from <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-53518008">BBC </a>revealed that Amazon was selling merchandise bearing White supremacy symbols, such as the one worn by the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/christchurch-shooter-terror-charges-2019-5">Christchurch shooter</a> who was accused of killing 51 people, as well as neo-Nazi literature and Ku Klux Klan-related materials. </p><p>The report also noted the presence of Boogaloo-related products on Amazon's marketplace. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/far-right-boogaloo-extremists-may-attack-washington-dc-intelligence-assessment-2020-6">Boogaloo is another far-right movement</a> that advocates for violent uprisings against both the government and those who identify with left-wing <keyword id="6358883" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="politics">politics</keyword>. Amazon said it took down the products after the report was published.</p><p>Business Insider did not find as many results blatantly tied to Boogaloo as to QAnon, but Hawaiian shirts are prominent in the search results as is messaging aligned with <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Zepp-Tees-Given-Rights-Patriotic/dp/B083XGD4W9/ref=sr_1_25?dchild=1&amp;keywords=boogaloo&amp;qid=1597166557&amp;sr=8-25&amp;sr=8-25">"God-Given" gun rights.</a> Other items, such as patches, are listed under less-obvious keywords, such as <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Tactical-Hawaiian-American-Morale-Patch/dp/B08CS44521/ref=sr_1_9_sspa">"Boog line."</a></p>

<p class="p1">Instagram users rushed to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/new-instagram-update-filters-emoji-hashtags-2015-4">start hashtagging their favorite emojis</a> after the company revealed its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/instagram-hashtag-emoji-update-2015-4">new update on Monday</a>.</p><p class="p1">Searching for each emoji hashtag revealed the various ways people use the popular cartoon symbols. Who knew, for example, that the red "100" emoji was so popular?</p><p class="p1">But soon, <a href="http://www.buzzfeed.com/katienotopoulos/free-the-eggplant-emoji-instagram#.gbV0wb7R9n">Buzzfeed's Katie Notopoulos</a> realized that the only emoji users could not tag was the purple eggplant, which has long been used to symbolize the male anatomy.</p><p class="p1">Similarly to how Instagram bans hashtags such as #penis, it now forbids users from searching for the eggplant hashtag. You can post it, but if you try to find other people's eggplant posts, nothing comes up:</p><p class="p2"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div><p></p></div></div><strong>However, the most violent emojis - such as the gun and knife - are still fair game on Instagram.</strong></span></p><p class="p1"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><strong>When users search the knife, which had over 1,000 tags at the time of this post, images and posts about users cutting or self-harming themselves pop up.</strong></p><p class="p1"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><strong>In addition to the knife, the gun was one of the more popular vice emoji hashtags with over 5,000 posts. The posts included people posing with guns in addition to pictures of people hunting and at shooting ranges (plus lots of selfies).</strong></p><p class="p1"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p class="p1"><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">This was a pretty standard snap:</strong></p><p class="p1"><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Not all of the violent emoji hashtags brought up negative or upsetting images. For instance, the bomb emoji had nearly 3,000 tags, but was mostly pictures of things the user liked (think: "The Bomb"), such as food or scantily clad women.</strong></p><p class="p1"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p class="p1"><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">The syringe emoji is not for the squeamish. Though nothing in this tag was too offensive, you'll see a lot of pictures of people giving blood, sick in hospitals, or getting tattoos.</strong></p><p class="p1"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p class="p1"><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">The pill emoji also was filled with images of sick people in the hospital or taking medication.</strong></p><p class="p1"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p class="p1"><strong>There were a few questionable images, however, that reference users abusing prescription medications.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></strong></p><p class="p1"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Business Insider contacted Instagram for comment about the banned eggplant. A spokesperson confirmed that Instagram has banned searching the eggplant emoji, saying that they "target terms and/or symbols that are typically used to violate [the] Community Guidelines."</span></p><p class="p1">They added, "O<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">ne of the signals we use to determine if a hashtag should be made unsearchable is if it's consistently associated with photos or videos that violate our policies."</span></p><p>For reference, this is Instagram's policy on nudity and genetalia on the app [emphasis ours]:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">We know that there are times when people might want to share nude images that are artistic or creative in nature, but for a variety of reasons, <strong>we don't allow nudity on Instagram.</strong> This includes photos, videos, and some <strong>digitally-created content that show sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks.</strong> It also includes some photos of female nipples, but photos of post-mastectomy scarring and women actively breastfeeding are allowed. Nudity in photos of paintings and sculptures is OK, too.</p><p>And this is Instagram's policy on images that promote self harm<span> [emphasis ours]</span>:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">The Instagram community cares for each other, and is often a place where people facing difficult issues such as eating disorders, cutting, or other kinds of self-injury come together to create awareness or find support.
