The Bombay High Court, which is currently supervising the battle between the Central Board of Film Certification and the makers of upcoming film '<keyword id="6356850" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Udta-Punjab">Udta Punjab</keyword>', has asked <keyword id="238857" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="CBFC">CBFC</keyword> the reasons why it sought for the deletion of words like 'Punjab', 'MLA', and 'election' from the movie, along with several other cuts from the movie depicting the drug issue in Punjab. 
 The court was hearing a petition that filmmaker <keyword id="7929" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anurag-Kashyap">Anurag Kashyap</keyword>'s <keyword id="1363315" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Phantom-Films">Phantom Films</keyword> filed, challenging the cuts that the censor board had ordered in the film. The division bench of Justice Satyaranjan Dharmadhikari and Justice Shalini Phansalkar Joshi told the CBFC that there is a fine line between creative freedom and the rules. 
 
"How can a signboard mentioning Punjab be against the sovereignty of the country?" judges asked the board, citing the first cut that the board had ordered in the film. "Are you saying this movie only depicts Punjab as drug capital? Has drug menace never been portrayed in films before this? 
 
The judges also went on to question CBFC about its order to delete words like 'MLA', 'election' and 'party' worker from the film title, reminding it of a movie titled Aaj Ka MLA Ram Avatar, which was passed without any objection. 
 
"Nobody will be allowed to abuse the right to creative freedom, but this is not the way to go about it. Delete this, delete that. What sort of lasting impression is being created about India that is being acknowledged globally? One should not attack the aggressive postures of the younger generation. This young generation is mature and its sensibilities may be different," the judges added. 
 
However, the judges said that they would not let anyone glamorize the use of drugs in the name of creative freedom. 
 
The court even added that the movie 'Go Goa Gone,' which showed Goa as a land of drugs, wine and women could release, why was the board hesitating in the use of the word 'Punjab' in 'Udta Punjab'. 
 
The CBFC counsels, in their defence, have told the court that the application was not submitted in the right format, which led to the delay in the objections raised in the film. The film is set to release on 17th June 2016. They even added that they demanded 89 cuts because there is abusive language throughout the film.

"Given the unprecedented nature of the situation we are in, an initiative undertaken by Mr Bachchan, 'WE ARE ONE' has been supported by Sony Pictures Networks India and Kalyan Jewellers, through which the monthly ration of 1,00,000 households across the country will be funded," a statement released by Sony Pictures Networks on Sunday read."Through a commercial tie-up with a leading chain of hypermarkets and grocery stores in India, digitally barcoded coupons have been distributed to a verified list of workers from the All India Film Employees Confederation. Furthermore, monetary help has also been extended to those in need," it added.However, there was no information till when these daily wage workers will receive monthly ration from the donators. Mumbai, May 1 () Personalities from the field of entertainment and sports have come together for a digital concert to be held on May 3 to raise funds for the frontline workers, who are working round the clock to contain the coronavirus pandemic.Facebook has collaborated with some of the biggest names in Indian entertainment to put together a home-to-home fundraiser concert, I For India.All the proceeds from the fundraiser concert will go to the India COVID Response Fund managed by GiveIndia, to support on-ground relief efforts.The vision for the concert is three-pronged: to entertain those locked down in their homes, to pay tribute to those who are working on the frontlines and to raise funds for those who have no work and no home and do not know where their next meal is coming from.The four-hour long concert will be live globally on Facebook on May 3 and will feature performances and personal messages from over 85 Indian and global stars including Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chorpa Jonas, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vidya Balan, Shabana Azmi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherji, Madhui Dixit Nene, Akshay Kumar, Diljit Dosanjh, Dulquer Salmaan, Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal, Anushka Sharma, Ayushmann Khurrana, Tiger Shroff and Sophie Turner.The music fraternity will see presence of AR Rahman, Bryan Adams, Mindy Kaling, Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Jay Sean, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Jonas Brothers, Amaan Ali, Ayaan Ali, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Sonu Nigam, Anoushka Shankar, Arijit Singh, Badshah, Rekha Bharadwaj and others.Filmmakers such Farhan Akhtar, Farah Khan, Karan Johar, Kiran Rao, Zoya Akhtar and personalities from the field of sports such as Rohit Sharma, Saina Mirza and Virat Kohli will also be part of the event.Anushka Sharma said, "While we may be social distancing and that's the requirement I don't think we've ever been more connected. People helping each other, spreading awareness just so that we can protect each other and that is the victory of human spirit."Veteran actor Shabana Azmi said it's time to come "together in kinship and harmony.""It's time we realised how interdependent we are on each other. Irrespective of caste, class, gender, religion or country. It's time for introspection. It's time to shed our prejudices," she added.Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar said, "May we remember the lessons learnt and never forget we aren't above nature, we're just a small part of it."While Rani Mukerji expressed her concern towards instances of child abuse, that has increased during lockdown."I urge you all to stay more vigilant. COVID-19: Actors, musicians and sports personalities to come together for fundraiser concert

Mumbai, Apr 15 () Bollywood celebrities such as director Onir, actor Sunny Leone and author Tahira Kashyap are utilising their time at home during the national lockdown to keep the creativity flowing: from making short films, creating web shows to narrating fictional stories, all on the Internet.With cinema halls shut and all production suspended due to the coronavirus, there has been a boom in content for online platforms.Actors are going live on Facebook and Instagram to interact with fans, and musicians in the country are performing online gigs to ease the tension. Some, like Sunny, have also started a digital chat show.Tahira was one of the firsts to start a video series titled "The Lockdown Tales", where she narrates mini fictional stories - aided by sound effects - on Instagram. So far, the writer has uploaded four stories, chronicling the lives of people through fictional characters who have been affected by the lockdown.The idea to take to the digital storytelling was the "most natural" for her, she said. "It wasn't only because of the lockdown. I had to bring forth my most creative self. I was overwhelmed with the situation. I was oscillating between being hopeful and devastated, knowing what all is happening. Each one of us is living these moments and I wanted to put words, memories and stories to these moments," Tahira told .Actor Shreya Dhanwanthary of "The Family Man" fame, decided to make her directorial debut with the micro-series "A Viral Wedding: Made In Lockdown". The made-from-home series follows the story of a social media influencer (Shreya), who refuses to cancel her wedding due to the lockdown."I thought of doing something on the current scenario. Nobody had ever thought that the entire world would be on pause mode. This is unprecedented. It is an attempt to reflect on the reality of the situation in a light-hearted way through this micro-series," Shreya said.The actor believes the shot-at-home format could possibly become a new "avenue" for the entertainment industry. "We are thinking about newer ways to entertain people," she said. Onir has started inviting budding filmmakers to utilise their time in the lockdown by making short film indoors, which he and frequent collaborator-actor Sanjay Suri will judge.Onir was surprised by the response - it grew in numbers every week - and said the whole idea was to engage people in something creative."For me it started with 'Lockdown Diaries' where everyday I was putting out videos of cooking and various things I'm doing. I thought why not extend this. I'm anyway doing my own videos, which are motivational, but a lot of people -- actors and filmmakers -- approach you on social media. "I thought this is a good time to do something from home. This is a good way to look for talent also at the same time you're giving something for people to do, to engage themselves," Onir said. The sentiment to "mobilise creative minds to express different aspects of these times" was what made Suri come on board."It's wonderful that people are able to create in such trying times. Perhaps the most touching stories in recent times will emerge from these feelings. Be it short stories, inspirational videos with workouts, cooking recipes or even live session counselling or chats that people have been doing. "Many may critique it, but I feel these may inspire, educate, sensitise or even purely entertain someone somewhere positively," the actor-producer said.Recently, ad-filmmaker Prasoon Pandey virtually directed the short film "Family", which featured stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Diljit Dosanjh among others.When Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the lockdown last month, Prasoon felt it was the right time to do something."We were all trapped, if you look at it, and there was no point in just sitting and waiting. I started writing and several ideas came to me. I just wanted to use this time to convey a larger point - to send across a social message using entertainment, through TV and the Internet," he added. Filmmakers, actors embrace digital storytelling during lockdown

The Supreme Court of India refused to stay release on Bollywood movie <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=udta+punjab&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Udta Punjab</a>, while hearing a petition filed by a Punjab-based NGO. 
 The NGO- Human Rights Awareness Association-had moved the Apex Court to halt the screening of <keyword id="6356850" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Udta-Punjab">Udta Punjab</keyword>, which addresses drug menace issue in the State.

The vacation bench of Justices Adarsh Kumar Goel and L. Nageswara Rao has asked the NGO to approach Punjab &amp; Haryana High Court. 
 
Udta Punjab, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh, was mired in controversy after the censor board has asked for 13 cuts and issued an A-certificate. 
 
Then, Udta Punjab’s makers including director Anurag Kashyap had approached Bombay High Court, which directed for movie’s release with just one cut and ‘A’ certificate. 
 
The NGO then moved the Supreme Court saying that Bombay High Court cannot rule on what cuts can be made in a film, adding the film depicted Punjab in a negative vein.

Meanwhile, there were reports that the unedited version of Udta Punjab were released online and the cyber cell is looking into the issue.

The film is slated for release on June 17.
