The Digi Yatra Policy envisages Digi Yatra as a completely voluntary scheme. Where the passengers sign up and consent to use Digi Yatra for the purpose of check-in and boarding, this agreement would have the legal character of a voluntary agreement for the temporary collection, temporary storage, and use of data. "This agreement must comply with existing laws and rules on data privacy," a discussion paper on "Responsible Artificial Intelligence For All" by the government think tank has suggested. Released on November 2, the discussion paper focusses on responsible usage of artificial intelligence-based tools and technologies like FRT. The paper goes on to add that the "rules are set out presently under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data and Information) Rules, 2011 ('SPDI Rules'). "Given that the Digi Yatra Foundation, which operationalised the <keyword id="12654561" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="digi-yatra-central-ecosystem" source="Orion">Digi Yatra Central Ecosystem</keyword>, is established under the Companies Act, 2013, it would amount to a 'body corporate' for the purposes of the SPDI Rules. Therefore, it would be necessary for Digi Yatra to comply with the SPDI rules." The Digi Yatra Policy further states that facial biometrics data is deleted from the local airport's database 24 hours after the departure of the passenger's flight. NITI Aayog, however, seeks that the rules related to deletion of other information collected from the passengers, as well as any facial biometrics that are stored in other registries, must be clearly set out in Digi Yatra's policy. The Digi Yatra Policy mentions that users may also be able to provide consent for value-added services at the airport, for which purpose, their data may be shared with other entities like cab operators and other commercial entities. On this, the government think tank has suggested that there must be specific care taken to ensure that such consent is meaningfully provided and is not bundled by default. "In addition to cyber security audits, it is imperative to establish a mechanism for performing algorithmic audits by independent and accredited auditors, prior to system deployment at periodic intervals," the discussion paper said. It is pertinent to mention that FRT, like other intelligent algorithms, is fundamentally a data-intensive technology. In order to ensure propriety and legality in the manner in which data processing happens to train and develop FRT systems, it is imperative to have a codified data protection regime in the country at the earliest, the discussion paper further stated. "The new data protection bill must retain the framework to ensure data protection, including obligations, enforcement mechanisms, a regulatory agency, penalties, and remedies from the <keyword id="2617070" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="personal-data-protection-bill" source="Orion">Personal Data Protection Bill</keyword>, 2019. "Furthermore, such a regime must not be limited to regulating data processing by private entities but must adequately codify protections for fundamental right to privacy against state agencies (including law enforcement)," it added. NITI Aayog further recommended that sensitive personal data should be protected under the new data protection law, including biometric data such as facial images and scans. "Consequently, it is recommended that rigorous standards for data processing, as well as the storage and retention of sensitive biometric data should be adequately addressed in any proposed data protection regime, to address privacy risks associated with FRT systems," it concluded. As facial recognition software usage grows, NITI Aayog seeks clarity on Digi Yatra privacy

Additionally, this will also facilitate self-bag drop and check-in, using facial recognition to identify pax and data recall. Digi Yatra will facilitate paperless travel and avoid identity check at multiple points. To accomplish this, NIA selected global technology firm <keyword id="4553387" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="icad" source="Orion">ICAD</keyword> Holding as its master system integrator (MSI) consultant and partnered with Indian IT major <keyword id="10862" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wipro" source="Orion">Wipro</keyword> which will act as a sub-consultant to the global tech company. An MSI enables all the technical systems, with all of their disparate parts and pieces to work cohesively and work as designed, throughout its lifespan. DigiYatra has already started installing their automated security system in Varanasi at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport where the airport director, AK Rai, has speculated that the airport will be ready go live with their services by October. In addition, the DigiYatra scheme will also extend to the Visakhapatnam airport and the Kolkata airport as well. That being said, government projects run the risk of not being on time, so there’s a high possibility that BIAL might actually be India’s first paperless boarding airport. The first phase of their roll-out will include Jet Airways, Spice Jet and Air Asia in the first quarter of 2019. If done on time, BIAL could be the first airport to have a end-to-end solution of paperless air travel.

Why waste hours on a train when you can pay lesser and get to your destination sooner? The process of boarding and deboarding a plane, however, remains tiresome. With many ditching trains for flights now, airports have become as crowded as railway stations. Naturally, the queues for boarding passes and for security checks have become longer. But there’s some good news! The government might soon implement a new feature -- a biometric-based unique ID -- that will make the boarding process for domestic flyers smooth. A unique identification number, similar to the Aadhaar, will soon let commuters dodge the boarding processes for domestic flights. A technical team from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) along with four private metro airports where the new scheme is set to be tested, finalized a completely paperless boarding process for domestic flyers. The team has also finalized and proposed the format for biometric-based identification called “Digi-Yatra” (DY). Under the new process, each commuter will be allocated a unique ID from the aviation ministry portal. This unique ID issued will also be linked to the person’s biometrics. Passengers wishing to use the new service will then have to provide the booking site with this ID. Getting the new ID will be optional for passengers. A Digi-Yatra link will be made available on the Air Sewa-II portal soon. Passengers can register there. The verification of the individuals will be done using government-issued ID proof like Aadhaar, driving licence etc.. After registration, whenever the registered person visits the airport the next time, he/she needs to carry the given ID proof and a photograph with them. Iris scans and the details will be captured at the airport. Once that’s done, you can say bye to the long queues for boarding passes. After biometric authentication of the traveller, the E-gate will open. The passenger will be able to avail all the services like check-in, security check and boarding using QR codes and biometrics. Airport websites will also be updated to accommodate the new feature after the proposal is approved by the ministry. World Brain Tumour Day is observed on June 8 every year to increase awareness and educate the public about brain tumours. In 2020, brain tumour was ranked as the 10th most common kind of tumour among Indians. The International Association of Cancer Registries (IARC) reported that there are over 28,000 cases of brain tumours reported in India each year and more than 24,000 people reportedly die due to brain tumours annually. "The occurrence of brain tumours in India is steadily rising. More and more cases of brain tumours are reported each year in our country among people of varied age groups. Every year 40,000 to 50,000 people are diagnosed with brain tumours, out of which 20 per cent are children," Aditya Gupta, Director, <keyword id="17646966" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="neurosurgery-and-cyberknife-centre" source="Orion">Neurosurgery and Cyberknife Centre</keyword>, Artemis Hospital, told IANS. "India is witnessing an increasing trend of central nervous system tumours. The prevalence ranges from 5 to 10 per 1,00,000 population. Very few people know that out of these, only two per cent of tumours turn cancerous," added Ravindra Srivastava, Director <keyword id="6498125" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="neurosurgery" source="Orion">Neurosurgery</keyword>, Primus Hospital. The doctors said it's critical to recognise the early warning signals since symptoms like unexplained nausea, persistent headaches, seizures, visual problems and cognitive changes shouldn't be disregarded. According to Shashi Shekhar Singh, Neurosurgery, Ujala Cygnus Group of Hospitals, the risk factors for brain tumours vary depending on the type of tumour. "While the exact causes of brain tumours are often unknown, the factors associated with an increased risk of developing a brain tumour include age: in adults, gliomas are more common, while medulloblastomas are more prevalent in children; genetic conditions and family history; exposure to ionising radiation, such as radiation therapy for cancers or exposure to nuclear accidents; and gender: meningiomas are more common in females, while gliomas are slightly more common in males," Singh told IANS. Further, research is also ongoing to understand the possible role of certain environmental factors in the development of brain tumours. Some studies have suggested potential associations between exposure to certain chemicals or electromagnetic fields and an increased risk of brain tumours. However, more research is needed to establish definitive links. The health experts called for a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet, frequent exercise and enough sleep to promote general brain health and reduce the risk of brain tumours. Essential strategies in lowering the risk also include keeping the brain safe from damage and injury and avoiding exposure to toxic substances. However, "it's important to note that the majority of brain tumours occur in individuals without any identifiable risk factors. Most cases are sporadic, meaning they occur by chance without a known cause," Singh said. "If you have concerns about your risk of developing a brain tumour, it's best to consult with a healthcare professional who can assess your individual situation and provide appropriate guidance," he added. In the communication by Air India Chief Customer Experience and Ground Handling Officer <keyword id="971191" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rajesh-dogra" source="Orion">Rajesh Dogra</keyword>, the airline told the passengers, who reached their destination after nearly 56 hours of departing from <keyword id="66" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="delhi" source="Orion">Delhi</keyword>: "We will fully refund the fare for your journey and, in addition, provide you a voucher for future travel on Air India". Air India flight AI 173 operating Delhi-SFO on June 6, carrying 216 passengers and 16 crew on board, was diverted to the <keyword id="2438648" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="magadan" source="Orion">Magadan</keyword> port city in far east Russia following a mid-air glitch in one of the <keyword id="6357957" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="boeing" source="Orion">Boeing</keyword> 777-200LR aircraft engines. On Wednesday, the airline dispatched a ferry flight to Magadan from Mumbai to fly the stranded passengers and crew from there to <keyword id="12161" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="san-francisco" source="Orion">San Francisco</keyword>. The replacement aircraft, which landed at Magadan at 06.14 am (local time) had got airborne at 1027 hours (local time) on June 8, for San Francisco, where it touched down at 12.07 am on June 8. Besides expressing "regret" for the disruption and inconvenience, the airline also "sincerely apologised" to the customers for the "extended delay" in bringing them to their destination, as per the communication. "The aircraft encountered a technical issue whereby the pilots received an indication of low oil pressure in one engine. Out of caution, they elected to land the aircraft at a nearby airport rather than continue the journey," Air India said. Maintaining that the safety was the highest priority throughout, it said that "while the facilities in Magadan, a small city, may not have met the standard we would normally aim to provide, we are grateful for your tolerance and understanding that our local agents and crew did their best under the circumstances." It may be mentioned here that after initially stating that the passengers and crew were accommodated "in hotels locally," Air India later said that the "infrastructure constraints" forced it to lodge them in make-shift accommodations. Air India in the communication also said that though it dispatched a relief flight at the earliest possible opportunity given the need to obtain insurance and flight plan approvals, clearly, the duration of delay was "long", and the "experience was not what we aspire to offer". "As such, we will fully refund the fare for your journey and, in addition, provide you a voucher for future travel on Air India," the Tata group airline said.
