New Delhi, Mar 2 () Housing societies, hotels and hospitals in the national capital region will soon be able to get diesel delivered at their doorsteps, with the launch of mobile application 'Humsafar' on Monday. "The oil and gas sector remains strategically important for the country and is ripe for disruption. Innovative tech ideas like 'Humsafar' will bring new technology and know-how to the market as well as generate employment that will positively impact the economy as well as the bulk consumers of diesel," Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar said at the app launch event. The app will be used for the fuel delivery services to housing societies, hotels, hospitals, malls, construction sites, industries, banquets and other bulk buyers of diesel in various NCR cities, including Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Noida, Faridabad, Hapur, Kundli, Manesar, and Bahadurgarh. Sanya Goel, director and founder of Humsafar, said the main idea of introducing this service is to help entities such as housing societies, industries and malls avoid the hassle of transporting large amounts of fuel from the fuel station to the desired destination. "This would also cut down the unsafe practices of transporting the fuel and ensure a highly secured mode of transport by Humsafar delivery dispensers." The major benefits of diesel delivery service are good quality and quantity of fuel delivered, live tracking of the delivery vehicle, automated billing, delivery within 8 hours and no spillage and wastage of fuel. Vin Diesel promises 3 more 'Fast and Furious' movies

A lot of new diesel-powered cars have popped up on the American market over the past year, with Audi and its parent company Volkswagen leading the push.
There are <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/10-reasons-why-you-should-buy-a-diesel-car-2013-8" target="_blank">plenty of upsides to diesels</a>: they offer more torque and better fuel economy than gas-powered cars, and new technology has done away with the loud, dirty, smelly quality that was their hallmark a few decades ago.
Diesels are popular in Europe, and so far sales in America have been good, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/vw-volkswagen-diesel-car-sales-us-america-success-2013-12" target="_blank">at least for VW</a>. So I was excited to try out the American offering: General Motors' 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Turbo Diesel.
<h3>A Solid Car</h3>
I spent a week driving through Manhattan and Brooklyn, took a New Year's Eve jaunt out to Long Island and packed the car for a ski trip that never happened. And I really like this car.
In terms of style, it's nothing special. The Cruze looks just like most other cars in the highly competitive compact car segment, which includes the VW Jetta, Honda Civic, and Toyota Corolla. But with a "red hot" exterior and "jet black" interior, there's nothing wrong with the Cruze's looks.
It's well-equipped: Keyless entry, heated leather seats, XM radio, cruise control, power adjustable mirrors, aluminum painted wheels, and a six-speaker audio system all come standard. MSRP is $24,885. The model I tested also had a 7-inch color touchscreen with navigation, blind zone alerts, and a better sound system, which pushed the price up to $28,105. I'd like to see a rear view camera come standard, but have no other cause to gripe.
The back row is best reserved for children. I'm 5'11", and with the driver's seat where I like it, I could barely fit in the seat behind it.
Acceleration from the 2.0-liter engine isn't great right off the line, but the Cruze smoothly picks up speed between 10 and 30 mph, and the steering is perfectly adequate. The diesel engine is noisy at low speeds (especially if you're outside the car), but quiets down on the highway.
The fuel economy is impressive. Even with a lot of city driving, I averaged between 30 and 46 mpg. It's EPA-rated for 33 mpg city and 46 mpg highway, so those numbers line up.
Overall, the 2014 Cruze Diesel is a really solid car - nothing amazing, but it's not designed to break the mold.

<h3>Diesel Won't Save You Money</h3>
I haven't tested the other diesel in the compact segment, the 2014 VW Jetta TDI, so I don't know how they line up (pricing and gas mileage are pretty close).
But my guess is that more people will be deciding between the regular Cruze and the Cruze Diesel than between the Jetta TDI and the Cruze Diesel.
So it's worth looking at how the Cruzes compare. The diesel cost $7,615 more than the Cruze LS, the cheapest gas-powered version of the car. That's a 44% jump, huge in a segment full of price-conscious buyers.
But the Diesel delivers better fuel economy than its gas-powered brother. That means you save money, right?
Nope. The improved mpg number will never pay off, because diesel fuel is a lot more expensive than regular gasoline (premium is a different story).
We crunched the numbers: To make the Cruze Diesel a better bargain its gasoline-powered brother, you'd have to drive more than 2.6 million miles.
Diesel costs $.50 more per gallon than gas, diesel drivers save only .287 cents per mile. So it takes a lot of driving to cover the $7,000 price difference.
That number is based on the national average fuel prices (<a href="http://fuelgaugereport.aaa.com/?redirectto=http://fuelgaugereport.opisnet.com/index.asp" target="_blank">provided by AAA on January 8</a>) the MSRP for each vehicle, and the EPA-rated highway gas mileage for each. We chose the highway number to be generous to the diesel - that's where it does best.

<h3>A Few Caveats</h3>
First of all, gas prices can change. The gap between gasoline and diesel is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/why-diesel-costs-more-than-gasoline-2013-10" target="_blank">the result of government policies</a>, which aren't set in stone.
Then there's the added power that comes from the diesel engine, and the <a href="https://www.alg.com/the-diesels-are-coming/" target="_blank">improved resale value</a>.
And the Cruze Diesel can drive over 700 highway miles on a full tank. If you never have to use the bathroom and/or sometimes end up being chased by the police, we think we've found just the car for you.

Since Vladimir Putin launched his war on Ukraine, the US, Europe, and other <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/currencies/russia-economy-charts-ukraine-war-oil-trade-europe-sanctions-energy-2023-4">Western nations have imposed a range of sanctions</a> on Russia. In February, the European Union banned imports of refined Russian fuels, including diesel, after banning seaborne crude oil imports in December. Still, Russia's oil and diesel export volumes remain elevated amid steep discounts. In fact, <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/china-india-russian-oil-crude-moscow-war-ukraine-volumes-kpler-2023-4">crude oil shipments are back above pre-war levels</a> thanks to China and India, and Russian diesel exports hit a record 1.27 million barrels a day in March, Kpler data shows.But whereas crude exports have largely consolidated into a small number of large buyers, the opposite has happened for Russian diesel exports, Kpler lead oil analyst Matt Smith told Insider."Trade flows [for diesel] have sprung up into many North African countries, while other key exporters such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia have increasingly imported Russian diesel in recent months given advantageous pricing," he said.<h3>'It's a game of musical chairs'</h3>Smith noted that some nations, like India and China, have been <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/russian-oil-laundered-china-india-moscow-sanctions-europe-west-ukraine-2023-4">ramping up imports of Russian supplies only to resell them</a>. Overall, Russian diesel is displacing traditional suppliers as trade flows change to make up for the loss of exports to the European market, he added."It's a game of musical chairs, and one we've seen play out already with other Russian products such as fuel oil," the analyst said.Brazil, for example, imported effectively zero Russian diesel all the way up to the end of 2022, with most of its supplies coming from the US and other sellers, according to Kpler data shared with Insider.The US sent roughly 150,000 barrels a day of diesel to Brazil in December 2022, but that has dropped by about 50% in April.Brazil's diesel imports from Russia, meanwhile, surged to almost 100,000 barrels a day this month — even though the US is a much closer trade partner than Russia — suggesting Brazil is able to get cheaper supplies despite the longer distance.Smith said Kpler isn't privy to the pricing involved, but the data illustrate that the economics work for both Russia and Brazil. "If it was just the odd cargo it could be suggested that Brazil is the destination of last resort when Russia is unable to sell its diesel to anyone else, but the volumes delivered in the last three months suggest something more regular and more of a trend," the analyst said. "It really does appear that Russian diesel is muscling in on US market share in Brazil."

Russian diesel exports hit record highs as the sanctioned fuel cuts into the US market share

Mumbai, Jan 17 () State-run oil marketing firm Indian Oil on Friday announced entering into a pact with Cummins Technologies for bulk dispensing of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) in their advanced engines with SCR (selective catalytic reduction) systems. 
The Indian Oil's DEF comes with the brand name ClearBlue. 
The pact was signed by Subimal Mondal, Executive Director (lubes) at Indian Oil and Anjali Pandey, Vice President (engine business unit and component business), Cummins India, in the city on Friday, a release said. 
"With this collaboration, IOC ClearBlue is recommended for use in all diesel vehicles that have Cummins engines or any other engines with Cummins SCR technology," Mondal said. 
Bulk dispensing of DEF is in line with global trends and offers better cost viability to truck and bus owners, as compared to packed products, the release said. 
The technical knowledge of Cummins combined with the bulk dispensing expertise of Indian Oil will help offer a world-class product to the customers across the country, it added. 
"With this initiative, Indian Oil's innovation in a diesel exhaust fluid, delivers superior results that ensure emissions controls. In the new emission era of BS-VI, all diesel vehicles would require IOC ClearBlue and the right quality would extensively help in controlling the NOx emitted," said Pandey. IAS MKJ

New Delhi, Jul 9 () Honda Cars India Ltd on Thursday said it has launched BS-VI compliant diesel version of its premium sedan Civic with price starting at Rs 20.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) The diesel Civic comes in two trims, priced at Rs 20.75 lakh and Rs 22.35 lakh, respectively, Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) said in a statement. The company has been selling BS-VI petrol version of the model since March 2019, it added. "With the introduction of BS-VI diesel version of our iconic sedan Honda Civic, our entire sedan line-up will offer the choice of both petrol and diesel to cater to our esteemed customers," HCIL Senior Vice President and Director Marketing and Sales Rajesh Goel said. The diesel Civic is available in manual transmission and will appeal to customers looking for sheer driving pleasure, he added. The diesel Civic is powered by 1.6-litre turbo engine mated to six speed manual transmission. The vehicle churns out 120 PS of power and delivers fuel economy of 23.9 km per litre, HCIL said. The petrol Civic comes with a 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The model comes with various features like 17.7 cm touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electric sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, eight way power driver seat, electric parking brake, multi-angle rear view camera, among others. New Delhi, Jul 2 () Honda Cars India on Thursday said it has launched an updated version of its compact SUV WR-V priced between Rs 8.5 lakh and Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The BS-VI compliant petrol versions of the model are priced at Rs 8.5 lakh and Rs 9.7 lakh, while the BS-VI diesel trims are tagged at Rs 9.8 lakh and Rs 11 lakh. The updated WR-V comes with various changes including new LED projector headlamps with integrated DRLs (daytime running lights), new 16-inch alloy wheels and shark fin antenna among others. "We constantly work towards creating products that appeal to our customers and are extremely delighted to introduce the new WR-V with bolder new looks and feature enrichments," Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) President and CEO Gaku Nakanishi said in a statement. The company is confident that the renewed WR-V line-up will be appreciated by customers, he added. "We have offered the New WR-V in both petrol and diesel in BS-VI regime to offer a wider choice to our customers depending on their requirement," Nakanishi noted. The petrol variants of the WR-V come with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that delivers a maximum power of 90PS. It is mated with Honda's advanced 5-speed manual transmission delivering impressive fuel efficiency of 16.5 km per litre as per test data, the company said. The BS-VI diesel trims are powered by a 1.5-litre engine that generate a power of 100 PS. It comes mated with six-speed manual transmission delivering fuel efficiency of 23.7 km per litre, it added. And at one point last month, it reached the equivalent of 25 days' worth of supply, as inventory stood at 106 million barrels and demand was at 4.2 million barrels per day, according to the Energy Information Administration.The shortage stems from the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic when gas demand crashed and refiners pulled back operations, Matt Smith, lead oil analyst at Kpler, told Insider.Trucks that run on diesel continued to deliver goods around the country, so consumption of the fuel remained elevated despite a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/america-diesel-shortage-crisis-energy-analyst-explains-europe-russia-fuel-2022-10">slowdown in refinery production,</a> which has resulted in a gradual decline in inventories for more than two years."The double whammy is that, as demand has picked up post-pandemic, the US is exporting more, well over a million barrels a day," Smith said. "And the triple whammy is the sanctions coming onto Russia's diesel exports early next year, so the global backdrop is tight supply."<h2>Waiving the Jones Act</h2>To Smith, the diesel shortage could ease if government officials waived the Jones Act, or the Merchant Marine Act of 1920. The law maintains that cargo transported between two US ports must be brought on vessels primarily built and crewed by Americans. But the number of tankers that meet these specifications is limited, which makes the cost of using them roughly double that of a foreign ship. The additional expenses make Jones Act tankers less attractive for traders.That means New England, which faces an acute <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/oil-prices-diesel-crisis-shortage-eia-biden-energy-europe-russia-2022-10">diesel shortage</a>, must either import supplies from overseas or from the US Gulf Coast. But the Jones Act makes it too costly to move diesel from the Gulf Coast to the East Coast, Smith said, exacerbating regional challenges and pushing buyers to turn to cheaper options from abroad. "In a rather bizarre turn of events, the US Gulf Coast ships diesel to all manner of countries, but not to the US East Coast," he said. "As for the US East Coast, it is left to import from as far afield as India and Qatar."Smith noted that even though a broad suspension of the Jones Act would improve the diesel crisis, it has yet to be repealed because it's a "political hot potato."The Department of Homeland Security told CNBC recently that Jones Act waivers are granted on a case by case basis, and that the mandate is critical to maintaining the strength of US shipbuilding and maritime industries.The DHS last approved a waiver for <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2022/09/28/statement-secretary-mayorkas-approval-jones-act-waiver-puerto-rico">Puerto Rico</a> in September for an emergency response to Hurricane Fiona.

(Don't worry, I won't tell anyone.)Or maybe, you loaded up ahead of time so you could meet the rush and have leftovers.Econ 101, really — when demand overruns supply, there's trouble (i.e. no spare candy). And when stockpiles can handle a seasonal surge (i.e. trick-or-treaters), there's more wiggle room and less urgency. This is what we're covering today, albeit with slightly higher stakes. America's in the midst of one of its worst diesel shortages ever thanks to lopsided supply and demand. Hold on to your M&amp;Ms because today we're diving into the crisis. The diesel shortage has been building since the start of the pandemic, and fuel inventories have dropped well below <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/oil-prices-diesel-crisis-shortage-eia-biden-energy-europe-russia-2022-10">emergency levels</a>. The Energy Information Administration has said the US has only <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/oil-prices-diesel-crisis-shortage-eia-biden-energy-europe-russia-2022-10">25 days left</a> of diesel reserves — and that was two weeks ago. Stockpiles are hovering below marks not seen since 2008.So how did we get here? That's what I asked Matt Smith, lead oil analyst at Kpler. He told me it comes down to basic supply and demand. <ul><li>The pandemic abruptly halted gas demand, since people were forced to stay home.</li><li>With demand crashing, refiners stopped refining. </li><li>But trucks continued to deliver goods around the country, so <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/oil-prices-diesel-crisis-shortage-eia-biden-energy-europe-russia-2022-10">diesel demand</a> stayed elevated. </li></ul>In effect, <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/oil-prices-diesel-crisis-shortage-eia-biden-energy-europe-russia-2022-10">diesel consumption continued</a> but refiners largely slowed down production. The crisis has since gotten worse because of two additional factors at play. "The double whammy is that, as demand has picked up post-pandemic, the US is exporting more, well over a million barrels a day," Smith explained. "And the triple whammy is the sanctions coming onto Russia's diesel exports early next year, so the global backdrop is <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/oil-prices-diesel-crisis-shortage-eia-biden-energy-europe-russia-2022-10">tight supply</a>."With European nations weaning off Russian energy, competition has increased in the diesel market due to the influx of buyers. Notably, Smith said, it's unlikely inventories actually bottom out at zero. Markets are panicking, so diesel prices will climb higher and higher, which will spark behavioral changes in consumers and producers. "Higher prices make the profitability of refining diesel go much higher," he said. In other words, refiners have more incentive to <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/oil-prices-diesel-crisis-shortage-eia-biden-energy-europe-russia-2022-10">ramp up production</a>. At the same time, <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/oil-prices-diesel-crisis-shortage-eia-biden-energy-europe-russia-2022-10">expensive diesel</a> will mean fewer customers can afford to keep buying fuel. "So prices rise, which crimps demand, and that also crimps export demand and encourages import demand," Smith said. "The market is having to adjust very quickly to avoid inventories running dry. America is facing a dramatic diesel shortage that could get even worse

Pune, Mar 31 () The ongoing lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has also resulted in the shutdown of fuel stations, is turning out to be a boon for Ratan Tata-backed Repos Energy as demand has zoomed sizeably. The Pune-based startup which specialises in supplying diesel at the doorstep for commercial users has seen daily demand go up to 15,000 litres from the earlier average of 10,000 litres, a senior official said. Its co-founder Chetan Walunj said the hospitals segment is leading the demand, while waste-management depots, industries, infrastructure projects and housing societies are also helping. Repos Energy was started three years ago and funded by Ratan Tata. It is an app-based company that picks up diesel from certified petrol pumps and delivers it at the customer's doorstep in a mobile petrol pump. "In the current situation hospitals are in the need of constant back-ups for crucial functions like the ventilators and intensive care units (ICU); and to ensure the smooth operations, we have deployed two mobile petrol pumps which are making trips to major and small hospitals and serving as a lifeline in times of lockdown," Walunj said. He said that besides hospitals, waste management depots of civic bodies, entities under essential services, some vertical of Pune Municipal Corporation, National Information Centre (NIC), and residential societies are also being catered in the current situation. "In the normal course, we never used to cater to the housing societies as their requirement was less, but considering the current situation where petrol pumps are instructed not to entertain the common public and frequent power outage it is becoming difficult for them to procure diesel to function their diesel generator sets. We are taking orders from residential societies for even 50 litres," he said. There is enough stock to be provided for the next 20 days of the lockdown period for now, he said. He also said that besides Pune, the company is providing services in 15 to 20 cities which include Kolkata, Siliguri in West Bengal, Bhilwara, Jhalawar, Kota in Rajasthan, Nagpur and Jalna in Maharashtra and Ankleshwar in Gujarat.
