Polling for two assembly seats in <keyword id="6358126" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Himachal-Pradesh">Himachal Pradesh</keyword> has begun at 8 am on Monday, a state election official said. The voting started at a slow pace which is likely to pick up during the day. The polling will continue till 6 pm, the official said. As many as 82,137 and 74,487 voters are eligible to exercise their right to franchise in Dharamshala and Pachhad respectively, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Rupali Thakur said. A total of 202 polling stations have been set up for Pachhad and Dharamshala seats. While 113 polling stations are in Pachhad, 89 are in Dharamshala, she added. An auxiliary polling station has been set up at the Dari old-age home to facilitate 24 elderly inmates to cast their votes in Dharamshala, Thakur said. Thirteen polling stations in Pachhad and 10 in Dharamshala have been identified as vulnerable, Thakur said, adding that four polling stations in Dharamshala are critical. While seven candidates are in fray from Dharamshala, five are trying their luck from Pachhad. However there is no railway station you can connect to directly. You need to get down at Pathankot in Punjab and drive up. There are good buses that run on this route; however we preferred train simply because a train offers much better comfort than the former. Many people wisely comment that travelling to the hills during monsoon isn’t a good idea. Yes, it’s true that there are chances of landslides in the upper <keyword id="52569" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Himalayas">Himalayas</keyword> and may stall traffic movements for good 2-3 days. But then the with rainwater masquerading as waterfall and gushing out here and there at incredible force and noise make your <keyword id="6439698" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mountain">mountain</keyword> trip in monsoon a memorable one. This monsoon we were looking for a place that would satiate our hunger for ‘<keyword id="1151790" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="pahadi">Pahadi</keyword>’ culture dose. While choosing the destination, our preference remained a place that is isolated yet loaded with amenities. And that’s when we discovered Rakkh Resort, a eco-friendly destination in Gopalpur, Kangra – some 15 miles away from the hustle and bustle of Dharamshala. To reach Rakkh, you need to take a detour from the Chamunda Temple road and drive across the rough terrain. With sudden rains, the road might be slippery as well so one needs to be really careful while hauling up. But once you reach the resort, the furry welcome by in-house pets Talli and Tina, a <keyword id="431588" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Golden-Retriever">Golden Retriever</keyword> and a mixed breed will make you fall in love at first sight.

Rakkh Resort Mountain Cottage There are two types of cottages at Rakkh: Mountain and Hills. While the first one has a beautiful view from the open veranda, the second one gets bonfire pit, which comes handy in the evening. The cottages are tastefully designed using local artworks. Wood is the primary material used in the decor of the room. Built in midst of Himalayan forest land, it’s quite obvious that wood will get the priority here. Talking about the cottages, what deserve special mention here are the teal colour combination of the wall, wooden headrest that looks raw yet pretty, the naked stone design of the veranda floor. And of course there is a traditional brass pot with warm water and sea salt for you to sleep well. We have mentioned earlier, everything has been sourced locally. Right from the manpower to daily necessities are from the villages located within 3-4 km radius of the resort. The restaurant <keyword id="2557829" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="dhaam">Dhaam</keyword>, has variety of juices in mason bottles sourced from a local juice factory in the village. Among the wide availability of menu, we tried the local Himachali cuisine. Though a small mountainous state in the lap of Himalaya , <keyword id="6358126" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Himachal-Pradesh">Himachal Pradesh</keyword> has its own way with food. Though with a hint of neighbouring Punjab, Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh, Himachali Madra (vegetable curry) and Patrod (Arbi leaf pakoda) are some of the delicacies in the area. And at this Dharamshala hotel there is a strong emphasis on local <keyword id="42580" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="himachal">Himachal</keyword> food. <div class="image-container float_right" style="width:400px"><div class="image"></div><keyword id="68053" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="AFP">AFP</keyword></div>A Tibetan monk doused himself in petrol in a Kathmandu restaurant on Wednesday and set himself on <keyword id="28762" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="fire">fire</keyword>, marking the 100th self-immolation bid in a wave of protests against Chinese rule since 2009.
Police in the Nepalese capital told AFP that the exile had burned himself in an eatery near Kathmandu's Boudhanath Stupa, one of the world's holiest Buddhist shrines, terrifying tourists who were having breakfast.
"At around 8:20 am (0235 GMT), a man in his early 20s arrived at a restaurant on the premises of the Boudhanath Stupa," police spokesman Keshav Adhikari said.
"He went straight to the toilet and poured petrol over his body and set himself alight."
The monk managed to run out into the street to the foot of the stupa where police helped douse the flames before sending him to hospital in a critical condition.
The Tibetan government in exile, based in the Indian town of Dharamshala in the foothills of the Himalayas, had previously put the number of burnings since 2009 at 99, with 83 of them leading to the death of the protester.
The gruesome burnings, most of which have occurred in Tibetan-inhabited areas of <keyword id="1334" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="China">China</keyword>, are seen as a sign of desperation in the community over perceived religious persecution in Chinese-ruled <keyword id="6364076" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tibet">Tibet</keyword>.
Speaking to AFP ahead of the milestone of 100 cases, Tibetan exile prime minister Lobsang Sangay blamed Chinese authorities and called for the international community to take note.
"Because there is no freedom of speech or outlet for any form of protest, unfortunately Tibetans have chosen self-immolations," he said in an interview in Dharamshala.
"To the international community I say 'stand up for Tibetans'. The Chinese government has completely militarised the Tibetan area," he added.
Beijing accuses the Dalai Lama, the Nobel Peace Prize winner and exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, of encouraging the immolations and says huge investment has brought modernisation and a better standard of living to Tibet.
The Dalai Lama fled Tibet in 1959 after a failed uprising and has since based himself in Dharamshala where Tibetans have previously marked new burnings with candle-lit vigils and prayers for the victim.
The Dalai Lama's office in New Delhi confirmed the 100th immolation attempt involved a monk. Representative Tempa Tsering called it "very unfortunate" and repeated appeals from the spiritual leader for Tibetans to end the protests.
"We feel very said that this has happened. The Tibetan leadership has been urging people to refrain from such drastic steps for long," Tsering said.
Suicide contradicts Buddhist teachings that all life is sacred, and Tibetan leaders have struggled to balance anger over Chinese rule with calls for protesters not to use such desperate measures.
The first self-immolation occurred in 2009 in the Kirti monastery in China's Sichuan province, with a pause until 2011 when they spread across the Tibetan plateau.
Nepal, home to around 20,000 Tibetans, is under intense pressure from Beijing over the exiles, and has repeatedly said it will not tolerate what it calls "anti-China activities".
"It's a sacrifice for the Tibetan people's struggle for freedom," a Tibetan community activist in Nepal said of Wednesday's protest, asking not to be named because of fears over possible reprisals.
"People are no longer afraid to go to this extent because (oppression) has crossed the limit."
The man who set himself on fire on Wednesday was expected to struggle to survive.
"His entire body was caught in the flames. At the hospital he tried to speak but couldn't," police spokesman Adhikari told AFP.
