<ul><li><keyword id="107980" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ASANSOL">Asansol</keyword> and Durgapur will go to vote in the phase 4 of the general elections. </li><li>From Asansol, there’s star studded fight between <keyword id="6721" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="babul-Supriyo">Babul Supriyo</keyword> (BJP) and <keyword id="24743" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Moon-Moon-sen">Moon Moon Sen</keyword> (TMC). </li><li>In Durgapur, BJP is trying hard to win a seat with party stalwart SS Ahluwalia. </li></ul>As India begins its fourth phase of polling, two of not just <keyword id="6357783" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="West-bengal">West Bengal</keyword> but India’s earliest industrial destinations head to vote. Asansol and Durgapur, the cities which still hold memoirs from the old school British era, used to be the economy’s powerhouses on their own. The cities are home to two steel plants of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) – Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) and IISCO Steel Plant (ISP), and a subsidiary – Alloy Steel Plant in Durgapur – some of the oldest steel plants and largest manufacturers of steel in the country. IISCO is the country’s oldest integrated steel plant. The SAIL plants have been the focus of modernization in the state. But the Indian government had <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/govt-shelves-plan-for-strategic-sale-of-sails-durgapur-alloy-steels-plant-3540461.html">plans</a> to sell the Alloy Steel Plant as a part of a strategic disinvestment. However, the sale has currently been deferred. As economic fortunes fade, the highlight of the 2019 election in this industrial belt, with joblessness and hopelessness, is the clash between two spent stars from the film world. In Asansol, incumbent MP Babul Supriyo from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who <a href="https://www.huffingtonpost.in/entry/moon-moon-sen-repeat-her-bankura-magic-in-asansol_in_5cc28f66e4b0817069670e75">won</a> by a majority of 70,000 votes, this time faces Bengal’s favourite – Moon Moon Sen from the Trinamool Congress (TMC). TMC has <a href="https://www.dnaindia.com/india/report-asansol-lok-sabha-constituency-candidates-for-2019-ls-poll-past-results-all-updates-2743974">never</a> won a seat from Asansol. Sen, who entered politics during the last general elections in 2014, had defeated CPI(M)’s Basudeb Acharia from Bankura, a constituency from where Acharia had won 9 times. Meanwhile, in Durgapur the sitting MP from TMC Mamtaz Sanghamita faces a tough competition from SS Ahluwalia, BJP’s long standing leader who currently has a seat in the Lok Sabha from Darjeeling. And there’s also a lot at stake. Asansol has been a victim of communal violence, after riots erupted in March 2018 on Ram Navami. Even today, the violence is at the <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/other-states/communal-divide-to-the-fore-in-asansol/article26960631.ece">core </a>of political campaigning in the city. The other issue that bothers the region is jobs. Illegal mining, which is common in the area, has been put to a stop during the elections, putting thousands of miners out of jobs. According to a <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/pti-stories/with-curb-on-illegal-mining-out-of-job-miners-in-west-bengal-mull-nota-119042800233_1.html">PTI report</a>, these miners will be voting NOTA as a sign of protest. Sail’ing in history Famous for being the industrial zones of West Bengal, the two cities, which are less than 50 kilometres away from each other, house two steel plants of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) – Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) and IISCO Steel Plant (ISP). And they are rich in history too. Queen Elizabeth had visited the Durgapur Steel Plant in 1961. While the Durgapur Steel Plant has a production capacity of 1.8 Million Ton Per Annum (MTPA), the IISCO Steel Plant has a capacity for production of 4.26 lakh tonnes of saleable steel and 2.54 lakh tonnes of pig iron annually, according to the official website. From then to now, the two steel plants have been a part of many historical things in India – including being one of the biggest suppliers of steel to the defence in India. The Durgapur steel plant recently made <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/defence/sail-supplies-steel-for-indian-armys-dhanush/articleshow/68809831.cms">news</a> for supplying steel to the Indian army to make the first homegrown artillery gun Dhanush. Asansol and Durgapur are also home to many other private industries’ manufacturing units. Back home in India, artists, amateur and professional, are joining the global chorus, sharpening their creative edge as they bring out covers and originals on the pandemic.Rap, spiritual, soft, parody, Punjabi folk and even 'cringe pop', different genres of music are synchronising chords to reach out to people through YouTube and social media channels. There's a ready audience. India has been under a three-week lockdown since March 24 and millions are confined to their homes to contain the spread of the disease that has infected more than 4,400 people and claimed at least 114 lives. Joining the corona 'band' wagon -- from Chanchal's 'Kitho Aaya' to Dhinchak's 'Hoga Na'

The iconic Sachin Tendulkar today celebrated his 43rd birthday by playing cricket with children from the ‘Make-A-Wish India’ organisation in the city, even as the fraternity wished him and waxed eloquence. 

	Tendulkar spent some time with the children, teaching them the basics of batting, bowling and fielding at the MIG Club. He posted the same on his official Facebook page.
 

	Tendulkar retired from all forms of cricket in November 2013 during the Test match against West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium.
 

	Tendulkar is the leading run-scorer in Tests and ODIs. He is the only cricketer to have hit 100 international centuries, and the first to score a double century in ODIs.
 

	Tendulkar received India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna from the President Pranav Mukherjee in 2014. He is the youngest recipient to date and the first ever sportsperson to receive the award.
 

	As he stepped into his 43rd year, wishes started to pour in on Twitter.

Sachin Tendulkar imparts cricket training to children to celebrate his 43rd birthday

Some opposition party members strongly condemned having "private individuals with their own agenda" for the meeting while a member questioned the logic of paying heed to views of people with "vested interests". 
 
Members said they were fine with individuals appearing before the panel who represent enterprises, but private individuals with ‘agenda’ cannot be put forth. 
 The Joint Committee on the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in <keyword id="6364579" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Land-acquisition">Land Acquisition</keyword>, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015 had called delegates from Foundation for Democratic Reforms, Bhoomi Adhikar Andolan, Sree Samayaa, Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, PRS Legislative Research and Dhanush Kumar. 
 
Two law students namely Aditya Manubarwala and Shardool Kulkarni also presented their views. 
 
Members objected when the Managing Director of Sree Samayaa, a private company from Mumbai, began expressing his views in favour of the Bill.

Waterlogged streets, shut power grids, a submerged airport, flooded houses, no transport, food or electricity have become a way of life for the people residing in Chennai, some of whom have also faced the fury of these unprecedented rains when they were left stranded sans transport or any help. 
 
Even as the MeT department predicted that the incessant rains are to last for four more days, the residents of the city are of the belief that Chennai will pull through as it always had. 
 
None of this however was enough for the national media to consider the floods as an important topic to be highlighted in its various mediums- be it newspapers or TV channels. Chennai barely found a mention in either of these places and the people of the city were ultimately left to fend for themselves. 
 
Chennai’s iconic newspaper The Hindu also became a victim to the vagaries of the rains when the paper was not printed for the first time in 137 years. 
 
According to the publisher, N. Murali, the employees were unable to make it to the printing press which is located 30 kms away from the city. 
At such a time of crisis, social media turned out to be the biggest saviours, which people from all over the country and the city co-operating to help out each other in whatever way they could. 
 
Actor Siddharth, best known for his role in Rang De Basanti have been one of the few people who were very active on Twitter highlighting helpline numbers, the grim situation due to the rains and arranging for food and rescue. 
 
Superstar Rajnikanth and his son-in law Dhanush weren’t far behind, either donating Rs 10 lakh and Rs 5 lakh respectively towards the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.

Light rains and overcast skies failed to dampen the enthusiasm of thousands of spectators who witnessed the nearly one-and-half hour-long parade that marched down the majestic Rajpath, India's ceremonial boulevard, amid unprecedented security cover. 
 
 major highlight of the parade was 149-member marching contingent from UAE comprising personnel from Presidential Guards, the Air Force, the Navy and Army. They were led by a band comprising 35 musicians from that country. 
 Al Nahyan, also Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE armed forces, was seated next to Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> who wore a pink color 'safa' (turban). The two leaders were seen sharing some light moments. 
 
 For the first time a contingent of the National Security Guard (NSG), popularly known as the Black Cat Commandos, was part of the march past. 
 
The parade also saw the fly-past of three LCA Tejas Aircraft flying at a height of 300 metres in 'Vic' formation and the Airborne Early Warning and Control System (AEW&amp;C) developed by DRDO. 
 
 The Indian Army's missile firing capability T-90 'Bhishma' tank, Infantry Combat Vehicle BMP-2K, Mobile Autonomous Launcher of the BrahMos Missile System, Weapon Locating Raddar 'Swathi' and Akash Weapons System and Dhanush Gun System were among the main draw in the mechanised columns. 
 Alongside the Crown Prince, the ceremonial parade was watched by Vice President <keyword id="6491214" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hamid-Ansari">Hamid Ansari</keyword>, former Prime Minister <keyword id="6359397" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Manmohan-Singh">Manmohan Singh</keyword>, Congress chief <keyword id="689" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sonia-Gandhi">Sonia Gandhi</keyword> and the country's top political and military brass, besides the diplomatic community. 
 
Tableaux from 17 states and Union Territories and six central ministries and departments showcased the varied historical, art and cultural heritage of the country. Goods and Services Tax (GST) was the the theme of the tableau of Central Board of Excise and Customs. 
 
21 of the 25 children who won the National Bravery Award also participated in the parade. Four children have received the award posthumously. 
 
 The grand finale of the parade was a spectacular flypast by the Indian Air Force which displayed various formations like 'Chakra' and 'Vic' leaving the spectators spell-bound. The 'Hercules' formation comprising three C-130J Super Hercules aircraft also drew loud cheers. 
 The theme of IAF tableau was "Air Dominance Through Network Centric Operations" and it displayed the scaled down models of Su-30 MKI, Mirage-2000, AWACS, UAV, Apache and Communication <keyword id="6358065" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Satellite">Satellite</keyword>. 
 
 The Indian Navy's tableau showcased the lethal Marine Commandos proceeding for action, the indigenously built Kolkata Class Destroyer and the Kalvari Class next generation attack submarines. It also showcased a model of the P-8I Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft. 
 
As per tradition, after unfurling the National Flag, the National Anthem was played followed by a 21 gun salute.

Jackie Shroff’s son Tiger is all set to taste the Friday fury of Bollywood when his upcoming film Heropanti hits the theatres. What’s more, with this movie, life has come full circle for Jackie who debuted with Hero some 30 years back and the current movie is a remake of the earlier one. With acting in his genes, a perfectly chiselled body, enviable looks and confident dance moves, 24-year-old Tiger appears to be a complete Bollywood package. 
 
Harshvardhan Kapoor After <keyword id="710" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sonam-Kapoor">Sonam Kapoor</keyword>, it’s time for kid brother Harshvardhan to go for a Bollywood outing. Taking after papa Anil Kapoor (including his looks), 21-year-old Harshvardhan initially assisted Anurag Kashyap in Bombay Velvet. But Kapoor Jr. will soon start shooting for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s, Mirza Sahibaan, where he will be playing the role of Mirza. It is said that Harshvardhan has cut himself off completely from the elitist lifestyle of Mumbai and is staying in Delhi to get into the skin of the character.

Suraj Pancholi and <keyword id="928985" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Athiya-Shetty">Athiya Shetty</keyword> 
While Tiger is busy with Heropanti, the remake of his father’s debut movie Hero stars two new star kids on the block. In this flick, Aditya Pancholi’s son Suraj and Suniel Shetty’s daughter Athiya will be playing the roles, which were portrayed by Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Sheshadri in the 1983 original. 
 
Akshara Haasan 
Kamal Haasan and Sarika’s daughter has finally made up her mind and given a nod to acting. But unlike her elder sister Shruti, Akshara is going to debut with a Bollywood movie. Rumours are rife that it is going to be an R. Balki film, starring Dhanush and Amitabh Bachchan. Now, that’s what we call a big break. 
 
Jhanvi Kapoor Going by her looks and the kind of exposure she has, this daughter of producer-director Boney Kapoor and actress <keyword id="6354580" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sridevi">Sridevi</keyword> may soon make it to a Bollywood movie. Buzz is rife that Jhanvi will enter Bollywood with a Karan Johar film and she is already taking diction and dancing classes for the same.

7 Star Kids Set To Make Waves In Bollywood

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/47830635.cms" />June is at the fag end and we almost have a mid-year report card of Bollywood. Though the year started on a dismal note, it picked up towards May and June. 
 
This year, January was like a drought month and even movies starring big names did not interest the audience. As Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha starrer-'Tevar'- failed to take off, even the Horrex (horror + sex) formula did not work out for ‘Alone’ and ‘Khamoshiyan’. 
 
Other movies that released in January and failed to make a mark included Sonam Kapoor-starrer ‘Dolly Ki Doli’, 'Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene', ‘Crazy Cukkad Family’, ‘Hawaizaada’ among others. 
 
The only respite that the Bollywood lovers got was from Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’, which also became the first movie of 2015 to enter the Rs 100 crore club. 
 
But the jinx did not end in January as February continued to bring more bad news for the industry. 
 
The big shocker came in the form of ‘Shamitabh’. The movie, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush, was directed by R Balki, the maker who has given us movies like Pa and Cheeni Kum. 
 
Later in the month, ‘Roy’ released, which recorded a good start but by weekend the movie fizzled out. Most trade pundits pegged the crucial India-Pakistan match at the World Cup as the reason for the drop of sales on Sunday but the movie could not recover much post this phase also because of negative word of mouth. 
 
Thankfully, later in the same month we had movies like ‘Badlapur’ and ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’. Both managed to gather decent collections at the Box Office. In fact, ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ was a complete surprise package and managed to pull crowds even in its third week . 
 
March threw a mixed bag as Anushka Sharma starrer 'NH-10' received critical acclaim. April again was a dry month as Bollywood had nothing to offer that could have clicked with the Bolly buffs. 
 
However, Bollywood saw a turnaround in May. It started on a high note with Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Gabbar is Back’, which went to collect Rs 86.55 crore at the Box Office. This was followed by Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan’s 'Piku', which struck a right chord with the audience and collected Rs 111 crore worldwide. 
 
Later in the month, Kangana Ranaut wowed the audience with her spectacular acting in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’. As per reports, the movie managed to collect Rs 190.87 crore worldwide. Given that the movie was made with Rs 31 crore budget, it stood out and is the most profitable movie of 2015 till date. 
 
But, the disappointment came from ‘Bombay Velvet’. Everybody had high hopes from Ranbir Kapoor’s flick but it fell flat. 
 
The momentum seems to continue with ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ and ‘ABCD 2’. ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ has managed Rs 37.05 crore in the first weekend and is holding the fort well. Also ABCD 2, sequel of ABCD, managed to get the biggest opening for 2015 and continues to do a good business over the week. 
 
The later half will see a slew of big- starrer movies such as Salman Khan starrer ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, Vikas Bahl of Queen fame’s ‘Shaandaar’, ‘Singh is Bling’ featuring Akshay Kumar, Nikhil Advani’s ‘Katti Batti’, Aishwarya Rai’s comeback movie ‘Jazbaa’ and also ‘Dilwale’ in which fans will see Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol paired together. In addition, there will also be a third installment of ‘Hate Story’, ‘Hera Pheri’ and ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum’ to look forward to. 
 
Commenting on the movie sentiment of 2015, Komal Nahata, Trade Analyst shared, “It has been a good 2015 so far. Sure there were some upsets in the start of the year but May has been extremely kind and the rest of the year looks really promising." 
 
We hope that the forthcoming movies get the cash ringer buzzing for Bollywood and we continue to see some entertaining movies in the latter half of the year.

Mid-year assessment: It was a roller coaster ride for Bollywood

Since time immemorial, mankind has been experiencing different kinds of warfare in all the dimensions possible. Back in those days waging war was more or less intended to eliminate evil and to establish truth for which highly sophisticated weapons were used only when they needed it the most to avoid any possible large scale demolition and collateral damage. Yes, that was the power and technology they had thousands years back. <keyword id="49038" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mahabharata">Mahabharata</keyword>: The Influence 

	Mahabharata is one of the two major epics of ancient India and is written in Sanskrit. It consists of the epic narrative of the Kurukshetra War apart from the devotional and philosophical aspects of the goals of life. The Kurukshetra war had witnessed a lot of ancient weaponry which was far more advanced and futuristic than what we posses today.
 The concept of <keyword id="94511" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="astra">Astra</keyword> (Missile) and Dhanush (Launchers) emerged from there. Astra was a supernatural hand-carried weapon blessed by a specific deity. The function of an Astra is more than that of a missile. It is said that Astras used in Mahabharata probably might have also used technologies of emitting most dangerous rays like Gamma and others, which have exceptional powers to penetrate. Some Astras returns to the person who launches it, for instance, Krishna's Sudharsana Chakra. This may be similar to the reusable missiles which the <keyword id="119061" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organization">Indian Space Research Organization</keyword> (ISRO) is working on. How could it be possible to manufacture such advanced weapons, thousands of years ago without knowing the complex technology and without having large scale industrial infrastructure? Well, those weapons were guided by some kind of alien GPS system for long range targets and commanded by the Mantras which are similar to today's log-ins and passwords. 

	Astras were also used for defensive purposes similar to a Tesla Shield which is used to destroy the enemy Astra coming towards it. The modern "Tesla shield" discharges electrical energy and any incoming physical object which hits the shell receives an enormous discharge of that energy and instantly vaporizes. It can also be compared to the anti-missile air defense system of the modern times.
 

	India has a Beyond Visual Range Air to Air Missile (BVRAAM) named Astra. Astra is designed to be capable of engaging targets at varying ranges and altitudes allowing for engagement of both short-range targets (up to 20 km) and long-range targets (up to 80 km) using alternative propulsion modes and the missile is technologically more sophisticated than the nuclear capable Agni missile series of strategic ballistic missiles.
 

	Weapons used in Mahabharata 
	 
	 

	Astras like Brahmashira, Brahmasthra, Pasupatasthra, Vaishnavasthra, Narayana Astra, Agneyasthra, Vayavasthra, Nagasthra, Vajrasthra, Varunasthra etc. were used in Mahabharata along with positive indications of the use of Nuclear weapons, otherwise how could the war cause the death of around 1.5 billion people in a matter of 18 days. The wide degree of devastation found at the site of Mohanjo Daro corresponds exactly to Nagasaki. Davenport, who published his findings in a book named, "Atomic Destruction in 2000 B.C.", in 1979 had said that there was an epicenter about 50 yards wide where everything was crystallized, fused or melted. 
 

	Barbarika, a character in Mahabharata, had the ability to mark its targets either to save it or to destroy it with the help of his unique Astras. Now consider this, India's DRDO has a two-stage missile named Nirbhay which has the capability of picking out a target and attacking it among multiple other objects. The missile also has a loitering capability, i.e., it can circumvent a target and perform several maneuvers and then re-engage it. 
 

	The Vedic Concept
 

	The Vedas (meaning “knowledge”) comprises of four ancient Indian texts, with the oldest dating back about 1500 BC to 1200 BC. They are also the oldest writings of Hinduism. The four texts of the Vedas include Rigveda, Yajurveda, Sama-Veda, and Atharva-Veda. 
	 The Vedas influenced many from <keyword id="903829" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nicola-Tesla">Nicola Tesla</keyword> to Bohr and inspired them to explore the new vistas of science and technology and to imagine the unimaginable. Bohr, Heisenberg and Schrödinger regularly read Vedic texts. Heisenberg stated, “Quantum theory will not look ridiculous to people who have read Vedanta.” Vedanta is the conclusion of Vedic thought. 
	 <keyword id="75565" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Henry-David-Thoreau">Henry David Thoreau</keyword> said: "In the morning I bathe my intellect in the stupendous philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita... in comparison with which... our modern world and its literature seems puny and trivial." 
	 <keyword id="2933609" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Julius-Robert-Oppenheimer">Julius Robert Oppenheimer</keyword>, the principle developer of the atomic bomb, stated that "The Vedas are the greatest privilege of this century." During the explosion of the first atomic bomb, Oppenheimer quoted several Bhagavad-Gita verses from the 11th chapter, such as: 
	 
	 

	"Death I am, cause of destruction of the worlds..." 
	 
	 

	When Oppenheimer was asked if this is the first nuclear explosion, he significantly replied: "Yes, in modern times," implying that ancient nuclear explosions may have previously occurred. 
	 
	 

	It is said that science and religion are not different; it's just that science is too young to understand it. Mahabharata and the Vedas have influenced a generation of the scientists and is still relevant in creating the cutting-edge advanced and futuristic technologies for the mankind including the modern weaponry and warfare.
