Now, thanks to <a href="https://sweetshotel.amsterdam/">SWEETS hotel</a>, not only can visitors spend their days soaking up the beauty of Amsterdam's canals, but they can also wake up to panoramic views of them.</p><p>SWEETS hotel doesn't operate in the traditional sense ⁠- there is no lobby or check-in counter. Instead, it consists of 28 individual hotel rooms located throughout the city. The best part? The rooms are located on or near bridges in converted bridge operators' houses built between 1673 and 2009.</p><p>In early October, Dezeen, a London-based architecture and design magazine, recognized the innovative nature of SWEETS hotel, naming it the best hotel and short stay interior of 2019 in its second annual <a href="https://www.dezeen.com/awards/">Dezeen Awards</a>.</p><p>"This project is a fantastic initiative and collaboration between the city, the designer and the developer," <a href="https://www.dezeen.com/2019/10/16/dezeen-awards-interiors-category-winners-revealed/">said the Dezeen Awards interiors jury</a>. <ul class="summary-list"><li>The <keyword id="1040893" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Capsule-Hotel">Capsule Hotel</keyword> and Bookstore in <keyword id="1334" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="China">China</keyword> was recently named hotel and short-stay interior of the year as well as interior project of the year at the <a href="https://www.dezeen.com/awards/2020/shortlists/capsule-hotel-and-bookstore-atelier-tao-c-2/">Dezeen Awards 2020</a>. </li><li>It was formerly the home of the local village chief.</li><li>It now features 24-foot ceilings and towering bamboo bookshelves that have 20 tiny capsule rooms hidden amongst them.</li><li><strong>It is important to note that </strong><strong><a href="https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/travel-during-covid19.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention</a></strong><strong> warns </strong><strong>that "</strong><strong><keyword id="6354692" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Travel">travel</keyword></strong><strong> increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19."</strong></li></ul><p>A new hotel in China was designed with bookworms in mind. </p><p>Shanghai <keyword id="51418" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="architecture">architecture</keyword> firm <a href="https://www.ateliertaoc.com/">Atelier Tao+C</a> designed the Capsule Hotel and Bookstore in the village of Qinglongwu, China, which recently won both hotel and short-stay interior of the year and interior project of the year at the <a href="https://www.dezeen.com/awards/2020/shortlists/capsule-hotel-and-bookstore-atelier-tao-c-2/">Dezeen Awards 2020</a>. </p><p>A <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-bookstores-in-the-world-2016-10">bookstore</a>, <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-libraries-in-the-world-2016-10">library</a>, and hostel hybrid, the hotel features massive bamboo bookshelves that house over 30,000 books, with 20 tiny rooms hidden amongst the stacks.</p><div type="image" title="5   view from the lobby, looking to the floating section of male sector" height="1500" width="2000" msid="79848506" hostid="261"></div><p>The hotel, which can accommodate 20 guests, is split into two separate areas, with men housed on one side and women on the other, each side featuring a communal bathroom.</p><p>Each capsule room, only 4.4 feet high, can fit no more than a single mattress but is equipped with lighting, shelves, and hooks. Luggage and larger items, however, need to be stored in cabinets right outside.</p><div type="image" title="Capsule Hotel Dezeen Awards 2020 3" height="3000" width="2000" msid="79848508" hostid="261"></div><p>The hotel is a far cry from the dark and dusty spaces the idea of a library usually conjures: Thanks to a glass-walled extension of the building, new skylights, and 24-foot high ceilings, the space is bright, airy, and inviting. A cobblestone-like floor and exposed rammed earth walls even give the interior an outdoorsy vibe.</p><div type="image" title="4   view to the east end, from the bar area" height="1500" width="2000" msid="79848511" hostid="261"></div><p>Throughout the stacks of books, guests will find little paths and spots to read and short stairways with sharp turns. Atelier Tao+C told Insider in an email that this is meant to simulate the landscape outside of the hotel, "people meandering in the winding paths in the mountain area."</p><div type="image" title="1   ariel view of east facade" height="1500" width="2000" msid="79848513" hostid="261"></div><p>Atelier Tao+C said that the hotel was originally a two-story vernacular house made of rammed earth that was formerly the home of the local village chief. It has already gone through two expansions, one in the '60s and another in the '70s.</p><p>Renovations on the Capsule Hotel and Bookstore began in October 2018 and took 10 months to complete. </p><div type="image" title="3   the bookshelves and new inserted corrugated polycarbonate building" height="1855" width="2000" msid="79848515" hostid="261"></div><p>Due to the coronavirus pandemic, rooms are currently not available for booking, though the bookstore and library portion opened to the public in June 2020. </p><p>A website for the space does not exist yet. According to Atelier Tao+C, the hotel's owner did not expect the amount of worldwide attention the hotel has received and is working on creating a booking platform. </p><div type="image" title="7   The library has a view" height="1945" width="2000" msid="79848518" hostid="261"></div><p>Post-pandemic, rooms will be available for around $35 a night.</p><p>The former home's renovation into a hotel and library is part of a "village renewal program."</p><div type="image" title="9   the detail of stairs and bookshelves" height="1500" width="2000" msid="79848520" hostid="261"></div><p>Atelier Tao+C said that the hotel is meant to attract more travelers to the village, while the reading room and community bookstore is meant as a space for locals to congregate.</p><p>Atelier Tao+C said it worked with a local bookstore chain to choose which books to display: The 30,000 books cover a wide range of literature and philosophy, as well as a solid selection of art books.</p><div type="image" title="2   north facade night view" height="1333" width="1777" msid="79848523" hostid="261"></div><p>The way the bookstore works is that people can pick a book to read on-site. Peek inside a tiny capsule hotel room hidden inside of a library and bookstore in the middle of the mountains in China

<p><span>An Indian design firm has come up with a solution for transporting your bike in the easiest and most compact way possible.</span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.fastcoexist.com/3033163/the-bike-fits-in-a-backpack-so-its-super-easy-to-bring-on-trips-some-assembly-required?partner=rss#1">Kit Bike</a> is made from an assortment of hollow aluminium tubes that can be wrenched together for an approximately 10 minutes, creating fully functional bike.<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> </span></p>
<p>"Conventional bikes are awkward in every way except when you ride them," Amit Mirchandani, managing and creative director for <a href="http://www.lucid.co.in/" target="_blank">Lucid Design</a> told <a href="http://www.dezeen.com/2014/07/15/kit-bike-lucid-design-packs-into-a-bag/">Dezeen</a>. "The Kit Bike is so small when disassembled it fits in a bag you could carry as a backpack. When you assemble the bike, you get a full-size bike that is comfortable to ride."</p>
<p>So far the "bike in the bag" is only a concept, but earlier this month it won the<a href="http://www.red-dot.sg/en/"> Red Dot 2014 Design Award</a>, which chooses the best product designs throughout multiple industries.</p>
<p><span>The package would even come with a custom bag that has designated sections for all 21 parts.</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><br /></span></p>
<p>Lucid Design currently has no plans to produce Kit Bike, but would consider it for the future.</p>

The Shanghai Tower stretches </span><span>2,073 feet, making it the world's second tallest building behind the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/dubais-burj-khalifa-observation-deck-2014-10">Burj Khalifa</a>&#xa0;tower<span>&#xa0;in Dubai</span>. The&#xa0;tower took nearly seven years to complete and had an estimated construction cost of <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/2b681036-4d17-11e3-bf32-00144feabdc0">$2.4 billion</a>.</span></p><p><span>Height isn't the only impressive characteristic of&#xa0;the Tower, which was designed by<span> <span>the American architectural firm </span><a href="http://www.gensler.com/" title="Gensler">Gensler</a>&#xa0;and&#xa0;<span>Chinese architect Jun Xia</span></span>.&#xa0;It also features <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/05/asia/worlds-fastest-tower/">the world's fastest elevators</a>,&#xa0;<a href="http://www.timeoutshanghai.com/features/Blog-Around_Town/35889/We-went-up-the-Shanghai-Tower.html">the world's highest</a><span>&#xa0;restaurant, an observation deck, and a swimming pool with a view. <p><a href="http://www.cityam.com/206992/google-rents-more-office-space-king-s-cross-after-campus-delay">City AM reports that the US tech giant has decided to rent office space in a building across the street </a>from where its giant <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword> HQ was due to be built.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.techworld.com/news/startups/google-london-office-with-rooftop-pool-running-track-approved-3467287/">Google was planning an unusual design for its London office, Techworld reports.</a> Instead of a normal high-rise office building, Google wanted to create a one million square foot "groundscraper" that would have been as long as The Shard is tall.</p>

<p>But Google's ambitious plan for its new London office has been put on hold.</p>
<p>Google has asked its architects to go back to the drawing board and redesign the UK HQ. It had initially wanted to move staff into the new building in 2016, but the date has been pushed back several times. First the new Google building was delayed until 2017, and then <a href="http://www.techworld.com/news/startups/google-rent-offices-at-kings-cross-as-it-stalls-on-uk-hq-3593913/">Google told Techworld that there is</a> "no target completion date."</p>
<p>Instead of completely abandoning its plan to build a HQ near King's Cross station, Google has instead decided to rent the entirety of 6 Pancras Square, an office block that's due to be completed in 2016.</p>
