From this interface, viewers can click on whatever story they want to watch. It's sort of like if the tiny circles at the top of users' feeds went bigger and full-screen, the report said on Wednesday. This is a minor change, but it rounds out the desktop feature and makes it more appealing to use, especially as people are on their computers more frequently while working from home. The photo-sharing platform started testing this new feature earlier this month. A spokesperson from Instagram, earlier this month, told Engadget that this feature is being tested and it has begun appearing to a "small group" of Instagram users. For the most part, Instagram has left Stories unchanged for years. The format is the same as always, with posts being ephemeral. Most of Instagram's changes to the format come in the form of creative tools, like stickers for small businesses and new fonts. Instagram launches new layout for "Stories" feature for desktop users

On January 19, India had reported 10,064 new cases, the lowest so far this year. And, last year the lowest was recorded on June 3 with 9,633 cases. The <keyword id="191419" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Health-and-Family-Welfare">Ministry of Health and Family Welfare</keyword> on Thursday said there were 123 fresh deaths taking the overall toll to 1,53,847. As per the Ministry's data, 1,03,73,606 people have recovered so far and currently, there are 1,73,740 active cases. The recovery rate stands at 96.94 per cent, while the fatality rate at 1.62 per cent. About 80 per cent of the daily new cases are reported from eight states -- Kerala, <keyword id="13126" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra">Maharashtra</keyword>, <keyword id="6354780" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka">Karnataka</keyword>, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, <keyword id="6354766" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword>, <keyword id="6357783" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="West-bengal">West Bengal</keyword> and Madhya Pradesh. India records 11,666 new COVID- 19 cases in last 24 hours

Samsung shipped 62.5 million units in the festive quarter (October-December period). The Galaxy A series, a mid-to-low-end product lineup, continued to perform well. realme became the fastest growing brand for the year, growing 65 per cent (YoY) in shipment volume. The global smartphone market declined 1 per cent (YoY) in Q4 2020. However, the market rose 8 per cent (QoQ) in Q4 2020, recovering from the global impact of Covid-19, according to latest research from Counterpoint's Market Monitor service. "It is interesting to note that the market also made a distinct migration from feature phones to smartphones as the <keyword id="6355190" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Devices">devices</keyword> became a medium for education, work and entertainment. A <keyword id="6374218" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Strong">strong</keyword> 5G push by the industry through reduced device prices and operator tariffs further boosted the market's recovery process," said Research Analyst Aman Chaudhary. For Q4, <keyword id="6354427" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="apple">Apple</keyword> captured the top spot in the global smartphone market and for the full year 2020, it was second with 15 per cent market share. "The pent-up demand for a new 5G iPhone, strong carrier promotions, especially in the US, and the iPhone 11's longevity are some of the reasons for this growth," the report mentioned. Despite the sanctions and severe component shortages after the escalated US trade ban, Huawei managed to achieve the third spot, thanks to its strong performance in China. Xiaomi's global smartphone shipments grew 31 per cent (YoY) to reach 43 million units in Q4 2020. OPPO achieved 9 per cent market share (34 million units) in Q4 2020. "OPPO's strong performance was driven by its aggressive strategies to expand its presence in the overseas markets, particularly in Europe and the Middle East and Africa (MEA)," Chaudhary said. Google performance improved over the quarter driven by the Pixel 4A and Pixel 5. It offered attractive discounts on its new range of 5G devices in the US which emerged as a strong alternative to other mid-range Android devices, the report said. Samsung beats Apple to secure the top spot in global smartphone market in 2020, says new report

Apple, which has already started manufacturing certain iPhone models in India, has worked out locations for its retail stores in the country as well. Apple is likely to open its first physical store in Mumbai this year, according to earlier reports. "We put the online store there for example, and last quarter was the full first quarter of the online store and that has gotten a great reaction to it and has helped us achieve the results that we got to last quarter," Cook told the analysts on the earnings call late on Wednesday. "We are also going in there with retail stores in the future and so we look to that to be another great initiative, and we continue to develop the channel as well." In February last year, Cook said that the company is set to open its first branded retail store in the country in 2021. "I don't want somebody else to run the brand for us," he told investors at the annual shareholder meeting. "We wouldn't be a very good partner in retail. We like to do things our way," the Apple CEO mentioned. Apple currently has third-party reseller outlets to sell its range of devices in the country. The plan for opening owned stores will certainly help Apple in giving a controlled experience of its devices and services as it intends and designed them to be in the country. Riding on the stellar performance of iPhone 11 and XR, Apple for the first time doubled its smartphone market share in India to nearly 4 per cent in the festive quarter of 2020, a CyberMedia Research (CMR) report shared said earlier this week. After reporting an all-time high quarterly revenue that crossed $100 billion, Cook said: "If you take India for example, we doubled our business last quarter compared to a year ago but our absolute level of business there is still quite low relative to the size of the opportunity". Cook said the company is doing a number of things in India. "There are several markets I alluded to before. India is one of those where our share is quite low. It did improve from the year ago quarter, our business roughly doubled over that period of time, so we feel very good about the trajectory," Cook elaborated. Despite arriving in October, the iPhone 12 contributed significantly towards the rise of Apple in Q4 (October-December) in the country, according to data provided by market intelligence firm CMR. The tech giant registered over 60% growth (year-on-year) in its India business in the full year 2020 while for the festive quarter, the growth was an impressive 100% (YoY). <ul><li>Varun Duggirala, Content Chief &amp; Co-founder, The Glitch, Apaksh Gupta, Founder &amp; CEO, One Impression; <keyword id="3288876" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sejal-Kumar">Sejal Kumar</keyword>, YouTuber, Actor and Singer; Be YouNick, YouTuber and Content Creator; and Viraj Sheth, Co-founder and CEO, Monk Entertainment share the new trends that have emerged during the <keyword id="91743" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="lockdown">lockdown</keyword> in <keyword id="2540701" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Influencer-marketing">influencer marketing</keyword> and how they continue to stay motivated and creative. </li><li>They further shared with us how this lockdown will impact influencer marketing landscape in the long-run and things that brands need to take cognizance of -- while coming up with campaigns during a crisis. </li></ul>With the Covid-19 lockdown in its 14th day already, we thought it would be a good time to shine the spotlight on the influencer marketing landscape. Considering people have been stuck at their homes, and will be, for a few more days to come at least, people have been increasingly consuming content online, which has given influencer marketing a boost. In a riveting conversation around how the influencer marketing ecosystem is shaping up moderated by Varun Duggirala, Content Chief &amp; Co-founder, The Glitch with Apaksh Gupta, Founder &amp; CEO, One Impression; Sejal Kumar, YouTuber, Actor and Singer; Be YouNick, YouTuber and Content Creator; and Viraj Sheth, Co-founder and CEO, Monk Entertainment spoke about their individual experiences and their views on what lies in the future, for the creators as well as the industry in general. <div type="twitter" handle="BiIndia" handlename="Business Insider India🇮🇳" image="http://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/1232926719016718336/sfffJHNV_normal.jpg" favoritecount="33" retweetcount="10" status=".@varunduggi, @followtheglitch, @apaksh537, One Impression, @viraj_sheth, @MonkEtweets in conversation along with Y… https://t.co/35bOkJBauy" createdat="1586171138000" id="1247118262497726464"></div> Speaking about how the industry is shaping up right now, what are the kinds of brands that are investing on influencers, Sheth said, “Currently, a lot of people feel that marketing spends will move to Digital and influencers because there’s not going to be any outdoor productions. Nobody is outdoors so there’s no point spending on billboards and hoardings. The other thing is, even with Digital, when brands create content, they have a big team around it, where they get a production agency and a talent team. But right now, even that’s not going to happen. The only thing is to engage with a lot of content creators and influencers through their own native content pieces. I have been seeing a lot of opportunities but in general since the market is down, its players in e-sports, e-learning or these apps that don’t have any manufacturing liabilities that are spending right now.” Seconding Sheth, Gupta said, “The net impact is negative as many brands from the FMCG sector who are not spending because of logistics issues and e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart and Amazon are a huge part of their spend. However, a lot of companies from the gaming sector, education and finance have increased their budgets tremendously because they have no barriers. Secondly, it is an opportunity for them to become an integral part of user behaviour. So we have seen certain categories go really crazy on their spends right now.” The lockdown comes with its limitations. As a content creator, it can be challenging to stay motivated and be creative. However, for Sejal Kumar, who started her journey as a content creator with a tiny tripod and her parents as her camera crew, house arrest hasn’t really impacted her content. It has, in fact, pushed her to come up with newer ideas, make do with limited resources and reflect on her long-term strategy. Kumar said, “It is nice to go back to the way I started. It has been annoying for my parents to keep helping me but I like it because it is relaxing and less stressful. This is helping me think a little bit differently. However, it is overbearing when people tell me to make more content because people are at home and consuming it more than ever, I’m not taking too much stress about that. I do what I want to, I take more time out for myself.” Nick went live on Instagram a year ago and now, that is his primary medium to connect with his followers. He has put YouTube on hold. He said, “I work with a team and our creation process isn’t exactly raw. We work with good equipment and a proper setup. So currently, I am making all the content that I can create from home. It is all really short and crisp content that you can post on your Instagram rather than on YouTube.” Brands have turned to digital influencers as consumption and engagement on social media platforms continue to see a significant rise. Pinterest has added 40 million users in the last month. Giants like WHO and Dettol have also recognised the potential in TikTok's reach. With TV production on hold, Gupta said the influencer marketing industry is only going to grow from here and lead the way. He said, "People and brands who were not thinking of influencer marketing as a channel, who were spending between 1% to 4%, are looking at it in a major way. While the net impact might be negative at the moment, when things go back to normal, influencer marketing is going to blow up. It is going to be four to five years ahead in the industry." On what lies ahead for him in the next few weeks, Nick said that he had been waiting to work on a bigger piece of content that he has finally found the time to work on. “While I have not yet decided what platform to put it out on, I am very happy to be finally able to work on a bigger piece of content.” Kumar thinks that once we resume normalcy, there is going to be a big change in the working environment. Organisations will continue using digital mediums. She said, “They will try to remove activities that do not require people to be in the same room. The process will become obsolete; it is going to be the same with creators as well. For collabs, we may not need to meet people physically.” On what lies ahead for Monk Entertainment, Sheth explained, “As an organization, our next plan is to figure out how to re-initiate lot of the new wings we had created because after this ends, brands will go all out in terms of spending. Over the last 2-3 months, brands, especially FMCG players, haven’t had enough exposure to the audiences. So the goal is to be able to capitalize on that opportunity.”

<ul><li>In our latest interview series, we talk to brands to understand how they are coping with the new normal and their strategies towards navigating these difficult times.</li><li>Samir Singh, Global EVP, Skin Cleansing at <keyword id="45009" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Unilever">Unilever</keyword> tells us what kind of demand it has seen for its flagship brand Lifebuoy and how the organisation has increased its production to meet the increasing demand.</li><li>The global monthly production of Lifebuoy hand sanitizer increased by 56 times and liquid hand wash by three times compared to a typical month in 2019, Singh shares the challenges they faced and brand’s marketing strategy. </li></ul>The global threat from Coronavirus is continuing to grow, and at a rapidly accelerating rate. This has made even slackers wash their hands at least four times a day. As a result, FMCG brands that manufacture hand sanitizers and liquid soaps have seen their sales swelling up. Furthermore, the increase in awareness about personal hygiene and care is also driving the market’s growth. According to Technavio, Market Intelligence Agency, the <keyword id="9361507" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="hand-sanitizer-market">hand sanitizer market</keyword> in India is poised to grow by USD 405.31 million during 2020-2024 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Its analysts estimate the market to grow at a CAGR of 61.02% till 2024. To meet this increasing demand, the global monthly production of Lifebuoy hand sanitizer increased by 56 times and liquid hand wash by three times compared to a typical month in 2019. And now, as people start stepping out, Unilever’s Lifebuoy is expecting a higher demand for its hygiene products. “We have obviously seen an increase in demand for hand hygiene products. Handwashing has never been more important, and, at Lifebuoy, we believe that we have an important role to play to ensure that people can get hold of the products they need. As people start venturing outdoors and returning to work, school and other aspects of their lives, we anticipate an increase in demand for more portable hand hygiene products such as hand sanitizers,” shares Samir Singh, Global EVP, Skin Cleansing at Unilever. Telling us how the brand managed to meet the ever-increasing demand in the past three months, Singh said, “Throughout the pandemic we have been working hard to ensure continuity in our operations and supply chain to help meet demand and ensure products reach the communities we serve. We have achieved this by prioritising production of hand wash, soap and hand sanitizer on lines across Unilever’s factories; setting-up new factories; and working with manufacturing partners.” A lot of companies like RSH Global, Nivea, Emami, Cipla Health, Dabur have made their maiden entries into the hand sanitiser market to ride the demand and to help people stay safe. Lifebuoy will also continue to look for newer opportunities and innovate to help its consumers. “At Lifebuoy, we continue to explore opportunities to help our consumers feel protected and safe. For example, we anticipate that as countries ease out of lockdown, many people will be looking for more portable, ‘on-the-go’ formats such as hand sanitizers and wipes to help maintain good hand hygiene,” said Singh. Moving beyond competition The pandemic has also made brands to keep competition aside and remind its consumers that everybody is in this together. Globally, brands like Nike and Adidas joined hands to protest against George Floyd’s murder. As a brand and as part of our purpose, we use a variety of methods and channels to promote and inspire good hand hygiene practices. In response to the pandemic, we are using the power and influence of our media reach to improve handwashing behaviours by rallying millions of people to #dothelifebuoy in an engaging and ‘sticky’ manner. We’ve launched this global challenge across Instagram and Tiktok, with about 50 billion views and counting, across India, Indonesia, Singapore, South Africa and the Gulf. On mentioning competitors, he said, “When the pandemic first emerged, we launched a public service campaign which encouraged the use of all soap – not just Lifebuoy but competitor brands too – with the line ‘Please use the soap nearest to you. Not just Lifebuoy but any soap like Dettol, Lux or Hamam.’” Coronavirus is the biggest teacher This highly volatile market, Singh said, has taught him the importance of being authentic, responsible, and consistent in communicating with your consumers. Elaborating on the lessons he has learnt lately, he said, “Authenticity, because your brand purpose has to be in the DNA of your brand, it can’t be invented artificially during the time of crisis. People see through that kind of purpose washing. Responsibility because people expect especially at these times for brands and institutions to do the right thing, even if it is not immediately business apparent. That’s why we have advocated the use of even our competitors' soap brands since January, and that’s why we continue to direct people to official sources of information from reputed government health bodies. Consistency, because otherwise brands won’t have impact at scale. Brands need to do tangible things on the ground that make a difference, rather than only talk about things in communications and advertising.” The need for hygiene products has never been higher, which has made Lifebuoy realise how important a role it plays in consumer’s life. “Never before in history has a consumer goods category played such a central role in the future wellbeing of the world – that is a huge responsibility for everyone who works in this industry, and that’s what drives us every day to make a small difference, one soap at a time,” concluded Singh.
