<keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> is now looking forward to expand its business from consumer care and lighting business to detergents, energy drinks and fabric conditioners. This will intensify the competition in sectors dominated by global giants <keyword id="6365619" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-UniLever">Hindustan Unilever</keyword> and Procter &amp; Gamble. 
 "The focus will be on cross leveraging of assets. With backend integration, we will enter newer categories under existing brands, with existing formulations, manufacturing and supply," <keyword id="198245" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro-Consumer">Wipro Consumer</keyword> chief executive <keyword id="4211969" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="vine-agrawal">Vine Agrawal</keyword> told ET. 
 
The Rs 5,900-crore Wipro Consumer Care has done 10 international acquisitions in a decade and will adapt a similar strategy for all globally acquired brands ¬ of tapping new categories under existing brands. The key markets will include China, the Middle East and Malaysia as some of its key strategic markets. 
 
"The focus will be on investing in new, under leveraged categories by leveraging existing ones across countries," he told ET. 
 
However, talking in local context, the maker of Santoor soap and Aramusk male grooming products has not followed the acquisition strategy. 
 
"We are going more global because there's very little happening in India in terms of acquisitions. We can be an enthusiastic buyer but there has to be a willing seller of size and repute, at valuations that are workable," Agrawal told ET. 
 According to data by researcher Nielsen, Santoor is the No 3 brand within soaps with a 9% share, after HUL's Lifebuoy and Lux, and followed by <keyword id="6488831" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dettol">Dettol</keyword> from <keyword id="73803" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reckitt-Benckiser">Reckitt Benckiser</keyword> and <keyword id="6369697" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Godrej">Godrej</keyword> Consumer Products' No 1. 
 
On the consumption outlook, Agrawal said: "We need one more good monsoon and multiple drivers in the economy for consumption revival."

Venturing into lifestyle largely and then into <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/topic/fmcg">FMCG</a> products, this <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Kolkata">Kolkata</a> based company has efficiently removed the tag of being a tobacco brand. Now, the FMCG-Hospitality conglomerate plans to expand its portfolio to health and home care segments as well. 
 
Having acquired Savlon from Johnson &amp; Johnson about six months back, ITC will be introducing hand wash, hand sanitizer, shower gel and floor, glass and toilet cleaners under the brand. 
 
"By the end of next year, ITC plans to bring nearly 100 different packs across variants within these categories, each competing directly with Reckitt Benckiser brands," one of the officials said. 
 
Dettol, the uncrowned king in this segment has been enjoying the leverage for quite a long time. British consumer giant <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Reckitt+Benckiser">Reckitt Benckiser</a>, which manufactures the antiseptic also has other brands like Harpic, Lizol and Colin. However, Savlon had sales of Rs 65 crore during fiscal 2014, trailing Dettol. Now that Savlon has an insignificant presence in hand wash, ITC may play a bigger role in changing the game. 
 
India has a Rs 16,000-crore soaps market, where <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=unilever">Unilever</a>’s Lifebuoy controls the highest market share with 17%. Dettol has a 7.7% market share and ITC’s Vivel has a 2.5% share. 
ITC aims to achieve Rs 1 lakh crore by 2030, which is almost a 10 folds jump from its present revenue of Rs 9,038 crore. 
 
Within the personal care business, the company has not been able to gain substantial traction as it did in deodorants, where it became the second-largest brand. The cash cow - packaged foods - is perhaps the only one that has been performing well, after being the second-largest snack maker, largest branded atta company as well as the third-largest biscuit maker in the country.

New Delhi, Mar 5 () Hand sanitizer makers have seen up to 10-fold jump in demand, as the number of coronavirus cases in India is on the rise. The companies have increased the production amid reports of non-availability of hand sanitizers in the market, as people have started buying them after cases of coronavirus appeared in the national capital region. "We have seen a 10 times demand for hand sanitizers over the last month," The Himalaya Drug Company CEO Philipe Haydon told . He further said, "We are ramping up our production line to cater to the demand of sanitizers and handwashes nationwide that can help people take precautionary measures. We launched awareness drives on hand hygiene in the year 2000." FMCG firm Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), which is also present in the hand sanitizer segment, has also witnessed the similar trends and the company has increased the production of Protekt hand sanitizers and hand wash. "We have ramped up our production capacity. We are also trying to ramp up through our vendors also," Godrej Consumer Products Ltd CEO (India and SAARC) Sunil Kataria told . HUL, which sells Lifebouy hand sanitizers, has also redoubled its efforts to make the products accessible in such time. "Given the surge in demand for hygiene products, we have redoubled our efforts to ensure that consumers have access to products that keep them safe such as Lifebuoy hand sanitizers and hand wash," said an HUL spokesperson. ITC, which is present in the segment through its brand Savlon, said it is ensuring that there is an adequate supply of hygiene products in the market. "ITC is ensuring adequate supply of Savlon hygiene products in the market. Savlon continues to focus on enhancing awareness about hand hygiene and urges consumers to maintain good hygiene practices," according to an ITC spokesperson. However, FMCG major RB India (erstwhile Reckitt Benckiser), which owns popular brand Dettol in the segment, has declined to comment on its efforts amid the coronavirus scare. Besides, the FMCG makers through their brands are also running special campaigns on digital and mainstream media, to create awareness and educate the public about the benefits of regular hands wash as prevention for coronavirus. Dabur, which is present in the hand sanitizers segment with its brand Fem Safe Handz, is running a series of awareness campaigns to educate the public about how to keep themselves safe from coronavirus. Some FMCG firms are also educating consumers by engaging their brands to communicate with the consumers, through special campaigns on digital and mainstream media, to make them aware about the benefits of regular hands wash as prevention for coronavirus. The companies have assured that they have enough stocks to tackle the situation. "We have ramped up our production capacity. We are also trying to ramp up through our vendors also," Godrej Consumer Products Ltd CEO (India and SAARC) Sunil Kataria told . However, he also added that hand santizers are premium products in India. "The way we have to address this problem is through that we all need to communicate the right education to the people and send messages to the consumers that best precaution and prevention from coronavirus is regularly washing hands," he added. GCPL, which had Godrej Protekt brand in the segment, has started a digital campaign to create awareness about it. ITC, which is present in the segment through its brand Savlon, said it is ensuring that there is an adequate supply of hygiene products in the market. Besides its innovative packaging, FeviKwik is appreciated for its fast action and usability over multiple surfaces. This versatility makes the brand irreplaceable. Can you name three alternatives to Fevikwik? Never mind, because even I can’t! FeviKwik has moved beyond being a simple product to becoming an integral part of everyday life. 2. Become a fable Amul butter was launched way back in the year 1955. Since then, Amul has become synonymous with butter in India. You go to any restaurant and order for a Pav-Bhaji. Chances are that the waiter would ask you “With Amul butter or with ordinary butter?” The brand Amul butter has achieved such a status that not only does it create product differentiation but can even get you a premium over ordinary butter! This not only restricted the market size but also consumption opportunities too! But Cadbury’s challenged this belief and innovated itself in two ways. First, it broke the myth that chocolate is meant for kids alone by positioning it as the ‘real taste of life’. This broke the age barrier. Second, it created new avenues for consumption by saying “kuch meetha ho jaye”. This multiplied the consumption avenues for Cadburys. Today, Cadbury’s is not only relished by the entire family but is also competing against traditional Mithai’s when it comes to gifting. Cadbury’s did not discover chocolate, but it innovated the occasions when chocolate can be consumed and widened the customer age group. It even introduced a lot of product innovations too. Bournville, Silk, Choclairs, Gems, and the list goes on. Infact, today Cadbury’s has reached such a stage where no matter what the age-group or the occasion, there is always a chocolate for you! So as long as you are allowed to eat chocolate (from the health perspective) or if you are celebrating an occasion, Cadbury’s will always top your wish list! 4. Extend your brand, but don’t dilute your identity India first started using Dettol as the main component of their first-aid kit. For many years Dettol was the only anti-septic liquid known to Indians. Sensing stagnation, Dettol decided to spread itself to other categories. But while doing so, it took care of not diluting its anti-septic identity. It first became an anti-septic soap, then a hand-wash, a floor-cleaner and now it is a general disinfectant that can be added to water to be used over any surface! Everything about Dettol is new, but its identity as an anti-septic has remained unchanged. Infact it has become stronger with every product category added. Now with multi-category presence and a stronger identity than ever, Dettol is on its way to Moksha! 5. Freshen up the message but don’t forget the messenger There was a time in India when you just had two means of communication – Mass Media (TV, print &amp; outdoor) and Point-of-Sale. But today, newer and more powerful options like digital media have emerged. Most brands focus on getting their digital inputs (SEO, Social Media presence etc.) right and ignore the fact that even media channels have their own important place in the process of communication. While their messages keep evolving with changing customer sensibilities, most brands still fail to unleash the full potential of the emerging new media channels. The belief that appealing message will work wonders was OK till the choice of media channels, the messenger, was limited. But the moment new messengers were added, new brands emerged out of nowhere and today are appealing the might of older established brands. Every messenger (channel) has its own requirement, e.g. Twitter takes just 280 characters, whereas YouTube can take a video of much longer length than conventional TV commercial. The better brands use these channels, the better connect thy can create with their customers thus going a step closer to Moksha. 6. Keep appealing to your customer’s eye There was a time when the world’s largest selling biscuit, Parle-G, sported a butter packaging and an infant on its pack. This visual identity has become so deeply entrenched with Indian consumers that most ‘me-too’ biscuit brands that were launched in the country sported a kid on their wrappers. Realising this shortcoming and to remain relevant to the times, Parle-G shifted to a plastic sheet wrapper and even replaced the kid with a caricature. However, apart from these two changes, the visual identity of Parle-G has remained unchanged by &amp; large. But, not changing with times is a liberty only legacy brands can afford! Today, remaining relevant to the sensibilities of the customers is a must for every brand. With evolving customer behaviour and thinking, brands too have to change. Earlier you could see the salt inside Tata Salt, today you don’t. Earlier Nirma was a simple semi-transparent pillow pack, but today it is a lot more colourful. Even some of the biscuit brands of Britannia keep on evolving their visual identity in order to remain relevant to the customer’s sensibilities. While the biscuit inside remains the same, the outer visual identity of the brand keeps evolving! 7. Be an active contributor to the society Besides helping you with your everyday life, brands aspire to emulate your personality. Eventually, brands want to become you. They want to appeal to your “Do-Good” spirit as they know that this is one hidden facet of your personality. For instance, a brand like the house of Tata spends a lot of resources, monetary or otherwise, on social activities which may not give it a direct benefit. But people remember and appreciate such philanthropic efforts made by brands that not only make their lives easier, but also that of the society at large too. They even show their appreciation by endorsing such brands. Even P&amp;G brands like Ariel make such attempts to give back to the society. Brands that think beyond achieving their own sales targets are not only remembered and consumed by the current generation, but are also appreciated by the next ones. If a brand was a person, normally it would die a natural death after some years of existence. But unlike us humans, brands don’t have a physical form and hence can theoretically become immortal. There are ways and means of achieving immortality or Moksha. The association of colour Red with danger is immortal and so is that of White with Peace. The report quoted sources s saying that the iPad production will begin in Vietnam as early as the middle of this year, marking the first time that the world's biggest tablet maker will build a significant number of the devices outside of China. "Apple and many other tech companies all want out-of-China production capacities, and that has not slowed even though the US has a new president," the report quoted one supply chain manager as saying. "And they are studying not only peripheral products. Apple, for example, aims to build capacity in new locations -- mostly Southeast Asia nations -- for multiple core products, such as iPhones, iPads, <keyword id="595771" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="MacBooks">MacBooks</keyword>, AirPods and others". Mac mini production has already been moved to Malaysia. New Delhi, <keyword id="44717" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Automobile">Automobile</keyword> major <keyword id="6365618" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki-india">Maruti Suzuki India</keyword> on Thursday reported a rise of 24.1% in its net profit for the quarter ended December 31, 2020, owing to higher sales and <keyword id="6741400" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Non-operating-income">non-operating income</keyword>. According to the automobile manufacturer, the net profit during the quarter under review rose to ₹1,941.4 crore from ₹1,564.8 crore during the corresponding period of previous fiscal. "During the quarter, the company registered net sales of ₹222,367 million, an increase of 13.2 per cent compared to the same period previous year," the company said in a statement. "The 'Operating Profit for the Quarter' was at ₹14,848 million, a growth of 19.3 per cent over the same period previous year on account of higher sales volume and cost reduction efforts partially offset by increase in commodity prices and adverse foreign exchange movement." Besides, the company sold a total of 495,897 vehicles during the quarter, higher by 13.4% compared to the same period previous year. "Sales in the domestic market stood at 467,369 units, growing by 13%. Exports were at 28,528 units, higher by 20.6 per cent." This is a minor change, but it rounds out the desktop feature and makes it more appealing to use, especially as people are on their computers more frequently while working from home. The photo-sharing platform started testing this new feature earlier this month. A spokesperson from Instagram, earlier this month, told Engadget that this feature is being tested and it has begun appearing to a "small group" of Instagram users. For the most part, Instagram has left Stories unchanged for years. The format is the same as always, with posts being ephemeral. Most of Instagram's changes to the format come in the form of creative tools, like stickers for small businesses and new fonts.
