The <keyword id="17605" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-and-kashmir">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword> Police have busted a <keyword id="735744" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="fake-job-racket">fake job racket</keyword> which was being operated through Facebook, police said on Friday. According to reports, the Cyber Police Station Kashmir Zone, Srinagar, received a written complaint from a woman hailing from Baramulla district of North Kashmir. In the complaint, the woman alleged that she was cheated by an unknown Facebook user operating multiple fake Facebook accounts and impersonating as a Project Officer of the ICDS on the pretext of providing a job to her. "On receipt of this complaint, case FIR No. 23/2020 under relevant sections of the law was registered in Cyber Police Station and investigation was set into motion. During the course of the investigation, the said unknown Facebook user was found operating more than 15 fake Facebook accounts (male and female). "He had fraudulently obtained a number of SIM cards from the victims which he was using to cheat and deceive the female victims, especially young and <keyword id="1390960" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="destitute-girls">destitute girls</keyword>. The accused by his vicious and wicked plans has grabbed lakhs of rupees from the victims on the pretext of providing them jobs," police said. Police said the modus operandi of the accused included the creation of fake Facebook accounts by using profile pictures of high profile dignitaries mostly associated with politics and the television industry and sending friend requests to the young girls. The girls, who were attracted by the profiles, would often chat with the accused, who used to impress them with his activities and promises of jobs, said the police. "He made them believe that he could help them in getting jobs and consequently coerced them to pay money. The accused also used to compel the young girls to share their objectionable photos and videos and then used the same for blackmailing. He would make the victims transfer money not into his personal account, but in the accounts of other victims who were cheated in the same manner and subsequently used to collect the amount by sending some other person(s) to avoid getting himself exposed," police said. Police said the accused used to frequently change his mobile phones and SIM cards and create new Facebook accounts in the name of senior government employees and convinced the victims that they too had been provided jobs by him. "During the course of the investigation and with strenuous efforts and rigorous analysis of his cyber signatures/footprints at different cyber platforms, the experts of the Cyber Police station Kashmir were able to trace and identify the accused. "He was identified as <keyword id="4140528" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="mohammad-hussain-mir">Mohammad Hussain Mir</keyword> alias Bitta Morray, a resident of KP Road Anantnag, a shopkeeper by profession. He has been arrested," police said. During further investigation the accused was found to have used various devices and had cheated more than 100 destitute and young girls belonging to Kashmir as well as Jammu Division who were in desperate need of government jobs. "During questioning the accused person admitted that he was inspired by a famous TV serial "Crime Patrol" and he learnt the modus operandi of social media crimes by watching the said serial. Further, one accomplice of the accused who used to provide fake SIM cards to him was also arrested. More arrests in the case are expected," police said. Jammu and Kashmir Police busts a fake job racket operated through Facebook

Shimla: As a child, <keyword id="23421532" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Pinki-Haryan" source="keywords">Pinki Haryan</keyword>, along with her parents, begged on the streets and scavenged for food in garbage dumps in Mcleodganj. Twenty years and a Chinese medical degree later, she is now burning the midnight oil to clear an exam that will make her eligible to practice medicine in India. It was in 2004 when Lobsang Jamyang, a Tibetan refugee monk and the director of Dharamshala-based charitable trust, spotted Haryan begging. Days later, he visited the slum cluster at Charan Khud and recognised the girl. Then began the uphill task of convincing her parents, especially her father Kashmiri Lal, to let her pursue education. After hours of persuasion, Lal agreed. Haryan got admission into the Dayanand Public School at Dharamshala and was among the first batch of students at a hostel for destitute children set up by the charitable trust in 2004. Ajay Srivastava, president of NGO Umang Foundation, who has been associated with Jamyang for the last 19 years, said initially, Haryan missed her home and parents but kept her focus on studies, which she realised was her ticket out of poverty. Soon enough, the results were proof of her dedication. She passed the senior secondary examination and also cleared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate). The NEET is an all-India entrance exam for admission to undergraduate medical courses, Srivastava said. However, the doors of private medical colleges remained shut for her due to the exorbitant fees. "As a child, I lived in a slum so my background was my biggest motivation. I wished for a good and financially stable life," she added. Sharing a childhood memory, Haryan recalled that during her school admission interview as a four-year-old, she expressed her ambition to become a doctor. "At that point in time, I had no idea what work a doctor does, but I always wanted to help my community," said Haryan who is preparing for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) to become eligible to practice medicine in India. Haryan, whose brother and sister have enrolled in a school after drawing inspiration from her, credited Jamyang for her "slum-dweller to doctor" success story. "He (Jamyang) had a vision to help destitute and poor children. He was the biggest support system I had while I was in school. His belief in me was a big inspiration to do well," she said, adding that there were several others like her who have made it big in life due to the support from the trust. Meanwhile, Jamyang said he had set up the trust in the hope of imparting basic education to destitute children so that they can lead a respectful life. "I did not realise that these children were so full of talent... They have become role models and are inspiring others," he said. Srivastava said Jamyang believes that children should not be treated as "machines to earn money". Instead, he says that they should be encouraged to become good human beings. "He has dedicated his entire life to the children living in slums. Several of them, who once languished in the streets, were adopted by him and have today become engineers, doctors, and journalists," Srivastava said.

Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden's attorney, said in the Independence County courthouse in Batesville that Biden had been paying $20,000 a month to support the youngster, Navy Joan, since a DNA test in 2019 confirmed he's the girl's biological father, the Post reported. Both Biden, 53, and Roberts, 32, were in the courtroom for the roughly two-hour hearing. During it, the judge ordered Biden to respond to written questions about his financial dealings, including investments, sales of his artwork, and other monetary transactions, CNN reported.The judge added that Biden would have to participate in a deposition in mid-June and answer questions under oath, the news outlet said. A trial to decide whether Biden's child-support payments can be decreased is set to take place in July, CNN reported. The FARC's pledge to withdraw from criminal activities, like drug cultivation, raises the risk of turf wars between other criminal groups.The possibility of a power vacuum in the criminal underworld has already led to clashes between Colombia's largest criminal groups, among them Los Urabeños, a multinational gang with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/the-sinaloa-cartel-and-colombian-cocaine-2015-8" target="_blank">ties to Mexico's vaunted Sinaloa cartel</a>. One of the world's longest wars is on the verge of ending

These harrowing vignettes of North Korean hunger and suffering were later published in South Korea under a pseudonym.
Mr Jang had once composed paeans to Kim Jong Il, North Korea's former ruler. In a new memoir, Mr Jang retraces his conversion from patriotic court poet to the Kim regime to one of its fiercest critics; from a privileged life within Pyongyang's elite as one of Kim's "Admitted" to being a destitute fugitive, on the run from North Korean agents in China, where he sought asylum in the South Korean embassy in Beijing.
If his personal poems laid bare how the Kims gained power through cruelty and repression, Mr Jang's latest account exposes the reach of their cultural dictatorship, which put literature and history at the service of an extraordinary and lasting personality cult.
Mr Jang was employed in North Korea as a poet in the United Front Department, an important party unit involved in organising psychological warfare against Koreans of all stripes. This made him familiar with its propaganda machinery. In the 1980s its literary output was directed at South Korean democracy movements, then resisting their own military dictator, in the hope of kindling pro-North sympathies in the South. By the 1990s the unit had turned inward, but still used many of the same South Korean tropes and idioms. Its authors pretended to be Southerners praising Kim Jong Il. To help him prepare, Mr Jang was given access to prohibited South Korean newspapers, television and books.
A paper shortage after the economy collapsed in the early 1990s led novels, a form that had been popular under Kim's father, Kim Il Sung, to be replaced by epic poems. One of these, "Spring Rests on the Gun Barrel of the Lord", composed in 1999, earned Mr Jang a rare meeting with Kim. He was admitted to an inner circle of six court poets and given immunity from prosecution.
North Korea's leading propaganda poets were rewarded with imported cars and large flats. Officials, desperate to prove their loyalty to the Kim cult, vied for honours. But a chance encounter with Byron's poetry (among works that were limited to a secret print run of 100 copies in North Korea) proved a delicious deviation from the strictures of Kim's "Juche Art Theory", a set of linguistic expressions to which all North Korean works must adhere.
As a state historian, Mr Jang was allowed to read banned portions of the country's unvarnished history, the better to distort it. The more he read, the more he recognised how Kim had wrested power from his father. The swelling of the Kim Il Sung cult, which his son set in motion, legitimised Kim's rule while justifying a shift of power away from his father. Under the pretext of lightening the Supreme Leader's load, all proposals were routed through the party's revamped Organisation and Guidance Department (OGD), headed by Kim. Eventually, only those that were deemed important were passed up to his father. Kim transferred the power to appoint and dismiss personnel to the OGD. Political enemies were watched and then purged.
Kim's hereditary succession was not guaranteed at the start. Mr Jang offers considerable detail about how he set out to usurp his father, revealing the factional infighting and what he calls the "subterfuge and machinations" that pitted son against father; even Kim Il Sung's own bodyguards came under OGD control. The dual structure of the Kim Il Sung cult, with the young Kim the real power behind the throne, allowed the son to confound outsiders. Foreigners scrutinised the seven pallbearers at Kim Jong Il's funeral in 2011, but none held real power, Mr Jang says.
"Dear Leader", which includes three personal poems, is a testament to Mr Jang's literary flair. He chooses poetry to express painful episodes, whether the hunger of a young girl or the public execution of a farmer in his home town. He paints a bleak portrait of his village, to which he briefly returns to discover a swarm of wasted bodies "waiting for death", a childhood friend eating rice by the grain and tap water for sale. Desolation creeps even into better-off Pyongyang: a mother, close to death, and her daughter stand in a marketplace; a sign hangs from the girl's neck: "I sell my daughter for 100 won ($0.11)".
The contrast with China's bright cities, to which Mr Jang first escapes, could not be starker. He marvels at the "boldness of mankind in defying nature's darkness"; at advertising hoardings more impressive than the Kim iconography. Yet, there too, he is hounded by North Korean and Chinese officials. He meets North Korean women who have fled both their country and their Chinese captors. Theirs are chilling tales of human trafficking. Graded and priced like pigs, many spend their lives "rotting", shackled at night so they cannot escape. They also show great courage.
Mr Jang makes no claim to speak from within Kim Jong Il's closest circle. But as a poet laureate, on the inside of the Kims' mythmaking machine, he sheds new light both on the dynasty's ideological underpinnings and on what he calls "the tantrums of a defeated man".
