Condom maker Mankind Pharma’s ₹4,326 crore IPO to open next week on April 25

Investors made a profit of ₹120 per share and ₹5,400 on one allotment of the IPO. The market capitalisation of the company stands at ₹4,096 crore, according to BSE data. Despite some weakness in the market, analysts had predicted a strong listing for the company’s shares due to its strong fundamentals and hefty grey market premium. “We believe that the company may surprise the markets and might make a grand debut to list above its grey market premium. The company’s strong fundamentals, competitive advantages like high entry barriers and switching costs, experienced management team, and robust growth outlook explains the healthy GMP. Further, the company is a proxy play on India becoming the global manufacturing hub,” said Aayush Agrawal, senior research analyst at Swastika Investmart. The IPO was subscribed a whopping 74.70 times amidst volatile market conditions. Qualified institutional investors’ subscription was 178 times the IPO offer, while the retail portion of the IPO saw a subscription of 17.63 times the offer. Money raised through the IPO will be used for debt repayment, funding capital expenditure, purchase of machinery, infrastructure repairs, renovation of the existing production facilities and general corporate purposes. The company’s business comprises two segments – engineering business and solar EPC business. Its engineering business manufactures bearing cages in brass, steel and polyamide materials; complex and specialised precision stamped components; welded assemblies and brass castings, among others. The Sensex closed 1.6% lower at 57,145 levels while the Nifty50, which had slipped a tad below the 17,000 level earlier in the day, ended 1.8% lower at 17,016. Analysts feel the Nifty50 may again go below 17,000 levels if global weakness persists – leading to a sell off by foreign investors. "Market fall has more to do with the global weakness, so, as long as global markets continue to fall, we will also fall because that creates a sentimental pressure on the FPIs (foreign portfolio investors) who come to sell in India. So, while the RBI event is among the reasons for the fall, I think at these prices, it may be discounted. If global cues remain weak Nifty50 may go below 17,000 points," Deepak Jasani, head of retail research at HDFC Securities, said. In the last five days, the Sensex has already lost 4.4% because of weak global cues led by the US Fed signaling aggressive interest rate hikes in the future. It is also widely expected that the RBI would follow the Fed’s lead and raise interest rates on September 30. RBI has already raised interest rates by an overall 140 basis points three times in a row. “Global cues are expected to dominate this week as well, but RBI policy and September F&amp;O expiry will lead to volatility in our market. US GDP and unemployment numbers will be important. If we look at F&amp;O data, the short exposure of FIIs in the index future has jumped to 80%, which means sentiments are weak but the market is hedged,” Santosh Meena, head of research at Swastika Investmart said. Adding to the woes, the rupee continues to depreciate as it touched 81.67 on Monday on the back of monetary policy tightening by central banks and on concerns about India’s record trade deficit. It is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/finance/news/rupee-likely-to-touch-82-against-the-greenback/articleshow/94399853.cms">expected to touch 82 levels</a>. “We expect volatility to remain high as we have important events like MPC’s monetary policy review meet and monthly derivatives expiry scheduled during the week. Besides, the prevailing pressure in the global indices would continue to weigh on the sentiment. It seems like markets are finally giving in to the pressure of global indices, especially the US, and are likely to inch further lower ahead,” Ajit Mishra, VP - research at Religare Broking said. Auto, bank and metal indices were the biggest laggards, ending down 3.8%, 2.4% and 4.1% respectively, on Monday. Sensex, Nifty50 close nearly 2% down tracking global markets and ahead of RBI rate hike decision

Benchmark index Sensex closed 37 points lower at 57,107 while the Nifty50 lost 8.90 points to reach 17,007. “The benchmark indices witnessed a volatile trading session…Among Sectors, profit booking continued in metal and financial stocks, both indices registered profit booking at higher levels. whereas, some buying was seen in selective pharma and IT stocks. Technically, after a sharp fall, the index opened in the green but corrected sharply. After early morning sell-off, the index witnessed range bound activity,” Shrikant Chouhan, head of equity research (retail) at Kotak Securities said. The markets are expected to remain volatile the entire week amid fears of global recession and continuing inflation and ahead of RBI policy announcement on September 30. It is also widely expected that the RBI would follow the Fed’s lead and raise interest rates on Friday. RBI has already raised interest rates by an overall 140 basis points three times in a row. In the morning trade, Sensex opened 0.74%, or 440 points, higher at 57,579 while the Nifty50 gained 0.72%, or 125 points, to hit 17,142, tracking global markets. On Tuesday, the rupee was trading at 81.57 against the dollar. A day earlier, the rupee had touched a new low of 81.73 due to monetary policy tightening by central banks worldwide and on concerns about India’s record trade deficit. Markets end flat; Nifty50 closes a tad above 17,000 points in a choppy session

<ul><li>Pharmacy retail chain Medplus Health Services is looking to raise ₹1,639 crore through IPO.</li><li>The company offers both offline and online sales of pharmaceutical products through website and mobile application.</li><li>Azim Premji’s PI Opportunities Fund is among the promoters of the company selling its shares through the IPO.</li></ul>Hyderabad-based pharmacy retail chain Medplus Health Services’ ₹1,398 crore initial public offering (IPO) is all set to open today, December 13, and close on December 15. The IPO consists of a fresh issue of ₹600 crore worth of shares and an offer for sale of shares worth ₹798.29 crore by selling shareholders. 18 shareholders will be selling shares in the IPO including PI Opportunities fund, which is an affiliate of PremjiInvest. PremjiInvest is the family office of billionaire Azim Premji, founder chairman of Wipro. The company is India's second-largest pharmacy retailer in terms of the number of stores and revenue. It sells a wide range of products, including pharmaceutical and wellness products -- medicines, vitamins, medical devices and test kits, and fast-moving consumer goods -- home and personal care products, toiletries, baby care products, soaps and detergents, and sanitisers. The company has over 2,000 stores distributed across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, West Bengal and Maharashtra. This is Shriram Properties’ second attempt to hit the public market. It had filed its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) with the Securities and Exchange Board Of India (SEBI) in 2018, but later deferred the plans due to sluggish property market. However, some stock brokerages don’t seem to be too excited about this public issue even now. Saurabh Joshi and Kaushal Thakkar of Marwadi Financial Services have suggested retail investors stay away from the offering as it is “expensive as compared to its peers.” The company has completed 29 projects, representing 16.76 million square feet of saleable areas, as of September 30 of this year. “We are constructive on the company's long term growth prospects given the current positive industry growth trends and Shriram's strong brand presence and execution track record. However, improvement in financials would remain a key monitorable for the company," said analysts at Reliagare Broking. Endowment bodies are private entities and never had to reveal their wealth, few can guess the extent of cash and gold holdings. Apart from a few details that have become public, very few have ventured to estimate temple wealth. In 2016, the World Gold Council estimated that the gold lying in Indian<a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/current-affairs/temples-hold-about-4-000-tonnes-of-gold-116032400306_1.html"> temples could be as high as 4,000 tonnes</a> — that’s over a fifth of the total gold holdings of the country. Cash, stocks or bonds? The cash that temples receive from Hundis remains enormous. Temples are known to employ large teams to sort and count them and some have even fashioned giant sieves that can sift coins. As the number of financial instruments increase, temple trusts too have expanded their ‘accounts’ to easily receive all sorts of donations. In 2015, Lord Balaji opened his own demat account to receive stocks and bonds. Following Him, are many temple trusts including Vaishno Devi temple, Swaminarayan Temple of Ahmedabad, Srinathji Temple of Nathdwara, Iskon Charities, Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga in Ujjain, to name a few. In addition to easing the process of ‘offerings’ in an increasingly cash-free society, this move also helps people turn Gods into their business partners with a small stake. Like in the case of gold, no information is proffered on how much stock trusts hold and if they are traded. What’s the wealth going to do? Legend has it that all that goes into Lord Balaji’s Hundi is used to pay off the interest for a loan that he took from Kubera, the God of wealth, and this payoff will continue till the end of Kali Yug. In reality, it’s the trustees who decide what is to be done with the wealth. And, what do temples do with the wealth? It takes a lot to maintain a temple. Large temples employ a range of staff – be it priests, security guards, cleaning staff and accountants, some temples even have a large administrative staff to manage the finances and more. Moreover, temples hold large events like Navratri festivals, pujas or annual processions like rath yatras. All in all – trusts also contribute towards welfare activities. The temples also reserve some of its wealth for a rainy day. The temple and the state Temple priests, seers and Kings always maintained a healthy mutual relationship – some of the former also adorned the courts and were trusted advisors. Tensions however emerged after monarchy and the battle lines were drawn between the church and the state. The first clash occurred in the early 1800s when the East India Company (EIC) demanded a tribute from the Queen of Travancore – the royal family which is now the trustee of Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple. As she failed to provide ‘protection money’, the company took over the temple trusts in the region. This passed onto the British crown who later drafted a Madras Religious and Charitable Endowment Act, which later became the The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act – that controls a few hundreds of thousands of temple trusts, mutts and endowments. It is to be noted that the Madras Presidency covered large parts of Tamil Nadu in addition to Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and even Kerala — till date, a few hundreds of thousands of temples are directly under government control. In fact, some of the richest trusts including Tirupati, Meenakshi temple of Madurai, Shirdi Sai Baba temple and Siddhi Vinayak <a href="https://asiaconverge.com/2020/09/indian-governments-outdid-aurangzeb-they-emasculated-hindu-temples/">fall under the government control</a>. IAS officers act <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/india/shirdi-saibaba-trust-ias-official-4560862/">as temple trustees in many temples</a> across states like Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, which appointed an IAS officer to the <a href="https://theprint.in/india/nripendra-misra-modis-trusted-former-ias-officer-will-head-ram-temple-construction-panel/368134/">Ayodhya’s Ram temple trust</a>. The trust with the government There have been multiple attempts to bring more trusts under the government’s purview and a few of them have been resisting in multiple ways. The most high profile case has been that of <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/pti-stories/nataraja-temple-to-be-managed-by-priest-not-by-tamil-nadu-govt-114010600610_1.html">Nataraja Temple at Chidambaram Trust and the state government</a> of Tamil Nadu where the court ruled in favour of the trust. The pre-Chola temple where the statue of Shiva itself remains elusive – known as the ‘secret’ – had resisted the state government attempt to take over the trust. A similar attempt at a takeover of the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple trust temple, with treasures that are worth hundreds of billions, by the state government — <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/india/supreme-court-sets-aside-kerala-hc-order-on-government-takeover-of-padmanabhaswamy-temple-5540371.html">was stalled by the Apex court</a>. Yet another case involves the <a href="https://www.barandbench.com/news/litigation/vaishno-devi-shrine-board-funds-were-used-for-iftaar-parties">Vaishno Devi temple, </a>where a petition was filed challenging the government control of the shrine. The Karnataka government however wants to do away <a href="https://www.timesnownews.com/india/karnataka-to-do-away-with-government-control-over-temples-says-cm-bommai-in-budget-speech-article-89990133">with its control over temple trusts</a>, said the chief minister Basavaraj Bommai in March this year. If they do so, they would create a precedent where more endowments would seek autonomy – leaving one of India’s high-profile asset owners with more control of their vaults and all that therein.

The grey market premium of the fund house’s IPO is 10% higher at ₹70 per share from its price band of ₹695-712. The mutual fund company is looking to raise ₹2,768 crore through sale of 3.88 crore shares. Meanwhile, analysts feel that there is little room for the stock to rise in the near term.
