The programme, named "<keyword id="13699950" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Step-Ahead" source="Orion">Step-Ahead</keyword>" is aimed at giving an opportunity to those executives who want to move from their current flexible engagement with Swiggy to a dedicated, managerial role, the company said. "Swiggy has consistently maintained that our delivery executives are the backbone of our operations; and we are proud to enable an income opportunity for over 2.7 lakh women and men across the country," said Mihir Rajesh Shah, VP, Operations, Swiggy, in a statement. "While most may consider their association with the platform as a stop gap between jobs or an education, or even an additional source of income, we realise that there are some who want more. With aStep Ahead', Swiggy is creating a unique opportunity for those interested to flip their collar from blue to white and take on a managerial role," he added. To be eligible for the role of a Fleet Manager, a Swiggy delivery executive must hold a college degree, possess communication skills and basic computer knowledge and should have been delivering with Swiggy for a few years. Managing a fleet of delivery executives, the fleet managers, will be responsible for different roles like maintaining metrics like login hours, cancellations, resolving queries, and working on special projects for delivery executives. Food delivery app Swiggy partners with Khan Academy to give free learning courses to gig workers

More and more women in metro cities are applying for unconventional jobs like cab driver, security guard and delivery executives, thanks to attractive pay and demand and supply gap, says a report. 
 

	"We see a rise in preference, by both end customers as well as job seekers, for women in unconventional jobs or those sectors which were traditionally considered male dominated areas, especially in big cities," Babajob Co-founder and COO Vir Kashyap told PTI here. 
 

	The rising trend of Indian women opting for unconventional careers in the informal and semi-skilled sectors is also due to demand and supply mis-match and higher salary, he added. 
 

	According to the data compiled from actual applications on Babajob.com platform in 2015-16, there has been seven times more demand from employers for female cab drivers and 153 per cent increase in applications for the women driver jobs. 
 

	"This trend is a fairly recent phenomenon and the increase of women applying for unconventional jobs is higher in MUMBAI , compared to other metro cities," Kashyap said. 
 

	Babajob is India's livelihood marketplace, facilitating blue collar jobs in the country and at present, it has over six million registered job seekers and over 3,25,000 employers. 
 

	The data also revealed that there has been five times increase in job opportunities for women delivery executives and 114 per cent rise in applications by women. 
 

	Women are offered more money in categories such as sales and data entry, it said. 
 

	With an average salary of Rs 10,981.44 per month, jobs of delivery executives saw an increase of 2.57 per cent for women over men, it added. 
 

	Similarly, sales executive segment, that offers an average salary of Rs 12,809.03 per month, has witnessed 6.55 per cent increase in pay for women candidates, the survey pointed out. 
 

	In data entry, women are getting offers of 3.24 per cent more pay than the average salary of Rs 8,878.28 per month. 
 

	The report also revealed that the security guard category has seen 25 per cent increase in job opportunities, while 125 per cent rise in job application by women candidates.

However, for a Delhi resident, ordering a <keyword id="21592794" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gold-coin" source="keywords">gold coin</keyword> on Blinkit didn't go as expected. <keyword id="21245638" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mohit-jain" source="keywords">Mohit Jain</keyword>, hailing from Delhi, recently shared his dissatisfaction after allegedly receiving the wrong item. According to a post on X, Jain claims he ordered a 1-gram gold coin along with a 10-gram silver coin on Blinkit, only to discover a 0.5-gram gold coin in the package instead. According to Jain, the order was prepaid, and he wasn’t home at the time of delivery, so he had his younger brother handle the transaction. After providing his brother with the necessary OTP, Jain was confident everything was okay. However, upon returning home 20 minutes later, he was dismayed to find the wrong coin in the delivery—an issue that only grew as he tried to resolve it. In a detailed post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Jain explained how he ordered 1 gm gold coin, but what he received was a 0.5 gm <keyword id="20650343" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Malabar-Gold" source="keywords">Malabar Gold</keyword> coin with a rose design instead. Jain added that he reached out to the delivery agent and "almost cried". "I ordered 1 gm gold coin from blinkit, along with the 1gm silver coin. It was all prepaid. I wasn't there at home to receive the order, so I gave the otp to my younger brother to get it received. After 20 mins I reached home and saw wrong item was delivered I. I got 0.5gm Malabar gold coin (rose design). What I ordered was 1 gm Mata lakshmi gold coin," he wrote. Jain’s struggle didn’t end with the delivery mix-up. By the time he tried to address the issue, the 20-minute return window for the product had expired. Attempts to get in touch with Blinkit’s customer support proved equally frustrating. Jain shared screenshots of his conversation with Blinkit’s customer service team, where the automated response informed him that the return window had closed and suggested only that he “provide feedback to help improve services.” He added, "I couldn't contact any support executive. I called the delivery executive and literally cried while talking to him. He has the photos of coin before the delivery but he said that he can't do anything even after knowing that he delivered the wrong item. I do have CCTV footages too of getting wrong item delivered. Also It was the first and last time of me ordering something so expensive from blinkit as their customer support is pathetic, have to chat with AI bots." In an attempt to back up his claim, Jain also reviewed CCTV footage from his home that showed the delivery of the incorrect item. He posted images of both the 0.5-gram coin he received and the screenshot of his original order, which clearly displayed the request for a 1-gram coin featuring <keyword id="20375971" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="goddess-lakshmi" source="keywords">Goddess Lakshmi</keyword>. His tweet quickly gained traction, capturing the attention of other Blinkit users and sparking discussions about the platform’s handling of high-value items.

'I was scammed, cried while talking to delivery executive': Man orders gold coin from Blinkit, claims to receive wrong item

E-commerce major <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> has pledged to give delivery workers leave with full pay and benefits if they contract COVID-19 or are placed under quarantine. Flipkart said it has made temperature screening using infra-red thermometers mandatory for all employees, vendors and visitors. Persons with suspected flu symptoms are advised to return home. "For our supply chain and logistics network, we have organised more than 3,000 awareness sessions covering over 100k employees across all our facilities on how our employees and partners can minimize their exposure by following simple precautionary measures," Amitesh Jha, Senior Vice President - eKart &amp; Marketplace at Flipkart, said in a blog post on Wednesday. The delivery executives of the e-commerce major are covered with both life and medical insurance, Jha informed. Online retail giant Amazon this week announced that it plans to hire 1 lakh employees in the US in its fulfilment centres and delivery network as more and more people are relying on online deliveries for their daily needs due to the coronavirus pandemic. Flipkart also said that it has seen "overwhelming demand for essential products". "We appreciate the dedication and customer-first approach of our supply chain executives, wishmasters and delivery partners during this challenging time. They have reiterated their commitment to serving customers and overcoming many challenges to meet the overwhelming demand for essential products," Jha said. "The onus is on e-commerce to rise to the demands of the occasion, and we are sparing no effort to ensure that we meet our customers' needs," he said, adding that Flipkart is taking all preventive measures as advised by the World Health Organization. Seeking cooperation from customers in fighting the spread of coronavirus in India, Flipkart requested them to use digital payment gateways for all cash-on-delivery shipments. Flipkart said it is working on making additional delivery options such as contactless delivery available to customers in select locations. "Customers also have the option of requesting the delivery partner to leave their packages at the security booth of their residential complexes in line with their complex's guidelines (in case of online payments)," Jha said.

In the hilly city of Shimla, Swiggy executives deliver food on foot. In Guntur of Andhra Pradesh, the app received more than 2,500 orders on the first day of its launch. As it expands to cities beyond Tier 1, Swiggy is also saw that a number of its delivery executives are moving back to their hometowns, to work. Swiggy became one of India’s fastest unicorn in June last year, getting the prime status within four years of operations. (Eds: Recasting overnight story) New Delhi, May 5 () From laptops to apparels, people are logging on to e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Paytm Mall and Snapdeal to place orders for non-essential items, but lack of adequate manpower amid the lockdown could delay deliveries, as per industry executives. E-commerce companies have been permitted to sell all items in orange and green zones starting from Monday, the first day of the third phase of the nationwide lockdown that began on March 25. Depending on the number of cases of coronavirus infections, areas have been divided into red, orange and green zones. In the red zones, which include Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad, the companies can ship only essential items like grocery, medicines and healthcare products. However, shortage of staff at warehouses and logistics hubs could result in delays in deliveries of items, as per the executives. An Amazon India spokesperson said the company saw demand for various kinds of smart devices, products related to electrical appliances, clothes and work from home enablers, among others on the first day after delivery of non-essentials resumed in orange and green zones. "Our consumers in orange/ green zones are buying other priority products that they needed the most. Thousands of sellers have received orders for the first time since the lockdown began in March and we are hopeful that this will help jumpstart the livelihood of many small sellers and their workforce," the spokesperson said. The company reiterated its demand that the list of priority products be expanded for customers in the red zone as well in order to revive economic activity while serving urgent needs and ensuring citizen safety in a high-risk area. Under the first and second phase of the nationwide lockdown between March 25 and May 3, the government only allowed delivery of essential goods, including grocery, pharmaceuticals and healthcare products, through e-commerce platforms. A Snapdeal spokesperson said the company expects 80-90 per cent of its sellers in the orange and green zones to become active over the course of this week. On an average, deliveries are being promised within 6-10 days and actual deliveries are likely to be completed in lesser number of days, the spokesperson added. "Thousands of our sellers received orders for non-essential products on Day 1... We have started picking up orders from sellers in Salem, Amritsar, Gurugram and Guwahati, amongst many other locations. "Some of the products supplied by our sellers today include steel utensils, apparel, footwear, notebooks and pens, and electronics like power banks, phone and laptop chargers," the spokesperson said. Paytm Mall Vice President Srinivas Mothey noted that consumer electronics, laptops, mobile phones, home, and fashion products were among the few categories that were doing extremely well on its platform. "...We believe this trend would continue for the next couple of days. As we have noticed earlier people are ordering the most for work and study from home essentials. Depending on the type of product we are offering delivery timelines between two to five days," he added. However, industry executive also pointed out that companies are facing challenges on a few fronts. An executive, who did not wish to be named, said lesser manpower at warehouses and those available as delivery staff could result in delivery timelines getting delayed. The companies could look at sharing delivery resources from other digital business like online food delivery to shorten delays, the executive noted. A senior industry executive said apart from the guidelines issued by the centre, there are rules specified by states and even districts. Given that the classification of red, orange and green zones is in a dynamic state, it could make operations difficult for online commerce platforms, the executive said. New Delhi, May 4 () From laptops to apparels, people logged on to e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Paytm Mall and Snapdeal on Monday to place orders for non-essential items but lack of adequate manpower amid the lockdown could delay deliveries, according to industry executives. E-commerce companies have been permitted to sell all items in Orange and Green Zones starting from Monday, the first day of the third phase of the nationwide lockdown that began on March 25. Depending on the number of cases of coronavirus infections, areas have been divided into Red, Orange and Green Zones. In the Red Zones, which include Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad, the companies can ship only essential items like grocery, medicines and healthcare products. However, shortage of staff at warehouses and for logistics could result in delays in deliveries of items, as per the executives. An Amazon India spokesperson said the company saw demand for various kinds of smart devices, products related to electrical appliances, clothes and work from home enablers, among others. "Our consumers in Orange/ Green zones are buying other priority products that they needed the most. Thousands of sellers have received orders for the first time since the lockdown began in March and we are hopeful that this will help jumpstart the livelihood of many small sellers and their workforce," the spokesperson said. The company reiterated its demand that the list of priority products be expanded for customers in the Red Zone as well in order to revive economic activity while serving urgent needs and ensuring citizen safety in a high-risk area. Under the first and second phase of the nationwide lockdown between March 25 and May 3, the government only allowed delivery of essential goods, including grocery, pharmaceuticals and healthcare products, through e-commerce platforms. A Snapdeal spokesperson said the company expects 80-90 per cent of its sellers in the Orange and Green Zones to become active over the course of this week. On an average, deliveries are being promised within 6-10 days and actual deliveries are likely to be completed in lesser number of days, the spokesperson added. "Thousands of our sellers received orders for non-essential products on Day 1... we have started picking up orders from sellers in Salem, Amritsar, Gurugram and Guwahati, amongst many other locations. "Some of the products supplied by our sellers today include steel utensils, apparel, footwear, notebooks and pens, and electronics like power banks, phone and laptop chargers," the spokesperson said. Paytm Mall Vice President Srinivas Mothey said consumer electronics, laptops, mobile phones, home, and fashion products are among the few categories that are doing extremely well on its platform. "... we believe this trend would continue for the next couple of days. As we have noticed earlier people are ordering the most for work and study from home essentials. Depending on the type of product we are offering delivery timelines between two to five days," he added. However, e-commerce companies are also facing challenges on a few fronts. An industry executive, who did not wish to be named, said lesser manpower at warehouses and those available as delivery staff could result in delivery timelines getting delayed.
