LIC, Delhivery, Kfin Tech among IPO duds of FY23

Delhivery’s shares listed at ₹493, higher by just 1.23%, while the price band was fixed at ₹462 - ₹487 per share. Shares of the Gurugram-based logistics and supply chain company Delhivery made a tepid listing mainly due to weak market sentiment and poor financials of the company. The IPO had struggled too as only 24% of the issue was subscribed in the first two days of subscription. The lack of demand was due to volatile market conditions that spooked investors. On the last day, the issue was subscribed 163% mainly because of oversubscription in the qualified institutional buyer category. A tepid listing of Delhivery was much expected by analysts The unofficial grey market indicated a negative listing for the stock as they were being traded at ₹10 discount to issue price of ₹487. Delhivery makes a tepid debut on exchanges as it rises 1% on listing day

Delhivery’s public issue, which aims at mopping up INR 5,235 crore from the market, includes ₹4,000 crore worth fresh equity shares and ₹1,235 crore via sale of shares by existing investors via the offer for sale (OFS) route. Shareholders like Carlyle, Japanese Softbank, Fosun group-owned China Momentum Fund and Times Internet will sell some of their shares in the IPO. Delhivery provides a full range of logistics services, including express parcel delivery, heavy goods delivery, PTL freight, TL freight, warehousing, supply chain solutions, and cross-border services, among others. Delhivery is raising funds to fuel its future growth The company has proposed to use the net proceeds from the IPO to fund its acquisitions and expansion plans, with an eye on future growth. In August 2021, Delhivery had acquired Spoton to scale their PTL freight services business. The company’s express parcel delivery network services 17,500 pincodes, covering 90.6% of the total 19,300 pincodes in India. Delhivery IPO or not? However, despite meaningful growth in its service offerings and revenue, Delhivery is still incurring losses. This is one of the reasons some analysts have recommended investors to skip the IPO. Analysts at BP Equities suggest investors avoid the IPO, saying that it is similar to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/zomato-policybazaar-nykaa-and-paytm-shares-witness-sharp-corrections/articleshow/91365062.cms">new age firms like Zomato, PayTM </a>which have disappointed investors and wiped out a considerable portion of their investments. At the upper end of the price band, the issue is aggressively priced, says a report by BP Equities. “Despite an improvement in the topline, the company continues to make losses. As we are witnessing the negative market sentiment towards the similar category stocks (Zomato, PayTM), we suggest investors to “Avoid” this issue,” added the report. It has reported good revenue growth of 82% in nine months of FY2022 and it is expected that company may turn EBITDA positive by FY2022 end. Given the expensive valuation, we are assigning a NEUTRAL recommendation to the Delhivery IPO,” said a report by brokerage Angel One. Delhivery delivers parcels to over 90% of India, but will its IPO deliver returns to its investors? Here’s what the analysts are saying

Ahead of its initial public offering (IPO) this year, supply chain services provider <keyword id="1560090" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhivery">Delhivery</keyword> has reportedly raised $277 million in its latest round of funding, taking its market valuation to nearly $3 billion. According to a TechCrunch report, Delhivery disclosed the finding in its latest regulatory filing that has been led by US-headquartered investment firm <keyword id="6405604" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="fidelity">Fidelity</keyword>. Other investors reportedly are "Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC, Abu Dhabi's Chimera and UK's <keyword id="2649768" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Baillie-Gifford">Baillie Gifford</keyword>". When contacted, Delhivery refused to comment on the funding at the moment. Delhivery, a leading fulfillment platform for digital commerce, has raised about $1.23 billion to date. Earlier this year, Delhivery announced to expand its footprint by opening two new tech offices in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, that will take its workforce strength to more than 500 employees in the country. Delhivery, in its press conference held on May 5, noted that existing shareholders in the company believed the valuation was attractive and wanted to be a part of the company for a bit longer. Meanwhile, the company realized that it only needed ₹4,000 crore in order to fund its acquisitions and expansion plans. However, experts believe there was no other way around this. Yash Gupta, equity research analyst at AngelOne, told Business Insider that Delhivery and its shareholders made the right call as the ongoing ₹21,000 crore <keyword id="7922409" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lic-ipo" source="Orion">LIC IPO</keyword> would eat into the liquidity of the investors. Besides, it would also increase the cash reserve ratio (CRR) required by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the central bank of India. “It will be difficult to predict the scenarios [if Delhivery went ahead with ₹7,460 crore IPO] but as the IPO size increases we have seen that it becomes difficult for the companies to get subscriptions and liquidity in the market will be more after listing. So we believe that it is a good decision by the company to decrease the overall issue size,” Gupta added. The company now plans to raise ₹4,000 crore through fresh issue and ₹1,235 crore as an offer for sale (OFS). The capital raised in a fresh issue is directly raised by the company, whereas the amount raised by offer for sale (OFS) goes to the shareholders selling their shares in the company. recently listed entities, analysts see more pain in the coming months. Since some of the companies that went public are yet to make profits, their earnings in the next few months might disappoint the markets and investors, even further. “FIIs, DIIs are uncertain about the earnings of IPO bound or other unlisted companies due to various macro factors playing out. Earnings in the upcoming quarters will be the turning point for market conditions for IPO and markets in general,” said Manoj Dalmia, founder and director at Proficient equities Private. The newly listed companies like LIC, Delhivery and Veranda Learning Solutions have depressed investor sentiment even further as they reported their March quarter earnings. LIC’s net profit fell 17% to ₹2,409 crore in the March quarter. Delhivery and Veranda Learning Solutions too reported losses of ₹119 crore and ₹20 crore respectively. Again, Adani Wilmar was an exception. Its profit surged <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/corporates/news/adani-wilmar-revenue-rockets-fuelled-by-boiling-edible-oil-prices/articleshow/91260794.cms">40% during the March quarter </a> due to the rise in edible oil prices, as an after-effect of the Russia-Ukraine war. But this very news might be bad for most other companies across the sector – which means fewer funds, inflated raw material prices and more. “The markets are slightly weak due to increasing inflation, global uncertainty of rate hikes, and war between Russia and Ukraine. Even VC fundings have narrowed in startups and already layoffs are being seen in gaming and education sectors,” added Dalmia. The fund crunch is also affecting the valuations of companies with good fundamentals; but those IPOs which were priced high will continue to face even more pain once earnings are announced. Yet, there is one silver lining that the global economy itself might improve for the better and bring back foreign funds and domestic sentiment which can improve the outlook of these stocks for the better. “My sense is things from here on should improve as there is still domestic capital to be deployed and hopefully FIIs also at some point will do reallocation and come back in the market,” said Neha Khanna, director at ValPro. As per reports, if the Delhi-based logistics company raises funds, the valuation could touch nearly $700 million, or Rs 4,700 crore. 
 
"Carlyle is leading the funding round and Fosun is also in talks to participate in the transaction,” ET quoted a person as saying. 
 This will be the fifth round of funding. Earlier, <keyword id="1560090" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhivery">Delhivery</keyword> has raised $85 million led by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tiger+Global+Management&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Tiger Global Management</a> in May 2015. 
 "We are a profitable company and this will reflect in our results for the fiscal 2018. We are on track to hit $120 million in revenues for FY 2016-17, which is an 80% growth over last year. We should deliver close to 75-80 million parcels during this period,” Delhivery CEO <keyword id="2257501" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sahil-Barua">Sahil Barua</keyword> had told ET. 
 
Delhivery had registered a revenue of Rs 524 crore in fiscal 2016 with losses mounting to Rs 317 crore, according to data aggregation service Tofler. The company had a revenue of Rs 228 crore and a loss of Rs 71 crore in fiscal 2015.

The latest round of funding takes Delhivery’s valuation to $1.6 billion. Last week, the company and its investors made headlines after SoftBank received the approval from Competition Commission of India to take hold of 22.4% stake in Delhivery. Other investors in the round include US-based private equity firm Carlyle Group and Chinese conglomerate Fosun International. Delhivery also has Tiger Global, Nexus Venture Partners and and Times Internet as its investors. SoftBank-Delhivery talks had been going on since <a href="https://inc42.com/buzz/softbank-may-invest-245-mn-to-lead-delhivery-to-unicorn-club/">last year</a>, with a lot of back-and-forth between the duo regarding the stakes in the company. Delhivery had also been contemplating an Initial Public Offering, which will now be put on hold with the new investment. The logistics solutions company founded by Sahil Barua, Mohit Tandon, Suraj Saharan, Kapil Bharti and Bhavesh Manglani, had managed to create a stronghold in India with its partnership with e-commerce unicorns like Flipkart and Paytm among others. Japan-based SoftBank has a strong presence in India with investments in multiple unicorns and startups in the country. The SoftBank Vision Fund concentrates on Indian startups, with the firm having earlier said they had missed the bus on many Indian startups because of not having an India office. “Investors like Tiger Global, Sequoia Capital and DST Global spotted these companies at the right time. We were a tourist investor. So opening an office lets us handhold our companies closely. We missed them before they became unicorns, which we did not with Oyo and Policybazaar. Delhivery becomes India’s first unicorn in 2019, thanks to SoftBank

<keyword id="4331977" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Logistics-startup">Logistics startup</keyword> <keyword id="1560090" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhivery">Delhivery</keyword> has managed a $100 million (Rs 655 crore approx) <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/logistics-company-delhivery-in-talks-to-raise-100-million-valuation-may-touch-700-million/articleshow/57388020.cms">funding round</a>, which was led by Carlyle Asia Partners IV (CAP IV). The deal also involves CAP IV holding a minority yet significant stake in the company. 
 The <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Funding">funding</keyword> round also saw participation from existing investor <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/a-partner-at-20-billion-investment-firm-tiger-global-is-leaving/articleshow/56964087.cms">Tiger Global</a>, after which Delhivery’s valuation now stands close to $700 million (Rs 4700 crore). 
 
For CAP IV, an investor in ANE Technologies in China, this is its first big logistics bet in the Indian e-commerce, one of the largest PE investments in the space.

 "In India, 70% of the e-commerce market is mobile and electronics. If you look at markets worldwide, categories like apparel, home decor, grocery, furniture form a larger share in a mature market. We believe these categories will grow in India, accelerating the need for third-party logistics players. The horizontal players will continue to be the largest players while categories like grocery and furniture will see the emergence of vertical players," said Neeraj Bharadwaj, India MD of <keyword id="44803" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Carlyle-group">Carlyle Group</keyword>.

Delhivery gets $100 million funding from Carlyle

In a bid to increase its presence in India, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=alibaba&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Chinese giant Alibaba</a> is looking to invest in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=delhivery&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Delhivery</a> and <keyword id="2841678" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="XpressBees">Xpressbees</keyword> Logistics. 
 <keyword id="302749" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Alibaba">Alibaba</keyword>’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=jack+ma&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Jack Ma</a> wants to cement its position in payments and logistics and outpace its rivals in India such as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=flipkart&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Flipkart</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=snapdeal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Snapdeal</a>. 
 
“The Chinese company is also chalking out a plan to get Paytm to spin off its marketplace business and plans to top it up with more capital,” ET quoted a source as saying. 
 
Meanwhile, Alibaba told ET that it sees tremendous opportunities in India and are absolutely committed to developing in this market for the long term. 
 Meanwhile, Alibaba’s investment plans will be decided within six months. It is worth mentioning that <keyword id="1560090" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhivery">Delhivery</keyword> and XpressBees are already on Paytm's marketplace as a third-party logistics and eKYC partner. 
 
Devangshu Dutta, CEO of retail consultancy Third Eyesight, told ET, “Major players such as Amazon, Alibaba, Flipkart have to take direct or indirect control to ensure that their logistics capabilities evolve ahead of their own business growth curve.” 
 
Reportedly, Delhivery is estimated to be valued at Rs 2,000 crore since its last funding round and Xpressbees’ valuation is not known. 
 
"They are putting their strategy in place. Fundamentally, they will buy and start with Paytm's online retail business, because a deal with Flipkart is not happening right now as they feel it is very expensive. They will get a logistics partner to build a network like Amazon, which is very critical," a source told ET about Alibaba's plan.

According to Kotak Institutional Equities, the market is likely to trade at rich valuations in the near term. The domestic research house says that mega-caps have underperformed other large-caps, mid-caps and small-caps but this may change now. Strategists at IIFL say that the outcome of Assembly elections will be a positive surprise for the markets, with most surveys earlier predicting a tougher battle between the BJP and the Congress. “We consider these results positive for GDP growth too. Our Nifty EPS CAGR for FY24-26 is 12%. We expect Nifty to outperform other major indices over the next year. Our top large-cap picks include IndusInd Bank, SBI Life, Sun Pharma, Info Edge and BEL. Our top mid-cap and small-cap picks include Cummins, JB Chemicals, CMS Info and Ashoka Buildcon. Our top sells include Kotak Bank, TechM, Divis, Delhivery, Page and Dr Reddy’s.” The exuberant mood might stay on, expect analysts, who foresee an across-the-board rally. However, a few believe that the market has already partly discounted a BJP victory with a 500-point rally during the last four sessions. “But the mood is so exuberant that the rally will continue. A restraining factor will be the valuations which are high and will get stretched further with the rally gaining momentum. In the near-term the market will ignore fundamentals and move up but soon high valuations will trigger some selling," said Dr V K Vijayakumar, chief investment strategist at Geojit Financial Services. A few analysts also believe that the mood might stay on until the run-up to the general elections of 2024. “Nifty can see the level of 22,000 in the next four to five months. However, since Nifty has already rallied about 1,700 in the past one-and-a-half months, occasional <keyword id="47904" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="profit-booking" source="Orion">profit booking</keyword> cannot be ruled out,” said Sheersham Gupta, director and senior technical analyst at Rupeezy. ‘Calmed the fears of fiscal populism’ Japanese investment bank Nomura said that the results of the state elections in India have calmed fears of fiscal populism, but competitive populism is expected to remain a dominant theme for the 2024 general elections. The report states that while state election results are not always indicative of general election outcomes, investors are likely to view these developments positively, anticipating reduced policy and political risks leading up to 2024. The report also highlights the BJP's strategy of campaigning under the brand of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, without naming any Chief Ministerial candidate. This approach, which did not yield results in the Karnataka elections, proved successful in the Hindi heartland states. The popularity of state-level leaders, particularly Madhya Pradesh's incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, also played a significant role in the BJP's wins. Competitive populism has been a dominant theme in state elections, not only for the INC but also for the BJP. Both parties have made populist promises, particularly focusing on schemes supporting women and girls. While investors were initially concerned that a poor showing by the BJP in state elections would increase the risk of more fiscal populism, the actual results have alleviated such fears. However, Nomura suggests that a BJP victory across most states does not necessarily reduce the likelihood of competitive populism recurring as a dominant theme in the 2024 general elections.

No stopping the election party with occasional profit-booking say analysts

<ul><li>RIL, TCS, HDFC Bank retain top spots as <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword>’s most valuable companies.</li><li>India’s 500 most valuable companies have a cumulative value of ₹231 lakh crore, as per a Burgundy <keyword id="20553117" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hurun" source="keywords">Hurun</keyword> report.</li><li>Suzlon Energy, Jindal Stainless and JSW Infrastructure saw triple digit growth in value in the last one year. </li></ul>Reliance Industries, TCS and HDFC Bank retained their ranks as India’s most valuable companies respectively in the 2023 <keyword id="20554332" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="burgundy-private-hurun" source="keywords">Burgundy Private Hurun</keyword> India 500, released on Monday. The combined value of the top 10 companies remained unchanged in the last one year, at ₹73.3 lakh crore. However, the picture wasn't as rosy for the startup ecosystem. The top 10 had a mixed year, five of them seeing a robust double double digit growth in value, two of them saw single-digit growth, and three of them shed around 10% of their value. L&amp;T’s value went up by 41%, HDFC Bank’s value swelled by 35% due the merger with its parent, and ITC too saw its value swell by 24%. Notable exits &amp; big comebacks Startups, however, had a bad year with Swiggy shedding 26% of its value, Dream11’s value went down by 9.8%, and Razorpay by 8.5%. Meanwhile, in the listed space, while most new-age companies like Policybazaar, Delhivery, Zomato Paytm, saw their valuations go up, Nykaa remained an outlier as it shed 26.8% of its value. Byju’s and Pharmeasy exited the list which has a new cut off rate of ₹6,700 crore. “Startup funding and valuation continued their downward trajectory. Startups in the list cumulatively lost ₹4 lakh crore led by <keyword id="19914048" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="byjus" source="keywords">Byjus</keyword>, Dealshare, and Pharmeasy; which failed to make it to the list this year,” Hurun said. The unlisted universe had yet another disappointment. India’s most valuable unlisted company and Covid-19 vaccine maker Serum Institute of India saw its value decrease by 13% to ₹1.9 lakh crore. There have been many comeback stories as well amongst the top 500 companies. Suzlon Energy registered one of the highest value growth this year, as its value swelled by a remarkable 436%. Jindal Stainless’ value went up by 395% and JSW Infrastructure by 310%. “It indicates a rise in renewable energy and infrastructure development. For instance, INOX Wind, which was on the path to insolvency in 2017, registered a 450% growth in value and stormed into 2023 Burgundy Private <keyword id="20554331" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hurun-india" source="keywords">Hurun India</keyword> 500,” said Anas Rahman Junaid, MD and chief researcher, of Hurun India. But, 61 new companies made their debut to the list, led by industrial products with 16 new entrants, followed by financial services with 10 new entrants. Apart from Inox Wind, freshly listed R R Kabel and Welspun Corp were the notable unlisted entrants including unicorn Incred Finance, and Bengaluru-based gaming startup Gameskraft. cumulative value of ₹231 lakh crore ($2.8 trillion). They went up from ₹212 lakh crore from June last year, but remained flat since 2021, the report says. “The 2023 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500 list is a strong confirmation of the Indian economy's solid performance in all sectors. The increase in new entrants from industrial goods shows India's rising manufacturing growth,” said Junaid. The combined value of the listed and unlisted companies which made it to the 2023 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500, is more than the combined GDP of Saudi Arabia, Switzerland and Singapore, the report said. “The 2023 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500 companies represent India’s economically strongest businesses. The reason is self-explanatory as these companies have a total value of $2.8 trillion, which is almost 90% of India’s current GDP, i.e. they are the backbone of India’s economy. Together, these 500 companies had combined sales of ₹79 lakh crore and employed 7 million staff, which is more than the working population of Switzerland,” Junaid said. The cut off for companies to enter the list went up by 13% to ₹6,700 crore.

The quick commerce player, started by two teenagers two years ago, has raised $200 million through a Series E round at a valuation of $1.4 billion. The latest round is entirely primary. The agenda is to build a good capital base ahead of a potential listing in 2025. With this round, the startup has brought on board a bunch of new investors. This round was led by StepStone Group and this investment into Zepto is their first direct investment in an Indian company). Additionally, Goodwater Capital, a consumer-focused venture capital firm based in California, joined the round as a new investor. Notably, existing investors, like Nexus Venture Partners, Glade Brook Capital, Lachy Groom and more, doubled down on their investments in Zepto with meaningful follow-on investments.
