The Technology Development Fund (TDF) scheme is a flagship programme of the Ministry of Defence, executed by <keyword id="19948662" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="drdo" source="keywords">DRDO</keyword> under the '<keyword id="20018809" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="make-in-india" source="keywords">Make in India</keyword>' initiative. Under this initiative, the government provides grants-in-aid to Indian industries, including <keyword id="19910977" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="msmes" source="keywords">MSMEs</keyword> and <keyword id="19945815" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="startups" source="keywords">startups</keyword>, as well as academic and scientific institutions, for the development of defence and dual-use technologies that are currently not available in the Indian defence industry. With these initiatives, the Ministry aims to engage private industries, especially MSMEs and startups, to foster a culture of design and development in military technology and support them with grants-in-aid. The TDF seeks to enhance the capacity and capability of Indian industries for the design and development of defence technologies in the country. It aims to create an R&amp;D ecosystem where industry and academia work together to meet the current and future requirements of the Armed Forces and the defence sector. The government aims to achieve 'Aatmanirbharta' in defence technology by building a robust defence manufacturing ecosystem in the country. The <keyword id="19910956" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="defence-ministry" source="keywords">Defence Ministry</keyword> on Wednesday highlighted several successful startups benefiting from the scheme. Pune-based startup <keyword id="22281521" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Combat-Robotics" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Combat Robotics" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="Combat Robotics">Combat Robotics</keyword>, with the help of the scheme, has successfully developed an innovative simulator for <keyword id="20146841" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="unmanned-vehicles" source="keywords">unmanned vehicles</keyword>. This multi-domain simulator supports unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), serving as an excellent development tool for agencies working on autonomous systems. Another Pune-based defence equipment startup, ChiStats Labs Private Limited, is developing virtual sensors for aero gas turbine engine health monitoring, which helps to increase the operational reliability and longevity of the engines. The system is built on modern artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) technologies. Bengaluru-based NewSpace Research and Technologies Pvt. Ltd., under the project titled 'Autonomous Drone as First Responder for Search and Report Operations in Enclosed/Indoor Environments', has created a cutting-edge UAV capable of exploring indoor environments under various conditions, including zero light. The success of this project will open up various applications, including search and rescue operations, surveillance, industrial inspections, environmental monitoring, and hazardous environment exploration, contributing significantly to technological advancements in unmanned aerial systems, the Ministry added. The technology has been developed under the technical guidance and mentorship of CAIR, Bengaluru.

Defence ministry allocates Rs 300 cr for technology development fund to promote Make in India products

The report stated that the <keyword id="20861069" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-shift" source="keywords">global shift</keyword> towards a China+1 strategy and the impact of the <keyword id="20016971" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Russia-Ukraine-war" source="keywords">Russia-Ukraine war</keyword> offer India additional opportunities to fill supply chain gaps, potentially boosting its share in the <keyword id="23046732" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-defence-industry" source="keywords">global defence industry</keyword>. The report noted that the country's long-term goal is to become a global defence manufacturing hub is driven by Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), private enterprises, start-ups, and MSMEs. "Indian defence exports have grown multi-fold from INR 15 bn in 2017 to INR 210 bn in 2024 at a CAGR of 46%. The China + 1 strategy and the Russia-Ukraine war provides an additional opportunity for India to fill the gap created in the supply chain and hence increase its contribution to the global defence industry," the report read. The report added that to achieve this target a well-developed domestic ecosystem is crucial as lower import content in products accelerates approvals by reducing international conflicts. The report added that the Ministry of Defence has taken key initiatives to attract Indian private players and global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) include establishing aerospace parks and defence corridors, fast-tracking project approvals, and enhancing development and testing facilities. Highlighting the potential in India's Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) segment the report explained that it holds a significant potential for global aerospace companies due to its technical expertise and cost-competitive solutions. "India provides a huge opportunity in the <keyword id="23046733" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MRO-segment" source="keywords">MRO segment</keyword> for global aerospace leaders given the expertise the country provides as well as the cost efficiency solutions compared to its global competitors" the report added. India aims to increase domestic defence turnover to Rs 3 lac crore by 2029, Rs 500 billion targeted for exports. This growth will help reduce the Government of India's import bill as India remains the world's largest importer of defence equipment. Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative of the government, 75 per cent of the defence capital outlay is now reserved for domestic players, up from 49 per cent in FY21. Given the geopolitical challenges and modernisation needs of its Armed Forces, the report added that India plans to invest Rs 8.3 lac crore in domestic procurement, offering substantial business opportunities for local companies. "India intends to place orders worth INR 8.3 trn through domestic procurement and thus it presents a massive business opportunity for local players" it added. As per the Ministry of Defence, India's defence manufacturing sector has witnessed an increase of 16.8 per cent in the fiscal year 2023-24. This significant increase marks the highest-ever growth in the country's defence production value. The total value of defence production reached Rs 1,26,887 crore this year, up from the previous year's figures.

The <keyword id="32723" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="defence" source="Orion">defence</keyword> ministry has approved a fresh list of 928 components and subsystems which will only be procured from the domestic industry after a ban on their import kicks in under a staggered time-line of around five-and-half years. The ministry on Sunday said the aim of the move is in sync with the government's overall aim to promote 'Atmanirbharta' (self-reliance) in defence production. It is the fourth such "positive indigenisation list (PIL)" comprising line replacement units, sub-systems and components used for various military platforms, equipment and weapons. "To promote 'Aatmanirbharta' in defence and minimise imports by defence public sector undertakings, the <keyword id="6369097" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ministry-of-defence" source="Orion">Ministry of Defence</keyword> has approved fourth Positive Indigenisation List (PIL) of 928 strategically-important line replacement units/sub-systems/spares and components, including high-end materials and spares, with import substitution value worth Rs 715 crore," the ministry said in a statement. The aim of the indigenisation list is also to minimise imports by the defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs). The defence ministry has set specific timelines for import ban of the items, spanning the period from December 2023 to December 2028. This list is in continuation to the three similar PILs that were brought out in December 2021, March 2022 and August 2022 "These lists contain 2,500 items which are already indigenised and 1,238 (351+107+780) items which will be indigenised within the given timelines," the ministry said. Of the 1,238, 310 items have been indigenised so far, it said. The items which were already indigenised comprised 262 from the first PIL, 11 from the second list and 37 from the third PIL, according to the ministry. "The DPSUs will undertake indigenisation of these items through different routes under 'Make' category and in-house development through the capabilities of MSMEs and private Indian industry, thereby providing impetus to the growth in economy, enhanced investment in defence and reduction in import dependence of DPSUs," the ministry said. "In addition, this will augment the design capabilities of the domestic defence industry by involving academia and research institutions," it said. In a tweet, Defence Minister <keyword id="6355121" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rajnath-singh" source="Orion">Rajnath Singh</keyword> said the Narendra Modi government is committed towards indigenisation and ensuring self reliance in the defence sector. "Keeping this in mind, the 4th Positive Indigenisation List (PIL) of 928 strategically-important Line Replacement Units (LRUs)/Sub-systems/Spares and Components has been approved," he said. "The list includes high-end materials and spares, with import substitution value worth Rs 715 crore," Singh added. The ministry said DPSUs will soon initiate procurement action for these notified items. There are some governments that have shown interest.” The French IT software services company already has a similar set up in the US state of Wichita in collaboration with the Wichita State University. The state of Wichita is the aerospace hub of the US, like Bengaluru. “Initially, governments are helping them to adapt to these technologies and we’ll become relevant to them at a later date. That is an investment we’re making along with the government,” the IIM-Bengaluru graduate told Business Insider. He hopes that the project to roll out the model will take shape within the next few months. The DPEPP 2020 is envisaged as overarching guiding document of MoD to provide a focused, structured and significant thrust to defence production capabilities of the country for self-reliance and exports.  The 23 projects that the <keyword id="43909" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Defence-ministry">defence ministry</keyword> is taking up under the ‘<keyword id="6354869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="make-in-India">Make in India</keyword>’ initiative has 13 for Army, six for Navy and four in <keyword id="15141" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Air-Force">Indian Air Force</keyword>’s fold.<o:p></o:p>

	This is for the first time such a transparent modus operandi has been followed by the ministry of defence.<o:p></o:p>

	The 23 projects will allow participation of all categories of companies including MSMEs – participation of a sector that the government wants to encourage under Make in India. A host of projects, however, are for the big and medium players, sources in the ministry said.<o:p></o:p>

	While the order for these 23 projects may not be very big and is estimated to be in the range of around Rs 2500-3000 crore in totality, the same is being viewed as an important step by the Indian government and is also the first of the lot after the announcement of the new Defence Procurement Policy (DPP) 2016.<o:p></o:p>

	Moreover, some of these projects were earlier not open for private participation and were either manufactured by defence PSUs, ordinance factories or the demand was alternatively being met from imports.<o:p></o:p>

	“Under the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the government, a list of potential ‘Make’ projects has been identified by the Service Head Quarters (SHQs) in consultation with the other stakeholders in the ministry. These projects are being contemplated to be undertaken as per category Make-I or Make-II of new revised Chapter-III on Make Procedure of Defence Procurement Procedure-2016,” a brief from the defence ministry stated.<o:p></o:p>

Facebook-owned photo-sharing platform <keyword id="819905" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Instagram">Instagram</keyword> on Wednesday announced that its users in <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> will now be able to view the <keyword id="4114693" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="reels">Reels</keyword> within the <keyword id="6662415" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="instagram-lite">Instagram Lite</keyword> app. "Now with this update, everyone using the Instagram Lite app in India will be able to view Reels with the Reels tab. This <keyword id="6399502" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="feature">feature</keyword> was expedited for India because of the traction Reels is seeing in India, and the early adoption of the new Instagram Lite app," the company said in a statement. The Instagram Lite app began testing in India in December 2020, with the aim of providing an app that's less than 2MB in size and is built to deliver an Instagram experience that remains fast and reliable for more people. The app experience is similar to the core Instagram app experience, though at launch some features were not supported such as Reels and IGTV creation. In addition, Instagram is making changes to its algorithm to get more original posts on its platform. With the help of algorithm, Reels that are mostly covered by text, are blurry, have a watermark or logo, or have a border around it won't be recommended as frequently. The company is also issuing new best practices on its @creators account to give Instagram users tips on how to make content that's likely to be seen and promoted. 3rd Test: Axar Patel takes six wickets as India bowl out England for 112

However, while the Narendra Modi government promised to allocate 10% of the GDP, nearly half of the stimulus package is spent by the Reserve Bank of India. The Central Drug Standard Control Organisation's (CDSCO)Subject Expert Committee has asked Dr Reddy's Laboratories to present additional data of immunogenicity while reviewing its <keyword id="6355821" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="application">application</keyword> for Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) of Russian Covid vaccine <keyword id="9739267" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sputnik-V">Sputnik V</keyword> in India, sources said. Dr Reddy's had applied for EUA before the CDSCO, and its application was reviewed by the SEC on Wednesday, a source told. India's drug regulator asks Dr Reddy's for more data, as it reviews emergency use of Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V

She mentioned that the additional loans will go to the sector. “Considering these aspects, the ECLGS [Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme] will be extended up to March 2023 and its guarantee cover will be expanded by ₹50,000 crore to total cover of ₹5 lakh crore, with the additional amount being earmarked exclusively for the hospitality and related enterprises,” Sitharaman said. ECLGS was a part of ₹20 lakh crore comprehensive package announced by the finance minister on May 13, 2020. The aim of this package is to aid micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to overcome the distress of the pandemic. The <keyword id="6355512" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="union-cabinet">Union Cabinet</keyword> on Wednesday approved a proposal to impose President's <keyword id="23207" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="rule">Rule</keyword> in <keyword id="6354306" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Puducherry">Puducherry</keyword>, days after a Congress-led government in the union territory lost power during a vote of confidence. Announcing the Cabinet decision, Union Minister <keyword id="119642" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prakash-Javadekar">Prakash Javadekar</keyword> told reporters that the decision was taken as no party claimed to form a government in Puducherry following the resignation of the chief minister there. Subsequently, the Lieutenant General had recommended President's Rule in Puducherry and the Union Cabinet has approved the same, the minister said. After the President's assent, the assembly will get resolved, Javadekar said, while adding that further necessary steps for administrative work in Puducherry would be taken soon. He also noted that the model code of conduct was expected to come into effect soon after the Election Commission announces the dates for elections there, along with four states.
