The committee will comprise of former presidents and educationists. This move came after over 1.2 million aspiring chartered accountants protested errors in evaluation of CA qualifying exam held in May. They are seeking a re-valuation of their papers and these protests have gathered steam in the social media as well. It decided to constitute a high-level independent committee to look into the regulations governing CA examinations including Regulation 39(4) of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988 and suggest changes wherever required in the ICAI examination system,” <a href="https://www.financialexpress.com/education-2/icai-forms-committee-to-look-into-exam-process-after-student-protest/1718689/">said</a> ICAI president Prafulla Chhajed. The students have been protesting against wrong evaluation system of the institute, alleging that their answers were evaluated wrongly and marks were deducted from correct answers as well. The institute tried to assure the students saying that the examination process of ICAI has multiple layers for quality evaluation. “Even people who check the papers undergo tests. This is a temporary post, and what benefit am I to get by indulging in any of what the students are claiming,” Chhajed argued. According to the Regulation 39(4) of the <keyword id="6816621" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chartered-Accountants-Act-1949">Chartered Accountants Act, 1949</keyword>, students cannot seek re-valuation. They can only appeal for re-totalling of marks. The institute introduced changes in the evaluation process for the examinations scheduled for November 2019 and May 2020. The examination papers will now undergo digital evaluation for transparency. ICAI bows down to student protests and forms a high-level committee

<ul><li>The massive protest by the aspiring chartered accountants against the <keyword id="22866" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Institute-of-Chartered-Accountants-of-India">Institute of Chartered Accountants of India</keyword> (ICAI) has sparked outrage across social media. </li><li>The hashtags <keyword id="8150125" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="icaipresidentmissing">icaipresidentmissing</keyword> and <keyword id="8143492" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="dearICAIpleasechange">dearICAIpleasechange</keyword> have been trending on Twitter, given the nationwide protest. </li><li>And, political leaders like Rahul Gandhi backing up student protest has mounted pressure on the ICAI to address student concerns. </li><li>In response to the student outrage, ICAI tweeted out a revaluation of a student copy saying that the ICAI Examination Department has verified that correct marks.</li></ul>Thousands of chartered accountancy aspirants are protesting against the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) alleging wrong evaluation of CA examination held in May. Apart from thronging offices of ICAI in Delhi, Durgapur, Siliguri, Bhilwara, Hyderabad and Jaipur, the students along with others are calling for action on social media as well. Hashtags #icaipresidentmissing and #dearICAIpleasechange has been trending on Twitter. The students demanded a response from the ICAI president Prafulla Chhajed. The students allege that their answers were evaluated wrongly and marks were deducted from correct answers as well. While this error has occurred, fixing it is next to impossible. As per Regulation 39(4) of the <keyword id="6816621" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chartered-Accountants-Act-1949">Chartered Accountants Act, 1949</keyword>, students cannot seek re-valuation. They can only appeal for re-totalling of marks. The students are now asking for a change in the amendment as well.  “A section of the students led by agencies external to the Institute have been demonstrating outside the ICAI premises from 23rd September, 2019. In order to empathize the genuine concern, if any, of the students, they were given an opportunity to meet the officers and council members on 24th September, 2019 wherein more than ten representatives including ICAI members, non-members and students participated in the discussions,” the institute published on the website. “The representatives of agitators submitted that their only demand is to allow for provision of re-checking of answer books in the Chartered Accountancy examinations,” the institute <a href="https://www.icai.org/new_post.html?post_id=15994&amp;c_id=240">announce</a>d on its website, saying nothing of the regulation or re-valuation. CA aspirants want ICAI to amend regulation that allows re-valuation

<ul><li>Students of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) aspiring to qualify for CA examination are protesting against May exam results. </li><li>The students took to Twitter to reveal the errors in the evaluation of examination papers, along with the hashtag #dearICAIpleasechange. </li><li>The students alleged that answer sheets have been evaluated incorrectly, deducting marks for correct answers. </li><li>Given that, the institute said that the November 2019 and May 2020 exam papers will undergo digital evaluation.</li></ul>Students of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) aspiring to qualify CA examination have been<a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/education/icai-protest-day-2-ca-aspirants-protest-at-200-branches-demand-right-to-revaluation-of-papers-watch/story-NqN3k42b8Nxerke6NHBygM.html"> protesting against the results</a>. The aspirants staged massive protest across 200 branches of the ICAI, demanding revaluation of the examination papers. They are protesting both online and offline. The students took to Twitter to reveal errors in the evaluation under the hashtag #dearICAIpleasechange. According to PTI, students alleged that answer sheets have been evaluated incorrectly, deducting marks for the correct answers as well. The students evaluated their own answers, based on the answer key released released by the institute. "They found that many of their correct answers had been marked as wrong and this way, many students flunked the papers. In some cases, even 12 marks have been deducted," CA Neeraj Arora, ICAI member <a href="https://www.news18.com/news/india/over-200-students-stage-protest-at-icai-claim-papers-not-evaluated-properly-2320029.html">told </a>PTI. The exam was conducted in May. Students accessed their answer copies via RTI (Right To Information) enquiries. Until 2018, the CA Act did not allow students to show the answer copies to any other person, which was scrapped after massive protests during that year. The students even want the institute to penalise examiners for the errors. In response to the student outrage, the institute had put out a notification clarifying that "It has been brought to our notice that certain adverse reports relating to the system of evaluation of answer books of CA exams are doing the rounds on social media." Given that, the institute has introduced changes in the evaluation process for the examinations scheduled for November 2019 and May 2020. The examination papers will now undergo digital evaluation to maintain transparency. It will also eliminate manual errors like totalling, variation in marks according to the examiner. In fact, the institute will also roll out OMR-based evaluation for MCQs of Elective Papers. This will keep the examination objective type, eliminating variations in the subjective answers.
