A reasonable estimate would be around 300,000+," Kersey added.</p><p>Daytona Beach is hosting <a href="https://www.officialbikeweek.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bike Week</a>, a multi-day annual event typically known for bike shows, concerts, and races that began last Friday and will continue through this weekend - despite the pandemic. CNN first reported the <keyword id="6355005" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="news">news</keyword> of the event's expected attendance.</p><p>The City Commission of Daytona Beach weighed canceling Bike Week due to concerns about the virus, but ultimately, city commissioners chose to move forward, Kersey told Insider. Kersey said the commission was "very meticulous" with its decision. </p><p>"With the benefits of the vaccine distribution ramping up, a reduction in numbers and the real need for people to work to pay their bills, keep their homes, feed their families, and keep the economy from completely crashing from major losses in tourism, it was a highly engaged conversation with many considerations to move forward," Kersey said in her statement to Insider.<u></u></p><p>The city commission did not immediately respond to a request for comment.</p><p>There will be certain precautions in place to limit the spread of the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword>. Businesses, for example, "voluntarily agreed" to operate at reduced capacity, Kersey said. Visitors and resident are also encouraged to wear masks. Florida is one of 16 states <a href="https://www.aarp.org/health/healthy-living/info-2020/states-mask-mandates-coronavirus.html#Florida">without a government-issued mask mandate</a>.  </p><p>"While our community is working hard to follow CDC safety guidelines the support of the visitors and participants is important in these efforts as well for everyone's safety," Kersey said. <u></u></p><p>Despite the request that visitors and residents wear masks while participating in the event, police told CNN that officers spotted crowds of mask-less attendees.</p><p>"The vast majority of the crowd" was unmasked, a Daytona Police Department spokesperson said.</p><h2>Another motorcycle rally led to a spike in cases</h2><p>A motorcycle rally in South Dakota last year <a href="https://www.insider.com/sturgis-motorcycle-rally-covid-19-attendees-pack-bars-2020-8">drew similar crowds</a> - and caused a spike in new COVID-19 cases, experts said.</p><p>Health officials <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sturgis-motorcycle-rally-spreads-coronavirus-8-states-as-experts-warned-2020-8">traced several coronavirus cases in at least 8 states</a> to the annual 10-day Sturgis, South Dakota, motorcycle rally in August 2020, which hosted more than 400,000 people from across the country.</p><p>A Minnesota man <a href="https://www.insider.com/minnesota-man-died-of-covid-19-after-sturgis-motorcycle-rally-2020-9">died in September from COVID-19</a> after participating in the Sturgis rally.</p><p>The man was in his 60s and had underlying health conditions, the Minnesota Department of Public Health told Insider at the time. </p><p>Days before the event, residents in Sturgis and local officials pushed for its cancellation, knowing that the number of confirmed cases in South Dakota was rising at the time. More than 60% of residents said in a survey that they hoped the event would be postponed.</p><p>Officials did not at the time mandate that Sturgis attendees show up in face masks, and social distancing was not enforced.</p><p>Those who attended the event frequented packed bars and concerts<a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/weeks-after-sturgis-motorcycle-rally-first-covid-19-death-reported-n1239088"></a>. "We know this is disappointing to the many people who love the current experience - but reliability and safety come first."</span></p><p>Streetsblog New York <a href="https://www.capitalbikeshare.com/blog/service-update-putting-riders-safety-first">reported the pedal-assisted bikes</a>, which allow riders to reach speeds of 18 mph thanks to an electronic 'boost,' first began disappearing from the Citi Bike map over the weekend before an announcement was made at 5:00 am Sunday. </p><p>Citi Bike has plans to roll out 4,000 pedal-assisted bikes over the course of 2019, <a href="https://www.citibikenyc.com/how-it-works/electric-faqs">according to its website</a>. The bikes cost an additional $2 to use, an upcharge that is waived for Citi Bike members until April 27th. </p><p>Streetsblog New York reported DC's <a href="https://www.capitalbikeshare.com/blog/service-update-putting-riders-safety-first">Capital Bikeshare</a> and San Francisco's <a href="https://www.fordgobike.com/blog/service-update-electric-bikes">Ford GoBike</a>, both of which are also owned by Lyft, pulled their pedal-assisted bikes on Sunday as well, citing similar reasons as Citi Bike.  </p><p>Lyft has had a hectic few weeks. Lyft-owned Citi Bike is pulling its electric bikes off the streets after brake complaints, continuing a tough week for the company

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="9226953" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="gabi-butler">Gabi Butler</keyword> is one of the breakout stars of <keyword id="128682" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Netflix">Netflix</keyword>'s popular docuseries "<keyword id="6651114" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="cheer">Cheer</keyword>," which focused on the prestigious cheerleading squad at Navarro College in Texas. </li><li>Speaking to Insider, Butler opened up about the "devastating" cancellation of the National Cheer Association (NCA) and National Dance Alliance's (NDA) 2020 College Nationals, held in Daytona each year. </li><li>"It was heartbreaking and devastating when we all found out that Daytona was canceled," Butler said, adding that she understood the importance of canceling the competition amid the pandemic.</li><li>Butler also spoke about how she has video calls with members of the Navarro squad regularly, and about how she's excited to partner with Playtex Sport to support female athletes. </li></ul><p>"Cheer" star Gabi Butler opened up to Insider about the "heartbreaking" cancellation of the NCA and NDA's 2020 college nationals, and how she's staying in touch with her Navarro College teammates during quarantine. </p><p>Like other college cheerleading teams, the Navarro squad was looking forward to competing in the cheerleading championship in Daytona this April. It was ultimately canceled to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. </p><p>"It was heartbreaking and devastating when we all found out that Daytona was canceled, just because it's something that happens once a year, and it's like one of the most amazing times in the cheer season," Butler told Insider.</p><p>"It obviously pulled my heartstrings into a bunch of pieces. But I think it had to be done because they're trying to reduce the risk of getting the virus." </p><p>Butler rose to fame as a breakout star of Netflix's popular docuseries "Cheer," which focused on the elite and ultra-competitive cheerleading squad at Navarro College in Texas. Butler, along with her teammates, quickly became pop-culture sensations after the show premiered earlier this year. </p><p><div type="image" title="gabi butler cheer" height="1911" width="2549" msid="75907074" hostid="261"></div></p><p>And with little to no options available professionally to competitive cheerleaders of Navarro's caliber after college, this year's championship would have been a bittersweet sendoff for senior cheerleaders in their final season of the sport. </p><p>But Butler told Insider she's taking the whole thing in stride, and is still focusing on bolstering her career despite Daytona's cancellation. </p><p>"I've definitely been dealing with it in the best way I possibly can," she said. "It is a little unfortunate, but I think that in life we do get challenges thrown at us. It really just depends on how bad you want it and how bad you will work for it." </p><p>According to the cheerleader, her disappointment at the cancellation of Daytona  (and its implications for senior athletes who won't get the chance to compete in another season after they graduate this year) was one of the reasons she decided to partner with Playtex Sport.</p><p>Butler <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tv/CAeAFYmFhwz/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link">hosted the brand's virtual "Senior Night" on Thursday</a> — an Instagram live celebration of female athletes who didn't get to finish their final season the way they envisioned due to the pandemic. </p><p>"I'm an athlete myself, and I know how badly that sucks. 'Cheer' star Gabi Butler opens up about the 'devastating' cancellation of Daytona and how she's staying in touch with her Navarro squad in quarantine

<ul class="summary-list"><li>DeSantis just signed <a href="https://www.flgov.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/5.6-Sales-Tax-List.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">several tax breaks</a> into law in Florida, billing it as a way to fight <keyword id="11894140" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="inflation" source="Orion">inflation</keyword>.</li><li>It'll lower the cost of diapers, school supplies, gas, and more. </li></ul><p>Floridians will get more than <a href="https://floridarevenue.com/pages/salestaxholidays.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$1.2 billion in tax breaks</a> on a slew of items from <a href="https://www.flgov.com/2022/05/06/governor-ron-desantis-signs-largest-tax-relief-package-in-floridas-history/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">diapers to mobile homes</a> thanks to a bill Republican Gov. <keyword id="11913103" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ron-desantis" source="Orion">Ron DeSantis</keyword> signed into law on Friday. </p><p>As he prepared to sign the bill at a Sam's Club in Ocala, Florida, DeSantis blamed President <keyword id="99719" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="joe-biden" source="Orion">Joe Biden</keyword> for the state's need to provide financial relief amid <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inflation-cpi-march-price-growth-report-gas-food-costs-climbing-2022-4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">record-high inflation</a>. He has also warned in recent weeks that the country may be heading into a recession. </p><p>"We have done more than any other state to step up against Bidenflation headwinds, to give relief to our citizens, and we are going to keep on doing that," DeSantis said at a bill signing event at Sam's Club in Ocala, Florida. </p><p>But at least one portion of the tax relief package is <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-04-06/biden-s-arp-funds-may-give-republicans-an-election-boost" target="_blank" rel="noopener">being paid</a> for by congressional Democrats' $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief measure, called the <keyword id="11930911" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="american-rescue-plan" source="Orion">American Rescue Plan</keyword>, that Biden signed into law last year. Republicans and even <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/18/business/economy/fed-inflation-stimulus-biden.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">some outside analysts</a> frequently blame the spending package for contributing to inflation.</p><p>A total of $200 billion in COVID rescue dollars is going toward Florida's one-month gas holiday that starts in October. Through the measure, drivers and motorcyclists will save 25 cents per gallon.  </p><p>Florida's relief at the gas pump will come ahead of the gubernatorial election, set for November 8. DeSantis is expected to easily win re-election and is also considered to be a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-ron-desantis-president-election-campaign-2024-florida-2022-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">top contender</a> for the White House in 2024, particularly if former <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-trump-becomes-president-again-in-2024-2022-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">President Donald Trump</a> doesn't run. </p><p>The <keyword id="13139398" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="gas-tax" source="Orion">gas tax</keyword> holiday in Florida is less than the five-month, $1 billion in savings DeSantis <a href="https://www.flgov.com/2021/11/22/governor-ron-desantis-proposes-gas-tax-relief-to-save-floridians-more-than-1-billion/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">had recommended.</a> State legislative leaders limited the relief because they said they were concerned it would otherwise go to people traveling to Florida from out of state.</p><p>The idea of state gas <keyword id="11898253" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="taxes" source="Orion">taxes</keyword> are popular, particularly as prices hit <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/24/gasoline-prices-hit-6-in-parts-of-the-us-and-summer-driving-isnt-here-yet.html#:~:text=Gas%20prices%20hit%20over%20%246,California%20on%20February%2023%2C%202022.&amp;text=Gasoline%20prices%20have%20been%20fluctuating%20but%20are%20likely%20to%20keep,the%20peak%20summer%20driving%20season." target="_blank" rel="noopener">$6 a gallon in some places</a>. Some members of Congress <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/democrats-gas-tax-holiday-cut-prices-biden-agenda-stalled-2022-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">want to enact</a> a federal gas tax holiday, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi <a href="https://news.yahoo.com/pelosi-rejects-gas-tax-holiday-173753904.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rejected</a> the idea saying that oil companies aren't required to pass on the savings to consumers. </p><p>Tax breaks won't necessarily alleviate inflation. Some analysts, <a href="https://www.taxpolicycenter.org/taxvox/note-governors-cutting-taxes-will-make-inflation-worse-not-better#:~:text=Putting%20more%20money%20in%20people's,even%20more%20than%20it%20planned." target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">such as Howard Gleckman</a> at the Tax Policy Center, have warned that tax breaks could actually worsen inflation because people will spend and consume more at a time when supplies are limited. Some of the forthcoming tax breaks in Florida will go toward recreational gear for the summer, for instance. Other breaks will be on more essential supplies people would buy with or without a tax, such as diapers.  </p><h2>10 tax breaks on the horizon in Florida</h2><p>States all over the country have been unexpectedly <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2021/07/07/states-financial-status-pandemic-498403" target="_blank" rel="noopener">flooded with cash</a> not just from the COVID stimulus but also after they took in far more revenue than they expected during the COVID-19 pandemic.</p><p>DeSantis predicted Florida's budget would have a $20 billion surplus by the start of the next fiscal year. Such revenue gives the state plenty of room <a href="https://www.flgov.com/2022/05/06/governor-ron-desantis-signs-largest-tax-relief-package-in-floridas-history/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">to suspend or reduce its 6% sales tax</a>.</p><p>The earliest tax breaks are coming on <a href="https://floridarevenue.com/childrensbooks/Documents/2022/2022%20Children's%20Books%20Sales%20Tax%20Exemption%20Period%20-%20External%20FAQs%20-%20Consumers.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">children's books </a>in just over a week. Families will get tax breaks for buying Energy Star appliances and for back-to-school shopping. Taxes on mobile homes will fall to 3%. </p><p>One of the most popular provisions including among Democrats in the legislature is a yearlong tax break on diapers, as well as clothes and shoes for babies and toddlers, starting July 1. </p><p>Another tax break will run May 28 to June 10 on <a href="https://floridarevenue.com/disasterprep/Documents/2022DPposter11X17.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">disaster supplies</a> ahead of hurricane season. It'll include items such as generators, fuel tanks, and batteries. Around Labor Day, the state is enacting a "Tool Time" holiday to waive the sales tax on tools for workers in skilled trades such as carpentry and plumbing. </p><p>For the second year in a row Florida will have its "Freedom Week" tax holiday around the Fourth of July. The state will be suspending sales taxes on tickets for entertainment, as well as purchases for recreational activities, from bikes to boats. There will be no sales taxes on Tickets for the Daytona 500, Formula One races, and World Cup qualification matches. </p><p>The longest tax break is for people to purchase impact-resistant windows and doors to fortify their properties. </p>

They also reported, "It's not known yet whether some children may be at higher risk for severe illness, for example, children with underlying medical conditions and special healthcare needs." </p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ACs0vHpCg0I" frameborder="0"></iframe><p>Both Jameson and Pink's conditions worsened, according to Hart, who added that his wife has asthma, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-covid-19-affects-conditions-diabetes-asthma-cancer-underlying-copd-2020-3">a preexisting condition that makes her more vulnerable to COVID-19</a>, which he said "attacked her lungs and her chest." </p><p>Hart said his family returned to their residence in Los Angeles to be closer to Jameson's pediatrician and Pink's doctor, explaining that their symptoms eventually alleviated.
